Hey everyone,
My apologies, at approximately 48:00 there is a segment missing where I talk about the advantages of a rifle/pistol combo in caliber .22 LR
light inexpensive guns, light inexpensive ammo, easy to carry on long foot movements.
Absolutely. Mine is a 10/22 and a colt new frontier revolver.
A lot of people underestimate how nice having a .22 is, a thousand rounds doesn’t weigh nearly as much as a thousand rounds of a cartridge like 9mm or .223, and while it may be down on power, it’s not the absolute worst
No apologies necessary Paul your work is greatly appreciated
PS I will also be watching both versions the long and short presentations again many thanks Paul for your great work
We'll let it slide..... this time.....
I've got the same takedown 10/22 that you do, but mine has an old 2.5x scope on it that had been kicking around in junk drawers for almost a decade without a home. I've also got a Keltec P17, fantastic little shooter, the thing fully loaded weighs less than an empty squirt gun.
I've ALSO got an Advantage Arms 22lr conversion slide kit for my Glock 17. Very useful piece of equipment to keep handy, as for almost no weight or space you can convert your 9mm to shoot 22lr if needed. Also way more reliable than the Glock 44.
Only Paul would start a 2 hour video by saying “we’re under a time constraint”
Ah, not too bad. I watch him at 1.75x speed. Makes it take less time and get all the info. Plus, it's an interesting topic.
I want Paul to do the 4 hour version.
@@brummbar9597 Be honest, you want to watch him do a 4 hour live stage version. Its ok man, we all want that
It’s 2023, man.. what we REALLY want is the 24 hour version.
😂😂😂😂😂
"Foraging" at the gun store sounds like a great way to end your TEOTWAWKI gameplay early. Also, when SHTF, the people who work at the big box sporting goods store are going to "forage" all the guns and ammunition for themselves long before anyone else gets out there, and I'm sure there's going to be nothing by the time the first looters show up.
The people who own the main gun store in my town live way out in the sticks. They'll be holed up in their rural bunkers for a month before they venture into the city to check on their stock. I guarantee it'll be gone by that point. Not that I'll need any of it.
Great point I used to work for Bass pro shops, and it was joked about by a few of the managerial staff and the security guys both agreed, were something to go happened, trust worthy employees would be deputized.
@@popefacto5945doesn't even have to be the owners though someone may get there early and try and clean out the whole place with a few of their buddies, definitely contested territory either way
@@popefacto5945The main concern isn't that the shop owner will be defending his stock (unless you're early enough lol), the concern is that everyone else without weapons or ammo will also be raiding the store
I think the foraging bit can also refer to a long abandoned, largely ransacked gun store with a few zombies inside from a 'The Walking Dead' scenario. You still might find some 28 gauge shells!
Two hours of Paul? I'm all in
Hell yeah, thunderstorm outside, coffee and a 2 hr video from Paul. Perfect timing.
Yep. I'm in.
Count me in
Same here im all in as well
Huh? Did I miss something?
I think its important to remember that in these situations, community building is one of the best defenses for a lot of issues that come up.
Absolutely. People you can trust are priceless in this situation.
Humanity has always survived by forming tribes. No matter the cause of an extended grid down situation, without modern utilities and supply chain, you'll be a part of a tribe or you won't live very long.
A side note is those who think they will go "lone wolf" or "lone mountain man" in an extended grid down situation will either quickly realize they are idiots and join a tribe, or they'll quickly be dead.
The lone mountain man living in the wilderness is 100% myth. Mt men actually traveled in groups of 50-500. They set up a main camp, then smaller groups ranged out exploring, hunting, trapping, etc. These smaller groups frequently returned to the main camp and the main group frequently returned to society.
99.99% of those that tried to go solo for extended periods of time quickly returned to society or died.
That's exactly why the extremely few that made pretty good runs at it are still revered to this day:
99.99% of humanity couldn't do what they did.
Unfortunately, that is not the situation in America at this time.
@@duxdawgI don’t mean to sound like asshole.. but I’m curious as to where you obtained this historical information? Did you study mountain men, read a book, or have them in your family?
I love how Paul expresses his unique sense of humor with the quote" depending on what your particular fantasy is"😂
😂😂😂
normalcy bias
I believe he truly is a genuine fanatic 🤣
@fuqutube not really, there had only one 1 event in recorded history that could really be called an "teotwawki" event and it's known as the bronze age collapse.
This hypothetical event is an extremely rare one with an infinite amount if possible but highly unlikely scenarios.
It's not unreasonable to prepare for such an event, but to beleive any paticular scenario and invest heavily to that is a fools errand.
Watching Paul is like having a UFO experience where hours seem like 5 minutes.
Five minutes seems like hours.
But also, the anal probing...
Lol so true but this man has loads of knowledge
I could imagine a long afternoon at the bar listening to this guy.
Plus, it's a movie about an alien, so.....
Paul ….. please don’t worry about this being “too long” I would sit thought a 12 hour presentation if you made them , we need more damn caveats in our lives!!!!
No, we need less idiots, know-it-all and fools.
Honestly.
Nothing better than a "dawn of time explanation"
I want more anecdotes.
Need some yabbuts too!
The story about the soviet early warning officer is absolutely true. His name was Stanislav Petrov. Literally everyone who is alive today is alive because of what he refused to do one night in 1983. Had he followed procedure world war 3 would have been fought that night. Look him up, the story is incredible.
lol. moron. there is only one country in this world, ever since the 1940s, who would be willing to start a nuclear war, and it definitly wasn't russia in the 80s, nor russia today, nor china, nor any of the enemies of the USA.
Yup, there was another incident where geese showed up as missiles. A Russian refusing to turn the key saved us that time also. + Cuba missile crisis. Any other president besides Kennedy and that is probably going nuclear.
Don’t forget about Vasily Arkhipov during the blockade on Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crises. Truly unnerving how many times nuclear war almost came.
@@jarrenrochester1879 Very good point, he should also get lots more recognition than he does.
Those are the ones they let us know about😮
I love the repeated use of the word "Fantasy" in this video. I believe that if/when SHTF and we have TEOTWAWKI, it will be beyond anything most people could even imagine and even the little things that we don't consider will make a difference. I remember being surprised when a friend of mine, who is a wildland firefighter, told me that one of the issues they faced often was being stung by crazed yellowjackets. Makes sense once I learned about it. The yellowjacket's home is threatened by something beyond their comprehension and they attack what they perceive as the threat. Better hope that our fellow man is not like the yellowjacket when SHTF.
General Sherman's memoir is surprisingly self aware, but one of my favorite passages is where he remembers a time at the battle for Chattanooga, Lookout Mountain when yellow jackets kept running off his artillery crews. He thought it worth remembering how his men would stand steady under musket fire, but the hornets were enough to unnerve them.
Study Katrina
Most Americans were peaceful and looking to help each other.
Cops on the other hand murdered people left and right, even ambushed and massacred a group trying to get to the Superdome for help.
The lesson from Katrina? For future SHTF conditions? Trust your fellow Americans we will circle wagons, protect the neighborhood, and do our best to make sure everyone makes it through. Kill law enforcement on sight if u value your family's neighbor's lives.

@@scottsammons7747man hornets are nasty fuckers, don't think we have yellow jackets in Bulgaria but even the ones we have a bad. Paul saying he was a kid when Mt. St. Helens exploded made me feel instantly ancient.
I remember MT St Helens. I was in high school.
I built a picture frame for the natgeo cover story in "shop class"
My older brother was a baby but he was very close to Mount St Helen when it went off
It's come out that a lot of people trying to evacuate the fires down in Hawaii were forcefully turned away from evacuation routes on major roads, forcing them to remain within the fire zone. People had to either run the blockade and smash through wooden road barricades, or just abandon the vehicle and hike it around the blockade.
Plan accordingly.

They liked the M1-M2 Carbines too. Whatever they could desert from the ARVNs with. Didn't matter; we killed the hell out of the little bastards anyway. Yes, and we killed females occasionally. This guy likes the US carbine. I never liked the US carbine. In 1966 an Aussie Sgt. Major told me he liked the M-16. He said he couldn't blow an arm off with their 9MM (STEN MK IIs) and the M-16 would do it. Rated the .30 carbine as only marginal over the 9MM with FMJ bullets.
Really, the first and best gun you need is a good SILENCED 22 pistol. With that one, you can get anything else you need.
@@tomgoodwin9161 these are your fellow Americans you’re talking about “procuring” things from with a silenced .22 lol
@@tomgoodwin9161 This is the reason nobody really likes the US anymore, after the numerous war crimes come to light (Which nobody gets convicted for of course) it just becomes more and more clear that the US is just like the other states that does these kinds of things, the only exception is that the US uses its immense power to get away with it and silence any dissenters (Julian Assange comes to mind, Arab Spring etc)

The story teller character Paul has created and dare I say perfected, as he weaves big comfy blankets of stories for his over a million eager viewing audience members, is just the tip of the iceberg that is the genius of Sir Paul Harrell. Nobody will never know how deep that iceberg is just below the surface, but it’s an honor nonetheless.

Wildlife were nearly wiped out in many areas, and many species imperiled during the great depression due to commercial and subsistence hunting.
I don’t imagine another economic crisis of similar magnitude with our current population would leave much standing.
True , It would take decades to get numbers up if it ever happens. I pray it doesnt.
Damn, I never thought about that. Thanks for posting that tidbit.
Two problems, with that theory, although it is not a bad theory:
1: during the great depression a much higher percentage of people were within one generation of getting a significant percentage of food from hunting under normal circumstances. Most modern people really don't know how to hunt well enough to live long enough to wipe out that much game, if game becomes critical for their survival. Additionally, due to different circumstances, much more food was kept on hand at the time, meaning that in the case of a total shut down now food would run out much faster meaning that people would have less time to adjust to the new normal.
2: actually, particularly with deer/cattle the problem leading to their scarcity was several diseases particularly the hoof worms and hoof rot. Whether or not diseases break out in the wild populations would be a critical component in determining whether or not hunting is viable.
Tldr: Don't bet too heavily that it will go one way or the other.
@Borracho Porrero
That is true! If anything can weather intense hunting pressure it is those bastards. I’ve had discussions with biologist colleagues about the potential and the general consensus is that they’d hold up much better to sustained subsistence hunting over an indeterminate period than deer would.
@@vidard9863
You make good points. That being said, in 2020 there were many first generation hunters hitting the woods and they had good general success. Our wildlife populations and habitat have benefited from a hundred years of conservation management and regulation though.
I imagine you’d see the poacher class turn to commercial hunting as a means of furthering their own personal wealth by providing for desperate people. With modern tech and weapons they could be much more successful than commercial hunters in the early 1900s. Any idiot can take a night/thermal optic equipped weapon and drop deer to their heart’s content.
Looking back the the mid 1800s, the primary culprits of wildlife decline was habitat destruction and commercial hunting. Don’t underestimate people’s capacity for destruction, especially when faced with starvation.
The fact that a year ago, I was living life normally, watching Paul’s videos and I’m back here today and he has passed away is a big reality check, while we need to prepare for gun fights, the majority of us will die of natrual causes. I watched this in four, half-hour-long segments over four days as I got ready for work in the morning, and it made me realize something that is missing from the world: a Paul Harrell daily podcast!
As verbose as he is, I'm not sure my phone can hold more than two.😂
He'd want to re-record everything when he perceived a problem with his delivery. But I've never noticed him do a shatneresque delivery or transpose words. I assume it happens, but not enough to interrupt the flow of the video (or podcast).
as a guy who does not own guns, this is a trip down someone else's street. informative, non paranoid / political. factual, honest. info packed session here. no plans to buy a gun, definitely interested in the next presentation and grateful for the work put in here, in your case Paul, a lifetime of training and explaining. thank you.

Lightweight cheap ammunition is a very attractive combo and a fantastic choice. But don’t underestimate the violence more competent calibers bring to the table. Don’t want to find ourselves severely outgunned in our imaginary toewawki scenario lol
I'm in the same boat. I live in NYC, it is very difficult to get a gun license here. When I retire in the country, that will change.
@@stuntmantequila Toewalkie and call it a day lol
@allan thomas certain leftist strongholds like NY , IL, WA, MI, and likely a few others have draconian laws. Requiring licensing and registration.

Hey, Paul! Thanks for another great video. If you don't mind, here's a pro audio tip. The sound of the wind in this one was very distracting, so I ran the playback audio through an equalizer. I started reducing the audio at around 180 Hz and below. At 90 Hz and below, it was reduced by about 11 decibels. This takes a little of the bass out of your voice, but the deep sound of the wind was almost eliminated. A little EQ'ing and a windscreen for the mic (one of the fluffy ones with long fibers) will greatly improve your audio quality in windy conditions. Sorry for this "Wanna know what you're doing wrong?" sort of comment. Thanks for the videos. I have always found your work to be very informative and entertaining.
Well said manly advice.
Constructive criticism should always be welcome
I hope that Paul understands that the reason why we don't mind him talking about topics that have been talked to death by other FA UA-camrs is because for a lot of us, he's one of the only FA UA-camrs we watch. The only other two being Forgotten Weapons and Hickock45 for me. Not only that but Paul delivers the information in such a concise way without a thousand jump cuts and rambling to artificially increase viewer retention like sooo MANY FA UA-camrs do.
Gunblue490 is an incredible channel with a ton of technical knowledge.
Hoplofeil is like a younger, more cranky Paul. Both are Oregonians too to boot
I also like how Paul doesn’t have stupid skits that take up the whole first half of the video. I don’t want to watch some poor acting, I want to see shooting and or information that is relevant to firearms.
Check out... Tools&Targets ...for great ammo jelly tests
Never cared for Hickock45. Not saying I hate him, I just don't get why he's so popular. I watch videos to learn something. I can watch 45 minutes of a Hickock45 video and all I'll learn is that he can hit the bowling pin and the gong. I can watch 25 minutes of one of Paul's videos, and I'll likely learn something.
I do enjoy this format of short and longer versions. I've watched the short version first and got a lot from it, but I am still glad that I am watching the longer version. And it is worth sitting through the long version just to hear Mr. Harrell's thought process. We don't have to do what he does, but he wants us to put some thought into what we are doing, and then DO IT!
Thats the one! Thoughts are irrellevant without actions to follow them. If all you do today is put a note on a box of ammunition in your stash that says "KEEP FOR CRISIS" then you have done something. The next day do something else - learn a skill perhaps. Keep on learning and doing, its addictive!
After watching both, I decided I think I'm GUNNA do something like this!!!
On the Obey your Local Laws point, I think some people also forget that it's going to be kind of hard to train and gain competence with your weapon if it's illegal.
Thanks Mark Hamel Joker for the insight
Even if weapons ownership is legal, some places don't have any public ranges nearby or their ranges are very limited. My nearest range only allows .22 rifles and handguns. I have to take an hour and a half drive to get to my nearest public rifle and shotgun range, and even that is very limited. The shotgun range is about 15 feet maximum and you can only shoot from a seated, table-mounted position on the rifle range.

I live in NYC here in the US. There are very strict gun laws here. The ultimate insult is that in a SHTF scenario only the criminals and gang members will have guns. Think about it!!
@@timothythompson4036 to be completely fair, i dont necessarily think that laws should be constructed around availability if the world ends, that would bring about some pretty disastrous laws for day to day life.

Hey Australia, Canada here...hold my beer. I tell you man, I need something a little better than a bow....cheers🍻
Well, you end having to make some choices that would be poor in this vid. I live in state with an “assault weapons ban”. No magazines larger than 10 rounds: things like AR, banned by name: the pistol caliber carbine, banned by “feature”. In states with assault weapon bans, the politicians we have would make black powder revolvers and lever action carbines, and bolt action hunting rifles and break action shotguns your only options.
In awb states you have poor choices in the legal options, or make a poor choice by knowingly break the laws.
In my awb state, the only AR/AK option are the mini 14, mini 30 or an sks. All of which have their peculiarities. And the next round of “gun control” bills will likely seek to make them illegal. The last group of laws passed almost made semi auto rimfire rifles illegal.
2 hours long like a movie. BUT, way better and more informative than ANY movie.

Your favorite 5.56 or 7.62 and 9x19 or .45 APC. It doesn't matter, whatever you are most comfortable and confident using.. More emphasis should be on actually staying fit; mentally and physically.

My 2 cents is stock up on shorty shells, they increase capacity and are just as effective for short to medium range defense and hunting, also making cut shells out of cheap birdshot shells is a great skill to have... they work almost as well as expensive slugs.
You know what Paul says about “just as effective” and “almost as well”. 🤨
As long as I don't have to carry it around. The ammo weight is no bueno.
@@onpsxmember It’s not even the weight for me so much as the bulk. Shotshells take up so much damn space I can never seem to carry enough of them when I go hiking with the shotgun. The weight definitely isn’t fun either.
Before stocking up, make sure the shorty shells cycle in your shotgun. They won’t cycle in many many shotguns. My Stevens 320 shoots them fine with an occasional sideways empty shell that I can manually dump out by turning the ejection port downward.

I gotta be honest, I like longer videos. I enjoy not having to play the ADHD game of have to find a new video every few minutes. Sometimes it’s nice to just sit, relax and listen. Idc if it’s a podcast, someone’s opinion, news, whatever. I’m at the point where I’ll rarely watch a video shorter than 20-25 minutes, unless it’s an update of big things going on around this big ol’ ball of chaos and wonder we inhabit. Also, you can ramble as long as you want. If it’s a topic that I’m interested I’ll listen all day. Through my late teens and all of my twenties, if I saw Nutnfancy uploaded a long form philosophy video or gear review, my day was made. I dont even agree with a lot of the people I listen to, but I like trying to grasp another perspective, even if I find it reprehensible. You can always take something away from it.
Ive watched this 3 times.. i absolutely hate when my phone decides to "play next" a video before anyone comments yes play next is turned off.. but when Paul is automatically played i stay and watch again for the fourth time. I hope you find peace Paul and you are not in any pain
Two hours… Paul, it’s like Christmas in May. Thank you!!! Can’t wait. Already watched the entire short version

Thank you Paul for this video. This is the most non-panicking discussion of the subject of living through a major catastrophe I have seen since reading Mel Tappan's articles and books over 40 years ago.
RIP Paul, Thank you for you contribution to fire-arms education.
We have lot a fountain of knowledge and wisdom.
Paul's long videos are master classes on whatever he is presenting.
I am a bit of a prepper/survivalist. The last few years I have been learning, storing, gathering etc. my wife has been canning, we have a pretty good sized garden for food. We’re still learning a lot and will always look for knowledge. But the one thing I am NOT knowledgeable about are all the hippest online acronyms for things. When I saw the title “Top 5 guns for TEOTWAWKI”, I thought Paul was talking about some kind of Native American Indian event he was going to attend. 😂
Ha ha! I can see that ! 😀 Many times I have to Duck duck go them, myself.
Can anyone be a "bit" of a prepper?
All 3 acronyms date back to the 20th Century.
Thank you, Paul, for always shooting us straight!
One thing to note about the current state of A1 style ARs is that more and more companies are producing retro parts including some rifles with 1/7 twist barrels
And C7 uppers, A1 sights with brass deflector. Kind of important for southpaws.
@KirkFickert Good luck finding a c7 upper right now. I have been trying to find one for a reasonable price and have not found any that doesn't cost around $300-$800. Even $200 is a bit much for a stripped upper for me. Would love to have one.
I really want a C7 upper and an A2 upper. Unfortunately this seems to be the wrong time to find them! I did see that Fulton Armory was listing complete A2 uppers in stock, but I don’t want one quite bad enough to drop a grand.
Working part time at an FFL, much of our “obscure” calibers were bought out in 2020, and here in 2023 we still haven’t found a replacement source for it.
Small specialized store or large retailer with massive purchasing power?
@@mattmarzula
Large FFL with significant purchasing power and access to multiple distributors and several direct contracts with manufacturers.
Pro of obscure calibers= They are usually the LAST TO GO.
Cons of obscure calibers= Once they are GONE. They ARE GONE. They will be the hardest to find and take longer to be restocked.
@@SCH292
.32 S&W Long particularly disappeared quickly and I’ve only found a few cases of it the past 3 years.
Even not so obscure calibers like .280 Remington, .35 Remington, and .444 Marlin were hard to obtain there for a while on top of several others.
@@woodrowcall3158 Yeah. I had a bunch of people bragging during the dark times about having family working at places like FFF, Cab bellas, Done hams, and the like who would separate out ammo for them. They would talk about how they'd get a box every other week paying exorbitant prices like they had the best thing going.
I wasn't able to buy anything firearms related for the vast majority of 2019 and 2020. I wasn't stateside. I had practically shot all of my 9mm training ammo getting ready to leave. I only had maybe 800 rounds I hadn't shot prior to leaving. When I got back, I wanted to buy some more to go shooting with a friend. I went to a small gun store I worked at a few years prior. Small and specialized yet, they could bring in anything from all the same distributors as the people who sell kayaks and tennis rackets. The thing is, they didn't raise the price of any ammunition that they had purchased prior to people going unnecessarily crazy buying ammo. So niche rounds were in stock and priced right. 9mm ball was 80¢ to $1.40 per round. 10mm was the same price when I had left. I bought a Glock 40 MOS blue label and 300 rounds of 180gr ball and 200 of 180gr JHP for less than I'd have bought 1000 rounds of 9mm.
Typed all that to type this. I won't buy retail ammo from large operations. My business goes towards small specialized shops with integrity.
This man is a national treasure! Protect him at all cost!!
It's a shame he's not going to be with us much longer... 😥
24:00 Good point. People should go read up about just how scarce game was during the Great Depression.
VERY GOOD point.
It may take a bit longer now a days to push down the game numbers because there are less hunters. But it will drop to nothing soon. There are ten or so deer that move around my property and my neighbor said “we will have ten before it gets tough.” I laughed and said “ that they move on miles of the area and other people think the deer are theirs.”
Heard the stories of people eating "house rabbits" from my grandfather. They lived in the country on a farm. We can't really understand how bad it can get.
I listen to your videos while i work my overnight security shifts. your videos are very entertaining and informative!
Wow, what a comprehensive discussion of these scenarios. At 73 & having collected many calibers, gauges & bores of firearms & air rifles in my adult life & having been an avid outdoorsman, I am grateful & in awe at how much I have learned by subscribing to your channel. My love of firearms is only one of many hobbies, endeavors & passions that I've tried to fit into my personal life outside of work & family. I realize that I have had the opportunity to dedicate more time to specialize in certain individual skills, but following someone like you makes me realize that I may not have had the attention span to specialize in one particular skill instead of spreading my time over learning to be proficient in; hiking, hunting, fishing, camping, whitewater solo boating, cross-country skiing, bicycling, motorcycling, diving, etc. Your video content is by far the most informative, educational & entertaining of any other in your genre. Keep up the good work & stay safe.
Nutnfancy posts videos 1 hour long and I think God lord dude. PAUL Harrell posts videos 2 hours long and I’m like hell yeah. Because Paul Harrell freakin ROCKS.
It is always nice to see Paul explain simple concepts that are not that simple for many. I find it very entertaining and did not even think to open the short version. When it dropped i waited for long one :)
I can't imagine the planning that this took. Thank you for a tremendous presentation
Oh my giddy Aunt!!! How in the world do you prep for this with so MANY long form discussions?? You are truly the godfather of firearm videos! I watched it all, both versions and noticed that your count went from 38k to 48k in the time the long version ran. Granted, life forced some momentary breaks, but I basically was non-stop. Absolutely awesome. Thank you for your detail, structure and continuity throughout.
Paul goes epic! Thanks for the opinions. Not often you get someone who's willing AND capable of quantifying their reasoning to this degree.
Paul, we are unreasonable, and we demand perfection from imperfect people. Because we ourselves are are imperfect. You have done more to introduce plain, understandable, yet profound information to people.
Thank you.
I didn’t think a 2hr video would hold my attention all the way through, but the information received made it all worthwhile.
1) get your food and water sorted
2) get your shelter and energy sorted
3) get your medical sorted
4) get the skill set, heart set and mindset to survive whats coming
5) an ar15 and 1000 rounds of ammo
Not one thing in 1-4 on this list is ever truly "sorted" long term. It's constant daily effort. Getting a rifle, a few thousand rounds, and some practice in is actually probably the easiest and cheapest option here.
Right now there's some barefoot kid with a homemade sling shot and three squirrels tied up by the tails hanging over his shoulder drinking from a stream who would be laughing at this comment if he had the internet and could read.
I used to carry 1000 556 linked on my chest, another 1000 or more in the ruck. It goes by pretty fast if youre active, especially if like most you dump rounds without really aiming
I would actually order it slightly different, I would order it knowledge -> water -> shelter -> medical, at this point your OK for anything non violent for a couple of weeks, and you haven't spent much money, then security (your AR with 1000 rounds included) -> food. Of course this is very simplistic and generalist, but I have been in a few SHTF at this point where the power has gone out for a couple of weeks, the town water supply got contaminated (only a boil water alert issued, it wasn't totally unusable), the natural gas pipeline went down for the whole state (Longford gas plant explosion in 1998), and 2 car accidents. None of those I needed either a rifle or food. I'm not saying don't get them, just saying square your water and shelter away first. The Covid 19 induced supermarket shelf stripping was the first time I ever dipped into my food and I didn't really "need" to to prevent myself from starving, it was just because they were short some things and I happened to have them saved away (tinned sardines, tinned tuna, rice and butter all got wiped out where I live).
@@legallyfree2955 Water before shelter..? Are you sure you're putting knowledge up front?
Hallo everyone. Im based in Europe, and have experience working with / housing Refugees. Since there have been several instances in the last few years, i Managed too glean two Points to remember in the SHTF refugee scenario. 1) Documents (ids / passports) are the Most valuable commodity. 2) Small pistols are popular. The reason being is that they are conceable. Therefore enemy Troops are unlikely to fire on you, and you can protect yourself and Family from the other Refugees trying to steal your Passport. 3) duct tape. To Tape you valuables directly to your Body. I enjoyed the Video and found it informative.
It isn't easy to legally own firearms in most of europe, atleast the western part of it.
I think the long format videos provide some valuable insight into thought processes and criteria - both of which I think are the biggest takeaway of anything else. After all, if you can apply those same thought processes and similar criteria to other facets on similar subjects on your own then that's a huge benefit.

the largest possible defense in almost any fantasy lawless scenario will ALWAYS be a community. Not some piece of kit. Whoever is the most successful at either joining or creating a larger community that works towards the same goal, and then use those numbers well almost always wins.
I reckon I might rather go it alone than join Jonestown. Too many people forget that the wrong community will get them killed whether they're in it or out of it...
@Einzelfeuer _ wolves hunt in packs. Cops always can call back up, and soldiers almost never do anything alone.
Thousands of years ago when we didn't really have laws, people stuck together.

Would be awesome if this began an entire TEOTWAWKI series; maybe a follow-up with something along the lines of provisions worth carrying.
I mean, a huge chunk of his channel is relevant to the topic of teotwawki
I agree
Okay Paul, I have to say that this is one of, if not the most comprehensive videos on this topic that I've seen. Thank you!
At the beginning of both versions of this video, you mention and put emphasis on the need to have a good three-day pack. Would it be possible for you to outline what you classify as the best kinds of things to keep in said kit? True, many MANY people have done so, and yes I know that each person's pack will be different, but having an outline of what you think are the most important things would go a LONG way to helping others to assemble theirs. Plus, I think I'm in the majority of viewers here when I say that your opinions on this matter are VERY important to us!
Again, THANK you for your tireless efforts in all you do!
I discuss/demonstrate my three day pack in our 2019 Thanksgiving special.
@@PaulHarrell I'll make it a point to go watch that. Again, thank you!

I'm so glad i did because he is second to none with giving you the true facts and the most accurate data you will find on UA-cam while making everything easy to understand especially for a beginner. Thanks for the help Paul.
My SHTF includes a good Bow with plenty of hunting arrows And the skill to use it sometimes you want to be QUIET, works very well when taking Deer, the reusable ammo is a bonus, in addition to my firearms, generators, reserve fuel, stuff to maintain generator/vehicles etc... If you are prepared, you don't worry and don't have to forage
Yeah the bow us something I keep putting off, was gonna get one of those sages but made in China so nah but I need a decent budget bow
Plenty of quality used recurves around from the 60's and 70's. They used modern fiberglass and epoxy even then, and those older bows hold up just fine.

Didn’t have time for the short version. Excellent presentation.
Ended up watching both short and long versions, worth it, great info as usual. Your idea of prepping seems more in line with mine--prep for reality, not fantasy. I think the gun selection really just boils down to: What are YOU comfortable with shooting, and as much firepower / capacity as you can accommodate. Of course the scenario dictates a lot of that as well, so that's why having a well-stocked safe and supply is good so you have a selection to fit whatever you come across. I have multiple holsters for every handgun except the couple I know I'd never carry (ancient RG Rohm .22 revolver, Forehand & Wadsworth .38 S&W wallhanger, etc.). I have at least 5 mags or 5 speedloaders for every compatible gun I can. I have more than a sufficient amount of ammo (largely because I haven't spent nearly enough time at the range during the pandemic).
I have watched this entire video at least twice now .. man youtube is rough without paul harrell
