I read about a method that I thought was called "trick sticking". 40 years later I found out it was called "tick sticking", which is well documented on the web. A great system for fitting odd-shaped boards into an existing space. I do have to say that Aladino's mock-up of the bulkhead piece was amazing.

#1 One important thing when working in a hazardous environment is to protect oneself. I must say that I'm a little bit impress of how you both do this. You protect all important intakes; mouth, nose, eyes and ears. All to few of other youtubers do this. #2 How do you solve the ventilation of your gaslocker? Propane travels downwards against the keel...?
Hi Rolf! Boatyards are quite toxic so protection is key:) The propane locker will be a fully glassed top loading hatch with a vent at the very bottom that goes out of the boat via the transom:)
I recognize that approach. Carefully pealing back the plywood, pulling each nail to preserve the next layer, then screw it, out comes the sawzall. Been reflecting on my discovery of SMC. I started when they were on the rivers/canals in Europe, pre Covid. Saw the pretty MC1 and then heard Maya’s music. That was enough to bring me back to thoroughly enjoy the European journey and Netherlands. Fast forward to today and I wouldn’t miss an episode. Everything about the channel is top quality. Thanks Maya and Aladino.

The boat is really coming along nicely!! Maya mentioned a future redo on drawers. Something that worked well for me on my past two boats was using strips cut from teflon cutting boards as glide surfaces for drawer runners. Stuff cuts nicely on a table saw and with counter sunk screw heads last forever.
After watching Aladino rebuild the stern of "Magic Carpet I" I shouldn't be amazed by the thought that he puts into the refit/rebuild of "Magic Carpet II", but watching him work to me is simply amazing. I firmly believe that this vessel will be superior to any comparable craft on the water. And to make it even better he is assisted by a Canadian of great beauty.. Looking forward to the rest of the rebuild.

I try to see back into the past and find myself without resources like access to the knowledge base at hand now nor the technology improvements experienced between then and now. I secretly plot out this refit without a hint of love or admiration of the unappealing nature of wood and it's youthful beauty requiring man hours of nurturing. No instead I plot a way as I watch this magnificent hulls' structural elements impose on me. My favorite episode touched on my desire to place much metal into as many places as possible and that mindset began at the deck ever increasingly I now sit with a plasma torch in my left hand watching and occasionally drifting off into multi process welding equipment not to mention sheets of copper stainless and aluminum. I've come a long way since observing Aladino and Maya's affection for details where they seem to appreciate even the quality of the shop vacuum. And I think the best way to summarize my look back is too emphasize always check, test, and verify. My struggle between the limitations of steel vs wood are now merging into even reinstituting plastics wherever and whenever they offer benefits. I shall only be a purist of structural integrity alone and I will love the feel and sound of as many wood elements I can salvage.

So nice to see you focus on the structural and quality build instead of rebuilding the dresser . That can come later . Too many people do not care about the hidden stuff but that is the stuff that actually matters .
There's something oddly satisfying about ripping out material that has been installed incorrectly or that just plain looks bad. That was a lot of work, but it appears you now have a more solid, and much better, base to build up from moving forward. It was nice to see that the inside work resulted in revealing some cork that wasn't rotted, which makes your jobs a little easier. You both do very nice work and it's fun to watch the progress as you rebuild and refit your future home on the water. In a few weeks, we will be departing our home of 21+ years (it's sold) and spending all our time in a 43 foot Fifth Wheel RV. Hopefully I can still get reasonable access to the internet to continue watching your progress.

One thing I've noticed on most channels where they do boat work is they almost never talk about proper drainage for water that gets on deck, in the lockers or other places it's not supposed to be. They also don't mention how they prevent water from getting into those places.
Cockpit and deck drains are pretty standard, so there’s not much to say about them. But we’ll talk about them a bit more when we actually start making them!
Good job! It is called a Tick Stick but I prefer your term of "tickle stick" :) Fred Bingham's Practical Boat Joinery book has a very good explanation of this method. I'm really looking forward to see your solution of keeping items from sliding down the sides of the cockpit locker and ending up in a pile, the dreaded pile.

A Sawsall is a great tool for returning a rotted, poorly built boat to its original status of a bare hull!

I use the tick stick all the time as a builder. Old school but very useful. Just connect all the tick marks and you will never mess up.
