This was the EXACT video I have been looking for! Thank you for going over the installation slowly and doing a great job with the video camera. That is the steering upgrade I have been wanting! Awesome!
Thanks for a great video. I just got a 2022 Hobie Compass and I'm still doing some modifications. I noticed two stainless bolt heads just forward of the rudder retraction cord on the right foredeck. Are those attached to anything inside the kayak or are they attachment points similar to the one near the mast hole? Thanks.
Hey Ken, yes those two screws actually hold the pulley inside. The pulley is part of the retraction system for the rudder. If you remove the screws to mount anything just make sure you remove one screw at a time. That pulley will slingshot back into the hull if both screws are removed at the same time. Hope this helps!
@@WormTV Thanks for the information! I actually managed to get my cell phone camera into the hull and got a good photo of the pulley. Looks like I can safely remove the front bolt for a few minutes to mount a bracket. I made a leash for the Mirage Drive out of polypropylene line and carabiners (total cost about $5...much better than the expensive Hobie one.) That pulley bolt looks like the perfect spot to mount the bracket. And now that you've used it for a while...how do you like the bow Bumper Bro?
Hey I just bought a used 2010 hobie pa 14 and the steering assembly got removed . I was wondering if I could install a custom steering handle to it. I can’t find the original assembly anywhere online.Would this Berle pro handle work?
I actually got my hands on this product before it came out and there ended up being a molding issue with the Bumper Bro’s only on the Hobie Compass. This issue was corrected before the product hit the market. So now they all fit nice and flush.
@@CeeCast Oh, yeah you have two options. You can either install a 6 inch round hatch to get access to the back or you can use what is called a well nut to install and screw in the rear arms. If you have an Ace Hardware store in your area they have them.
nice video, just got the compass and looking to do this. Which keel guard did you get from berley pro? They have 3 on their site (2 for the PA and 1 for the outback) but none specifically for the compass. Did you use the outback one?

should have gone for the high profile model :D
That didn’t come out till 6 months after this video. There was a fitment issue with models that were 2019 and older.

No but contact Mariner-Sails they should have it. Or go to Mariner-Sails.com
Nice bike bro
Hey brother - just bought a 2019 hobie compass - do you know if this steering handle will fit that model?
Nice vid. I like the h-rails you got on the sides of your seat, they have tracks in them. You happen to know the part number? Thanks you.

I noticed on your video and others that the front point of the guard isn’t flush and sticks out a little. Is that just the way it is?

@@WormTV The reason I ask is because the one I just received from Mariner Sails does not fit my 2021 Compass ua-cam.com/video/0kexmabv9wY/v-deo.html
I’m actually the Tech up there so give us a call and ask for Dave we will get that replaced for you.

Hey man. How did you install the h rails?
Which ones the front or the sides next to the seat?
