if a candidates winner is an "apprentice" I don't want to know what I am, holding down a solid 400 elo
Well that's the bar magnus has set
with that elo you might as well not exist
Thats a good square number.
400 elo is borderline retarded.
Lol i hear you I'm also a solid 400....can beat a 1000 on a good day.....but we are probably the shoe shine guys in comparison lol...
Exceptional defense by Gukesh
“Okay, it’s not that deep!” I love your style, James. Rapid-fire commentary that almost sounds scripted; riffing off of the on-the-fly computer analysis; combined with this sort of feet-of-clay self-diss!
Haha thanks a lot yeah I rehearse what I wanna say and then when I record there’s some ad lib etc
I like that your analysis isn't too fast. it's a good pace for an amatuer like me lol
Thanks a lot and glad to hear
This is an interesting sideline for the fried liver. I’m gonna have to look into some of these lines and add it to my repertoire
Yeah these pet lines are so powerful when you know them and your opponent doesn’t
@@epicchess2021 I feel like at my level my opponent isnt gonna know that the critical line is to bring the bishop back.
2N's is always interesting as black. I typically give a second pawn and get good attacking chances, but I'll have to look into Carlsen's, I mean James' line!
@@raylopez99 I was just looking at it. It’s really easy for white to mess things up. I’m definitely gonna be taking an in depth look at this one.
i think it's called the Ulvestad variation. I learnt it from an old youtube channel green castle block. too bad he stopped posting
Exceptionally passive play after a fierce opening by the youngster.
The amount of load Gukesh is handling now is commendable ... He is not good in fast chess .. but still he participate even after winning candidate recently and he pushing himself UP ..and surviving in top players of world ...
He is going to be no.1 in few years ..mark my words
The Defence against Magnus is fabulous ..
love your videos man. great pacing, game commentary, content selection
Thanks very much glad you’re enjoying
Best chess channel around!
Thanks a lot! Glad you’re enjoying
By a country mile.
I used to play this line in bullet. Some very beautiful miniatures to be had, but when your opponent knows what they're doing it can be pretty bad.
Great upload!
"Gukesh still learning the trade" :-)
good stuff brah! games like these remind us that magnus is only human.
Also ngl rapid is by far the best chess time control for interesting engaging games.
Yeah nice in the middle time control
I love 15+10 rapid
@8:40. Indeed, black not using own advanced pawn at c4 was underutilisation of available material.
Richard Reti vs Alexander Alekhine (1925)
Thanks a lot! Damn I missed by a year
@@epicchess2021 it is not that important in the Grand scheme of things. It is more important to know the game than know exactly when it was played.
Hannibal Lecter style noises 🤣 almost spat my coffee out there.
😂😂 I thought about including a clip but when I watched the clip I realised how creepy it is and wanted to keep it family friendly
Thank you for this. I know levy is young however 26 minutes for this game recap was overkill
the Ne1 for chess shirts are dope😅😅😅
Magnus may be the best chess player as well as you may be the best chess narrator. Since I found your channel I'm always checking if you have a video about the game that I want to learn more about :)
Oh cool thanks a lot appreciate it
The guy who made that T-shirt didn't know e1 is a dark square?
oh is the picture wrong lol i never looked closely
Not Gukesh A, lol
That's the first time I stopped two obvious moves that Magnus missed.
@6:53 "feeling kinda shtewpid"
Oh indeed you made some videos about Grand :) wondering why UA-cam didnt suggest it to me and suggested some old 2 day movie instead :)
haha
What a shame.
Why didn’t he use traxler countergambit?😢
*goes on google to research it* …. Haha I’ve heard of it but can’t remember what it is
@@epicchess2021 you sac the bishop in exchange for a big attack on open king using knight and queen at cost of your rook😵💫😵💫😵💫
Thanks!
Thanks very much 🙏
I wonder why Gukesh chose to play so passively and make some subpar moves, it must be some Magnus effect.
Magnus makes 1M perfect moves in chess, and I'm happy that I found one he missed.
WOw 3 game in the 1 day❤
Have I missed Something, when the ding dethrone magnus
Magnus did not defend his title. He dethroned himself.
Thats what i thought, but James said Ding dethroned Magnus @@elevationmoto6208
Yeah altho then I clarified what I meant that Magnus only lost his ‘throne’ due to step down, you could say that Ding technically did tho no? It was he who won and therefore meant Magnus had to stop sitting on his imaginary throne lol
I too have played the Ulvestad when younger. The activity is very good. Gukesh D not Gukesh A very funny thanks James.
Haha and yeah great fun this one
At 10:09 you dont lose the rook as white, you get checkmated on C1
Ah whoops thank you
Why can't we see the game from the winner's perspective?
I can for sure sorry just often show from whites
It’s draw how can you tell “ Apprentice “ . Even in daily use also a bad word.
Man you really know what we wanna watch don’t ya?
I’m a fan myself for about 17 years!
Magnus did not checkmate Hikaru with the goal of making guys like Gukesh BELIEVE he can blunder in order to make them accept his tricky sacrifices 😊
EPIC!!! 😊
good channel!!!!
thanks a lot!
Goat hype is real
This is the last chess thing I click on. I beat him. How. 😭
How was it a slam exactly
Oh I meant like the move , exchange sacrifice, not the result!
5:00
Ne1!!
lol
Care to explain the joke? I don't get it 🤔
@@thomasr2472 The start, is a hint ;)
Wich pice is the e1 thing?
@@melk100 Sorry, that doesn't help. I think "N-e-1" sounds like "anyone", that has to be it. Mildly amusing…
@@thomasr2472 The King of knights stands in the example on e1. E1 is a fitting squear for, A royal fork this good. The best bang since the big one
Nice game. Qh5 is such an obvious move. How could he missed it
In the interview, Gukesh said he knew Qh5 is the main move but he wasn’t too familiar with those lines so he didn’t want to risk it
@@PanhaNamikaze I'd say best demonstration of difference between Magnus and everybody else.
Generic commentor so good, he now adopts other generic commentors.
OMG - Neught Eeee won for Chess??? What a biscuit - i wouldnt catch that notation joke :)
no winner, but thanks for uploading anyway
come on guckesh only got lucky to get away his playing was terrible.
You have to appreciate how nice of a game magnus played here, he just missed the knockout blow on an unfortunate waste of a tempo
@@ericastier1646someone begining is someone's end, no one remains champion forever.
@@ericastier1646sure but Magnus had everything up his sleeves even with missing the move, gukesh though found the best moves for a draw in the scramble. That isn't 'lucky'
@@rana_partap123 gukesh recent win in Fide has little to no value. Any of the top 5 could have won on another day. You must be Indian to make such inept statement. Gukesh is nowhere near the level of Chess understanding of Magnus. Gukesh is simply a disciplined calculator that minimizes risks and strives to make no error but he falls apart quickly if not in a classical format chess where time is plentiful. Has Magnus has said, The current Fide format does not determine the best chessplayer. Giving plenty of time only leads to boring chess game were players focuses on no error and seek draws. The only fresh air player in Fide this year was Firouzja whose demolition of Gukesh in the 1st game was as beautiful as it was spectacular. Now that is a dynamic.agressive chess style that deserve a lot more fan.
Epic chess man, i dont know your name but epic video as always, very natural! you look like a steve btw
Haha thanks a lot na it’s James 😁
@@epicchess2021 yeah u look more like a James nice to meet you keep up the good work 👍
@@epicchess2021 James the Steve.
chess sacrifice, eh? and he slammed him? I think this title was from another video.
As in slams him with a sac, I was trying to find a word that shows he slams down a sac but ambiguous as to whether he won, maybe failed tho apologies!
It's only fried liver attack if black takes the d pawn
Ah sorry
@@epicchess2021 Thanks for replying, even if it's sarcasm for my nit pick😀. In fairness, you deliver good content. I like the chess with occasional jokes😀
Gukesh right now is years away from dominating chess like magnus did
Who knows if anyone ever will. A lot of the upcoming players are exceptionally talented no doubt, but are they talented enough to be that far ahead of their compatriots who are also extremely talented? It's an open question when we have so many. Gukesh. Pragg. Vidit. Abdusattorov. Wei Yi.
@@anthonyschlott916 but the thing is like... When Garry and magnus became world champions, they were best in the world... But now if gukesh wins, forget best in world, he's still not better than hikaru Fabi etc
@@Docta123your hikaru n fabi is single handly beaten by vidit n pragg .. gukesh is far more dangerous in classical at 17
@@praful4383 single handedly? These type of games can happen anytime. Even magnus have lost few games.
But I didn't see any single handed domination...Hikaru is the only and only player considered a rival of magnus... If that doesn't tell you how big hikaru is, I don't know what will
Although I'm sure you'll not get it.. Becoz you're clearly biased
Gotham did it better👉👈
I know I taught him everything I know
@@epicchess2021 LOL. I think you have a great style of your own, James. Comparison is pointless here.
PRAG AND ANISH PLAYED A MORE INTRESTING GAME THEN THIS DRAW...DO BETTER NEXT TIME...
Yapping
Hi buddy after a long time
Yeah great to see you back hope you’re well!
