Mississippi girl here! Cornbread & Red beans and rice with smoked pigtails and hamhock! We use the majority if the same seasonings too! I will add oxtails next time. Oxtails are so expensive in the states now. My grandmother said they use to be cheap.. ❤❤❤Thank you for the beautiful meal!😊
Your grandmother is right. The oxtails were so cheap here in the UK, too. It's the famous television chefs you have to thank for that through their advertising of oxtail and saying how cheap it was. Then people learned to cook it, and because of the demand, it caused the price hike. My family were farmers and butchers. So I can remember how cheap it was as a small child (61 now). Back then, they ate the whole beast, and nothing went to waste. Watch……..Pig Tail and Chicken Foot will be the next thing in demand.
I really enjoy watching Deddy’s Kitchen. My father has been deceased for approx 15 years. Sasha, watching you and your dad warms my heart. My dad LOVED stew peas with salted pig tail!
I am a new subscriber my name is Carl living in California San Diego and I am enjoying your channel. Keep up the good work I like the fact that you acknowledge the father of above that will always drama in.
Love my Jamaican people!! i love the food so much I learned how to cook Jamaican dishes. My exhusband was Jamaican so he and his mother taught me how to cook.
I’m Belizean(from Belize) we do this, a bit different, just beans n salted pigtail, seasoned the same coconut milk and all. At times add dumplings but about 1/4 size of the spinners, eat with white rice cooked in coconut milk, we call this stew beans and white rice! Our dishes are similar of course we do rice n beans which u call rice n peas 😃👍🏽🙏🏽❤
Jamaicans also make it this way without the oxtail. Although sometimes we add pigtail, salted beef (salt beef), and oxtail. We Jamaican can be extra in a good way. 😂❤🇯🇲🇨🇦
Well, for us Haitians 🇭🇹 we call it SÒS PWA . Some people will add spinners as well (we call it 'boi' ...pronounce it like BOY) and we eat it over white rice or corn meal ('mayi moulin')

Oh wow I had stew pea for the first time when I went to Jamaica in May with my Deddy but it did not contain meat. I will have to follow this recipe exactly to cook like a jamaican.😊
Definitely the equivalent of Louisiana red beans and rice with sausage and smoked ham hocks. We might have stewed pig tails cooked separately but this in ingenious to have them cooked in the beans imparting all that goodness on the beans! 🤯❤ I want to know though, what is more loved in ur house, red pea soup or stew peas? They seem very similar and I want to try my hand at one soon.
I really love this cook show. I have tried several of your recipes, such as roast lamb! Your Sorrel drink Awsome!! I'm going to make the Stew Peas for Thanksgiving and New Years !!! I love this show. Where can I get the smoked ham hock that size? I live in Maryland, but never saw smoked hock packaged like yours? Thank you.

I’m here in America and I am a fan of Deddy’s kitchen for a long time really enjoy learning to cook Jamaican food being an American I enjoy Jamaican food, this stewed peas reminds me of black American dish pinto beans with smoked pigtails, neck bones and ham hocks.
I can't understand those who say that your commentary is too much. Personally, i just love the relationship that you have with your father. The banter between you is everything needed to make your tutorial enjoyable and complete.
Hi Daddy's Kitchen & Sasha Happy 😊 Sunday... This stew & peas 2.0 reminds me of Jambalaya, Gumbo , red beans , rice .. I appreciate you Daddy's kitchen for sharing all your recipes. I’m a Georgia Peach, and I love your videos! Reminds me of my grandmother’s cooking! She was the best!!! Now, to be clear, black Americans traditionally added smoke meats like ham hocks, smoked neck bones, fat back , streak of lean to their vegetables like collards, turnips, and mustard greens to add seasoning to the pot. Because some people don’t eat pork, smoke turkey has been introduced! It’s all good!!!

My people are from West Virginia and this dish is very reminiscent of brown bean and ham hocks.

Looks like red beans and ham hocks. Just get that cornbread going!!❤❤❤❤
Ouuuuuu cornbread would set this OFF!
The measuring s are always indicated by "level spoon, teaspoon, cup etc". A " heaping spoon, means more, of course.
Sasha interested to know, which dish you have now learned to cook while filming and have cooked it😊
Many family! Too many to count! Hahah 😂❤❤❤ soon I will prove it to you all.
Hello deddy’s family ( my now cooking family) for a few(3) years now. I’m a better cook w/these Jamaican recipes. I like seasoned foods& these recipes are right down my alley. Continued blessings to deddy, mommy, Sasha,& entire family.
From the thumbprint, w/o reading the title, this dish reminded me of pinto beans. I use the same meats that also include pork neckbones. but w/o the oxtails. I'm from coastal Georgia.
Oh wowww! We gotta get into some of that!
Spinners close the deal. Enjoy u n ur dad yall sounds like my uncle n my cousin
Some people call the gravy. Pot liquor. That would be delicious over rice or some cornbread.
Ouuuuu I’ve never heard it that! That’s what I’m calling it from now on! 😂 Pot Liquor!! And yessss to cornbread on the side!
You can also cook the rice in pot licker
