I would love to see them do a remake of the game with updated visuals, movement flexibility and maybe a couple new expansions, I think there's enough young people now that would have never played the original but would likely try a remake.
Guild wars 1 got me closer to my brother. We never got along or did anything. But then I got guild wars for Christmas and after showing him the game he bought it the next day. That was 2008, now in 2023 we play guild wars 2 every week and we are in our 30's.
This is me but with my father. He got it for me for christmas, within a month he got his own copy, and my uncle got his own copy haha. We played for years and years straight every day, and eventually GW2, which we dont any more (my uncle still plays though). Created a full guild, my dad created a forum/website and everything for it lol. Was great times. I know I will remember that forever and I'm sure they will too. Funnily enough regarding the same age comment, I was in elementary school at the time. I was the leader of the guild/alliance, our guild was always around maximally full so it was pretty large, and we all played together for years so we were close. I was decently composed even being that young so I am pretty sure many assumed I was an adult until I mentioned I broke my wrist "at lunch" (on the playground) . I remember at that very moment based on the responses, my cover was blown LOL
I'm 74, played GW 20 years ago (not very well!) and the moment outside the EOTN when she says "I command in Captain Langmar's absence... my name is Gwen" I swear I nearly had a second heart attack!
I’m old and was about 21 when the original guild wars came out. I played it quite hardcore. I remember farming the fissure of woe and the underworld with my friends to get the obsidian armor. The actual guild vs guild PvP and the alliance battles. The insanely epic thunderhead keep mission. Dealing with the mursaat and going through the path of ascendancy. Guild wars was a masterpiece of a game. And I was initially excited when they announced GW2 but that excitement wore off quickly when I realized it wasn’t really even the same kinda game. I resisted buying it but eventually broke down and started playing. I’ve had fun with GW2 off and on over the past 10 years, but I don’t think anything will ever top the original game.
i feel you buddy. I had about 4000 hours on the clock in guildwars. Like you i was hyped for guildwars 2 but it was such a disappointment. GW2 looks pretty but its not what made the original game fun for me.
Early in our marriage, playing GW1 was date night for us. We couldn't afford a babysitter for our 3 little ones at that time. GW1 was the substitue to a dinner, movie and sitter fees. There are so many fond memories of that time and it was a great time meating some wonderful people in game via TeamSpeak. I moved on to GW2 years later but hubby could not be bothered (maybe when he retires in a few years we can play together again (🤞🏼)) I'm now working on my college aged children to pick up the game...
Man I miss this game so much it's hard to describe. I used to play this with my daughter, everyday we used to look into the community forums to check if there is a new infamous build for PvP or ways to farm ectoplasm in the hardest areas with minimum party or solo. I miss her so much I wish I could go back in time.
It’s funny, I got GW as a kid because I wanted to play WoW but my parents wouldn’t pay the sub. So I looked for a similar game that had no sub, found this and it became one of my favorite games ever
This game helped me as I transitioned out of the Navy in 2006. If anyone reads this and knows how hard getting out can be, they'll understand. Many hours spent with guildies, friends, and I remember the people and the time we spent together more than anything. I logged in a couple weeks ago to see if my buddy was on, he still plays. This game has gotten me through depression, anxiety, helped me with addiction and also gave me friends that I still have to this day. Back when Randy Blackwolf was a noob, until having many Leather Bound Books
I 100% AGREE, i quit gw2 2 or 3years ago after no updates for WvW.even though they promised gw2 was about WvW.. Gw1 was an experience I would honestly die for to relive again. The low level PVP the expansions. the high level pvp, the G'v'Gs, the exploration aspects, the feeling of action mmorpg DnD to MMO feelings, the personalization of building your own guild which people would join by recruiting for your guild. I ran a successful Kurzick guild and kurzick allliance #2 at the time for Ab'ing and faction which i was the leader of being only 15 years old at the time. The fantization of building unique builds that were not used by anyone else in low level arenas with lower HP and using a sword instead of a bow as a ranger, the secrets of getting a pet lv 20 when you are only lv 7 the secrets of speed running areas to get ahead in the game without doing story...the progression of paying people to run you to a city far far far away when you could scam them at any moment all existed years ago.
A good friend of mine passed away a few years ago. One of my fondest memories of him was us playing Guild Wars together for years. We had such epic times playing this game, so much laughter. His nickname in the game was MoB. RIP Jurie my friend you are missed
Just recently started playing again and i'm seriously loving it. It has moved past nostalgia and now I'm just playing because it is fun. Also it was great that you remembered all the exact memories I had from it, like totally identical experiences.
@@NathanCrawford-d4r PvE with friendly people is always possible. PvP depends on the type and what the bonus weekend going on is. GvG still goes strong always if you look for a guild for it.
I feel like I need to leave a comment here for my own legacy lol. I played this game from the ages 11 until 16 - then life hit and I was unable to play for a long time. The thing I remember the most was hanging out with my guild-mates, not even so much actually playing the game. This was a group of people I spent 4-6 hrs per day for 5 years with....I hope they are all doing good and look back on their time with this game as fondly as I do. Thanks for making this video, much nostalgia was had 💖
I believe its not just about game its memory of those times, when we were kids, you had no doubts about life, no pressure and life was just simple!. Just waking up, go to school and after run back home just to play and have a fun. I played TBC back in my times and litteraly evertime i remember me going into Orgrimar or Silverwaste, crossrouds or just flying taxi about it, ohhh maaan. Those are nostalgic memories!
Guild Wars was my very first MMORPG I ever played. I was a beta tester back when they would released the beta test game at the start of every month. This game was (and is still) amazing. I still have very fond memories of my guild and doing GvG, which was an amazing aspect of the game. My guild is still intact, though empty, within GWs. I have one huge pet peeve is when folks refer to the ORIGINAL Guild Wars as 'Guild Wars 1'...grrrr! I'm now 59, still play pc games, but rarely dip into GWs. I tried Guild Wars 2, but it didn't win me over and left me feeling hollow. I would go back into Guild wars, but I find it just makes me sad, as it reminds me of all the friends and amazing players I once knew and are now no more. Although, I will say, it still makes me chuckle when I think back to when the 'flame wars' erupted on forums between WoW player fanbois and GWs fanbois - Guild Wars was the new kid on the block and a potential threat to WoW. The player rivalry between the two camps was massive, and each side looked for every and any opportunity to flame the other. Some were just plain nasty, but for the majority it was good humoured, often hilarious and would have me near to tears with laughter. I was privileged to witness an ANet moderator appear in game with their avatar and drop the 'ban hammer' on a player. The chat window went into melt down, and it was so funny. I also had the honour of chatting with Gaile Grey in game as she appeared in character. The other thing I loved about Guld wars was the Holy Trinity of Healer, Support and Warrior - epic and so much fun in GvG. What I admired about GvG was the fact that lower ranked Guilds got to play on home territory, so if you and your team appeared in a strange guild setting, you knew you were a higher ranked guild. Brilliant. Doing map runs for newbie players was an amazing, fun and warming aspect of the game. We did this for free, some players would charge gold, but to be honest, we ( I ) found it the best way to make new friends and potential new guild recruits. There was next-to-no voice comms back then, so every interaction was typed, and some of it was hilarious, and sometimes heart warming. Guild wars had a real sense of community back in the day on release - yes, we had some 'odd' people cruising the guilds to see what they could get for free then vanish, or just be there to troll everyone - but for the majority, it was a fantastic time and experience. I have dipped in just to reminisce and take my characters for a walk or two. European servers are (or were last time I saw, and forgive me if they have since been shut down) a ghost town, so I shifted to US as everyone seemed to be there who still played the game - but no one I knew. To any and all former and current players and devotees of the original, and best, Guild Wars game. I love and respect you all and you all hold a special place in my heart for keeping this beautiful and amazing game alive. Maybe I'll see you in game sometime.
My guild was one of the first of the alpha guilds. What a lot of people don't realize/remember was that AN was such a young company that the volunteer alpha testers were just that: volunteer alpha testers. We were also permitted to report back to our guilds the kinds of developments we saw, etc. A couple of months prior to release, the company decided that they wanted the finished game to be a surprise, so we were informed we were no longer able to give those reports. Testing for Factions, Nightfall, and Eye of the North were under much stricter NDAs. I have to say that testing that game was a consistent high point in my gaming experiences.
Great video! I can relate to so much of this video. My W/Mo took up most of my childhood. I was so proud of my 15k armor, obsidian helm, and icy dragon sword. I just picked it back up a few days ago. I was expecting to find an abandon, out of date game and I was very surprised how good the gameplay still is and how many people are playing. This time around I am trying paragon in nightfall.
My first MMO (2006) and it change my life, I fell in love with my partner we still play GW2 side by side today and when I nag ( recommend lol ) him to have a GW1 night we always play for hours and have such a good time. I believe the game is still fun to play today, and when that music start's in Prophecies it always brings a tear and a happy feeling of home. Thank you for uploading any GW1 content, it is great to remember those times with fans as nostalgic as myself :)
I still remember being like 11 playing my own assassin my auntie let me create on her acc and play, i still remember grinding that elite kurzick assassin armor, my first ever true MMO grind that i accomplished
You stated it beautifully with "I didn't play GW, I experienced it." That's exactly how I feel and after 19 years I find myself back in Tyria with a level 11 Minion bomber style Necro and absolutely loving it haha! Thanks for the video
I had worked to bring back my account and when I logged in the other night I learned that I had 8 Characters with no Quests. So I decided to buy the game again and go back through it. This game is my first introduction to MMOs or RPG, and I loved it. Now I spent yesterday playing it all over again and could not believe all the people that still play this still. I spend a total of 8 hours playing it yesterday and it was the first time in a very long time I wanted to call in to work to keep playing it. I could not get into GW2, having all the intences popup all the time is distracting and I don't enjoy the way it plays out. Great video.
I have a level 20 fire mage and level 20 warrior. Recently I made a fresh character, ranger and I'm doing a super slow play through with it. So nice to reminisce the old memories of faking sick to stay home from school to play this game. This game Is the mere foundation of my childhood when I wad getting into gaming. This game and 2005 runescape.
I missed Guild Wars the first time around - was playing WoW and Eve Online back in 2004-2006 - but the fiance and me played through the entirety of GW1 last year as a prelude to playing GW2 properly... glad we did. It's amazing how well it holds up, but it's also frustrating how many excellent ideas from the original were abandoned in the sequel. Like, as much as I enjoy the ridiculous 10 FPS meta event bosses with hordes of players in GW2, I find myself constantly thinking "This zone is cool; imagine how much cooler it would have been as an instanced mission environment with an actual challenge, and henchmen/heroes to make up the party gaps." And damn, the sense of journey! We literally took our characters from Ascalon pre-searing, right through to Eye of The North, and when you actually look at how the game's story leads you across the massive world map, and how you make friends along the way, and then move on, and discover new things... by the time you cross the deserts riding giant sand worms and reach the demonic hellscape of Abaddon's realm, it really hits you; that you've been on an epic adventure. As much as I love GW2, reaching the end of the core campaign in that one simply didn't hit the same note. Instead of me and the fiance being heralded as the heroes, we had... uh, Destiny's Edge inexplicably showing up to do a slow hero walk despite having done literally nothing whatsoever to assist in the defeat of Zhaitan except talk about themselves a lot then get on an airship.
When I was a child I had the pleasure of meeting a Legendary Defender of Ascalon. him and I together fought until I was level 14 in presearing. I never got the title. I came back because I want that title.
Loved this game Sooooo Much. Best example of how to best combine the ARPG genre with a MUD (Multi-User-Dungeon... Like an MMO but smaller instance based games).
I just logged back in after years and oh boy it was one of the most pleasant trips down memory lane i had From the music to the zones and my good ol cringy ass nicknames. I'm 30 now but i played the game when i was like 13 ? Like you i never really got to experience like hardcore endgame content but i remember managing to finish the main story of prophecy after GW:EN released lmao, so like 5years after i started playing the game ? Like you said, it was mainly fooling around with people, exploring, doing random quests, helping people, getting helped... Such a good times... I also felt very old when i saw that my account was 220month old so basically more than 18years old, could you imagine ? My trusty Warrior was still there, him and his dragon fiery sword i worked so hard to get because i saw the king early in the game wearing one... Truly GW:1 is a masterpiece. It deserves a remake of it graphics and textures without touching the original game, it's one of a kind. Not a single MMO out there is close to being like GW:1 it's truly an original style and no other MMO ever tried to do another GW-like game. I remember having so much fun in pvp, spending hours in random arenas, i wished there was enough people in the game to play arenas again but unfortunately nobody plays the game anymore :( Only afk stragglers or bots
I also started playing guild wars in early 2007 ... From 2007 to 2010 during highschool I had about 4000 hours played. I stopped playing for a long time but also recently returned and just slowly making my way for vanquishes. It's always so fun meeting another player in a random isolated outpost
One of the things I remember most was trying to get the Hall of Monuments completed. That includes wall hugging so you could complete maps when you could potentially miss a pixel. Okay, not quite that bad but frustrating at times. Although 2D it gave the great impression of being 3D having to go up and down hills. Seeing parts of GW1 in GW2 even if now underwater...
My sister played world of warcraft back in the day, and I was playing on his account. My mom didnt wanted to pay 2 subscription so I did buy GW prophecie and damn im so nostalgic to this day. I played 2 years ago, buying all 4 expansion and this was one of my greatest video game experience of all time.
As a teenage kid I ran a speed clearing guild for 5 years and even ran an alliance for a bit. This game left me with so many memories and experiences that I have never been able to recreate or experience again. Gw2 never scratched the itch that Gw1 made me miss. Sitting in ToA/Chantry of Secrets Waiting for the NA team to win in Heroes Ascent to give us favor of the gods so that we could enter FoW and Underworld was something else man.
I started playing shortly before Factions was released and the time until Eye Of The North was truly magic. It was my first and only MMORPG I played more than one month (even GW2 bored me after a short time because it felt like a WOW copy) and I never experienced something better in this genre. You could start casual and then become very ambitious in PVE and PVP with time. The 8 skill limitation was ingenious and even though meta builds took over after a few years it was still a wild ride in the first few years when nobody knew how to properly play his class and ArenaNet introduced new content and skills all the time. Unfortunately when people started to cry that GW is dead half a year after EOTN was released ... well ... they kind of were right. Damn, I really miss this time. My guild was like my second family for many years. We were bonded by the love for this unique and special game. Antworten
Yup best game ever. They changed the timing on the North Wall Gate years ago after GW2 came out so that you could solo through. Might even have been before they added the new pre quests for levelling. Before that you had to pull the Charr to the res shrine and let them repeatedly kill you so that they levelled up enough for you to kill them and get a little exp. Back then the LDoA title held real respect because the grind to get it was by far the hardest in the game.
i spent very many hours grinding GW2 working towards the part where it starts to become a good game. it never happened. no game ive played in the last 20 years has come near what GW1 put on the map
I'm feeling a comeback on games like this. I'm struggling not to sink all my time into GW1 and NWN Arelith. So much fun and refreshing deep while still being understandable. Todays games are missing that thoughtful strategy that engages and immerses the player.
Great video! I've been playing GW since its release. Not as many players online as there once was but still a lot of memories. I no longer play as often as I used to as I enjoyed playing with other players and most PvE is played with heroes and henchies. That's a bit too isolating and boring for me. But Fort Aspenwood is still active on weekends (4pm EST til....) all these years later and gathers a good crowd. PvP was always the best part of GW IMO (although the PvE was quite fun when you played with other humans). At least, you can still find a good group of people still playing FA.
This vid honestly hurt so much because i loved the game and it just flooded memory's of playing it and i have never gotten that joy and happiness again as a game.
The bit about the gate for the Northlands, the dev actually increased the time for the gate to be open intentionally. That's one of the QoL updates I'm glad to see happened in the time I wasn't playing. That and bigger inventory bags+xunlai panes+more xunlai panes
That whole 'shouting inspirational stuff in Shing Jea Monastery' rings a bell. Might have been in your Monastery instance a time or two back in the day.
@@CaffeinatedDad If I recall, you have to equip a "Signet of Capture" in your skill bar when going into an instance where you're trying to capture an "Elite" skill (Any skill trainer from Lion's Arch on should sell them). After defeating the shiny boss, you use it to copy his skill, which replaces the signet on the bar. If you're playing as a Warrior/Monk you'll only be able to take warrior or monk skills. If you're a Necro/Mesmer, you'll only be able to copy those skills. Also, the bosses are color-coded. Near as I remember, Warriors are yellow, Necros are green, Rangers lighter green, Elementalists red, Mesmers purple and so on...
I did it all. I played against the best GvG guilds, and I was proficient with everything except Realm of Torment. I enjoyed that game so much. But I stopped playing when I joined the military and no mmorpg has been appealing ever sincr
GW1 is so good, still. If you've never played it I would highly recommend it. You will have a great adventure and experience something unlike any other game out there. STILL worth it, I promise.
I remember leveling a warrior/priest to 16 pre-searing, running noobs through the Char for gold, and most importantly, DYES, then giving up after realizing I’d done too many quests to reach lvl20 pre-char.
It is my #1 multiplayer game for sure. I've spend over 4000 hours on Guild Wars 1 in 2.5 years with the primary focus on GvG. I have so many fond memories and achievements in that game. Nothing will ever be its equal for me. I'm glad I skipped over WoW and focused on GW1 instead. I don't regret a moment of playing that game.
they had anything back then, beautiful artworks, awesome designed lvls and mobs, with dual class you had 1 baziliion skills, giant world with awesome stand alone addons, cant stand how fucking awesome its been back then with a filled world
Before playing GW I really never got interested because it's instanced, I thought it would not feel a MMO. But after playing I realized it was totally the opposite, it was one of the best features of the game, that made possible making every game zone challenging, and you always had people grouping with you to play along. I don't know why any other MMO was made this way after GW.
And I didn't play the PVP, but having the possibility to play it without playing the story was crazy. Again, I wonder why no other game copied GW features up to today.
I had really fond memories playing GW1 Prophecies. Less for Factions, and Nightfall, but Eye Of The North ramped up again. I had the same experience in the opening areas of GW1. Don't forget the amazing composer Jeremy Soule who created the music for the game (he also created the music for Diablo 1 and 2). Guild Wars 1 had and still has the best balanced PvP in any ARPG/MMORPG.
I played both of them. I picked up Guild Wars in 2006 at a videogame store (doesnt exist anymore) when factions came out. It was the first "MMO" where you could enjoy the cool aspects of a MMO without having to pay every month. Theres no other game like it. Anet did a stunning job with Guild Wars 2 as well. That game was a black hole in my life... But its a completely different game, they might as well changed the title. It looks like guild wars(shout out to Daniel Dociu), it sounds like guild wars(shout out to Jeremy Soule) but doesnt feel like it at all. They pretty much replaced all the core game mechanics with something entirely new. This is a big part to GW2 being a much larger commercial succes, it became an instant classic and overshadowed GW1 so I guess Anet did a good job all things considered... To this day I do miss the skills/trait system of gw1 in gw2 and it makes you wonder what could have been. Your first MMO will always hold a special place in your heart.
Just a good game that kept you logging in without twisting your arm with some daily quest BS or endless grind. There just hasn't been a game like this since tbh.
FF11 was the first MMO I played but Guildwars is the first MMO I loved... and way back in the day when I purged all the mmos I wasn't really enjoying as much out of my harddrive.. FF11 and WoW would be deleted and only Guildwars would remain and I played the hell out of GW1...all the way up until GW2 came out.
there are two things from GW that i really really miss in GW2: 1st The absolute freedom of choosing skills for my own build. And 2nd the instanced stances, loved to have the whole maps just for myself! (oh yeah, i still play GW from time to time, I even got a permanent pre-searing just to enjoy that unique landscape) My main the still IS r/mo, second is N/M and my pre searing is still pure Ranger. Was I the only one who actually loved the henchies? Another thing missing in GW2... AND don't forget the ascention! Ohhh man, i remember the literal terror it caused on most players, lol GW greatest challenge: Run Lornar's Pass with just about any character, not the "meta" for it, and yes, i've done it with all base classes, some were a real pain "you know where" put it can be done!
Most players have nothing but fond memories of the game and I certainly see why, the game I'd still great to this day and I love seeing it continue that way
I love how Guild Wars was always just WoW alternate for people. It was either their parents or the subscription fee or both that got people in gw 1 lol
For me it's the Multi class and the skill builds that got me over every other rpg. You've got a pool of like 4000 skills to play around with, me and my friend used to build 3 henchmen each with builds practically unplayable by humans, but the bots would be insane with it.
Imho, one of the best games that were ever released. Very innovative in many aspects. I was very disappointed as GW2 was released, and I deinstalled it very soon. After almost 12 years of abstinence I started with GW2 again. Still I do have twisted thoughts, but I am almost fine with it.
This is how Dark Ages of Camelot is for me. I can remember killing water beetles and parthenons in the semi starting areas. I can remember vividly creating new characters and grinding into the teens before logging off for school/work the next day. I can remember my first crescent sickle drop (which was one of the best pre-level 50 weapons you could get). I still remember the first time I ran with the person I considered my best friend for more than a decade and who I would still do anything for, despite the fact that he lives in Denmark and I live in the US. DAoC will always hold a special place in my heart and the simplicity of my life and the game at the time, were truly magical.
hi, guild wars trilogy steam are on discount right now. i interest in playing it but i want to focus on quest and story instead of combat, can i breeze the combat part of the game? also how is the inventory? when i play lord of the rings online i was having fun until my inventory is full that is, i just hate limited inventory and the game just throw million of item that i cant grab. oh i also plan to play it solo. thank you.
This game focuses alot more on story in comparison to gw2. Your in a group rpg with friends (or henchman) in case you want to play solo! Inventory isn't usually a big problem at least to me
This game is what got me into necromancer gameplay, and I still love it today! And the story is just the right amount between epic and ordinary...I have to get back working towards my GWAM, gotta goooooooo
My husband wanted to play gw1 with me (he's never played it), and it gave me the itch to play again for the first time in like 5+ years. I have an alt account for storage in presearing. I left all my gold and items there, and progressed a character through the searing. Got to the Xunlai bank and was like "......fuck". I asked if someone could lend me 100g just to get into the bank (I was gonna give it back immediately after) and someone just straight up gave me 100k. I'm not a new player - or particularly poor - but as a veteran I was so heartwarmed by this. I'm gonna be paying that 100k forward forever.
I am so nostalgic about this game. Back in the day my sister played world of warcraft and i only played on her account as a kid. But my mom bough me Guildwars prophecy wich had an eye of the north expension with it. That was my very first OWN mmo on wich i had MY proper account on. Im so nostalgic that once a year at least, i come back on the game even if its not the same now it still very good to play it.
GW1 is truly a masterpiece. I compare it to hollow knight. The world is less unkown than hollow knight but the game sets it's scenes and environment similarly. The soundtrack is amazing, much of it is carried over into GW2. Such a gem, I wish I could wipe my memory and play it fresh.
I redownloaded the game after years, just because I really missed the game. No game has ever come close to gw1, and it kills me that gw2 missed the mark as much as it has.
Played it recently after 12 years again, and immediately was welcomed with typical MMO experiences. If the game just had more players like back in the days I would play it heavily again. Unfortunately pvp is impossible to play anymore except on events. And just consists of bots and dedicated players. Literally had to force stop myself self to get addicted to the game again like in the old days. Best memories, every other year I go through my 4000 screenshots from 2007-2010 and go on a nostalgic trip
I miss unlocking all skills on a character and experimenting with them. I've played at a time when we farmed with Monks running with like 5 life total. GW and SWG would be forever my favorite online games. I didn't know GW is still allive, I'd gladly make a run, although I'd have to buy it again.
The game was on sale on Steam for like, $8 not long ago. Not sure if it still is. I also started playing again about 3 weeks ago, but purely out of missing the game. Population's been slowly growing again, and PvP seems to be returning
I only completed Prophecies once but wayyyy later, even though I played maybe a thousand hours on the game. On the other hand, I've completed Factions, Nightfall and EotN. Just like you say, I don't necessarily remember the specifics things I did but I loved the atmosphere, feelings and community. Definitely remember the runs I did solo or in team to farm bosses and complete big missions like Vloxen Excavations with a full team of A
Got GW1 because I didn't want to pay per month for WoW. Played it a good 400 hours or so and did everything there is to do. Top memories: soloing the outside the wall mission pre-searing with my summoner necro (before that got nerfed) and just holding out against the army until time ran out. Running around the open world solo collecting elite skills (gotta catch em all!). Soloing FoW and UW for shards and ecto to get my edgy spikey outfits. Running people through some of the tougher missions which could actually be soloed with the right build and skill (again, minion necro pre nerf). Spending hundreds of hours trying different builds to see which missions and areas I could solo with them. Factions was alright, I enjoyed the assassin and some of the new skills. I don't think another game has ever gotten close for me.
@@CaffeinatedDad I loved the 6v6 version with bunny and paragons that was nice. I was able to carry RAH teams (random as hell) to the hall and lose to more prepared team. It was nice tho. Necro bombing was also really fun.
Oh boi, i was 8 1/2 when i picked up gw2 in 2005 and it was my first real online game because, same reason, my parents would not let me play wow and "dad found this gw game that looks cool" Fast forward 20 years i still try to talk my friends into playing it (which they won't because you can't jump... whatever) because I love it so much
We will never see another game like Guild Wars 1. So grateful that Anet keeps the game up and running.
A game ahead of itself to be sure!
I would love to see them do a remake of the game with updated visuals, movement flexibility and maybe a couple new expansions, I think there's enough young people now that would have never played the original but would likely try a remake.
Can you still play the game?
@@penezu Yes you can!!
I'm playing it on my Steam Deck and having a blast. It's one of the best games of all time.
Guild wars 1 got me closer to my brother. We never got along or did anything. But then I got guild wars for Christmas and after showing him the game he bought it the next day. That was 2008, now in 2023 we play guild wars 2 every week and we are in our 30's.
That's enough to make a grown man cry
I remember at that very moment based on the responses, my cover was blown LOL
lol how? Guild wars 1 is so much better.
@@ModestestRUST For real. Takes skill...
I am a simple man. I see GW1 video, I click GW1 video.
Honestly I may do more of my play through in gw1 for some video content. It's almost a new players first impression!
I'm 74, played GW 20 years ago (not very well!) and the moment outside the EOTN when she says "I command in Captain Langmar's absence... my name is Gwen" I swear I nearly had a second heart attack!
I got goosebumps reading your comment haha so good!
It's weird to say but I agree, the game doesn't have the same feeling as Guild Wars 1. Whike I love playing it, the original is something else
not to mention the lies about WvW as their main focus when the game was initially released
i feel you buddy. I had about 4000 hours on the clock in guildwars. Like you i was hyped for guildwars 2 but it was such a disappointment. GW2 looks pretty but its not what made the original game fun for me.
Correct, Guild Wars 2 is a completely different game because of the game mechanics.
I still play this. For around 18 years now.
Such a great game!
Best pvp ever i agree
I do aswell I play at minimum once a week
Haha you were in the same boat as me!
I played both games, I had sub for WoW but the more I got into WoW the more I realized how much better the Guild Wars is.
Glad you enjoy it! It's something great to revisit from time to time!
How is the population? PvE and PvP both still possible?
True nostalgic memories!
You stated it beautifully with "I didn't play GW, I experienced it." That's exactly how I feel and after 19 years I find myself back in Tyria with a level 11 Minion bomber style Necro and absolutely loving it haha! Thanks for the video
Best game ever - The dual-class system, Random Arena, GvG, Hall of Heroes 💖
It hits all the right notes!
Guild Wars 1 was the best thing that ever happened to me. At 40 years old, I feel a bit empty that there are no fresh experiences like it.
Like, as much as I enjoy the ridiculous 10 FPS meta event bosses with hordes of players in GW2, I find myself constantly thinking "This zone is cool; imagine how much cooler it would have been as an instanced mission environment with an actual challenge, and henchmen/heroes to make up the party gaps."
And damn, the sense of journey!
This is probably the most truthful telling of the guild wars story as there has ever been....
I miss OG guild wars so much. I logged into my account today and almost wanted to cry. I have so many good memories of this game
When I was a child I had the pleasure of meeting a Legendary Defender of Ascalon. him and I together fought until I was level 14 in presearing. I never got the title. I came back because I want that title.
Got LDoA and it was completely worth the long hours to do it. Pre-searing is a reflection of my years growing up.
GW1 was my introduction to the world of MMOs :)
Unsung hero of mmos!
Loved this game Sooooo Much. Best example of how to best combine the ARPG genre with a MUD (Multi-User-Dungeon... Like an MMO but smaller instance based games).
Oh for sure! The game does its Instanced combat and game modes perfectly!
How many characters did you have from 2007 - 2010 in the game?
@@crystalwater505 7
One of the things I remember most was trying to get the Hall of Monuments completed. That includes wall hugging so you could complete maps when you could potentially miss a pixel. Okay, not quite that bad but frustrating at times. Although 2D it gave the great impression of being 3D having to go up and down hills. Seeing parts of GW1 in GW2 even if now underwater...
Ahh the nostalgia! Great review!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks
Hey I appreciate it! This game absolutely hits nostalgia in the best of ways!
Great video. Getting back to it. I remember those days. It was such a challenge. I remember dying so many times but it was amazing.
This and RuneScape was my childhood. Thanks for bringing back some memories for me
As a teenage kid I ran a speed clearing guild for 5 years and even ran an alliance for a bit.
Oh yeah!!

I spent many hours as a 55 and 105 hp monk.
Oh God I hated that stupid rune that negates attacks more then like 10% of your hp lol
i spent very many hours grinding GW2 working towards the part where it starts to become a good game. it never happened. no game ive played in the last 20 years has come near what GW1 put on the map
Gw1 was magical. It is magical. Still does something that no other game has matched imo
still playing , never stopped.
I still boot this game up from time to time, just to see the world again and look for things I may have missed when I was younger.
I'm feeling a comeback on games like this. I'm struggling not to sink all my time into GW1 and NWN Arelith. So much fun and refreshing deep while still being understandable. Todays games are missing that thoughtful strategy that engages and immerses the player.
I have been playing older games specifically for that reason! Lol
It's hard isn't it? I loaded in and was just missing it.
You're slowly becoming one of my favorite GW related youtubers. You yanked me back to original GW and will give it another go as soon as I find time!
That was the whole plan all along lol
Halloween was awesome. so many showed up and it is getting better bro.
it is worth finishing the campaigns. GLHF
Maybe! That was my fondest memory of the game when I played it. Also I did gold farms in silverwastes lol
Also, the "shiny" enemies have special skills that you can steal from them after you defeat them...
I remember that! I need to find out hoe I can steal their skills again!
But I stopped playing when I joined the military and no mmorpg has been appealing ever sincr
awesome. I recently just got back into the addiction of GW1. but i still love it. Mash the nostalgia button!!
I hope the rumors about gw3 being on development is true and is more alike of guild wars 1.
GW1 is so good, still. If you've never played it I would highly recommend it. You will have a great adventure and experience something unlike any other game out there. STILL worth it, I promise.
Guild Wars is still one of my favourite games after all these years.
I don't regret a moment of playing that game.
they had anything back then, beautiful artworks, awesome designed lvls and mobs, with dual class you had 1 baziliion skills, giant world with awesome stand alone addons, cant stand how fucking awesome its been back then with a filled world
GW1 has still the best MMO PVP by far.
best game ever. still playing 226 months later
I'm streaming it tonight!
which campaign@@CaffeinatedDad
@paulmidd5523 still doing prophecies. Just got to yaks bend
PS Couple days ago I reinstalled gw1 for the first time in over 10 years. I couldnt believe the servers were still up so I had to see it for myself
seeing the town that empty makes me sad. i remember the time when it was bustling with people.
Oh it used to be popping. Miss this game
Just a good game that kept you logging in without twisting your arm with some daily quest BS or endless grind. There just hasn't been a game like this since tbh.
Agreed! There are a few games that hit that niche perfectly fit what an rpg was suppose to be. It was so damn goof!
Guildwars and Secret World... best ever.. Still praying for a remake.
A remake would break the mmorpg market
LOTRO and GW1 started my interest in MMO type of games.
Lotro is a game I want to get into more tbh it looks fun!
Ohhh man, i remember the literal terror it caused on most players, lol
GW greatest challenge: Run Lornar's Pass with just about any character, not the "meta" for it, and yes, i've done it with all base classes, some were a real pain "you know where" put it can be done!
Most players have nothing but fond memories of the game and I certainly see why, the game I'd still great to this day and I love seeing it continue that way
I love how Guild Wars was always just WoW alternate for people. It was either their parents or the subscription fee or both that got people in gw 1 lol
Lol legit that was my whole experience!
Havent play it for a long time, start to play again
This is how Dark Ages of Camelot is for me. I can remember killing water beetles and parthenons in the semi starting areas. I can remember vividly creating new characters and grinding into the teens before logging off for school/work the next day. I can remember my first crescent sickle drop (which was one of the best pre-level 50 weapons you could get). I still remember the first time I ran with the person I considered my best friend for more than a decade and who I would still do anything for, despite the fact that he lives in Denmark and I live in the US. DAoC will always hold a special place in my heart and the simplicity of my life and the game at the time, were truly magical.
hi, guild wars trilogy steam are on discount right now. i interest in playing it but i want to focus on quest and story instead of combat, can i breeze the combat part of the game? also how is the inventory? when i play lord of the rings online i was having fun until my inventory is full that is, i just hate limited inventory and the game just throw million of item that i cant grab. oh i also plan to play it solo. thank you.
its such a steal for $7
This game focuses alot more on story in comparison to gw2. Your in a group rpg with friends (or henchman) in case you want to play solo! Inventory isn't usually a big problem at least to me
I see the title, thumps up. Back to gw1!
This game is what got me into necromancer gameplay, and I still love it today! And the story is just the right amount between epic and ordinary...I have to get back working towards my GWAM, gotta goooooooo
I'll prolly settle for CWAMM lol
@@CaffeinatedDad already done, now I must aim higher XD
I had a similar experience playing wow classic. It felt like a riskier world and that everything i did had weight to it.
Oh for sure! I liked that there was strategy along with it. Playing through the story and exploring while also trying not to die!
Guild Wars 1 for ever ❤
Pre-Searing Ascalon is still my happy place, sometimes I log in just for the vibes and farm some Charr while at it. Gotta keep those furries at bay.
Possibly the best comment I've gotten in a while lol
Funnily enough my core memories of this game are playing it with my parents, my mother even got GWAMM.
I'm enjoying a playthrough on my streams right now. Still a hell of a game all these years later!
yes, I love grinding in this game ♥
Still one of the OG best games!
@@CaffeinatedDad yes
I got my account back from 2006. So crazy
What what!
I redownloaded the game after years, just because I really missed the game. No game has ever come close to gw1, and it kills me that gw2 missed the mark as much as it has.
Interesting video !
Still playing this masterpiece for a few weeks every year
Riight?! It was my first mmo. Forever in my heart ❤
Who remembers the great "Monk Strike" in the fall of 2005?
i spent loooooot of hours in GW1 :D I played that during 5 years with some breaks 😅
Game still holds up today! I'm doing a playthrough on my streams!
@@CaffeinatedDad thats amazing 🤩
I miss unlocking all skills on a character and experimenting with them. I've played at a time when we farmed with Monks running with like 5 life total.
GW and SWG would be forever my favorite online games.
I didn't know GW is still allive, I'd gladly make a run, although I'd have to buy it again.
The game was on sale on Steam for like, $8 not long ago. Not sure if it still is. I also started playing again about 3 weeks ago, but purely out of missing the game. Population's been slowly growing again, and PvP seems to be returning
@@Warkrunner, I got it from their website, way to support their servers, I hope.
I'm still coming to terms with someone saying from my childhood about this game, I'm definitely ageing
The pvp system was perfect. Long live bbq bay!
Agreed!
@@CaffeinatedDad I loved the 6v6 version with bunny and paragons that was nice. I was able to carry RAH teams (random as hell) to the hall and lose to more prepared team. It was nice tho.
Necro bombing was also really fun.
Oh boi, i was 8 1/2 when i picked up gw2 in 2005 and it was my first real online game because, same reason, my parents would not let me play wow and "dad found this gw game that looks cool"
Fast forward 20 years i still try to talk my friends into playing it (which they won't because you can't jump... whatever) because I love it so much
