That's not new. Led Zeppelin alredy alredy wrote songs about the Lord of the Rings in 1971. Sabaton and Nightwish, for example also wrote some. If you like this kind of things, check out Nightfall in Middle Earth, Blind Guardian's concept album on the Silmarillion.
Just a little story concerning this song for me. Last year, I travelled to New Zealand for the first time ever, fulfilling a life-long dream of mine to visit this amazing country. I did everything Lord of the Rings and Hobbit themed, visiting all the filming locations and more. And this song by you two brilliant men is what set me on my journey there! The whole drive to the airport and then on the plane, this song accompanied me. Most epic drive & flight ever! Thank you both! ❤🤘
Whoa! That's so cool! I lived in New Zealand for a few years. I went to Hobbiton, but unfortunately I wasn't nearly as into it as I am now. I really hope I can go back!
LYRICS: Far over the Misty Mountains cold To dungeons deep and caverns old We must away, ere break of day To seek our pale enchanted gold The dwarves of yore made mighty spells While hammers fell like ringing bells In places deep, where dark things sleep In hollow halls beneath the fells For ancient king and elvish lord There many a gleaming golden hoard They shaped and wrought, and light they caught To hide in gems on hilt of sword With foes ahead, behind us dread Beneath the sky shall be our bed Until at last our toil be passed Our journey done, our errand sped (We must away!) We ride before the break of day! Far over the misty mountains cold To dungeons deep and caverns old We must away ere break of day To find our long-forgotten gold The pines were roaring on the height The winds were moaning in the night The fire was red, it flaming spread The trees like torches blazed with light
I have listened to this about 100 times Dan Vasc was a great addition to this song, he is a very talented singer and artist. I love all his witcher songs. I need to check out more on this channel. So good.
He is the one that solved this cover for me. Remember he contacted me before I started to record and when I was struggling to get this cover where it should be, I contacted him. It worked out perfectly!
Ein Meisterwerk! Ich liebe es! Dieser Song als Metal-Interpretation ist eine Wahnsinnsentdeckung! Absolut Gold wert! Wer die Idee dazu hatte ist ein musikalisches Genie!
As a lifelong fan of both metal AND Tolkien, I gotta say, this is one of the greatest things I've ever heard. And I'm so sorry it took me so damn long to comment lol.
You have translated this song, and others, so beautifully. You take such a unique spin on songs, whilst staying true and respectful to the originals. Kinda makes your own kind of thing. And that's a big deal, because so many people simply can't accomplish that. And Dan, that was epic! You've got a sub from me, and I'll be listening to more of your things. Can't wait to see what else you two have got!
I am a musician. 40yo. Pianist. Singer. Listening to this makes me realise that real music (classical) is actually being saved by Metal. Real signing, solfege, musical knowledge. In our modern day i see classical music art/knowledge being eroded. Only video games/movie mysic and Metal are actually saving it.
This should have been the version used in the Movie!!!!!!!!! Awesome cover Guys! It fits perfectly because Dwarves are from Nordic Legend. The original song was composed as a Nordic folk song. So to turn it into a Nordic Folk Metal Cover seemed natural and it came out Awesome!!!!!
I've listened to this so many times and it just dawned on me it's like hearing a dwarf and elf have a metal battle. You both are so special and I'm grateful for both of your music
The greatest disappointment of The Hobbit movies was their failure to inspire with Far over the Misty Mountains. You have righted this failure, and I thank you
Anybody else get goosebumps? Both the original and this version of misty mountains is Epic. I imagine the original, being more spooky and mournful, as like the times when they are reflecting and feeling that deeply rooted homesickness. This version, being more fast paced, as the motivation theme song when they are fighting and racing toward their home.
By far my favourite version of this song. I think i would like it even without vocals, because it‘s such a beautiful production. The guitars are divine, especially from 2:00 ❤❤❤
I think this is the best thing ive ever heard on youtube. My favorite movies( LOTR and The Hobbit) with this quality of metal forged to 1 masterpiece. Well done Skar and Dan!
So many versions of this song it's dizzying. The one from the book, the shortened one from the movie, the extended cover by Clemavi De Profundis, this cover. I can never tell which verses will be in the song! AGH!
Listened to The Pokemon Theme before this. Dude I'd seriously sell my soul for you and Dan Vasc to do a full album together. I think you guys sound F**king Awesome together. I found your channel by chance a while back and am so glad I did. Every song Kicks ass. \m/
First time ever seeing you Soar. I have never been a Metal Appreciated before this past April when Dan released Amazing Grace. It opened me up to the Metal World. I loved this cover - so much musical skill among you MetalHeads. Thank you for this video. ☺

Check out Wind Rose. It's basically dwarf metal :)
There was another band during the 80's and 90's called Cirith Ungol that did some Middle Earth inspired metal, too.
Just discovered this yesterday and I can’t stop playing it. This is beyond epic
