Extra thoughts on the game, I am a fan. I love engine builders and drafting, and i just dig how crunchy this game is based on its play time. A good example of short and simple does not mean shallow and meaningless in a game. One of the best "new to me" games of the year and a real challenger for the spot 7 wonders occupies in my heart and gaming landscape. I lean towards longer and more complex games, so having a shorter game i dig is great.
After introducing this game to my gaming group, they almost exclusively only want to play this game. We're all looking forward to the expansion and will gift them my copy once I get the Heritage edition w/ Corruption & Ascension.
Have you played Fields of Green? I got that as a combination drafting and engine-building game. Enjoyed the couple of plays we've had, but need to get it to the table more.
One of my favourite games of 2019. My partner liked it too, while she dislikes 7 Wonders (although she loves 7W Duel). The cascading production phase is what makes this game interesting.
This seems really appealing. You very accurately pointed to what a like the most about 7 wonders: a stream of meaningful decisions packed in a super short time frame (with great variability too!). This game seems to scratch the same itch. I will definitely grab it when it comes to Brazil.
Bought this game awhile ago. It's magnificent. Love the art work as well. This game gets used in my "light gaming" group as well as my "hardcore gaming" group.
One quick thing, in your production example at 1:48 you would not have been able to pull the science cube off of your empire and allocate it to build the Nuclear Plant. Resources in your stockpile / empire card can only be turned into the red Krystallium cubes, which can be allocated from your Empire to a building in your construction zone at any time.
How would you compare this to Terraforming Mars Ares Expedition? Ares has the phase selection, which I love, but which do you think is more satisfying for engine building, and has more player interaction?
Ares Expedition is just race for the galaxy with enough of a coat of paint that it aint wholesale theft. So i dont compare the two games at all. Its a wonderful world is great. Ares expedition is a souless husk of a game
@@3MBG I hope you'll do the video you said you were considering on this topic. I found ROLL ftG kind of themeless, but a great game, and was interested in RACE ftG but heard from many people that it was very difficult to teach. This seemed to hit the middle spot, more theme, easy to teach. Soulless? Or incremental? Or a retheme? Genuinely think it's worth examination and want to hear your thoughts.
No doubt, 7 wonders is an excellent game. Its a wonderful world is a better engine builder though, to me at least. It's like 50% of the decisions of Terraforming mars crammed into 20% of the playtime.
I totally ignored this game on bga because of the awful theme and name, I thought it was some social deduction game. Turns out it has simple rules and mechanics I enjoy. One of the few instances where the theming affects how I feel about a game.
For the next 2 weeks we have a competition to win a copy of the game with board game atlas, just pop along here to enter t.co/hNwPC7M17p?amp=1

ah yeah, that was because i forgot to put the science cube out initially. This happens when i'm trying to explain too many things at once.
I got to try this for the first time this week. It's quite good! I'm really looking forward to playing it again.
it really is a whole lot of game crammed into its playtime

Awesome! Been looking forward to this review :). Very interested in this game
really liked this game when I played it, a good substitute for 7 wonders style gameplay
Looks very intriguing!
I think it also feels a little like Splendor. Too bad I miss the drawing. Thanks!
It’s a wonderful cube
Great review Jarrod! For theme alone, I much prefer 7 Wonders. Thx!
I feel this one is far more "self contained engine builder" than 7 wonders, which is quite interactive
@@3MBG Yet another reason why 7 Wonders has withstood the test of time.

Really hate the amount of ks exclusives.
Missed those, I purchased a retail version.
Play the song it’s a wonderful world

First time ive heard anyone call the futuristic theme awful.
I guess I'm more upset the title and box art gives away nothing on what the game is about@@3MBG
Ah, yeah, that makes sense
