I agree! Bernie is an incredible member of the Senate. He genuinely cares about us normal people who don't have access to vast amounts of money. When there was a debt ceiling bill, Bernie decided to vote no because he felt he couldn't, "in good conscience," approve of it because it hurt the working class.
One of the stipulations in the bill was if you were Under 55, abled bodied, and unemployed, your SNAP benefits would be revoked. Bernie definitely cares about the everyday person !

Bernie is more or less a social democrat. A socialist is more to left (but I guess democratic socialism is far left in the US…while it's more towards the centre in west europe, especially the last 30 years).
The president that served the longest, Franklin d Roosevelt, is also the leading politician that was closest to be a social democrat.

As a female from the UK I am horrified at the lack of bodily autonomy that American women have. How any reasonable American woman can vote for a party that openly oppresses women is mind numbing.
Imagine being a woman in this county with the assault on our rights by other women(maga mainly and Talibanigelists). I'm sick to death of the right wing in this country. I've never voted for a republican and never will and have only lived in democratic states except for summers in my teens when I lived in Texas but was in the capital which is not like the rest of the state. With this draconian abortion laws if I had been in a red state I know I could have died or been arrested in my early twenties after 5 miscarriages and a fetal death at 20 weeks that required a D&C, the medical equivalent of an abortion when my fetus died inutero. It astonishes me that any non-maga woman would vote for the rethuglikkkon party. Please America Vote Blue for Women's Rights!!

And that is the top rate before any dedications. When they do pay taxes, according to the non-profit OxFam, "According to a 2021 White House study, the wealthiest 400 billionaire families in the U.S. paid an average federal individual tax rate of just 8.2 percent. For comparison, the average American taxpayer in the same year paid 13 percent."
2. Many of the billionaires use approaches like “borrow, spend, die” to avoid income taxes completely. This is where they borrow money against appreciating assets (which they never realize, so they are not taxed on them in life), avoid taxes by spending the loan, and leave the debt for heirs to inherit (which then gets stepped-up basis treatment so they can enjoy very favorable treatment).
3. Plenty of billionaires spend years paying no federal taxes at all. In 2007 and 2011, Bezos paid no federal income taxes, even though his wealth soared. Tesla CEO Elon Musk paid no federal income tax in 2018. His wealth growth was substantial, but he leveraged loans against his assets to avoid triggering taxable events. George Soros also managed to pay no federal income tax for three consecutive years.
Bernie looks and sounds sharper than either of the likely 2024 candidates. And he'd be a brilliant President.
