The idea of trading Helsley while his value is extremely high isn’t a bad one. The only problem is the Cardinals have a recent history of getting the wrong end of trades. Perhaps if Bloom takes over the decision making process, I would be more in favor of making a deal.
For Helsley, it could be a confidence thing where he feels confident closing games instead of starting games. Plus, how long would it take to extend him to pitch more innings?
My other question is: Why won't the Cardinals take a flyer on Trevor Bauer (who's not coming off a major injury) vs. signing a reclamation project of a pitcher who's coming off a major injury?
What about the money they spent on Yadi?
I know you were just spit balling, but Louis Roberts Jr is a strikeout machine..I think contact hitters/low k rate hitters are more valuable. Converting Helsley over to a starting pitcher is not a bad idea. Would he go for the idea? I know Siani has a weak bat, but I would hate to bet against him I think he is just one of those guys that will put the hard work in to get better. They should keep Herrera he puts the bat on the ball consistently they would regret trading him away unless they got something significant back in a deal.

I can see both sides of a Helsley trade. I think we could get some really good pieces for him, however like you said, having him is a luxury and will be a very long time we see another closer as good as him in STL.

Okay, so the Helsley issue...if you try and turn him into a starter, it will take at least 2 months of the season to eval. Someone has to replace him in the BP, so he either loses his BP spot or not. As for the injury concern. Throwing 90, 100 mph fastballs is MUCH more stressful on his arm than pitching 10, 3 days a week.

I lean toward trading Helsley to maximize his value, but what are your thoughts about trading JoJo Romero as well? He's got two years left, and even though 2023 was better than this year he was still a good reliever. I'm also in the boat where I'm not looking to trade Burleson, but he's also not a deal breaker if he can be packaged to get us a controllable pitcher like Bryce Miller.

The most important position on the field and at 87.5 million Willie can't stay on the field? All 3 hit.....But Contreras is the only one that can even come close to throwing out a base runner! So now what? Cini and the Brew Crew ran all over these Catcher's costing us "L's". Just more money spent in the wrong way. 😖👈

Yup. Contreras is cool but paying him $87 mil because Molina retired is not smart baseball. Arenado, Goldschmidt, Contreras, Mikolas, Matz, that’s a lot of money being spent on non elite talent (post 2022)

It’s not predetermined that Scott even plays next year. His whole hype was based around a flashy 2 weeks of power. Mix that in with people getting attached to him bc they watched him in the minors and that’s how you get that weird Siani hate campaign. Posts Sianis WRC+ crying that it’s the worst in history then people tell him if Scott qualified his would be lower😂

Why do we assume Scott will get close to Sianis level defensively? Siani has the instincts that Scott doesn’t have. “His reaction (0.3) and route (-0.2) rankings are below the league average” but we assume he’ll eventually become elite defensively solely because his speed?

Get a LF power hitter. *Rooker would be cool ... Keep Siani Scott Walker ... Platoon Burelson and Baker at 1st ... Donovan/Segesse/Winn/Arenado ... Contreras/Pages ... we sink or swim with Walker. If we get 125+ Bombs between Walker. LF. Catcher and 1st. We are living high
