For Helsley, it could be a confidence thing where he feels confident closing games instead of starting games. Plus, how long would it take to extend him to pitch more innings? My other question is: Why won't the Cardinals take a flyer on Trevor Bauer (who's not coming off a major injury) vs. signing a reclamation project of a pitcher who's coming off a major injury?
Okay, so the Helsley issue...if you try and turn him into a starter, it will take at least 2 months of the season to eval. Someone has to replace him in the BP, so he either loses his BP spot or not. As for the injury concern. Throwing 90, 100 mph fastballs is MUCH more stressful on his arm than pitching 10, 3 days a week.
I know you were just spit balling, but Louis Roberts Jr is a strikeout machine..I think contact hitters/low k rate hitters are more valuable. Converting Helsley over to a starting pitcher is not a bad idea. Would he go for the idea? I know Siani has a weak bat, but I would hate to bet against him I think he is just one of those guys that will put the hard work in to get better. They should keep Herrera he puts the bat on the ball consistently they would regret trading him away unless they got something significant back in a deal. Players I would like the Cardinals to check in on. Logan Gibert George Kirby Ryan O'Hearn Lordes Gurriel Jr Yandy Diaz JJ Bleday Brent Rooker Sal Frelick Andrew Vaughn Lawrence Butler Andrew Benetendi.....the Sox would have to take Miles and Matz full contracts back in a trade...plus some sort of other compensation as well as he has a bad contract. 3 yrs left on it Santander...but only offering $14-$17 million per year. He's good, but not convinced he's $20 plus million good despite this years numbers. Just some of players I like that's all ..some may not make sense to pursue
The idea of trading Helsley while his value is extremely high isn’t a bad one. The only problem is the Cardinals have a recent history of getting the wrong end of trades. Perhaps if Bloom takes over the decision making process, I would be more in favor of making a deal.
I can see both sides of a Helsley trade. I think we could get some really good pieces for him, however like you said, having him is a luxury and will be a very long time we see another closer as good as him in STL.
I'm really surprised nobody brings this up? So I'll be the "Elephant in the room." We currently have 3 Catcher's THAT CAN'T THROW OUT ANYONE! Think about that? The most important position on the field and at 87.5 million Willie can't stay on the field? All 3 hit.....But Contreras is the only one that can even come close to throwing out a base runner! So now what? Cini and the Brew Crew ran all over these Catcher's costing us "L's". Just more money spent in the wrong way. 😖👈
Yup. Contreras is cool but paying him $87 mil because Molina retired is not smart baseball. Arenado, Goldschmidt, Contreras, Mikolas, Matz, that’s a lot of money being spent on non elite talent (post 2022)
I lean toward trading Helsley to maximize his value, but what are your thoughts about trading JoJo Romero as well? He's got two years left, and even though 2023 was better than this year he was still a good reliever. I'm also in the boat where I'm not looking to trade Burleson, but he's also not a deal breaker if he can be packaged to get us a controllable pitcher like Bryce Miller.
It’s not predetermined that Scott even plays next year. His whole hype was based around a flashy 2 weeks of power. Mix that in with people getting attached to him bc they watched him in the minors and that’s how you get that weird Siani hate campaign. Posts Sianis WRC+ crying that it’s the worst in history then people tell him if Scott qualified his would be lower😂 Also Nootbar in center? Explain to me how Nootbar is good without telling me how unlucky he is.
Why do we assume Scott will get close to Sianis level defensively? Siani has the instincts that Scott doesn’t have. “His reaction (0.3) and route (-0.2) rankings are below the league average” but we assume he’ll eventually become elite defensively solely because his speed?
Let Lynn and Gibson walk. Trade Matz and Mikolas. Maybe Fedde. *Sign Fried ... Fried. Gray. Pallante. Fedde/Mathews/Mcgreevy ... Trade Gorman. Herrera. And/or Noot ... Get a LF power hitter. *Rooker would be cool ... Keep Siani Scott Walker ... Platoon Burelson and Baker at 1st ... Donovan/Segesse/Winn/Arenado ... Contreras/Pages ... we sink or swim with Walker. If we get 125+ Bombs between Walker. LF. Catcher and 1st. We are living high

Logan Gibert

Lordes Gurriel Jr
Yandy Diaz
JJ Bleday
Brent Rooker
Sal Frelick
Andrew Vaughn
Lawrence Butler

What about the money they spent on Yadi?

They can t because of the rule changes.plus when your goddamn take their time going to the it makes it next to impossible to throw any body out.

I’d think you would have to eat at least 15 million on that mikolas deal
Yeah even then who would want to trade for a 5th starter… 5th starter for your AAA team😂
Do you think Chaim Bloom will move into the POBO role after the 2025 season?
Ryan made quite the statement last night. Made the Indians hitters look foolish.
Why wouldn't the cardinals fire oil if they're rebuilding next year
To be fair, they hired Yadier Molina and he did nothing :P
They should make the minor league one of the top 5. Cheap good minor leaguers coming up would allow them to pay for 3&4 top free agents.
Think they would like to look at my cards from the 80s? Not preteen condition. Plus I live 8 hours away. Lol. I have like 3 or 4 books full.

I also think they’ll get rooker
Most likely to be traded: 1. Mikolas, 2. Gorman, 3. Pages
With next year going to another year like this year
I would trade Helsey for max value
The O"s just released Kimbrel
10:45 In - I only see a Trading of Burleson if they bring Goldschmidt back.
