My girlfriend and I just went today. If you go to the address it'll take to to a park. If you walk Northwest about half a mile you'll get to the entrance. It's a little more protected now than in the video, so be ready to do a bit of climbing.
First, This is not an abandoned "highway". This is "Old Mound Rd" a road, One of the original main roads leading you into downtown Columbus. Yes, a great location to walk and get great photos. Second, However, the homeless people were not kicked out due to an owner "owning the land". The city of Columbus owns this street and which is now a dead end, that is why it comes to an end and the homeless that have lived there have been there for 3-5 years and the city knew about it and allowed it. It became unsafe due to a walking path that was visible if you looked over the edge after crossing the actual highway. These homeless people actually made little cottages and homes that ran off of propane, it was very interesting the designs of their homes, but they made it work. Also, when those trees/shrubs were not cut on the road they towered over 15-20 feet and the homeless used that areas to hide and live of course. There was a lot of drugs on that road, a lot of needles from the heroin issue that Columbus had encountered and is still dealing with. It was a very very bad street to go visit if you were not homeless. Here is an article where a body was in fact found and also a picture of the very very heavily covered road with trees and shrubs. www.nbc4i.com/local-news/another-body-found-in-scioto-river/1114372083 There was even homeless shelters going there once per week to ask them if they need a place to stay to get them off the streets, they did not want to go as that was their home. They eventually were given a deadline to get there belongings and move off that street. That area was called a "homeless Camp" for years and the city even named it that. Any of those who did not decide to get there belongings, the city of Columbus advised that they will be taking bulldozer to the area. They eventually packed everything up and moved to another "homeless camp" after the bulldozer did plow through that area and cut all the trees down and swept the streets free from drug needles and garbage everywhere. Hopefully that helps better explain this area of exploration and if your planning on going there, be aware of the park ranger because they will call the cops. -TK
Tommy Kosik I remember hitting up Dead Bridge 10ish years ago before they evicted shanty town. You had to climb the fence and sneak through the camp to access the bridge.

Not an abandoned "highway" actually, it's part of what was Mound St, it used to cross the railroad tracks and wind around to Whittier.
Actually it is abandoned

Tommy, thanks for clarification on all the information. I had heard bits and pieces of the story but never got the complete picture.
