    bonjour mes amis sur leur bateau. Hello Ryan and Elena. greetings from me in Northern France where we are RE confined, under curfew and only allowed to wander 1 km for daily walks with permission slips. so you video is a way that i can vicariously leave the house. yummy potatoes.. i imagined some fried onions with the potatoes. please take care and again thanks for your videos.

    Water-based contact glue is a real blessing glueing such large areas in a confined space without getting stoned from the fumes. We glued 1 cm thick polythene closed-cell foam to the inside of the hull and deck in the forepeak and - presto - all previous problems with condensation gone.

    She's looking very smart from the water, Skua that is. Businesslike looking chain plates too!

    You are great at making one feel like they are actually there with you. Nice scenery captures and facts and details about your anchorages. Good stuff and as always thanks for sharing with us.

    I love how you can just pull up the anchor and sail a few miles to another bit of paradise. You both know your jobs when it comes to moving on, and Skua just moves to your direction! How are you kids doing health wise? Any reoccurrence of those health issues from a few years back? You both look so very healthy!

    Those ‘abandoned’ restaurants used to do fab food pre COVID. They are difficult to access by land - quads or ATV’s from the road above - had some great fish there.

      Yes, our friends said they closed in March and haven't even been thinking of opening for this season.

    Whoops...got too hasty sending my post. One thing that caught my attention was Elena's comment about how difficult it is finding a good boarding ladder. This month Practical Sailor sent out a request to sailors for their experiences and suggestions and will be doing an article about them. You can weigh-in at their website: www.practical-sailor.com/blog/in-search-of-the-perfect-portable-boarding-ladder.

    What a beautiful place. I hope Elena is all better. Dengue can be tough. We thankfully avoided it while in Hong Kong in '03. Always love seeing you guys and that beautiful Tanaya. We have a 1979 Orion 27 which I have been fixing up which has many similar 'salty' looks like your boat. If we lived near a coast, we'd have a Tanaya or Hans C.... but we live in Colorado and needed to have a trailerable boat. Love those adventures and sharing the less glamorous tasks of boat life like having to fix a v berth headliner. Keep it fun,..as you trek along.

    Guys do you make sure there are no sharks around before you swim off the boat?
    My small Mirage sailing boat suffered with falling headlining. The foam backing gives up after time and can be accelerated by the smallest of leaks through the coach roof. I ended up making ply panels on which I stapled and glued new foam backing. Then I glassed in balsa wood strips on the underside of the coach roof and then screwed the new ply panels. The idea was if the foam backing came off again it would be easier to fix.
    I am told by a broker friend that the foam backing coming away is known as « the Westerley droop »!
    As always, I wish you fair winds, tides and currents.

    Looks beautiful! Skua's looking good, hope you find a ladder as having the steps right against the hull looks like a pain. But, if that and loose headliner are the problems du jour... you are lot better off than most of the world!

    Hi, great video! i just noticed that you have two bobstay attachment points on the hull. Did you think about connecting the lower one also to the bobstay, or to the bowsprit for extra security? Bet regards, Tibor

    Massive external chain plates. How are they bonded internally to hull?

    Great video. Thanks for sharing. I'm not sure I understand the "off grid" sailboat description. To me, sailboats are by definition not on the grid unless you're sitting at a marina full time - which would just then be a house boat?

    • @SailingKittiwake
      @SailingKittiwake  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks. You could sit on a boat anchored in a big city and we'd argue that's not being off grid... you need to be anchored in nature with no supermarket, restaurant, laundry,... option to be off grid :) Just our 2 cents.
