@@NbNgMOD I never understood that dutch = swamp german thing in the first place. If anyone's "swamp german", it's the frisian germans in Ostfriesland. They're literally living in a swampy area....while being german. If I had to go with this tired joke, I'd call the dutch "Sea Germans" instead because without their ingenuity, literally two thirds of their country would be under water.

Some of my favourites out of 'lines I was given to translate between English and Swedish':
    - 'you are drinking the cat's milk' followed immediately by 'is the cat's milk good?'
    - 'the man is not drinking the oil' (repeatedly. a weird amount, actually.)
    - 'my parents do not like that you eat ants'
    - 'what does the fox say'
    - a repeated one about a man with a knife being behind a curtain
    - 'why is your aunt eating turtles?' ('Varför äter din moster sköldpaddor?')

    • @minestar2247

That's because languages are systems, translating is like taking the synonyms of the original sentence and trying to put them back in a correct syntax, and because synonyms always have slight differences in meaning, the sentence drifts away.

A LANGUAGE SOMEONE NON NATIVE CAN'T SPEAK!
Dumbfounded right now! Can't believe they don't know every consonant and inflection.
      We're truly doomed as a species. 😢

@@Srakch i did not mean it as a complete disaster, but as something that i, as a native speaker of that language felt was a little funny moment.

1:04 is Dutch, btw. Always funny to see English people mangle Dutch pronunciation. A bunch of the vowel sounds in Dutch literally don't exist in English, lol.
