  • In today’s video, I'm going to be showing you a secret homeless camp in Dallas, Texas that I found while skateboarding. My purpose behind creating this video was not to exploit those less fortunate, but rather to bring attention to the homeless problem we have here in Dallas while showing the ingenuity of those forced or wanting to live off-grid, (mixed with a bit of urban exploration and a skate edit). If you'd like to help those in need, please visit www.dallaslife.org to donate today.

Lived here all my life and in the last 5 years Dallas has become a destination city for the homeless. DPD does very little these days to them so they can break city ordinances, panhandle, and commit piety theft openly with no recourse. No joke I've spoken to multiple guys in the NW HWY 35 area where there is multiple large camps who moved here from southern Texas cities where they were also homeless as they heard the Dallas police don't hassle the homeless. It's a sad situation not only for them but for the community at large. Fingers crossed we don't go the route Austin has taken....

I also lived in a sober living house in my younger years after a DUI and the house manager had spent 20 years homeless in Dallas through the 80's and 90's. During that time he was written situations for vagrancy and other piety crimes that he of course had no way to pay as well as code infraction citations. All in all when we lived together he owed the city of Dallas almost a million dollars due to those tickets and the failure to appear in court. It was to the point that they would not let him even sit the fines out in county jail and he was writing the Texas Governor and Attorney General of Texas. Crazy how the justice system an police can make a bad situation so much worse for a person instead of trying to help them....

The vast majority are drug addicted and they dont want help. They want drugs. People who work and pay property taxes won't stick around if the city council continues to ignore this issue with flaccid policies. One only needs to look at Austin and all of the California cities to see what comes next when you pass out needles and pretend like it's a homeless problem and not an addiction problem.

NOT ALL HOMELESS PEOPLE ARE BAD OR CRIMINALS!! Some of us are just trying to survive! We don't make enough money to afford a place to live, but we do pay our bills, buy what we need.... food, water, trash bags, etc. & we even go to church! We would really like to have an interview with the media!!

It was definitely sad to see. I don’t know what I was expecting to find at the end of those trails, but it certainly wasn’t entire makeshift villages. Thanks for watching!

9:45 just like the 1930's Depression. I was wondering when people would start building huts instead of tents. This isn't funny.

Definitely agree. It was a surreal area to document and was really easy to get lost in that last area I explored among all of the scattered stuff and strange angled trees. It’s crazy just how many people live out there. Seems like we need more shelters out in that area of Dallas and more support for the homeless. Thanks for watching, Sue.

I biked those paths for years. Hillcrest and 635 down to White Rock Lake, around, and back. It's bad up near Texas Instruments at 635 and 75. Several brand new paved trails, but already covered in garbage, glass, and graffiti. Doesn't feel safe. Wouldn't do it anymore by myself. There was also a jogger on the same paths killed by a homeless person not long ago unfortunately.

I call homelessness a rich man's paradise these days. Some will say it is a choice, half true, but because of low wages and the cost of EVERYTHING going up this time around, some people can't keep up and give up. Some gives up by force such as means of eviction. You know, they are talking about a living minimum wage at $15 an hour, but, by the time the economy settles after all these price hikes, a new standard will be created. It will be like minimum wage never budged regardless if it being more than double of $7.25. What an evil world we live in! Rich man's paradise? They are the reason why the cost of living is going up and they enjoy the sight of people living in the streets or in poorly structured homes. Not everyone can be a billionaire, nor a millionaire, but a decent standard of life should be readily achieve at least providing if one is in the work force, but how is an individual able to get an apartment, pay the utilities, eat and afford health insurance- All basic necessities at $7.25 an hour? Living in luxury is one thing, but when you can't afford your basic necessities... It's just ain't right man.

We have a very messed up system for sure and inflation is outpacing wages by a huge margin. I hope all of these people get the assistance they need. 🙏

@@EricJKuhns I take it you saw where they are raising the rates by 3/4 of a point. I reiterate...They act like everyone has a huge pile of money in their accounts and assume that everyone can afford more price hikes.

That looks like the Trail that goes to White Rock Lake? There is a homeless camp in McKinney & I’m friends with a 3 of them that walk down our street. Builders tore out another homeless camp nearby & built a Yuge apartment complex across the street from McKinney Highschool😬. Is Garland Skatepark open Yet?

I use a combo of a GoPro hero 9 Black and occasionally my iPhone 11 Pro. Neither is very good in low light though so there’s a lot of settings I have to change in those conditions. For videos like this though in the sun, go pro does really well on basic settings! Most of this video was done on the gopro. If you you’d like to see more about my gopro setup, I did a video here on it 😊: ua-cam.com/video/mV_J1jvL_Jc/v-deo.html

This is no good, can't have homeless camps everywhere. Sorry foreign aid we need some domestic aid right now. And spending beyond our means won't help. In the long run it'll hurt the economy and there'll be even more homeless. Didn't we use to have projects for the homeless, that's not a thing anymore? And maybe they don't want to live in government housing? Well too bad, you can't just set up a dirty needle shanty town in every park in DFW.

Some cities are trading food/supplies/pay for trash pick up around the city. Maybe the city of Dallas will catch onto that soon, though there’s a mental health component here as well. Definitely not something I’m gonna solve in a UA-cam comment lol. Regardless, something should definitely be done by our city leaders!
