Broooo!!! It only takes 1 amp to stop your heart or to cause it to miss beat, and 1 amp is basically the same as having static electricity in you and you go to touch something that is metal or touching someone else. Those little shocks are enough to put someone in cardiac arrest. I'm just saying that because you said it wouldn't stop your heart, but in actuality it could.
but.....No fish could stop my heart knowing it only pumps biologically cycled freshwater. No fish can hurt me knowing in a past life i was one of them. No fish can injure me knowing in my next life i will have gills. Did you think about any of that? SAY SORRY!!!
the electrical path has to be through your heart to stop it. so you can survive quite a large shock if you don't grab on with both hands and aren't grounded
You’d have to have a pretty serious preexisting heart condition for anything that Joey experienced to cause any problems, minor or major. Your average healthy person can handle very large amounts of electricity and be fine.
My electric fence around my horse paddocks is 8000 volts, yes 8000. I've touched it numerous times and I'm still here. As someone else said, it's the amps that matters. Go back to physics class.
I have never felt so nervous about what was going to happen even though you had said you had already experienced the shock. For what it's worth you don't need to put yourself in harm's way for me to continue to watch your content. Stay safe.
Joey, I would’ve thought that the eel would give off more power the more it felt threatened, you probably just got the tickle dose.😂 (He’ll probably get you properly next time)
I was just going to ask something similar like if each time depends on circumstances, will it be 5% this time or 50% or ist constantly the same each time. I guess it wouldn't like getting a static shock from rubbing feet on carpet.
I've watched a video where a six-and-a-half-foot crocodile clamped down on an electric eel about the same size (as yours) and the croc was dead almost instantly. So please be careful.
I’ve seen and been stung by anemones in petting tanks at big aquariums. It takes a few seconds of rubbing them to get it agitated enough to sting, and then it’s only a tiny zap like a hand buzzer. It’s enough to make pull away from it, but nothing to be scared of.
Two things, Joey. 1) without seeing the video, I'm going to say that I had an electric catfish years ago and that was bad enough when I got shocked by it. I couldn't even imagine an electric eel. 2) you should get like 600 eels and try and power the fish room off of them. Maybe not 600, but you know what I mean.
At first I thought you were making up some BS. I was all _"w.t.f"_ and all that. *NEVER HAVE I HEARD OF AN ELECTRIC CATFISH* but those things exist! I learnt something new today
They have a long row of cells that generate the electricity, and they're connected in series. The longer ones can produce the more powerful output. If you use a voltmeter, measuring the endpoints of the fish, you'll get the upper end of its potential output. Wear thick, insulating gloves or use special tools because if you use bare hands across the length of the fish, the shock may cross your heart and possibly kill you.
with anemones though, I've experienced that the more you expose yourself to the anemones, the more you become sensitive to it. i remember starting the hobby about 2 years ago, I used to handle my bubble tips and rockflowers by hand, now i have to wear protective gloves because my hand tingles almost tickles for a good while when I touch nems.
Injury depends on how much current travels through your body. You experienced a less powerful eddie current. A more serious injury would occur if you were barefoot on a ground to something the current can flow to. You are better off as a floating ground with dry shoes on. Don't be touching anything connected to earth ground being near that eel. Also, the eel may have a higher current released depending on how much stress he is under. Marine stings are best treated with the hottest water without burning the tissues. The water from the faucet is not hot enough to treat a marine sting. Pat the hot water with a cloth until it can be held down on the sting. The hot water cooks the proteins in the venom like poaching an egg white, neutralizing the poison. Hot water stops the pain and iching for minor marine stings. This should help.
Anemone stings all depend on your reactions to them. Some people will have a reaction to the sting, some don’t. However the only one that you have the likeliest chance of getting stung by (and feeling it) are carpet anemones. They stick to you and leave their modified cells on your skin. Don’t rub or eyes or lips after touching one and your fine 😂
Anemones in my experience are way over blown on there sting. Bubble tips are basically not existent even on backside of my hand. Had a carpet anemone which i found out later was a fish eater. If your hand touch's it it was like pulling duct tape off. Left a red mark and maybe a a bit itchy for the next 30 min. The clown fish though on other hand.... my breeding pair bites and draws blood regularly. Think id rather touch the electric eel then deal with the evil nemo fish in my reef lol.
omg clowns are the fuckin worst, little assholes always bite 😂 so glad i haven’t had any in a while and the ones i had last didn’t bite. what fish did ur carpet nem eat ? i’ve been thinking abt getting one
@@matthewwils Yeah once this pair are gone I'm not getting more lol, makes it so hard to work in the tank enjoyably in defense mode the whole time. It was a beautiful animal. A week later my copperband which was doing wonderful eating flake or pellets went missing. I started to look around the tank and I found the dorsal spines under anemone completely clean. Guy locally picked it up and put it in with some clarkii clowns. He luckily claims no fish loss since he has had it. It was a haddoni carpet. if i were try again id do a tank specifically for it.
I watched a documentary on these and they pulled some huge 1s out of the wild and concluded that they could kill in theory (number, size, body of water etc all contributing factors). Experiment number 2- let him grow x2 the size and take a bath with him 😅

A 1000lb horse isn’t getting killed by an electric eel dude. They don’t even kill adults, children get stunned and drown in currents. The kids don’t even die as a result of the shock.

Ever touch a capacitor in a Microwave oven? You will only do that once, then you will get an insulated screwdriver to short it out first before delving into one.
Eel shocks are meant to kill small fish. That said, a big hit will hurt. They can curl around you to give more charge. My guess is that your shock was on the light side but it’s still very unlikely to be lethal to you even with a full shock. From what I read human deaths seem to be more due to drowning after the shock than cardiac arrest (although that is a possibility).
Used to work at a pet store that sold saltwater stuff. Included in that stuff were carpet anemones. Wide as a dinner plate and will wrap around your whole arm. Sticky and tingly lol. Good to wear gloves with those big guys.
Sigh. Elementary school physics already teaches that electricity needs a circuit. In this setting that means the current is limited within the aquarium, it can barely pass through the water.

You can't rub baking soda over your skin to make being shocked by a wall outlet. That tells me the anemone doesn't produce electricity. It's likely acidic injection (hence why baking soda works, becouse it's a nutrilizing base. As for the eel, that situation defies logic as well. If you were outside the tank and grounded, you should feel it beyond water level. Otherwise if you were swiming in the water not touching the ground, the eel shouldn't be able to shock you. Also, water itself is a poor conductor. It's the minerals in the water that are conductive. Higher levals of conductive minerals makes it more conductive.
