- Having worked in video production for 15 years, I’ve seen many production companies come and go and I put together a list of the 7 most common reasons behind their failure.
According to Small Business Administration (SBA), around 20% of business startups fail in the first year. And 50% don’t make it to five years and only 1 out of 3 are around in 10 years.
1 - lack of a system to bring in more business (rely on word of mouth)
2 - Not hiring help and trying to do everything yourself to maximize profit
3 - Scaling too quickly (hiring too fast before you actually need the help) (getting a big office, too much gear, etc) STORY
4 - tackling too many projects at the same time, can lead to getting hurt or burned out
5 - trying to hold on to another job or freelance career
6 - not charging enough for your service.
7 - Not delivering exceptional value to get repeat business and long-term clients

Can’t wait for your course my dude. I always am anxious to hear what you have to say.
Hello Saj, thanks for sharing your thoughts. I am running a small production house here in Vienna for 39 years now and still making most of the mistakes on your list…. I think it is never to late to benefit from such clear words. Greetings!

So good Sal! Glad I discovered your content - I think it’s inspired me to create some of the same type of videos for my own channel based on my journey as well 🙌
500 000 reviews of the 300D and only one I channel could find about what really matters. Thank you my friend!

that's crazy you said that at 7:50 because I just quit my part time job to try and actually build a production company for myself
Thank God since I've listened very little kid I'm talking 78 years old I've always had the entrepreneurial Spirit at heart. And you're a hundred percent right about film school not teaching a single thing about business; and I'm even talking about high-level not these private colleges you find on the there ads on the back of a beach at a bus stop. LOL
Great tips: consider adding time stamps to these tips in the topic tip description in your caption. It allows easy follow
This is interesting some video production guys needs to understand this .
That scaling to fast did hit me a little. From a go pro 8 to an Sony a7s3 wasn't that fun 😁, an a7iii should have been enough for freelancing work i am doing...
I just started my production company and your video got recommended to me. All information you gave here was good and I think I will stay with your channel. Except one thing unrelated thing bothered me, why are you based in a dangerous city like Chicago? :) I ask it in a funny way.
haha well I live in the suburbs and Chicago is not as bad as they make it out to be. I have family here, so that's the main reason why I'm here.
@@Filmmakingmentor 🙂yeah I can understand!!
Mate you are the school itself.
How do I get your email address to get information about you .
I am a dop based in Nigeria.
dude, all your videos need to have a higher volume level, can't hear a thing
Really? They are edited at -12 -6 db range in premiere. That’s what I deliver all videos for broadcast TV
@@Filmmakingmentor For real, great great content and audio quality, just needs to be cranked up quite a bit! ;)
Ok thanks. I’ll take a look at it next time I record
Audio's at half volume for me and it sounds perfect. Probably the person's headphones. The only thing I could say is why didn't I subscribe sooner
It's a bit low for me but it's ok.
