Are you already working as a freelancer or is it something you want to do?
I want to get into it. Any recommendations on gear?
3 years doing freelance wedding videographer now
@@AJIWEB00 how do you like it?
@@memengeusoff9394 awesome!
It is a goal for my future right now I’m just doing it on the side along with my full-time job...... Great video as always nice job!
I once heard someone say that if you’re not nervous when giving a proposal, you’re not charging enough. It’s not about overcharging a client, it’s about understanding your value. 👊
If you understand your value, than you'll never be nervous ;). You comment is kind of a false statement
A video on how you prepare and plan the shot list before a filming session would be great (:
agreed
I would also love to see a video about planning a shot list
David Cobos yes !!
INCOMING!
@@PeterLindgren1 Super cool👌👌♥️
I’ve heard a good saying: “No matter if you are just starting out or have been doing freelance for many years, you are charging too little.”
Thanks again for the video Peter!
I don’t know any freelancer that didn’t start their freelance without having a side job as well. Once your freelance money doubles the amount of your parttime job then you can quit safely.
Also pro tip for you youngsters out there. Try to figure out how much money you need on a yearly basis.
For instance I need roughly €50.000,- per year. As a wedding photographer and videographer, I charge €5000,- per wedding. So I only need a minimum of 10 weddings per year.
I end up with yearly 20 to 30 weddings. However, keep in mind that it is not easy. Especially working your way up from scratch as Peter mentioned
Thanks for dropping this comment Gary, great tips!
It sure is hard as hell to make yourself a name/brand and it takes a LOT of work.
Thanks for watching!
Incorporating your Swedish background with these hilarious Swedish accent moments is a great idea and unique way to stand out! Good job!
This is one of the most asked questions I hear when discussing becoming a freelance creative! kudos to you Peter for tackling the topic
THIS WAS A VIDEO I WAS WAITING FOR
As someone who's been looking to upgrade to an A7III so I can more competently do video work, your page has been super enlightening, Peter! Aside from the awesome breakdown and discussion in this video, I really enjoy all of your videos. They're always informative and no nonsense when it comes to providing us with the information we're looking for. And I can see why clients like working with you. If your demeanor on camera is any indication, you're up front and confident to show you know what you're doing but can easily be silly and lighthearted to put your clients at ease. All in all, I'm learning a ton from your page!
Thank you! Very insightful stuff!!
Working on it now, just want to get some extra gear before it's a official business. Thanks for sharing these tips because it's really useful for us noobs 😁
Awesome to hear man, happy to help!
*Wow glad that you answer to my fav question haha so useful bro* 👍
You rentered my head and answered questions I had since a long time , Thank You Sir
Man your videos are low key hilarious!
Thanks for your take on this subject.
Bro this really helps! Thanks alot and it's enjoying to watch with the occasional joke here and there. Great vid

Peter Lindgren you are welcome 🙏
Roger that ! Motivated 🔥 thanks peter
Love your videos and your humbleness
I'm honored 🙌
I totally agree with all the points you made,
I'm a full time student and part time video editor at a private company and I still try to work as a freelancer
not going to lie Peter, ive been watching you since early 30k, and Im amazed by your story. I recently just started full time freelance videography in LA, and hearing your side is really dope. You're right, living as a freelancer, and being able to live by your rules is something that's wild. I recently just started my own little photo/video channel inspired by all your awesome words, and hopefully i'll get to meet you soon!
thanks a lot bro!
Emjay Mendez what’s your IG bro?
Thanks for this video Peter! It was very much needed 🙏😄
You're welcome Katherine!
Pretty much exactly same experiences and similar pricing goes for Germany! Guess pricing is probably the single most important thing for any freelance creator to figure out. Excited to hang out in the meetup! 💪😎
Grym video Peter, detta är verkligen viktigt för att hitta nån slags balans i verksamheten.
Offert = Quote..? Faktura = Invoice, det är vad de engelskspråkiga kunderna har sagt till mig åtminstone! I tink zå
Great Video @Peter Lindgren! I watched one of your other videos about what gear you should use it was excellent too. Those taxes over there are killer though:(.
Now this is what i've been waiting for 💪
Awesome!
Ååååååh så gött!! Söbskrajved direkt!
Congrats on the 140K my man, Love the content!
Thanks dude :D
Great video Peter. I'm coming to the meet up this upcoming Thursday. See you there. Have an amazing weekend, Andreas 🇸🇪
Great content, wish you were close to have you shot video for me doing dents. New goal is to get really good at videography. Thanks for the vids
You're a new discovery for me Peter. Great to find you!!
Awesome, glad you found me :D!
There is something about you Peter, something that makes you likeable. Seems to be your authenticity, it can easily be seen that you're a nice and friendly guy.
Thank you, appreciate comments like this a lot!
Thanks for this nice content Peter! 🇵🇭
Really helpful🔥
Thanks Peter
Thanks for sharing this!
You're welcome!
Love the content, keep it up bro!
Thanks Filip, will do my best!
Money? Who needs money when you can have *eXPoSurE*
Exposure generates money in time! But to be able to get the exposure you usually need to have either time or money to invest!
@@PeterLindgren1 That's true Peter, I've done some free work that has opened up doors to well paying jobs. Gotta trust the process lol.
Love your content, you are funny lol
Great advice for the next gen of creatives!
Good insight
Totally true!
there are things that you say that had not occurred to me
Thanks for your tips 👌👍
Bruh. This is crazy that you just uploaded this. I just made an upwork.com account and was wondering this just last week!
This was a good video on how to get into charging for videos. Here in the states a 60 second video has a rate of around 1000 bucks while 3 minute videos go up to 5000 per video. I don't think many people realize how much work goes into the whole process. So get paid for your time that makes it fair for you and your client.
This is great. Thanks for breaking it down.
You're welcome!
Good to hear from someone who started from scratch and now in the business full time. Congrats Peter. I'm in the exact same situation. Looking to hopefully get a break. Slow and steady wins the race as they say. Peace brutha!
Glad you liked it! Just keep pushing man, if you work hard enough for it you'll be able to get it.
@@PeterLindgren1 there's light at the end of that tunnel. 😊. Hope to cross paths one day brutha!
Something that I have found useful is to use a good rental company for your gear until you save enough to buy your own. I charge the client for rental gear and always pad the rental price to cover the time used to collect and return it. This was you can turn up on the shoot with the latest gear and look the part without all the expense of owning.
Tack för en bra video som vanligt 👍 ska försöka komma på torsdag, ska till Stockholm då och ska försöka få tid till det där
Amazing!
Big up broo ❤💪
Thank you for sharing your experience 🙋🏻♂️
You're welcome!
I believe the word you were looking for was “proposal.” ❤️ I could be wrong tho. Hahah. Either way, thank you for making this video. And thank you for the Swedish vocabulary lessons. ✌️
Oh yeah, that might just be the word 😅.
You're welcome man!
Peter your a life saver, Thanks heaps
Glad you liked the vid 😃
Great video, I’ll try to attend next Thursday.
Thanks, would be awesome!
Hi friend. Thank you for your videos.
🌴☀️🌋☕👍🏻
Thank you! This definitely helps for my first upcoming interview with a client.
No probs, good luck Jorge!
@@PeterLindgren1 Thanks 😁✌️
I love your Swenglish 😎
It would have been great to be in the Stockholm meeting, but I can’t make it this time. Hopefully next time.. Ha det så bra, Peter! Din kanal är super!
Next time!
Tack, kul att du gillar den :D
Sweden peter mckannon. I absolutely love your videos. Keep them coming. Your growth is really surprising. Love it though.
I guess you can call me Peter McSony then :D? Thank you, i'll keep pushing out the videos!
@@PeterLindgren1 Punchlines!!!!!
Not sure if it’s already there, but please make a video on how to manage and keep your white balance consistent throughout your shots as I really struggle to do so with my own videos.
Thanks Peter.
you know.. it's nice to have a client that can understand and agree to the price.. mostly my client are underestimating.. they said that's too much for "this" kinda video and always bargain till we agree on pretty low price..
It totally is, being a freelancer means that sometimes you have to "Decline" jobs if they don't want to pay for the cost. Eventually they'll understand why you're charging the money you charge!
Thanks for the pro tip. I always have hard time how to charge my clients.
You're welcome! As I stated, this is kind of a guideline that works for me 👌
Hi Peter!
Thank you for your video, for good advises!
May I ask off-topic question? You logo is really great and it is interesting - did you design it by yourself or did order it from some other designer?
Thanks again for your amaizing job!
Murat from Moscow
Åh va segt! Är i Sthlm på torsdag men åker hem till bästkusten runt lunch! God damn it! :D
Hi Peter
First of all, thanks for being so transparent about this ”what-to-charge” subject.🙏🏼
Really enjoyed it!
Det ska bli kul att följa dig mer här framöver.
Inser att det också vore gött att vara med på Epidemic sounds meetup den 28/11. Kanske ses vi👊🏼
Hej på’re!😊
Hey! No probs, we all want to make a living from doing this right?
Vore fett, hoppas vi ses!
This is so bizarre watching your numbers grow. Can't imagine how that feels. Enjoy the ride brother!
The tax part is the same in my country , i need to pay 54% tax 🤯🤯🤯 . Great content peter 👊
I also make a living from being a wedding videographer. And its quite hard because of competition. But for now, job that i got is flowing until i have to reject them. What i learn is that networking, quality, idea n creativity what matter in my place.
Great video and interesting because I just came from Brandon Washington's video on charging client's for work -- he switched from hourly to a fixed rate, lol. Also $100-150 is outrageously cheap for your work man! Like robbery cheap!
Thank you!
Hourly rate is much better (in my opinion) if the project takes longer time than expected or if you have to do reshoots etc. As long as you get paid for the time you invest!
Very insightful Peter and always, Thank you! I just received a project as a freelancer for a curtain company, one question though, how do you charge if client request for edits?
Love from India
Good stuff! I'm surprised you charge hourly. Personally I'm working on a day rate so I can adjust without specifically telling my clients. I just estimate the number days or half days it will take me on a project.
What ever you think it is... Double it..🤗
Totally agree!
Gött mos änna!
7:34 damn that was some next level voice shift right there
Hehe ) So early. Now 6 am here )
Hello Peter! Nice channel and god stuff you have in here. Just wonder you say you had a fix price for videos in the start of your career. And client get 2 videos about 90 sec each. Why 2 videos? where they totally different from each other or same but edit differently? From en göteborgare till en annan ;)….och gott nytt år
Great video with insight and useful thoughts. Thanks for sharing Peter 🙌🤘
Ps: Offert = quotation 🙃
Glad you enjoyed it!
Ah, that's the word!
Bro you upload videos more often than I change my underpants.
Man, you really gotta step up your game!
Peter Can you pls tell me which drone is a better one !! Mavic pro or Mavic air??
I like that when speak specifically)))
I’ve been a full time musician for 11 years now just getting into filmmaking and this is exactly how I go about charging clients and negotiating. Contracts are also helpful. Thanks for the content Peter
I’d love to see a video how you color grade your thumbnails.. 🤔
those are nice glasses, what brand are they?
Struggling with this atm. I've been a long time music photographer but I'm just now getting more into video. A few local bands all want to hire me to shoot their music videos. They're also friends so I don't want to say no, plus I need the experience, but none of them have much budget at all.
Music. Don't forget that you are going to have to pay for some background songs to add to the video, so be sure the client is covering you for that, too.
Artlist is where it's at!
How do you export your video? And what video quality do you shoot with? The video i shot in 1080p in canon 80d looks crappy in 240p in youtube while your video even in 240p looks more better then my 480p
How do you create so good thumbnails
6:21 I think it’s called estimate :) 🇸🇪
Great video and great advice! 💪
Quotation was the word!
Thanks man, glad you liked it.
Peter Lindgren Ah, you’re right! :) Good luck on the meetup! 💪
Read a free ebook called "Breaking the Time Barrier", which is about a creative who charges an hourly rate and the conversation he has with his mentor. It'll give you food for thought!
Hi Peter, nice video! It's a really difficult topic. Do you think it is clever to charge hourly? I mean... the better you get, the less you get paid (as you do the job faster). I'm starting as a freelancer right now and I'm thinking about charging on a day or half day fixed rate. What do you think?
What about charging for right of use?
How do you make that matte nearly cartoonish look on your thumbnails? It’s driving me crazy know knowing how you do it!
Peter I'm trying to figure out if I need to change friends for small projects.. with editing..
Hi, im interested in the sony A7r 4 Camera. I wanted to use it with my Laptop, the laptop is an i7 and the ram is 8.00gb is that sufficient to use with the sony camera being that it is 61mpixles?
