I put one on a Hobie Lynx. Works, but to get a close fit I needed to use a heat gun to more closely fit the bumper to the hull. Not hard, but don’t be surprised if a little extra work is needed to get a snug fit. I am pretty happy with the outcome.
Thanks Tony, You are very observant. That Savage packaging was the only solid piece of carboard that I could find. I initially used some tissue paper and it was sticking to the surface of the yak LOL
@@fishingmad Great, looking forward to it. Im just on my second set of building these. Tried it out the other day and loved them. m.ua-cam.com/video/yV0wjPMcycw/v-deo.html
Ordered this on ebay, for my PA 14. I cut a long piece of outdoor plastic table, and was going to flame torch it, and let it melt onto my old kayak this summer. But this seem to be a better coverage. I will be using Loctite PL Marine, Fastcure, Adhesive Sealant. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for your comment, Its amazing how many people have come up with their own DIY solution to making the keel more sturdy. Ive heard some amazing stories in the last 24 hours. Good on you for giving it a go. Hopefully products like this will make things a bit easier.
Great video! My keel is pretty scratched up as well. How is the bumper holding up? Do you notice any difference in speed or turning ability with your PA?
Thanks !! So far its holding up really well. Have done a lot of boat ramp launches on concrete surfaces and no problems at all. I've noticed no different in performance or turning capabilities. So far so good and its been several months.
Hey mate, love the channel. Wanted to ask, I'm finally getting a kayak and wanted to know the best place to get started at. Wanted to get my skills up first in freshwater before hitting the ocean. I'm based out west Vic, so hoping you can recommend a good "noob" spot.
Thanks for the positive feedback, its much appreciates. Getting a kayak is awesome. I wrote a few articles on the website about starting out which might be helpful fishingmad.com.au/article/fishing-kayak-buyers-guide-2021 and fishingmad.com.au/article/kayak-fishing-tips-for-beginners i agree starting in lakes in good weather is a great way to build up your skills and confidence. When i started i fished places like Lake Dayelsford, Lake Jubille,, Pykes Creek, Melton reservoir and really helped to build some confidence and get familiar with the ya. Also if you get the chance go out with other experienced kayakers it really does help to learn a few tricks of them. I hope that helps, good luck, keep following the channel as there is heaps of kayak fishing stuff on the way and hope to see ya out there.

I do see this as a great idea, but what happens if you wear through that keel guard? Would it have been better to use VHB tape instead so it’s replaceable down the line?
Its a really good question, thankfully so far its been really durable and removing it hasn't even need to be considered. But you never know at some stage you may have to,
Yeah, been so busy at work. I need to spend some time this evening having a look at the forecast for the next few days. Hanging to get back out. What about yourself ?
Thats awesome !! I just bought a new Shimano Saragosa 8000 and Savage 1DFR 15-24k rod for that exact reason. Im in the process of working out where to go and when
It happened on this video ua-cam.com/video/jHDr7w1wGb4/v-deo.html but once the cameras were off. Sliding the kayak on the trailer packing up, it nicked the trailer edge was the gentlest of hits, but left a big dent. Was off the water for a couple of weeks.
@@fishingmad How thick are the walls of guard you are using? I imagine by the time it wears through the goop will be a bit looser too, if not you can always patch it or fill it.
Hi James, they make them for a whole range of different Kayaks. You can see the link here from the manufacturer which shows the kayaks supported www.berleypro.com/product/bumper-bro-kayak-keel-guard/
LOL, I wish I could afford to have heaps of exciting giveaways on the channel. I pay for all the items i do product reviews on. Lets hope as the channel grows that I can start doing some good giveaways. ( stay tuned )
Hi Ismael it really depends how deep the scratch is. General wear and tear and usage is fine, but the polyurethane material on the hobies is very thin and the keel is most prone to damage so i think this will help that area greatly
What would you recommend instead as the Hobie Trax-2 as this was the most recommended cart from the majority of hobie retailers here. Also there not cheap.
@@fishingmad Considering what it is, how much it'd cost to manufacture, freight from china, the "intellectual property" in it (and that's a hard reach)... $10 tops and that's pretty generous. $40 for it is ridiculous.

I love that the scraper was a savage gear piece of packaging...slave to the brand .
Love it.
Stay safe.

Awesome video Alan 👍🏼. I think I’ll have to invest in a couple of them, they are worth it.
100% for $39 cant go wrong. They are a little fiddley to install but worth the effort.
Yep these are great, I put front and rear on my revolution 13.
100% agreed and that a very good idea about putting one on the back aswell.
@@fishingmad Absolutely and your video just reminded me to order a set for my outback as well. Just did! Keep the videos coming 👍
Awesome and thank you. I have some good stuff already in production. Hoping to spend a bit of time looking at good kayak mods aswell.

I know who im coming to see next time i need lemons 🤣
100% mate, never short of lemons. Always comes in handy
you would not be a true Italian Alan without the lemon tree.
100% i should have said that first in the comments LOL
You could simply just spread the glue inside the bumper rather than on the kayak 🙂👍
I used a pvc pipe and heat gun and got a great result glued it on with sickaflex 😉
Well done, thats a great idea.
@@fishingmad I’ll have to do a video on it soon, just did the kayak wrap today it came out amazing and very easy to do 😉
That would be a great idea. That's super exciting about the wrap. id love to get a custom fishingmad wrap made up. Really was it easy?

Im probably thinking having to go up to barwon heads, near the rip or portland. My boat is to small for those areas, so looking at ideas.
Which video did you damage the keel on ? Link ??

That is the worst kind of kayak cart to use you should never mess with the scupper-holes, just saying !

Hobies are have reinforced scuppers for that reason.
