  • My name is Jake Schogler - I make lures!
    In this video I show you all the steps to make this realistic looking male stickleback. This was a fun build and a new design so it was a bit of a challenge, but we got there in the end!
    I would love to hear what you think so let me know in the comments!

    That's fantastic! As a lure maker myself, I'm always impressed when someone free-hands the shape like this, and gets it perfect. Great job mate, looks great!

      Thankyou very much! It was a challenge to paint because the lure is so tiny and my fingers are too fat 😂✌

    The rays of the dorsal fin are a great touch. I would imagine that predatory fish are used to being finned in the mouth by their meals, so I wouldn't think this would be an issue. My concern would be for the durability of the design, but it seems that the clear coat would help protect them from damage. Either way, I like them!

      Thanks for watching another of my builds Mike! I think this ones a bit of a novelty, built more for the challenge of building than a practical design. Still it is surprisingly tough for a wee lure ( thanks to the epoxy!). I was surpised at the action so I think I may carry some of the ideas through to another design. Maybe not the hard spikes though, I may find something less 'Stabby' ! 😂

    So cute. I immediately wanted a couple as soon as I saw it. End result is very realistic and nice swimming action. Can't say I've ever seen a stickle back lure. What length is it? Do trout really attempt eating them with those spines, who cares I still want one, with hooks on. I also want a three inch one to match the biggest male Stickleback I ever saw.

      Thanks buddy! Ive seen some stickleback colour schemes but never a hard lure with spikes! ( lol prob a good reason for that ). It's just over an inch. Trout deffo like them, maybe the spikes are a trouts version of a hot curry lol. I'll add a bigger version to the list of upcoming projects and give me a shout next time your in town , maybe theres a couple of lures that want to come home with you!

    Thank you!... extremely tiny finness lure, amazing job!
    The paintings was perfect and fantastic!...but, not sure about adding wooden stickles... perhaps using a soft flexible material like soft monofilament could be easier on fish and make lure more durable.
    Carvings , though makes lure more appealing and also crafty, are very time consuming. Instead, head/gill/fin détails can be cut from a thick craft paper or cardboard and glued ! ;)

      Thanks for watching it and taking the time to comment 🙂 Yeah I agree about the stickles! They may put a fish offa biting twice, but hopeflully the first bite hooks them! Your monofiliament spike idea is good, given me some ideas at least 🙂 I have used the glued cardboard effect on some lures, but I wanted to give myself a wee challeng carving detail so tiny! 😉

    really enjoying the videos giving me somthing to watch. I've broken my leg just above my ankle in two places so cant get out on the bank fishing or get in the loft where all my lure making tools are
    i have messed about with balsa lures before and they are quite easy to do with minimal tools so going to start making a few myself as its somthing i can do just sitting at a desk is there anywhere in the uk that sells the glass fibre board online as usually i would use acrylic and cut it on the bandsaw. The board looks a lot easier and can be done at a desk so suites my needs.
    Thanks in advance and keep the videos coming pal 👍👍

      Firstly Thanks for watching! Sorry to hear about your leg, at least you are layed up during ther cold bit of the year! Thats what I love about wee balsa lures, you can do them in the house with a minimum amount of space and tools. I got my epoxy sheet off E bay Look for FR4 sheet. Theres a few UK suppliers. 1.mm is tough and easy to cut but it gets much harder to cut as it gets thicker.

    Hi Jake,
    Would you be able to make a few "inline" versions of these to order?
    They look fantastic!!!😮

    • @JakeSchogler
      @JakeSchogler  6 місяців тому +1

      Firstly thankyou for watching! So short answer is yes! Longer answer is I'd have to work out a mechanism for an inline system. So either single hook or a break away style harness. I'll have a think about it! But I'm totally open to commisions. It would have to work properly before I let it go to anyone to use though.Lol i'm just finishing off another lure at the moment, but once thats done I'll get my thinking cap on. I take it it's for Trout?

      @JakeSchogler
      Hi Jake, outstanding!
      I predominantly use in-line lures with a bead/split ring attached for single hooks.
      Same idea as the tazzie devil, savage gear seekers and Zerlings.
      The patterns on these lures are more designed for sea trout (but do work for browns)
      I'd be interested in trying different more natural patterns though to suit what we have in the Lochs here in Orkney. (Sticklebacks & small trout)
      I have re painted some seeker and Zerling lures to good effect, but seeing your work makes them look a bit meh 😐 🤣
