The Beatles - Let It Be - Album Version - Guitar Solo Cover

- George’s searing solo from the album version of “Let It Be”! I cut together all the guitar bits from the original recording for a condensed version of the song for this cover!
Interestingly, photographic evidence of the January 4, 1970, “Let It Be” overdub session suggests that George played his sanded 1965 Epiphone Casino for the album version’s lead guitar (see photo here www.beatleseboo.... At some point in 1968, he sanded the once-sunburst Epiphone Casino, much like John. George’s Epiphone was rarely seen during the latter portion of The Beatles career (1968-1970), as he favored his Gibson “Lucy” Les Paul and Rosewood Telecaster. However, the photographic evidence combined with the slightly nasal P90 tone of the recorded “Let It Be” guitar suggests that George brought out his Casino for “Let It Be”! For this cover, I used my natural Epiphone Casino with my usual John Lennon black knob replaced to more closely match the aesthetics of George’s Casino (although George’s had a Bigsby - hard to put that in temporarily!)
The Beatles recorded the basic track of “Let It Be” on January 31, 1969. The chosen recording, Take 27, underwent a few overdubs before release. George decided to re-record his guitar, and on April 30, 1969, he recorded a Leslie speaker guitar part, similar to the original take 27 version. This guitar ended up on the single version release of “Let It Be”. When polishing the tapes for the “Let It Be” album in early 1970, George decided to record his lead guitar yet again. This version, recorded on January 4, 1970 featured a stinging solo, a brief guitar riff during a verse, and further lead guitar at the end of the song.
George’s lead guitar work is mostly straightforward in this song and requires little exposition here with regards to interesting nuances. It is important to note the notes that George explicitly plucks versus those that he continues sustained from another note. During the solo at 0:24, he accidentally lets a few open strings ring.
Instruments Used:
George Harrison Guitar: 2001 Epiphone Casino Standard
Amplifier: Fender Custom Vibrolux Reverb (1995)
Pedal: Xotic AC Booster
This is honestly my favorite version of this song's solo.
I always thought the single version was too ethereal, while this one is solid; it hits you.
sorry for ruining your 69 likes :(
sorry for ruining your 79 like :)
sorry fur ruining your 89 likes ?
Pretty ironic, considering that the lead guitar solo on the single mix was apparently done on a solid body guitar. While the lead guitar solo on the album mix was apparently done on a hollow body guitar.
@@c.syde65fun fact : George taped the f holes of his Epiphone Casino while playing this solo to reduce feedback
I am not even kidding, I had a feeling that you would do this soon and it sounds amazing, keep up the good work my guy
Did you have a feeling deep inside?
@@bluerhythmboy Was it a feeling you can't hide?
I think that everybody knows!! Oh yeah...
Yeah, he's got a feeling
@@bluerhythmboy yes it was
I've always thought that that solo was on the rosewood but than I heard this and... That's the same exact sound of the album, really good job, congrats
I always knew this solo wasn't done using a Fender Telecaster. However, I always used to think that it was done on a Gibson Les Paul Standard instead of an Epiphone Casino. Except George Harrison apparently had the F holes taped up to get around the feedback problem that Epiphone Casinos are well known for having.
PERFECT MATT!!!!
That version's my absolute favorite!
I just love George's numerous guitar parts in it! And to realize that most of the ending riffs were all improvised on the spot! Now there's truly a musical genius!
Actually, these are standard rock'n'roll licks, but done incredibly well, and with the amazing taste and feel George is famous for.

AGREED!!!!!!!!
you even noticed the open string ringing before the bend! Amazing attention to detail!
He's back!
Great that you're back posting

What's your favorite scene from the new "The Beatles: Get Back" documentary?
Interestingly, photographic evidence of the January 4, 1970, “Let It Be” overdub session suggests that George played his sanded 1965 Epiphone Casino for the album version’s lead guitar
Favorite scene will be the moment the Rooftop Concert starts, while they begin with the intro Get Back, and Paul says "Yeah!" which signifies that they manage to pull it off and overcome the nervousness!
my favorite moment was when Paul was composing Get Back, it was nice to see how they worked on the song and how Paul was doodling around to get the right melody, definitely my favorite moment!
It was cool to see Paul pick up his Rickenbacker 4001s in Twickenham during the first few days of rehearsal, on behalf of George's request.
You saw the good and not so good times. You saw how they worked.
Can you do a full cover of I've got a feeling? That would be awsome
Mattiboo has returned and returned with an awesome video as always!
Hell yeah, I love seeing mattiboo upload!
The return of the king
This guitar version was the best. Loved it . Really spiced up the song
HE'S BACKKKKKKKK
Iv been waiting so long for this
That tone is perfect!
wow the best cover ever go on like this bro
I always knew this solo wasn't done using a Fender Telecaster. However, I always used to think that it was done on a Gibson Les Paul Standard instead of an Epiphone Casino. Perfection
Always good to see you upload Mattiboo, I really enjoy your bass playing but everything you play is great!
Head and shoulders above the single solo.
I was really taken aback to find that George used the Casino on this - a rather unorthodox choice when he had Lucy and the rosewood Telecaster at his disposal. But there we go! Also, what kind of amp do you think he used? In the picture, you can see a Fender Twin Reverb in his proximity. The problem is a) the cable going into it is facing away from George's guitar and b) it doesn't have a mic placed in front of it. Do you think maybe he used a different amp, like a Deluxe Reverb, or possibly ran it straight into the board?
George used Lucy Les Paul on it
@@sampopkin Read the description!
I would assume George used a Silverface Fender Twin Reverb during this period. The tone is not totally unlike that of an overloaded board input (think a tamer "Revolution" sound), but I have seen no evidence that the Beatles frequently plugged their guitars into an overloaded board during this time. That's not to say it's not possible, but the Twin Reverb (or some other Silverface Fender amp) seems a more likely bet!
@@sampopkin George and John both sanded down there casino in 68 and in the let it be doc you can see him playing it
@@mattiboo they also used fuzz faces around this time
Amazing as always! and interesting it was the casino. Always assumed it was "Lucy" on that one!
Same here. I always knew this solo wasn't done using a Fender Telecaster. However, I always used to think that it was done on a Gibson Les Paul Standard instead of an Epiphone Casino as well. Except George Harrison apparently had the F holes taped up to get around the feedback problem that Epiphone Casinos are well known for having.
I have no words. This is amazing
Unexpected surprise. Nice one man!
Amazing as always
I love your videos, mate. Not just for the mind-blowing artistry in your guitar-playing but also because I love learning stuff from your descriptions and you give SO MUCH information. Legend 😎
I love that fub at 0:24 happens to me a lot of the time playing this
Holy moly!
Beautiful
COOL!!!
there is also a guitar during descending organ before the solo
That is only on the single version of "Let It Be" - stayed tuned!
@@mattiboo yeah?
Great to hear from you again, matti. Hope you are doing well. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Merry Christmas to you too Nick!
good to see you back playing for us, nice man
This is great!
He is alive!
Awesome guitar cover
just perfection.🤩🤩🤩🤩😍😍
What a great player can do with an A minor pentatonic scale.
Terrific work
I love this Channel!!
Wow. That’s good!
Long time no see
I feel like this boy would be an interesting song to see you play
You should do a cover of “Yer Blues”
hell yeah another video
Great job and nice tone!
Hey man will you ever do like a pedal or amp rundown of these covers?
i always thought he used his Rosewood Telecaster for this, and not the Casino which is suprising
Before the studio musicians arrived, George, Paul and Linda McCartney added some nice harmonised backing vocals to the song, thus wiping out John and George's original backing vocals. Paul also replaced John's bass performance from the original recording (the result being that John Lennon does not appear in either the single or album version of the song "Let It Be" at all) and harrison re-recorded the solo and a rhythm guitar with the casino removing the tele
@@DLD2Music huh, makes me wanna hear the other version.
@@DLD2Music this was an interesting read, thanks for the information!
@@DLD2Music I think John’s original bass is buried in the mix buried below Paul’s overdub
@@KairuHakubi you can hear it on the mixes that Gyln John did for the song
This is the version I would play when I did it.
gee, I hope it doesn't sound like feint praise, but man it seemed to me that each one of those bends was just spot, spot on ...
Epic
A very good rendition bro
So George used his sanded Casino to play the Let It Be album solo? Did he also use it to play the Let It Be single solo? Also, this sounds similar to the guitar parts in I Me Mine. Did George use his Casino for that song as well?
That's what the evidence seems to suggest! I would assume that he played his Rosewood Telecaster on the single solo (which was recorded much earlier on April 30, 1969) - the tone is very similar to the original Take 27 recording. Interestingly enough, there is photographic evidence that George played his sanded Casino on "I Me Mine" as well! That song was recorded on January 3, 1970, the day before this "Let It Be" solo was recorded. The tones are indeed very similar!

Cool, keep it up!👍
That's A Good Song.
I’m truly disappointed every time I hear the single version. You nailed it! The song is empty without this…
Eres el mejor, tengo un canal Donde hago covers del mejor grupo de todo el mundo, The Beatles, Gracias por hacer estos magníficos covers, eres mi favorito, un abrazo
Sounds great. Are you using a pedal?
Yes, Xotic AC Booster for a bit of extra gain to the amp. A majority of the rough distortion sound is coming from a virtual tape saturation plugin.
That sounds Identical to the original, or at least to me.
🎸
Who played the Solo Guitar on Soector version? Was it a sessiom guitarist?
George did! He overdubbed the solo twice, and different versions were used for the album and single versions. See the description for more info!
But in Get Back you can see he used Fender Rosewood Tele.
Finally someone who plays that empty string at 0:24
matibbo you back again horray
Now I know where Noel Gallagher got his influence for his solo in Don't Look Back In Anger
Get Back Or for you Blue
Both done already
I see
What kind of strings do use on your casino? I wanna get that bend without snapping my strings lol.
Ernie Ball Regular Slinky 10s!
Oof, i gotta get that booster pedal! Spot on. What did George use on the track? Tonebender or console overdrive?
@mattiboo Great video! Is there any way you could do the guitars, and maybe even a bass video for “Nobody Told Me”? One of my favorite Lennon songs post Beatles
Kinda curious how you would compare the Peerless made Casinos to a vintage one? I’ve heard nothing but positive on the Peerless factory.
AWESOME GUITAR VIDEO.
I've always loved watching your videos, keep it up man. I always thought let it be would be cool but I didn't know how you would do it. But the way you did it was super cool.

I thought it was the rosewood telecaster?
do you have the tabs for all the guitar parts plzzzzz??
And i love her please
Tabs please!!
Even getting the mistake note in there. lol
What songs other than this one do you think George used his sanded Casino on?
It's hard to say, but there is evidence that he used it on "I Me Mine" on January 3, 1970, the day before he recorded this "Let It Be" solo. The tones are pretty similar! www.beatlesebooks.com/files/1619622/uploaded/I%20me%20mine%20session%201.jpg
@@mattiboo Thanks! I think you're right. Good to know that thing got some use before The Beatles ended!

It's my favorite music from the Beatles, you can also do Paperback Writer togheter later, it would be awsome to see you playing this, mattiboo!
Return of the king
Is always great to see you back!
I feel like lived a lie, I always thought that George used his tele, because of the documental and the official video. But the idea that he overdubbed with the Casino fits more.
Amazing playing as always!
Also, are you going to update Get Back? In that song John actually slaps the guitar during the intro, and I would like to hear a comparison between what you did just then and using that technique in a update vid or something.
Sounds absolutely fantastic
It's that an Epiphone Casino Korea???
Yes!
Amazing mattiboo :)
aca se ve claro como se subestima a John como guitarrista, la mayoria cree equivocadamente que es George
What effects or amplifier you used for recording this solo?
