Doesn't bother me at all that there are no Cardinals in the All Star Game. I do like the ASG because it's baseball, but I don't want to take a chance that one of our players would get hurt. And I'm thrilled Helsley isn't pitching. Just being selfish in wanting our guys to be healthy and rested for our games.
@@Jammin_jenn i almost think it's BETTER that they have nobody in it, particularly no pitchers. No need for a stress inning that doesn't count. Not in this season lol
I may be showing my age but I do kind of remember in the late 50's and early sixties, Gillette sponsored a syndicated Homerun Derby program which pitted the likes of Mantle and Mays, or Boyer vs Killebrew. I can still watch many of those on UA-cam. I like that format better than the current all-star version.
I enjoy the ASG and I love my Cardinals, but honestly... there isn't really anyone else on the squad that deserves to be on the All Star roster this year. Someone else getting a participation trophy invitation would have felt awkward to me, and honestly our bullpen desperately needs some rest right now, Helsley especially. My only real focus right now is on what the Cardinals will or won't do at the trade deadline. The ASG is fun, but doesn't really mean anything. Our season probably hinders on choices Mo and team make two weeks from now.
3:49 I had zero interest in the ASG anyway and wouldn't have been staying up to watch it but i am glad Helsley is now not participating as it might help us down the stretch.
How many wood bat summer leagues are used by these college guys? Do you just have to guess how they will adjust to wood after all the metal/composition bats? I thought there wrecked some summer leagues where college guys played (especially the players with potential draft status) that used wood bats for that reason. I missed one point: you mentioned Marion county, but I missed which state it was. I am from Marion County, Illinois, which is only about 80 miles straight North/NE from STL, so we all grew up Cardinal fans. If from there, those guys have to be thrilled. Hope the dream comes true. Those guys, from Gary G (couldn’t spell his last name), a couple of catchers and several pitchers, one I do not know waas from my little village, paid to make amazing improvements to the main baseball field (high school to club baseball) in Kinmundy, Illinois (around 750 people); a relief pitcher had an NLB career (then, Japan for a couple of years, at $1 dollars/year) was from the next town of 600, Farina, Ill. There are very, very few kids that ever make event-1 basketball, almost none the NBA (Doug Collins was from Benton, Illinois, the last I recall). It is just cool to see the kids that grow up idolizing baseball and baseball players, kids who grow up in zip code 00000 and make it! Blessings for them, as well as to you and your own dream job! Still a big fan, K
A lot of them do play in those summer leagues but there's surely some guesswork involved too in knowing how guys may transition. Thank you for the kind response 😃
I hate not seeing a Cardinal player but I don’t believe anyone else was worthy so it is what it is. I’m also fine with not adding pitches to his arm on the season though
I'm glad Helsey isn't pitching and taking a break. It's a statement about Mozaliak's teams that we have a lot of good players, but no all-stars. Especially with Goldschmidt and Arenado out of the running, we don't have any all-stars better than our other players. It's really a meaningless game as far as the playoffs are concerned, so rest up and enjoy the break Cardinals ❤
Good move from the Royals. You know what your getting with Harvey. There is no guarantee with prospects and picks. I think Helsley made a good decision. I never watch the All Star game live. I checked out Brebbia he does look good
Good. Hoping Ryan enjoys a nice restful break. Funny how what is essential for us in our lives changes as we age. Among the things that used to be crucial was the all-star game. Now thinking the game is best served by giving players a break. Used to be excited about the HR derby because of my love of Big Mac. Now zero desire to see the side show. Thinking the game would be best served with the focus on the actual genius of the game. Go Cardinals. Take this time to regenerate and clear your heads to come out firing on all cylinders and win. It’s fun. Baseball is a cerebral pastime. Not some carnival act that the clowns running it are trying to make it.
I agree that it's a side show/spectacle. But I did just have a thought... Would love to know what you guys and B think of this... The Rickwood game was so amazing and I kinda assumed it was going to be an annual thing but then realized I guess it was a one off. What if they did the Rickwood field game every year and made that the stage for the all star game. I might be more interested in it in that senario.
I think this is an interesting idea! I know logistics are tough to put events on there, it was an undertaking but that's a fun idea. I guess other cities would be mad they don't get a turn to host.
Man you’re dead on about the broadcasting crew last night. I was watching from the beginning and I still didn’t have a clue what was happening 😂 I counted 3 times when one of the announcers said “well that’s not a home run” as the ball was literally smacked into the second deck. And probably 5 times they’re glorifying a shallow outfield pop up. Made it seem like they had no clue what a home run swing looks like so you’re right I think they were just adding fake excitement to their voice but I didn’t like it.
That national anthem was the worst Ive ever heard. Horrible. Honestly, there isnt anyone else on this team that deserves to be on the all star team. Maybe next year.
What is this all about the slot. Heard someone else talk about it but don't understand. Also, some of these can be trade bait. Holiday could be a pipeline because of Holliday. Maybe.
Basically in MLB draft you have a slot value for a draft pick signing bonus but you can pay him more than that if it's say, a high school kid that has committed to college but you need to convince him to sign pro instead of honoring the commitment to play college ball. That is the most prominent example. But you only have so much money in the total pool of bonus money each draft and without a 2nd round pick they have even less since they don't have the money associated with that pick available to allocate.
Get rid of the all star game I wana see a home run derby where every team has 1 player in it. Make it so the winner chooses a charity to donate a winnings pool of like 5 million not 1 million so guys like judge, trout, ohtani will do it. You could also pit it NL vs AL for home field advantage in the Ws maybe NL homers Vs AL homers. Make it a 2-3 night event because you can’t do 30 guys in one day. Not a perfect idea but I wana see all the good power hitters hit bombs and give them something to play for not a meaningless 9 inning game and a derby of B tier power hitters
I don't care about the ASG. I care about pennants and World Series wins. When I was a kid and players wanted to win ASG for pride, it was fun. I don't care anymore because the players don't.

Yea, I get it, because when I was a baseball player in Little League to High school even, I looked forward to seeing guys I idolized. Now, I just ignore the game.
