Ordered mine last Friday, looking forward to putting it to use !! Also picked up the small wheel attachment and some indexing handles as well. I can't give any feedback yet on the product but ever time I have called with questions Don and Greg have been very helpful and informative. I really like purchasing from people that are focused on their customers as well as creating a great product.
I like it, one question though, the platen should be right behind the belt touching it, it seems that there is a gap, 1/2" between the belt and the platen, did you set it up that way, can you adjust the platen and bring it forward?
Great review. Looked up the web site . I just fabbed a custom 2x72 grinder. I would have definitely bought this if I knew in advanced . A good price and well made, seem hard to find these days . Good video 👍
These box frame designs are actually the best, simplest and strongest design possible. And they’re a lot sexier than other designs. I have my own shop made 2x72 made entirely of 6061 aluminum and I don’t regret it over steel one bit. People that don’t own a real belt grinder will say all kinds of bs like the heavier it is the better for vibration but that’s pure bs.Anything about 70+ lbs is all you need.
Indeed you do NEED to move your platen forward. It should be co-planar (in-line) with the outside of the rollers. Use a ruler to make that adjustment, without the belt on. The ONLY time you want to have a "slack belt" is if you are trying to grind round objects, such as a baseball bat, etc.
That a pity!! I live in South Africa so it wuld cos me for the machine and again that much for the shipping. If I do the exchange rate conversion it would cost me a fortune. Hope to find similar plans if available
Hellooo....I want to ask you sir....where is your country???...if i want to buy it..can you delivery to Indonesian??? Please answer my Question....Thanks before
fabulous tools these belt grinders, I am going to build one with all the good features picked out on the truck load of videos I have seen, this one is a good design features like the Bg-75 which I like.
I have to ask what RPM is your motor, I hear you explain about the variable speed but what is the motor plate say for top speed. I purchased the Reeder grinder a while back and installed a 1 1/2 hp motor with 1725 rpm, 4" drive wheel instead of the 5" drive wheel you have. I know you have more speed that I do and I don't hear your motor bog down much.
Its nice but the motor & wheels should have been on the other side so when you flip it sideways the motor is on top & you don’t need a hole in your table when it’s used on its side.
I built my own 2x72. For what it cost me I could have had your much nicer one for a few hundred more. Wish I'd have seen these videos sooner. Great job on the engineering. How can you afford to make it out of aluminum for that price? LOL
Aluminum and mild steel will cost about the same by the time shipping is paid for. Go aluminum all the way. It’s sexy . Doesn’t rust. And it’s more than adequate weight for a knife making grinder....and when your an old man you won’t have the struggle of moving this thing around the shop as you would like if it were made of steel.
Looks beautiful and about the most expensive way of making a product. This is what happens when a neophyte has access to a CAD package but no manufacturing experience. Everything machined. $$$.
Nice looking grinder but what after a couple years of hard use...looks to be aluminum...it will wear...steel will not. Good looking machine but 16 years of making knives.grinders take a beating

Excellent. Glad to hear you are having the same great experience we did so far.

Correct, you can adjust it anyway you like. This thing is completely adjustable for just about everything.
I just bought one at the advice of dave drom evader knives and i was sooooo impressed with what i got!!!
What VFD did you get to run the motor, and did you use a 2HP 3 phase motor? nice review

Very cool. Be sure to post up some feedback once you get it and use it.

Fantastic build, great looking machine. How does one get plans for this belt sander ??
I don't think they sell plans. Just the sander as a complete kit.
That a pity!! I live in South Africa so it wuld cos me for the machine and again that much for the shipping. If I do the exchange rate conversion it would cost me a fortune. Hope to find similar plans if available
Just need to find some local friends who want one as well.
Order a few and split the shipping costs.
Or, you can order a few and sell them local. ;-)

Where about are you located b/c I’m having the most difficult time assembling mr RPI SANDER
Thanks for the video. well done. I am impressed with the quality and plan on buying.
Thanks for the feedback Gary. We greatly appreciate it.
So, just 1 minute in he says that the small radius wheel acts like an orbital sander???
DOES HE EVEN KNOW WHAT AN ORBITAL SANDER IS???

tony coppe I had the same idea until I saw how inexpensive this basic unit was. I can't save nearly enough building myself to justify the labor

ours goes up to about 1750 rpm as well........ but with 5" Drive wheel.
Never bogs down no matter what we throw at it.
Hello dear friend How are you? I want to buy the product Please send the price with the final discount and thank you
I will be ordering mine as soon as I sell a couple knives lol... Martin M&S Blades
Excellent.
You need to move your platen out.
Its nice but the motor & wheels should have been on the other side so when you flip it sideways the motor is on top & you don’t need a hole in your table when it’s used on its side.
HardR, nice vid. How long did it take you to get it, if you said I missed it. Thx
Approx. 7-10 working days.
It's worth the wait. Trust us.
Did you you get small wheels for the grinder attachment? Is so where from?
We just made the small wheels ourselves on the Lathe. Very easy to do.
Ordered some highspeed bearings off eBay.
Thanks very informative
you are very welcome.
Always here to help.
