In parts of buddhist lore, and in certain eastern myths, Butterflies signal someones soul passing on and finding peace. Thank you for finding this person and bringing them home. You brought their soul and their family peace. You are an amazing human being. Thank you for all that you do.

Nope. I'm afraid i must break your fantasy.
Butterflies and moth are attracted by rotten or smelly thing. Some butterflies are not completely live off nectar, they also need sodium that producted from sweat and rotten things. They are not always as fancy as you think. His body was rotted so bad that attracted so many butterflies.
That how the story that butterflies always appear to guild souls back to nether realm started.

Please consider taking a sabbatical to rest from search and rescue missions. Unless you are doing it as your main job, experiencing the gruesome hiking trails and witnessing so many tragic deaths can take a toll on your physical and emotional well-being.

I was a member Search And Rescue team between year 2001 - 2007 in a country in South East Asia. If we talk about South East Asia, we could imagine how thick the rainforest here. But no GPS or modern navigation tools during that time, only a classic map, outdated tools, experience and instincts. The moments when we found dead body of missing hikers, is the moment of relieved but disappointing and sad at the same time.
But I remember back in 2003, we found a two-weeks-missing hiker. We found him alive with broken leg, looked skinny, weak and exhausted. When I met him, the first thing he was asked is a cigarette, and I gave him.

I found it sad but beautiful at the same time. A dead body of a person in the middle of nature just forces me to think it otherwise than sad. It's like humans, coming from the nature, then going back to the nature at the end of their lives. It is very sad to see that but look at the nature, it feels like nothing happened. But for the human , there is a very sad thing happened there. But not for the nature. It's always beautiful, calm yet dangerous. Comforting it's creation at the end of their lives. Wierd but sad.

My dad was a neurosurgeon, and prior to med school he worked as a first responder & led a search & rescue team. My sister & I are both doctors now, and prior to med school, we were both first responders, but we never worked w/search & rescue. As rewarding & necessary as I find search & rescue work, it’s just so hard to know that you’re in search of someone who you can’t help. As Dr’s, we want to fix everything - to make it better. But we all know that there are some things that can’t be fixed. Giving families bad news is the worst part of my job…& as important as it is to be able to provide closure to families with a lost loved one; give them the opportunity to say goodbye, & to give their loved one a respectful & loving sendoff, it takes a very special person to go in search of that closure for them. I’m not that special person. But my dad was. He was so special. And clearly, this man is, too.
Something my dad told me has always stuck with me, and it seems to be backed up by this video. He said that the most important part of search & rescue was paying close attention to nature. He said that nature will always lead the way, if you understand the message. He always said that birth and death were the universal language; everyone & everything has a deep, inherent understanding of, & respect for, both. Those butterflies were there for a reason. It wasn’t an accident, or a coincidence. The fact that he noticed them, and understood that there was a deeper meaning for their presence, it’s all part of what makes him exceptional. I’m so grateful that we still have people who are this wonderful, and I’m always grateful when I’m reminded of it. ❤️

Last month my friend had stupid accident in water, but I had to go for him in few seconds otherwise he will drown. The feeling you have to risk your life too was crazy and never should happen.

to give a little more context to the butterflies - the behaviour is called "mud-puddling", and it's done to feed on certain minerals (salts). there's a chance the butterflies were swarming there for the wet soil/plants rather than the body (mud is a more common source, hence the name!), but some butterflies do seek out blood or sweat as a source as well. hope that clears things up.

I helped search for 3 days, there were 30 deputies, horses, ATVs, drone and helicopter and we couldn't find him in a small patch of woods. Maybe 200 acres all together, you couldn't see someone 30' away Florida woods are no joke. It was June and crazy hot, I knew after 3 days he was gone. The cops gave up after 4 days but still flew heli over everyday. He wasn't found until the 8th day by vultures! He was 200 yards behind my house, I was searching in that area too I probably walked right past him. I was yelling out every now and then, which the police weren't doing which I thought weird.
It doesn't have to be a big area to get lost in, Florida woods are tricky they couldn't even find that guy that killed Gabby and I'm sure they had more looking for him. It's one of the reasons that the Seminoles are one of the undefeated tribes, you aren't going to find someone who wants to be found, let alone someone actively trying to evade! I felt so bad for the family I tried to lead them where the body was found, the cops wouldn't let me go back there so I had to guess where and they were glad for even that. Guess it was some closure for them!

It was beautiful but bitter sweet so to say.RIP to this person, and I hope their family has closure. I watched a few of your videos and cried every time when you found what you were looking for. When in nature, you need to learn and respect. Nature can be brutal, and beautiful.

I had this happen a few years ago when I was trying to find poached game here in the PNW of the United States. I came across a carcass, not the one I was looking for, and it was absolutely littered with butterflies. When I approached they filled the air, making it anxiety inducing to be in the area.

It’s so nice that you have the knowledge, skill and empathy to do these recovery’s!!! Here in the US people go missing all the time in the wilderness all the time and are never seen again. Your music is also very respectful. One of the things I enjoy about your videos is the scenes of the trails. In there last hours/days at least they were in an absolutely beautiful place.

    • @CRneu
      @CRneu 2 роки тому +40

Yo, I work SAR and wilderness rescue here in the PNW of the United States.
Lets put this into context because it's really staggering the scope of the western US. Taiwan has a TOTAL area of just under 14,000 square miles and you can remove most of the coastline because it's developed so we're really only dealing with the interior, which makes up about 8000 square miles . Take a guess at how large Oregon is....Oregon is just under 100,000 square miles. One US state is literally 10x larger than the forests of taiwan. Now add Washington, Idaho, Colorado, Montana, Nevada, Arizona, California.
It's not really comparable. People go missing in the US and aren't found because it's next to impossible to organize enough people to search the area. This is why it's SO, SO important to leave traces. Tell people where you're going. Check in on social media whenever you have service. Use a garmin in reach. Make logical decisions and stay on trail.

I ran up the hill to call the police and he was finally pulled from the water. I can only hope that after all these years his family has peace of mind and his soul is at rest. the sight was horrific I hope I never have to see that ever again. if you go to the river, mountains or forest bring a survival kit! you never know what could possibly happen.

I was told they found the person at night and unfortunately he fell and died. And strange things happened when they wanted to recover the body.
For a start, temperature dipped to an unusually cold freeze. Secondly all of their torch lights stopped working. And finally all the stretchers broke when the body was placed on top.
They only managed to bring him down at dawn. I’m not sure of the significance of such occurrences but just wanted to share the story.

I slipped on the damp moss and ended up clinging to the tree with just my arms. I was not fit at the time and dangling over very sharp rocks. I could not get my legs to hook onto the trunk and was losing my grip on the bark. I prayed to God for strength and tried again. Somehow, I got my legs wrapped around the tree and managed to crawl upside down like a monkey to the other side and found my way back to camp. I could easily have died that day. A lot of people commenting about the folklore behind butterflies. I would just like to say that butterflies are attracted to decaying bodies. They drink the fluids that come out. Usually through the eyes. They prefer urine and blood most. If you see swarms of them, there usually is a dead animal nearby. You can always find them swarmed on washed up fish on beaches. Its beautiful. And almost peaceful. They say butterflies are a loved one coming to say hello. But I just wanted everyone to know the science behind it. It can be a clue to a body discovery if you cannot smell it immediately. 💙🦋
