Oh, we have super trucker Matthew Kelley here, expert truck driver right out of the womb, never made any gears grind in a semi in his entire life. Let me guess, you probably drive one of those automated pieces of shit that does all the shifting for you.....
Mitch S actually i own an 05 379exhd with a 13 speed, do I miss shifts, of course, do I sit there and grind gears until I find one, only when some 4-wheeler pissed me off and I can't remember what gear I was in lol but seriously, I bump the gears, I don't grind them, grinding gears is how you tear a truck up, transmissions aren't cheap so I'd like to keep mine together as long as possible.
if you float, tap the throttle wile lightly pushing the stick into neutral to drop it into neutral, then just push the stick into the lower gear till you feel the gears touch, rev and she slides right in. Easiest way to downshift if you dont want to look at the RPM's
If he's a new driver I will cut slack but I would not let him drive any rig of mine until he learned how to float and not grind so much hamburger. Truck sounds great though. !
All these damn fools act like they never do... That's a lie... I'm a diesel mechanic... And I see them slowing down to come into the shop or leaving the shop ... With thier own trucks.... Like damn buddy grind it. You can hear it a mile away... But they always get out like they are big Billy badass... And don't know the first thing about thier own truck... So I always ask... How long you been driving? Oh since I was 15 blah blah blah.... I just gve them the nod.... Don't get.me wrong there are damn good drivers but only once they get past the fact that size of their ego compensates for that Vienna they are giving.their wife or lot lizzard.
What are you doing with your left leg pumping it the only time you should use the clutch is to pull off and stop. Listing to your engine she'll let ya know when to feed her another gear.
Ok , I hear this a lot from guys who don't drive trucks but used too ! If you don't use your clutch then fine but I can promise you , you can do somebody else's clutch like that in a road test ! I tell the older guys who say things like that , not to , because it's why they never get another chance ! Show me a clean shifting video with a load on grades without use of clutch other than take off , and I want some stop lights in it too ! I know it can be done but I wanna see it ! Actually , imma go look now ! Lol
I didn't look really long but didn't find what I wanted on UA-cam because I know downshifting with heavy loads is going to be a bitch. You ain't going to downshift at a stop light and your jake ain't gonna help either because your left foot is going to jam on the clutch, once you waste a couple of seconds trying to get a gear without clutch. Then your right foots gonna jam on the brakes with your clutch down too ! I know you guys just eat up brakes in no time ! Learn to do it right and your in control all the time , no matter the situation !
paleface8 Erm, no. Comin' from a young guy, shifting without the clutch has nothing to do with age. Nobody who's actually a proficient driver shifts with the clutch. It's a waste of time, waste of clutch and a sure fire way to guarantee you a spot on some surgeon's operating table with a spent knee early on in your life. Doesn't matter what I'm driving, where I'm driving or what kind of load is on my truck, the clutch is only there to keep me from stalling while I'm stopped. If my wheels are turning, my left foot is on the floor board.
I hear what your saying but I also hear grinding gears in every truck stop from what your saying ! Plus heavy haulers would never down shift without clutch , you could rip teeth off !
+paleface8 your way off. Like n8bolton said a good driver can shift it right and smooth no matter the load. Up shifting or down shifting. Just have to know how to do it. Remember "slow and steady wins the the race" when it comes to shifting.
kenworths have the best interior out of all trucks idk what anyone says a kenworth w900l 600 cat 18 speed 411 rears and the vit interior is the bees knees and it will walk the dog and kick the cat lol
nice I actually drive a 15 speed Kenworth W900L now. Love the truck. The company just switched to Volvo though and got a bunch of those new 12 speed automated trucks which I fear i'll get one. I've hear they are nice trucks but combine a tired driver with quiet and comfort, and there could be problems, plus the fact that you do not need to focus on shifting.
A.) Kid is eager to learn how to drive, that is far from destroying a gear box, I am 100% positive that is not the first time this truck has seen a little bit of hardship. It's got an Eaton Fuller 15 speed, they're built for it. B.) Yes those transmissions are not synchronized like cars i. In order to match gears you have to manually match your engine speed to your road speed by releasing the clutch which creates a direct connection between the flywheel and the transmission input shaft which is connected to the twin countershafts. As the engine RPM increases, the input shaft speed increases, and vise versa. Once the gears on the transmission main shaft, which is connected directly to the wheels via the differential and drive shaft, reach the same speed as the countershafts, it will shift into gear.
this sound is music to my ears
***** comme le web est petit =) Rien de plus beau qu'un magnifique son de kenworth
Words cant explain how much I love this video
"if you cant find 'em, grind 'em" nowhere have more true words been said my friend
You're a moron...
But its true
Matthew Kelley you ain't no driver unless you grind em at some point

Takin off an backin up is what that far left pedal is for
I can listen to that beautiful song all day everyday
if you float, tap the throttle wile lightly pushing the stick into neutral to drop it into neutral, then just push the stick into the lower gear till you feel the gears touch, rev and she slides right in. Easiest way to downshift if you dont want to look at the RPM's
I had a W-900 with. 500 HP CAT 3406, and Fuller 18 speed. Loved that truck. Would roll 75 mph up the hills with 80,000 lb.
i LOVE that kenworth it sounds so good!!!
Chriss you and Justin have a lot of fun together and I enjoy it
That truck sounds sweet
Can't blame him ... New driver .. Just takes sometime to figure it out ..
+Skavenger M. Of coarse he can be blamed.
He's really using that Jake break .
The sound of a Jake Break in the morning 😍😍
JUSTIN!!!! 15 speed! 5 on the bottom and 5 on the top not 4! or to be exact 5 in LL 2 in Low and 5 in high!
my mind must have been on an 8LL
yeah the blue button would be for 8LL 13 speed direct or 15 speed. Grey button 18 speed and red button for 13 speed overdrive or underdrive.
Somebody needs to learn how to shift without the clutch lol
Justin and Chris you can match the gears with the gas and not use the clutch. Give it gas to down shift and let the engine wind down on the up shift.
Clutch or no clutch is personal preference. I prefer no clutch but both are equally effect. This young lad just needs some practice
Sweet video man!! Keep them rolling!! Justin, work on your shifting man! Should make another video when Justin gets better.
That Jake brake sounds amazing
Grinding The Gears quite a bit
good job !! you will be a pro like the big mouths one day !! lol
Charley is thinking: what the hell was I thinking letting these to Yahoo's take my truck?
That sound.......... Wooooooooooo!!!!!!!! Lol.

Love2boat92 I had to towel off after this video
Not bad for never driving the truck before! Ain't nothing like a Detroit!
Detroit has that small thump winding up and thumping with cackle on Jakes. Cummins has a rap to it
Nasty jake brake! Music to my ears
awesome vid love the Jake you can never over use the Jake ! ! !
Except in a residential area. Be A responsible trucker and don’t subject the residents to the load noise. Jake sounds good to us, not them.
That truck sounds so good
I like the sound of that jake brake.

You Guys r simply a "Class Act"!!lol Great Great Videos!!!..Keep Bring'em!!
If he's a new driver I will cut slack but I would not let him drive any rig of mine until he learned how to float and not grind so much hamburger. Truck sounds great though. !
Anyone who says they never grind gears is a liar. Everyone grinds em once in awhile
Ben Krauss
Yes sir exactly
It just happens once on a while
All these damn fools act like they never do... That's a lie... I'm a diesel mechanic... And I see them slowing down to come into the shop or leaving the shop ... With thier own trucks.... He's just trying show off his grinding/forcing them gears skills! You sure can grind em!

If I'm right its a non synchronized transmission so you will grind some
