I am excited to extend my traditional documentary analysis to the fantastic lore of Game of Thrones! Season 7 is around the corner and this 3 part series on dragons should be a perfect appetizer for that main course. I want to thank Officially Devin for offering his support as a narrator for this video! Be sure to give him your support: ua-cam.com/users/OfficiallyDevin
Invicta why did you change your name
Matt Barber watch his previous quarterly review. He talks about it there
THFE was an old, hold over name that was no longer relevant. I decided to do a re brand which will correspond to a bigger emphasis on documentaries. I explain a bit more in my State of the Channel Address
you gave me a creep there
Loved every second of it, can't wait for the second
Ahhh the British. Born to be narrators. I often wish I could hire a full time British narrator as I do my daily things.
hahaha i cannot love this comment more xdxd
It's english so it's expected they'd do a great job narrating it
He has a channel named officiallydevin
Dreamfyre is one of the dragons that felt the rider's death. Her rider was Helaena Targaryen, which committed suicide. The moment Helaena died, Dreamfyre broke her chain and roared so loud that it shook the whole Dragonpit.
Also, the bond between rider and dragon is most likely telepathic. When Drogon was hit by spears in Daznak's Pit, he and Daenerys were said to have "screamed as one".
Maesters have a great aversion to the magic inherent in a dragons nature...hence the false assumption that the flame they breathe must be the result of a chemical action. The same mistake has been made while trying to rationalize the uneven seasons without the use of a magical source.
@@lionofthemorning7997
So the Dragons are masters of Fire Magic? Since it's not a chemical reaction in their biology?
@@thalmoragent9344 or just Magic in general. Pryat Pree captured Dany and her Dragons specifically because they radiated magic.
This is freaking awesome
Your channel is the shit too!!
Omg Lady Gray! 🥰🥰
I swear if they make a spin off they should do it in before the doom Valyria or the Dance of the Dragons
within the first 19 comments we already have people say "Ohhh but is that *really* a dragon?" dammit people, If the creator says so then it bloody well is! Well at least Oakley's comment sections are always civil. Good stuff Oakley, and Devin too.
Within all the lore I was reading they are regarded as dragons. Basically we have to work within the framework of the specific fantasy setting
Invicta yes, like if the creator says apes and bugs are humans, than they are humans.

Saying a dragon must have 6 limbs to be a dragon is like saying a dinosaur needs to be quadrupedal to be a dinosaur
If this aired alongside BBC's Planet Earth as a Kid I would have thought they were both completely true and accurate. In other words, Childhood dream came true! Thanks Invicta!
Good to see my music is going towards telling details of epic creatures. I think it fits perfectly! haha
Loving the new channel design!
Pixelated Apollo thanks man! Im making a push for more historical content. Heard you may be pursuing a project with Arch. Let me know if you need help
Just finished that project, but thanks man :D
Pixelated Apollo looking forward to it! Any way you could give a shout out to this dragon lore series in your game of thrones gameplay? it would be much appreciated and I could do the same when you roll out with yours
Yeah absolutely man :D
Pixelated Apollo Really appreciate it. In the future I hope there may be more opportunities for some direct collaboration between us. Is Skype the best way to get in touch?

I LOVE the coloration segment! Black and Orange are the colors I would want for my dragon
Amazing use of footage and dragon art and thank you for condensing so many facts from various ASOIAF sources. Please make more Thrones videos! subscribed :)
This is fantastic!
Please go through and depict & analyze the battles in the books & even postulate what the Long Night & other battles may have been like in the age of Myth.
wait, dragonfire can melt steel beams? The targaryens did 9/11!
I came here for this comment...
They were all traitors!!!
Well, some of them go mad
Where did you guys get all those never before seen footages/ CGI?? This documentary is awesome.
such a great and informative video. keep up the good works Oakley and Invicta team!
Gotta say, I love this little series
Another great naration by Devon .. and great video of course
Really well done.
top quality work as usual and a fantastic subject, i really enjoyed that... thank you!
Good job Oakley/ Devin for this. I've just bought the entire season so far on blu ray and am rewatching the entire thing. From a huge game of thrones fan. Keep up the good work.
I learned a TON in making this series. The 2nd episode goes into the history of dragon warfare which will be way more interesting to the hardcore fans
Personally I love your entire new revamp and I love this series. I'm doing a revamp of my own. And Im proud of Devin. #TWNTEAM
Also just saw on Facebook that they unearthed an actual dragon skeleton in Northern Ireland. Could be fake. Could be worth looking into.
I love you invicta! This is awesome!
This is so good.
Awesome video!!!
This is awesome duuuuude
This is really good it's just a shame that it's about the HBO dragons not the actual book dragons which are much cooler and more interesting; they switch sexes randomly, have flexible black bones and each dragon has a unique flame colour from bright gold to black and red.
Love it. More. Do Lord of the Ring Creatures .PLS
Thanks for sharing..
Amazing video, damn
This was awesomeeeeee
Balerion was actually the biggest dragon to ever live
Noah Gillispie No he wasn’t. He was the biggest ever recorded. We don’t know much about the valyrian dragons, but it wouldn’t be foolish to presume that those dragons were bigger than balerion.
False. He wasnt even the biggest on Westeros. The Cannibal and later Vhagar can match him, possibly exceed him fornthe cannibal who seems to be older and outlived him anyway and never lived in captivity.
Amazing
Great more like this!
YEEEEEEEEYYYSSSSS! NICE CONTEEEENT!
Funny to hear Devin on an Invicta video, with him now being the narrator for K&G
This is amazing
Glad you enjoyed! Part 2 and 3 focus more on the warfare part : )
nice!
nice video...
2:25 RGB dragon superb!
This is how you do it like a bloody pro
They also use their wings as front legs, so technically they're wyvern. *nerd mode off*
Technically they are dragons in this setting. Be a real nerd
Lol a real nerd would know that wyverns are a type of dragon
Well in this world their ancestors were wyverns whom were imbued with magic so.
Isn't it risky to put an ad on a video that uses so much copyrighted footage and material?
I Knew this series would be good
This discussion of Dragons vs. Wyvern is so annoying... I can only imagine two peasants on a village under attack arguing about it while burning to their deaths.
“Oi! Hold off for a bit! So what I was sayin is that dragons have six limbs, and wyverns have four”
“See now that’s where yer wrong. Dragons I’ve seen got these big pretty wings and huge back feet. I ain’t seen no front legs, less they small as peapods”
“May be the case. Only wyverns have four limb-“
(Dracarys)

can you do a three vs three multiplayerbattle in Rome Total war 2 with you bringing a nomad faction
This a kings and generals narrator!!
Good video but just curious, where did you get this info? Did you piece it together from the A Song of Ice and Fire/Dunk & Egg books, or a world of ice and fire?
Mostly from "The World of Ice and Fire" book with various articles from the wiki pages
Epic as fuck, nice video!
total war game of thrones
People come on! ValirYans, not Valerians...Although, the video is very nice!
Why does this feel like a history channel documentary?
I guess we're never getting the next part of the Roman Military History
Their teeth are swords.
Their claws are spears.
Their wings hurricanes.
Their breath death.
Pardon. 6 limbs inferior?
May I remind you that the wings of a 6-limbed dragon are generally depicted as identical to the arm of a 4-limbed one?
This means that asside from the fore-arms being ballast while in flight, there is no downside to having them.
On the plusside, forearms allow the complex manipulation of objects, grabbing things, smashing things and general stability when standing.
I personally think that while the dragons on GoT look fantastic, it's a shame movies seem to avoid depicting dragons as they are depicted in the legends that spawned all of this stuff.
Well... 'as they are depicted in legends' is a touch of a tricky subject given that nigh every culture that has ever put tongue to tale has legends of what could be called dragons, and near none of them agree on anything, what with the bit about the myriad and disparate cultures for the most part never having even heard of each other,
They’re based off of Wyverns, which were also mythologized to exist in the same area
More
Its fucking awesome
Nevermind all that actual history stuff, I want to know how to win a battle if I were to have a dragon!
Please explain the witcher
Game of thrones dragons or Dragonlance dragons? Or an elder GoT dragon vs a dragon Overlord from Dragonlance?Who'd win?
actually dragons have 6 limbs, 4 legs and 2 wings, a four limbed wyrm is called a Wyvern or a Drake.
Dragon is a bracket term not exclusively referring to a 6 limbed creature if we take various European regional traditions into account
GRRM has specifically stated that his dragons has 2 legs and 2 wings, 'cause its scientifically accurate that flying animals would only have 2 legs and 2 wings, not 4 legs. You can watch it here:
ua-cam.com/video/6W7ojq1ET3k/v-deo.html
Oh shit it's Devin
In a world of ice and fire wyverns exist but are the much smaller flameless cousins of dragons
Im confused. The GoT dragons are wyverns.
Valyrians?
Bruh that's cute
The best dragon trainers are the Berkians that gathered all existing knowledge about dragons through the dragon eye device.😂
O shit its mah boi Offy-D
Dude you have the perfect voice for a narrator.Kinda disappointed you hired someone else.
The guy he hired sounds more like the Maesters of the show.
Dragon flames can't melt steel beams
Tiberiu Nicolae the flames of the largest dragons could. Balerion’s flame was so hot as to melt stone, metal, flesh, and burn anything it touches

Where's parts 2 and 3?
Isn't that vyvern? well you know 2 legs
Whatever an author says is a dragon, is a dragon in that world.
would it be a different fantasy world, yes.
Zion The Dragon
It's a fucking fantasy creature, you dipshit. IRL myths have shitloads of different dragons. Slavic dragons have several heads, asian dragons have four legs and no wings but still can fly, etc.
Steel Bear who you calling stupied?

But what about poison and lightning wyverns?
where is part 2 and 3?
I'll post each episode a week apart
a dragon is basicly a flying flametrower tank
Yasssssssss
How Targs control dragon Is because they use magic back in old valria the dragon lord family's like the targeryen the did somthing to magical bond with dragon they bred with them and use magic ect so now the magic to bound with them is just genetically inside of them
But the question is can they melt Steel Beams if the Jet Fuel Can't?...
Is anyone here watching this series again after seeing _House of the Dragon_ (2022)?
I recon that because they are reptiles, they would grow their whole life like snakes
Railgun Gaming but dragon’s are warm blooded, and every modern reptile certain isn’t.
I really fucking want a blue dragon
how much a dragon can grow
Your telling me brand can see every battle ever and didn't have a better strategy
I am a nerd for game of thrones
devin..... THE FUCK YOU DOING HERE !?
Interesting, will you do a video about how an army without dragons might counter them too? Just out of curiosity.
Koleck Suneater that will be discussed in part 3
(grins) I love this. I've spent years heavily writing up all the "Dragon" articles on ASOIAF/Game of Thrones Wikis, I can tell when it ripples out and people are going over the "research" (haha) again; not that this is a problem, that's why I (and so many others) put so much work into it. We want to make sure everyone gets it right. This stuff is great. Is part 2 already finished? I could send you some resources I made from extensively reading through all the Dance of the Dragons prequel novellas (a lot of the Wiki of Ice and Fire entries were my obsessive notes).
The Dragon Demands part 2 is done and will air next weekend followed by part 3 the week after. Thanks alot for the detailed wiki notes, those have been a TON of help. Id be curious to hear how this series is taken by some of the more lore savy people. Id love to share it with more of them. Any ideas what would be a good way to do that?
Well I'm not exactly the most popular fellow in the social circles, but I'll post it in the wiki feed (it's great) - maybe a dozen views there though. Oh you got everything right - and to be honest anything I mailed would be just stuff I put in wikis anyway. I just had this one big chunk I couldn't fit anywhere else titled "Dragon combat" explaining the whole thing about "younger dragons are nimbler" and "kill the rider and the dragon will depart is a half truth" - it will go berserk, albeit directionlessly, and make mistakes like charge enemy crossbows and scorpion shots head-on. But a lot of that's in there already. I'm excited by the documentary-style map graphics.
technically those are wyverns not dragons. You can say a two legged version makes more sense when it comes to flight but a 4 legged version makes much more sense when you take into consideration the full traits of a dragon. They rarely fly, live in caves, 2 legged would have trouble supporting itself on the ground and 4 legged would be stronger in combat. Also fantasy dragons are often said to be able to take human form / change shape.
I will just copy a comment I made under different comment thread:
The whole dragon and wyvern distinction is based purely on Dungeons and Dragons and therefore cannot be seen as accurate for naming them . In Slavic mythology, you often (if not almost exclusively) have dragons with multiple heads and no mention of the number of legs (the amount of heads is mostly based around number 3, sometimes going up to 12 heads). Asian dragons do not have wings and so on. Different places have different dragons and I see it as really wrong that there are many people who automatically go with information from some stupid RPG game and say how everyone else is wrong, because dragons NEED to have 4 legs, otherwise they are wyverns.
On top of that, every story has its own world. In GoT, there actually are wyverns and some suspect that Valyrians created dragons by infusing them with magic. In that world, dragons have 2 legs, just as wyverns do. Our real world requirements (which don´t even exist, as I mentioned above) don´t apply there.
The same goes for other fantasy works. Glaurung, the first dragon created by Morgoth in Tolkien´s world, did not have wings (nor did the first generation of dragons). Does that make him something else than dragon?
Dragons are what authors say they are. Who are we to say them they are wrong, because their world is not the same as world of a tabletop RPG game?
Filip Batora
Not all heroes wear capes
Filip Batora
Can you stop spreading this bullshit?
The "dragons" are based on European mythology and in European mythology a dragon has four legs and two wings.
A wyvern has two legs and two wings.
No, this did not start on the Dungeons and Dragons game.
I don't know where the fuck you pulled that from.
Um, no vertebrate in history ever had more than four limbs, (wings are limbs so birds have 4 limbs) and six limbs could be a bit extreme to be plausible, at least IMO. Y'know, there is no law whatsoever that says dragons have to have 6 limbs. They can have 4 limbs if the creator says so. And if they existed they would look more like this.
U scared tf outta me when the video started
Awesome, ..biologically speaking, just like proven by dinosaur fossils and nowadays bird anatomy, the one thing that make creature that massive can fly, is a lot of air sack in their body to deal with weight n gravity...the law of physics still rules
Cool video and all, but they’re Wyverns
GRRM said that he made his dragons based off scientific appearances of real life flying animal that only have two legs and a pair of wings- very late comment
Is it true that Invicta studied history?
Ketchup I studied mechanical engineering. History is a side passion
Close enough I guess. Keep up the good work! :)
I like four legged dragons more
Actually, dragons tend to have six limbs. A sub category, the wyverns, what Daenerys' dragons are, have indeed four limbs. but saying all dragons do is false.
First things first, the wyven and dragon thing is based on Dungeons and Dragons. In mythology, dragons can have wings/no wings, 2/4 legs, 1/multiple heads and so on. If GRRM says dragon in his world has 4 limbs, dragon in his world has 4 limbs.
Filip Batora
You couldn't be any more wrong ....
Dont we call a Dragon with arm/wing a Wyvern?
yeah
Yeah we do according to medieval mythology, but the rule has been broken so many times in recent history, like Skyrim, the line is so blurred that I don't think anyone cares anymore.
Another thing to consider is the fact that there's no creature on earth (That I know of) that has four legs and wings, so dragons might just be evolutionary inferior, and therefor (In a fantasy universe obviously) might never have existed in the first place.
That's at least my thought on the matter.
CaptainZyber Yaaa but thats what make the dragon, the griffon and the manticire such majestic and myhtological creature, theres is no 4 legs animal with wing, because mainly their Vertebre wouldnt support such physiologie;
So my point is, if your talking about a dragon in a fantasy world (GoT or Skyrim) its should have a impossible anatomique structure, since fantasy permit if; But if you want a more realistique dragon, its then a Wyvern, a sub majestic dragon.
I thought wywerns were dragons that couldn't breathe, like the ones in sothoryos
thats right on the dot
scrollong in comments *"wyvern not dragon"*
