James is so quick on his feet comedically, it’s almost like he’s always reading off a script with how fast he can come up with something especially while being put on the spot. These podcasts really show that these guys don’t need a script or cuts or anything to be hilarious, and I’m here for it!
I think a 'compendium' of short anecdotes really suits you guys' style. The banter and commentary were totally appropriate and enjoyable to listen to. Felt like I was just chillin talking shit with my friends.
Love this episode, I think one of my favourites. As an Aussie, it's interesting to hear about that XA Falcon coupe. I remember reading about it in the news as well. Also interesting to hear Joe and Nolan's thoughts on restomodded muscle cars - this reminds me of the movie "Love the Beast". It's a documentary made by Aussie actor Eric Bana, telling the story of his relationship with his first car, a '75 XB Falcon coupe (an updated version of the XA). At one point, he and some mates turned it into a rally car, to compete in the Targa Tasmania. The funny thing was when Bana was explaining this to one of the guest stars in the film - Jeremy Clarkson - about one the stupid rules of the comp - like no restrictions on power, but the rear suspension setup had to be factory spec. Of course, being an old Aussie muscle car from the 70s, it rocked a leaf spring live rear axle setup. Clarkson's response: "So a muscle car with 600hp and leaf springs. Are you mad?" It's been awhile since I watched it, but that's the overall story. On another point, I'd never heard of MacRobertson's chocolate until this story. A quick google search reveals that the brand was bought out by Cadbury in 1969, hence I recognized names like Old Gold and Cherry Ripe, but under the Cadbury name.
I have a barn find car. 1974 Toyota Celica GT with AC, luggage rack, Leather seats, vinyl top, etc, but still needs a lot of work. It was sitting in a barn for 3 and a half decades until somebody decided it was trash and sent it to the junkyard where I saved it from being scrapped for $350.
You should do a podcast on Turismo Carretera, which kind of is the equivalent of NASCAR in Argentina. What's cool about it is that they still use Ford Falcons, IKA Torinos and other classic Argentine cars from the 70s. The category was created in 1937 and is considered the oldest championship still active in motorsport. I'm not even from Argentina and don't know much about it, but I think it's a big, uknown, quirky and important piece of history we all should at least consider at some point.
My barn find story is technically a field car story. I needed a truck for winter, being my blazer was trashed, on Craigslist a guy was selling a 1985 GMC K2500 Suburban, Sierra trim, 350 with a SM465 4-speed, rear barn doors, only 64,xxx miles, 40gal fuel tank also. Wanted $2,000 at first but after waiting and a little haggling I go it for $640, I live in Minnesota so some rust but not bad, everything was dented, was parked in 03, year after I was born, and on the side painted in big letter is “Whale III”, it’s an awesome truck, just started it up yesterday, also brought it to prom and it’s is surprisingly a chick magnet, all the girls that worked with me thought it was the coolest thing ever, which it is to me! I don’t drive it now due to college and needing to save money on gas, but I don’t think I can ever get rid of it. If you’ve read this far thanks! Respond with your story please!
35 minutes in, Billy Madison was filmed in the city I live in, the mansion is called the McLachlan house or Parkwood estate. Build and lived in by the founder of General motors Canada 🇨🇦 👌
I have never listened to a podcast until donut 🍩 done one and now I am watching as many as possible and what to get though all of them eventually. Great show guys keep up the amazing content.
My first car was a Delorean DMC12 that was basically a barn find. It had 4k miles after 20 years and had been abandoned at a friend's house by the owner when he fled the country. I was 15 and scoured every relative for the money needed to buy it. Ultimately I flipped it, but the experience was worth more than the money. "Finds" don't turn up every day...
I actually did find a real barn find that I'm slowly working to restore with my dad. I found a one owner, manual, 1968 Datsun 520 pickup truck that only has 2 dime sized rust spots and runs and drives with only 90,000 miles for $500. It was the guy's grandad's that he bought brand new and just used for hauling brush around his farm until he couldnt drive anymore then he parked it in his barn for 10 years until his grandson learned how to drive manual and gave it little drives on the farm to keep it running and the fluids moving.
@jamespumphrey should make a video of him just bashing into the Beatles, I think him going off on a “Beatles suck” rant is hilarious, and I’m a Beatles fan lol.
Its unfortunate but things are worth whatever people are willing to pay. Very unfortunate that some people are willing to overpay and make everyone else think their trash is priceless.
That theoretical 1994 Buick Roadmaster with wood paneling has one of the best engines ever especially if you wanna beast up a C-10 or Cheyenne... It came stock with the LT1... 5.7 litre V8 with 260hsprs stock but can be easily tuned to deliver 300+ with many websites and videos dedicated to tuning that engine, I'm from Canada we have a lot of LT1 engine swapped vehicles here... probably because of the climate and weight of the old iron block most of the swaps a small trucks... but we do get the odd Camero, and I knew a guy that put an LT1 in a Chivette and put a whale tale spoiler on the back... He previously used that engine in a Syclone but got T-boned and wrecked the backend...
THE Ferrari as a barn find is a cop out in my opinion. Barn finds aren't just about money for real car fans, it's a passion project. If your passion is becoming a multimillionaire you're better off hoping to win the lottery.
Original NSX... its not really valuable because if repair cost and performance compared to modern cars... but to someone that was a kid in the 90s its like getting to restore the poster space ship that lived on your bedroom wall for over a decade
What year is the Imperial? Is there an episode on it? My dream car is a 64 Imperial Crown. If it's a late 50s to early 60s, pretty sure they make all 4 corners disk break conversions thanks to Jay Leno wanting to put them on his 59 convertible.
I dont know if it's a "barn find car" but I did see it in a barn. When I was a kid my dad, my uncle and I would go hunt deer on a large farm in northern Missouri. The old man who owned the farm had a large shop style barn for hay and equipment. He would let us sleep in the insulated room he built in the barn. In this barn, in between two monstrous John Deere tractors, was a Burgundy Metallic 1968 Dodge Superbee with 12 inch Mickey Thompson Sportsmans on the back. It had so much dust on it we could barely tell what color it was but could tell it had barely been driven. Other than years of dust it was near perfect. My dad tried to buy it but the old man wouldnt sell. It belonged to his son. His son died in Vietnam. This car had sat unmoved for 25+ years in this barn.
Could you even imagine how many poor guys that never made it back from Nam had parents that always kept their hot rods and muscle cars? That’s always broke my heart hearing about those, not because of the cars but because the cars were all these parents had to remember their sons in the prime of their lives
Dudes make a podcast about cars and the best part is confronting Nolan's imaginary day driving down the PCH in a Miata with a mummy. Sounds about right.
It’d be dope to find something cool and offbeat like a Cosworth Vega, what would be so cool to me to find and I know it’s an utter pipe dream but to find a Lancia Stratos in a barn to me would be just insane
Man, this video drops and a day later a coworker comes in saying, "have I found the car for you." He proceeded to explain what immaculate condition the car was in, "original paint, no rust" the kicker, he only wanted $1500. Apparently while buying a vintage scooter motor the old lad showed him around the garage and he had to ask what was under the sheet. He explained that decades ago the man had bought this car for he and his son who was battling cancer to work on together. Unfortunately his son took a sudden turn passing away fairly young and it has pretty well sat in the garage since. All of the markings of the classic barn find only to find out the car in question was a 77' Lebaron Coupe. I wanted to match his excitement but damn, I just couldn't. Maybe because I'd never seen the commercial ua-cam.com/video/G1HQLFx-aMM/v-deo.html
If you do another barn find show, we just found 1 of 9 Toyota 2000GT's delivered to Australia from new and 1 of 2 believed to still be in the country. We are restoring it to original condition right now.
My dream barn find is the easiest pick and the very toughest find out there: the missing Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic. Hopefully it wouldn’t need too much work but even if it did, that thing’s probably worth $50 million completely broken and it’s valued well over $100 million if it’s in good shape
The chicken coupe xa gt has a few staged photos for the auction site it was sold on. I lived about 5 mins away from this car. If you search "survivor car Australia" magazine, you can see it in original barn find condition.
I am going to put that Porsche P1 in my living room. I know them Rust Valley guys! One of my winter homes is in Texas. I have clue how many cars I have or how many houses I have either. Hmm
There is an '85 red Turbo Porche sitting 2 houses down from where I sit. It has not moved and has been under car cover in the garage since the lady took it from her husband in a divorce in the late 80's... I keep trying and trying... I'm not giving up.... I've been working on this one for 25 years now, lol
I’ve been able to understand a parent or parents keeping their late child’s car, wether they had died in war as what happened in more than a few occasions with Vietnam soldiers that were KIA or from illness or whatever, but something like this, acquired in a divorce yet refuses to sell it and would rather let it sit....I don’t get it, I’m guessing that car was the husbands pride and joy and the bitter wife even if not bitter at first glance, gets off looking out the window and seeing the thing deteriorate
Casey Putch is right car prices especially exotic cars prices are insanely hyper-inflated. Before you had a Barn find nobody else would know about it. Now a days somebody finds a car in a barn it goes on EBay motors and there are so many people with too much money that will pay what ever it takes just to have a certain car. That is why a $4000 Accord will sale for 21 Grand and somebody just paid tens of thousands for a like 2010 Civic Si. People just have to have certain cars and can out buy other people who would also like that car but have less financial backing. Hell even on Craigs list people think their 20 year old Civic with 150K on the ODDY and missing half the parts are still worth like several thousands. Its for sure a sellers market for Cars right now.
I enjoy Joe being here, he is a great third. But I would like to see Jeremiah back for an episode or 2. And if Jeremiah couldn't maybe Zach Jobe, funny and has a wealth of knowledge.
As much as they're not really on my radar for cars I could ever aspire to own, a facelift Honda NSX Type-R would be my pick for a barn find, just for how unattainable it is.
Gonna build myself a barn and hope for the best. You never know, might get lucky
One time I did that and I came back a few years later and found a 1997 chevy tahoe growing inside.
Old car farming goes brrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Hahahah let me know out it turns out
I did that once. Ended up with a new tenant named Steve.
I'm gonna find it
James is so quick on his feet comedically, it’s almost like he’s always reading off a script with how fast he can come up with something especially while being put on the spot. These podcasts really show that these guys don’t need a script or cuts or anything to be hilarious, and I’m here for it!
yeah James is really great Joe is extremely clever too
More podcasts like this, I really like it when you guys just talking and having fun
I like how the first 11 minutes was all about Disney cartoons and bands 😂this is why I’m subscribed lmao
I legit thought Joe was joking when he said its sponsored by his bookie 🤣
Definitely had that "yeah of course I watch the sports I love the sports team there great" kinda thing going on
I love they referred to phineas and ferb and bowling for soup separately. It’s funny how those 2 things are intertwined and they didn’t even realize
Barn finds are really cool so this is dope
Thank you all so much for the shout-out about my 911!!! BTW I’m @mikes914 on IG. One of the coolest things ever.
20ish minutes to get through the first subject was perfect. Really fun listen guys.
Thw ultimate barn find of my life.... subbing to donut media when they only had 10,000 subs... a truly priceless gem 💎
I think a 'compendium' of short anecdotes really suits you guys' style. The banter and commentary were totally appropriate and enjoyable to listen to. Felt like I was just chillin talking shit with my friends.
Lightning, lightning, LIGHTNING ⚡️⚡️⚡️
listenin while workin on my motorcycle, you guys are amazing!

16 min in "lets get right into it" made me laugh so hard lol
I have a barn find car. 1974 Toyota Celica GT with AC, luggage rack, Leather seats, vinyl top, etc, but still needs a lot of work. It was sitting in a barn for 3 and a half decades until somebody decided it was trash and sent it to the junkyard where I saved it from being scrapped for $350.
Someone start a Kickstarter to produce a buddy comedy starring Nolan and a clubfoot king Tut

I have never listened to a podcast until donut 🍩 done one and now I am watching as many as possible and what to get though all of them eventually. Great show guys keep up the amazing content.

Only barn find i ever got was a 1984 crx that had been sitting for about 20 years in great shape with low miles paid $400 for it lol
That’s a hell of a barn find, though I’m a Honda guy so it probably wouldn’t be near as exciting to some domestic fan
I love this pod cast
Mo poweh baby!

@jamespumphrey should make a video of him just bashing into the Beatles, I think him going off on a “Beatles suck” rant is hilarious, and I’m a Beatles fan lol.
Did not expect to jump in here and hear these guys talking about punk bands but I'm onboard.
Its unfortunate but things are worth whatever people are willing to pay. Very unfortunate that some people are willing to overpay and make everyone else think their trash is priceless.
My dream barn find? A late 60s or early to mid 70s land yacht. Yes, yes, I know that's also my dream daily driver.
My dream barn find would be a 1963 split window c2 corvette, such a beautiful and well built car.

33:31 - the "original Daewoo Lanos concept car" is what is commonly know as a "Bombshell" Vauxhall Astra (Mark II) from the UK.
Greatest intro yet
Nolan becoming pals with King Tut " Hey sweet club foot bro, you could drive Heel Toe like a mother fucker with that hoof!" 🤣
THE POLYPHIA T-SHIRT THO !!!

You guys need to do an up to speed or a past gas podcast on Colin McRae. I need it for a school project.
Just think, in the next 45 years our generation will be finding supras and skylines stashed away in abandoned garages and barns just like this.
What year is the Imperial? Is there an episode on it? My dream car is a 64 Imperial Crown. If it's a late 50s to early 60s, pretty sure they make all 4 corners disk break conversions thanks to Jay Leno wanting to put them on his 59 convertible.

They’re on point though, even though you can find them every great once in awhile, the internet has ruined the bargain aspect of barn finds
I’ve seen that Barn Find Hunter episode, it’s really cool
For Me a Daytona, or Coke body style charger or 71 Cuda

You should do a video on those drum brakes installation
James is right, 275gtb is more impressive barnfind, especially if it happens in South Carolina.
Damn Joe hatin’ on NOFX
Shout out to the the boys in polyphia
As much as they're not really on my radar for cars I could ever aspire to own, a facelift Honda NSX Type-R would be my pick for a barn find, just for how unattainable it is.
