    Guess what! I finally got my dad to write down his childhood stories and we've turned it into a book! It's available in paperback or as an ebook for Kindle or Kobo: www.mustdocanada.com/deer-harbour-book

    As someone who was also born in 1947, I can appreciate your Dad’s experience climbing hills. My husband and I travelled to Newfoundland in 2017 for our cross Canada tour from B.C. and by far the Maritimes were the best experience of our trip, especially Newfoundland. We are planning another epic visit once the borders open up. Thank you for this video. Since our daughter-in-law is Mexican, this video spoke to me from many places. Cheers.

    Hi Guys, we saw “Come From Away” last year in Melbourne, Australia. Gave us an extra insight into Newfoundland and its people. Absolutely loved the show! Of course the comments were along the lines of “how could they make a musical out of that”, of course they did and did it brilliantly. Gave us inspiration to visit the east coast following our west coast tour in 2018.

    Just discovered you guys today, when I started putting together an eastern Canada road trip, crossing the border in from Detroit, and heading on to Newfoundland. I have gained a lot of useful information from several of your videos, and things that I will incorporate into my trip. However, I would have never commented had it not have been for this video featuring your dad. I learned, I was entertained, and like some previous commenters, I was emotionally moved by seeing your dad experience what used to be his childhood home. Absolutely lovely! And since I am here, you do a very good job of combing enough dialogue, action, and stunning scenery in your videos. Good job, both of you.

    This video is beautiful!!! My mother-in-law also grew up in Deer Harbour and is now relocated to Petley. She has very fond memories of living there. I have yet to visit but hoping maybe this summer to go with my husband and he’s mom. The whole island is beautiful ❤️

    You two are the absolute cutest, and your love for each other and Canada is so apparent. Breath of fresh air at a rough time here in the US.
    Seeing your folks showed a little of why you turned out so good. :) And seeing how much they love their dear daughter-in-law was adorable! Thanks for letting us in on that little slice of your lives.

    Funny how it was really quite emotional to see your Dad show you two around and I don't know any of you. The memories that it must have invoked for him! Very neat experience for everyone involved. Newfoundland and it's people are such a special place that I can't wait to get back to. I really enjoyed the down to earthness of this video. Great stuff.

      @@MustDoCanada It has been a minute....last time we were on the island was 2008 with our young children in an rv. Kids still refer to it as the best trip they have ever been on! They are all fairly well traveled. Now that we are retired, we live full time in a 5th wheel and are planning a return trip for an extended time once covid restrictions allow. Really enjoying your channel while we are stuck in one place.

    My grandparents lived like that as well as a few other people I know. Heck, I lived out of my truck when I was young so that I could save money instead of paying rent. I also lived aboard a boat which was much cheaper than a guest cottage.

    Seeing houses vanish with time really makes me sad, especially since I come from an over populated city, Mumbai. I wish with magic, things just balanced out (more than just population).. it’s surprising to know a country as advance as Canada does still have places like this, it’s got a romantic charm. Loved the video!

      Oh wow, yes I'd imagine most are gone in India. We were there in 2015. A lot of people! haha But yes, especially in Newfoundland, there are lots of these little towns, some even only accessible by boat. But they are dissapearing. The young people move of ocurse and then there's only a few old ones left

Almost all the hare Bay population came from the resettlement of different islands in that area.... and when I'm home I am in the boat, and visit all of the islands. • @MustDoCanada
      @MustDoCanada  4 роки тому +1

      Awesome. Well, we are not experts on jobs and immigration, but in general, Newfoundland is not a place most people go to get jobs. That doesn't mean they are not available and perhaps, based on your study, they are, but most people leave Newfoundland to find work. right now, it's tough to say, but typically Ontario, Alberta, and BC make up the most jobs, but some people ar also moving to Halifax now. The east is a cheaper place to live so that may also help

      a nosotros también nos preocupa lo mismo el desempleo de newfoundland es del 16% e inmigrar por estudios y estancarnos allí es preocupante, desafortunadamente ese detalle es bien complicado, no solo la falta de empleo (la cerveza artesanal, el turismo, y la pesca) si no que los empleos no den lo suficiente para vivir con familia y cubrir las deudas que quedan en el país de origen, el gobierno provincial hace su mejor esfuerzo pero si uno revisa la historia de ese lugar a pesar que sea muy emblemático y hermoso siempre la gente se termina saliendo de allí. si tienes mas información es bienvenida, ya que mis fuentes han sido al momento el internet.
