People should not be in prison for doing silly things but if a woman or a man commits a serious crime and needs to be put away to protect the public then they should be in prison.

What happened for the desire for equality? If you only desire equality when it benefits you then what you really want is power not equality. If either parent commits a crime that carries a custodial sentence that are they fit to be parents as that would be an appalling role model for their children.

Such a simple concept, if you'd send a man to jail for the crime, you must also send a woman to jail for it too.

Absolutely ridiculous if women with children break the law they knew they were mothers. Men in prison become seriously ill equally so that’s a none starter

So punish the children for their mother's actions?

@@Smarterthanyew so why not treat fathers the same . Women who have children should never in a million years put themselves in this position they should think of their babies as should the fathers

@@Smarterthanyew should fathers not be sent to prison either? Does having kids automatically exempt you from punishment?

give the women freedom who are facing two yrs for online failings / 'letting off steam about the riots - fines and community work is good enough
men and women should have rights to speak w/o a custodial sentence; It didnt even break Twitter / etc rules

Equality under the law is what was asked for back in the day. Now, everyone's clammering for special treatment. More men are imprisoned than women, more men deal with these issues so why are we talking about the tiny amount of women who get sent to prison?

This should apply to men too. Lighter crimes should not be punished with prison, but in-community community service, allowing them to stay with families.
Most women in jail have been subjected to abuse in their life, and often coercion.

Why should women get lighter sentences than men for the same crime?
