    Awesome! You are correct. The one you have is not made in America. However, we will have our own American made option available within a couple months and we will keep the price very close to that of the import. We are in the process of making the rubber and aluminum casting tools right now. Thanks for mentioning us in the video!

    • @AmeriBradeOfficial
      @AmeriBradeOfficial 6 років тому +4

      Jeff Conti Hi Jeff, we are talking with our bearing supplier. He says none of the American companies actually make their small ball bearings in America anymore, but he would still get us a price on Timken and Nachi bearings. How do you feel about Japanese bearings?

    • @jcknives4162
      @jcknives4162 6 років тому +6

      At this point anything except Chinese. Lol. Seriously. The Japanese probably do very well. I would wounded of the Germans make bearings? The quest is for high quality. I make custom and handmade knives. My customers spend quite a bit of money. I do too... on my tools.

      @SnorrioK 6 років тому +8

      There also exist high quality bearings from Sweden, company's name is SKF - almost entirely the only brand used in all of Iceland and we make a lot of our own machinery here (or well, used to, until imports became more readily available).

    Before buying this sander I would use a rotary sander ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx3Pc2vLXfcgM5oIpF1iYcIWyFhHUC-G6v and didn't see the need for a belt sander. Boy was I wrong. this belt sander does the job quickly and gives a professional finish to the wood work.

    This is my first visit to your video. Retired Electronics Technician for 30 years. Woodworking has been a life passion. Now I find myself making things to make things. Getting more and more metal working tools than I thought I would ever use.

    it is not often you come across a you tube video of a product build that is so detailed anyone could build it just off the video, no plans needed, as a welder and mfg for over 50 years making everything i ever built from a plan in my head, you did a hel of a great job, showing just about every detail, everyone else is so into making sure there video is not over 12 min.. now i ask what can one learn in 12 min,,, other then how to build a bomb...

I guess if I had had all the above I too could build my very own “homemade” belt sander too.

    It's a polyurethane wheel very similar to what's used on some forklifts. There is an adhesive sprayed on the metal then the polyurethane is poured around the wheel and heat cured in an oven, then trimmed on a lathe. Superior tire and rubber is a company that I've worked for that would custom make a wheel like this or already have something very similar as a stock item (not in-stock, just a BOM exists)

    I also wanted to state that you have nothing to worry about your welds it will hold. One more thing try making a straight razor with that wheel. You will find that it's very satisfying making a deep hollow grind. It has to be so thin on the edge that it flexes with your finger nail and not break. I loved making one. I did have one to take the dimension down but was awsome to make

    Just an FYI, there are a number of USA based contact wheel manufactures, though price will increase significantly, without an equivalent increase of performance (in my opinion). Contact Rubber Corporation is very good, especially for custom applications. Beaumont Metal Works make their own wheels, though I think the vulcanizing may be contracted out, and Bader makes wheels as well, just to name a few.
    Nice work on the attachment by the way.

    • @Jer_Schmidt
      @Jer_Schmidt  6 років тому

      I haven't been able to find anywhere that says any of those brands are made in the US? None of them publish the country of origin on their official websites. Can you give me a link to somewhere that actually says where they're made?

    • @RileyKnifeandTool
      @RileyKnifeandTool 6 років тому

      www.contactrubber.com/about.asp lists where their manufacturing facility is located, though they do have affilations worldwide, their main production is in the midwest US.
      contactrubber.com/PDF/CRC_Brochure.pdf lists their wheels as "Made in USA".
      From Beumont Metal Works' homepage: We design, engineer, and manufacture all of our products in house and can proudly state “Made in the USA”.
      They used to have some vids showing their contact wheel hubs being made. I'm not sure about the rubber, though it may be in house, it's definitely US rubber. As for Bader, I've been told by other knifemakers that they make their own wheels as well, though I don't see it explicitly stated on their web page. SunRay, Inc is another poly contact wheel maker that I'm nearly positive is a sole US manufacturer, based out of North Carolina.

    I did buy the plans for your machine. I've been making knives for over 40 years and this is a really great machine. Please provide plans for the contact wheel as you did for the machine. thank you!!!
