  • The center of sumo universe is the venerable Kokugikan in Tokyo. There are so many sumo related shops and establishments in the vicinity of the arena. With the New Year’s Tournament coming up in January, Hiro teams up with a former sekiwake for a tour of Ryogoku to show how wonderful and exciting the town is.

Konnichiwa sumo fans and thanks always for watching SUMO PRIME TIME. Glad to know you enjoyed watching Enho's 15 matches from the November contest. The New Year's Tournament is less than a month away and I'm sure everyone is anxiously waiting for the first tourney of 2023. I'm expecting a good turnout in January at the home of sumo Kokugikan in Ryogoku, Tokyo. If you can make it to the New Year's tourney this time, it would be great if you can visit some other places besides the venerable Kokugikan, because there are so many sumo related shops, restaurants and establishments throughout Ryogoku area. For this report, I teamed up with a former sekiwake from Brazil to offer a neat tour of Ryogoku. We hope we're able to renew your interest in Japan's traditional sumo town, Ryogoku! Arigato!!

Hello Hiro! First let me thank you for not only your (and your colleague‘s) amazing day by day commentary on Sumo but also for this fascinating channel.
Something I picked up during the November tournament though: NHK Grand Sumo Highlights showed many more replays of fights than previously. While this might be interesting in some cases, I was kind of sad to see this meant that we we’re not really shown any of the pre-fight preparations of rikishi. Ura‘s meditation, Hoshoryu‘s chest fist bump, etc. Maybe a bit more of that in the future would be nice.
      Cheers and thanks again

Tomozuna looked pretty comfortable in front of and interacting with the camera. Some of the rikishi/former rikishi that Hiro interacts with look like they can't stand the cameras in their faces, but he has a pretty good presence for someone whose whole life was spent focusing on other things.

What a friendly, great ambassador for the sport! I laugh so much every time Mr. Morita tries to fight the rikishi :))) They are superhuman

This was a fun episode to watch. Great to see the Brazilian Brick still active in Sumo as a coach.

Such a fun episode with the genial brazilian giant - Ex-Kaisei and now Tomozuna Oyakata. He has such a latin american sense of humour mixed with japanese courtesy, no wonder he has so many fans. This was a great episode showing around Ryogoku. Its a dream to visit the sumo district of Tokyo and there are so many things I want to buy from the souvenier shops. Thank you Hiro and Sumo Prime Time for this inside view !!

Keisei seems to be a very nice man. I can relate to this. I (a German) have friends in Brazil and spend some time in Japan as well on business trips too. The culmination of both cultures.s

Believe it or not they were talking about Sumo on Joe Rogans podcast. They were watching videos of Hakuho and seemed very clueless. Maybe Sumoprimetime could reach out and educate him.
His podcast is one of the largest in America.
