Also, firemouths do pretty well at high 70s like you have them but they appreciate periods of lower 70s. I go through "seasons" in my tank from 77-81 degrees in summer and down to 74-76 in cooler times. My males show really good color when I bring temps down or after water changes.
I just bought 2 firemouths. I noticed one morning the dominant ones eyes looked really black. Then after a few minutes they turned blue again... is this a blood flow thing? Thanks
I have just tried to breed firemouth cichlids. I already had a young adult male and on Saturday I bought an adulescent female for him (there was no older one) and added her to the tank. The male was not like a hermit. There were some other fish in the tank. But the male killed her within a few hours... 😭 No idea what he was thinking.
At the moment I have but only till Friday when tank no.10 is ready for the other fish, as I posted the comment my firemouths have paired up and I don't want to move them out of the 50gal but got a couple of 29gal that I can move the 4 angels to, being 2 of those have paired now so it's a bit fun and games at the moment but nothing to worry about yet there all staying away from each other mostly and are still amicable as cichlids can be lol
hey had a question i had gotten a pair of firemouths not sure if i have a pair but is it normal for "what i think is the male" constantly chasing the female? before they pair? and how long does it take for the fish to pair if they even are male and female? i am worried i possibly have 2 males but the other "female what i think" is constantly running from the "Male what i think" it is a 55 Gallon and they are only 2-2.5in so i know its hard to tell if its male and female im just worried of "what i think is the female cause she is getting a little beat up may take her out" Thank you Just Subscribed loved the Vid!!
also ive only had them for about 2 weeks but no aggression has really gone down did try to rescape a little thinking i didnt have enough coverage but ive got quite a bit of drift wood and plants. again thank you if you respond!!
My firemouth always chased each other and they still do. Mine paired of after like 6-7 months I got them at like and inch in size. U probably won’t be able to trek until u see them pair of or hav babies. Chasing each other is just what they do. The concern will come when u have an actual pair and they become super agressive. Even then fire mouths are mor bark than bite I’ll notice them glaring. I think I answered all your questions haha! AND thanks so much for the sub! I will be making a bunch more firemouth cichlid videos so I hope u continue to enjoy and gain inspiration from them
@@Aquariumswithty Hey thanks so much for the reply! and yes that was an awesome reply. i will just definitely have to be patient and hope i have a pair. they don't really chase each other as more as the male is constantly chasing the female and the female kinda just hides up top never chasing back. have seen attempts at lip locking. but both my fish still are looking healthy other than that! hope your havin a great day. and can't wait for the next video

Will the fries survive in the community tank?
Mine layed eggs in the cave, what should i do now
The parents will defend them yes. If anything the parents might become too aggressive
