- Abandoned Update - Kmart - Shaler Township, PA. Closed on January 6th, 2019, the store has just sat vacant all year. This video is just shows an update here as what has been going on with the place... and its absolutely nothing. It has been left to collect dust.

Did you know that the second Kmart to opened the same day as the garden city Kmart opened but at a different time? Glenplazza in Pontiac.

The reason the garden canter fence is like that because back in the day they would throw the Super Nintendo over the fence and other small electronics
When I was a kid it was common for thieves to go to Kmart and throw things like Nintendos over the garden center fence to sell at the highschool for half price. That might be the reason for that excessive fence.
Those lights that appear green on your camera @3:41 appear to be good old mercury vapor ( MV ) type of lighting and thankfully those didn’t get retrofitted to LED. It’s a type of high intensity discharge lighting that includes high pressure sodium or HPS and those are the ones that light up in pale orange and often that’s for most street and parking lot lighting up till within the last few years before a lot of those got changed to LED. And there is another type that lights up more white and Walmart had used those to light up their parking lots is another type called metal halide (MH) . Walmart’s parking lights used those square shaped fixtures on the poles. I had heard those Walmart metal halide parking lot lights ( in 1000 watt per fixture) required 480 volts to operate according to one member off a lighting gallery site I’m on. 😀
I stop here from time to time just to see if anything has gone on but it is so sad
I used to shop at the Shaler K-Mart through the 1970s and 1980s.I lived in Richland Township north of Shaler.

Thanks so much for your update. My family shopped at that K-mart for many years until we moved to the south hills. We then frequented the Moon Township K-mart until we got our own K-mart in Bridgeville in 1975. You mentioned Aldi's - back in the day, that was a Thorofare store - and if you shopped there during the summer, you got free tickets to West View Park.
I really wish I could have experienced West View Park. From the stories my family has told me over the years, to the photos and videos I've seen, it looks like it was a fantastic park. Hard to believe i grew up in the area with it being known as something completely different to what my parents and grandparents grew up with. I heard behind the Kmart on the hill there may still be a couple of boards or pieces of stacks from the coaster. In the fall and winter, when I'm looking at the hillside I can almost tell where it would have run.
I like how the signs are actually still up!
Just ate 2 Aldi hot dogs on Aldi buns, a Aldi salad, and a Aldi Summit brand diet soda. Love Aldi!

A great video but sad too because I hate seeing these KMarts close. At least it's not becoming another unnecessary UHaul (what is everybody moving all over the place? I can't afford to move out my apartment.)
You tell great stories, best when you are just walking and narrating. I think we Poles know how to talk and giving interesting tales.
Speaking off I went to an Aldi in Krakow Poland to get snacks and looking for microwave periogi (My hotel had a microwave.) Nothing fancy but busy and good prices. Got some polish ham and snacked on that too. Design wise nothing special, but the store was packed. If you have the time it could be a fun video seeing you and Kayla shop at Aldi. My closest is a 40 minute bus ride from my home. Need one closer than Union City (or Krakow.)
Wow, given your area I am shocked you do not have an Aldi any closer to you. We have 3 of them within just a few miles of our house. 2 in Ross Township which are less than a mile away from each other as a matter of fact. Anyway, glad you enjoyed my video despite me being a silly Pollack! Lol
The Ames in Philipsburg was in the plaza off of 322 across from Sheetz.
The Kmart in DuBois was off of 256.
Make that 255 not 256.

I live north in Allegheny county. The New Kensington Kmart closed right around the same time. I do know it was open for more than 50 years. Now sits empty just like the one in Shaler. I shake my head every time pass either one of these stores because they made a comeback, closing some stores then boom, the money’s running out and the stores are closing faster than I can drive home on Route 28

My local Aldi’s just got redone to grand reopening was last Thursday.
Well the aldi I go to build their new building and sold their old one to goodwill store and aldi when they build their new one they moved it away from local vandals and they have a gate at the entrance of their parking lot now which is sad.
Back at the Clearfield Mall, the other end of the mall was a JC Penny that just closed earlier this year.
The stand alone building used to be a Riverside supermarket.
It sat empty after Riverside/BiLo moved to the Kmart Plaza.
It was converted to a Peebles, Rent-a-Center & Pizza Hut.
The Riverside changed names to BiLo Foods.
At Kmart plaza,,where Aaron's & Save-a-lot are, was a County Market supermarket.
They closed and BiLo moved there.
Then they changed names again to Thorne's Market, then it was split into two for Aaron's & Save-a-lot.
There was also a different Riverside supermarket downtown where Family Dollar is.
The Z is looking pretty sweet. The side emblems turned out awesome. The older Z24's had color to the emblems but for some reason with the body style they with the color keyed emblems. But hey, just gives you the opportunity to make it more "your own" gives it that "SS" look.

It's hard to do the ones you grew attached to over the years. All the memories you have are it, you can never make any new ones, only remember the good times you had while it was there.

Interesting that they left the Kmart sign up. The last Sears that closed in my area (Rochester NY) closed on St. Patrick's day and the signage for that store apparently was never taken down either.

I mostly stopped shopping at the Kmarts in my area once they got rid of the gaming portion of electronics. Plus it didn't help that they got stingy with the ShopYourWay rewards, usually giving me some absurd 'buy $150, get $10 off' ones and no straight up free points anymore. Not to mention they made clearance markdowns on a store by store basis versus being across the whole chain at one point. Unfortunately now Target does the same thing and their electronics clearance has gone to crap. Either that or the local resellers buy up everything. I used to clean house during the PS2/Xbox and later PS3/360 clearance at the Kmarts here. So many insane deals for so cheap.
Fantastic video! Thank you for showing us the K-Mart store that you went to whenever you were a kid. Sadly, the K-Mart store that's closest to me, which is in Bridgeville, is still empty. I would like to see a Rose's Discount Store there someday.
If you go Clearfield PA, 3 hrs east up 79 then 80, there's two former Ames, and Kmarts, a Kmart in DuBois and an Ames in Philipsburg.
In Clearfield:
At Target Square is where Ames first was along with a Super Duper grocery store.
When Ames bought Murphy Mart, the Clearfield Ames moved from Target Square to the Clearfield Mall where the Murphy Mart was (Ace's Adventures filmed there).
Ollie's is where Ames was at the mall.
Up the road where Big Lots is, is a Kmart from the 1970s. Where Tractor Supply is, was the auto center and around the side was the "prison yard".
In 1997, Kmart moved to the other end of the plaza where they built a bigger store, and it became a Big Kmart.
It was among the closures during the 2002 bankruptcy.
It was empty until last year when Rural King moved in.
8:52 you can see what is behind the boards that he questioned what that was about at 8:33. Looks like heating/ac units on the roof
But people will try anything when comes to theft. Wal-Mart has a better set up for protecting outdoor stuff, steel bars vs chain link fence. Excellent video, thank you for sharing.

They are finally closing the one in my home town. It's been in operation for 29 years. The store was a time warp. They never sunk a dime into it since it was built. The last 15 years it's been a run down filthy store with robots running the place.
I used to go to the Aldi in Brazil Indiana but it closed down I don't know what it's going to turn into but it's getting painted white and red and there's a Walmart connected to it not really
About the Garden center you would think that Wallie but I used to work at Lowes and in the Garden Center people stole the bricks and flowers and everything the one I was working at had the same height fence that KMART had in your video. People do the dumbest things

We used to have a Kmart back then but they didn’t last very long in I think that our Walmart must have put them out off of Business
The area where our two remaining Kmarts are here (Northeastern Pennsylvania) had THREE in one smaller area at one point. That third one closed in 2005 and was tiny (like the one in Berwick, PA) compared to the rest of them. Same plaza also had a grocery store that closed (Weis Market) and a Blockbuster Video too.
No it's the ppl who voted with their dollars so blame the ppl who shop at walmart not walmart..

Our 2 k Marts here in Oklahoma has been closed for 4 years now surprise no one hasn't bought the building yet and the other one we had was torn down to make way for a hobby lobby and mardels

Hi Suze, I am also a fan of RnK but I'm not sure. I havent heard anything about them. I dont know if maybe they're taking a break from UA-cam or have been travelling. The Super Kmart in Thornton's lights are worse - re-watching them made me fill like I was in a creepy Christmas Wonderland XD. None the less, Pay yo bill, lamfart!
I'm having the exact same issue with notifications. For me, there's a tendency to only *not get notifs* on live streams. And then I get notifs for only larger channels even though I have all notifs on for all the channels.
