I was at this match. When Meninga went over for that try and nearly taking Les Dyl's head off in the process. The fans new that this match was all over, even after just 20 minutes. In the second half, the British fans were totally resigned to their fate and was cheerfully applauding the Aussies for what was then a masterclass by a much stronger and fitter team.
Good commentary albeit a bit one eyed. One thing Aussies must learn is basic Geography !!!!! England is not the same as Great Britain.!!!!! IT MAKES THEM SOUND LIKE BACK OF BOUKE OCKERS. STEWTH BLOODY OATH MATE. As for the 82 roos they were a game changing team. Outclassing Great Britain in skill fitness tackling pace. Only Des Drummond ( RIP 😔😔😔) was anything like as fit as the Aussies and that was because of his judo trading. Menninga was the pioneer of the freaky size backs, but the man was blessed with power skill and pace to boot. Awesome team, the resver team had some narrow squeaks notably v Wigan and Hull gave a mixed team a tough game. The 3rd test was a much tougher match when finally GB picked the best scrum half in Andy Gregory.

The ref was a good one, i dont understand the criticism , penalising players early for talking back, penalising for offside early to open up the game, and a very deep 5 m rule, more like 8 yards back, giving more room than the refs gave back in Australia in 1982 .

Rubbish he was better than many others at the time we had an Australia v New Zealand test in 1982 saw 44 penalties under English referee Fred Lindop which made it the worst stop start test I ever witnessed.
I’m not a Meninga fan, I’m not fan of Inglis (at all) but, l would pick Inglis in the centres before Meninga. Note, I wouldn’t pick Inglis as fullback either. Whatayareckon!!!!😊
No wonder the BBC commentators Ray French and Alex Murphy thought the Frog referee was doing a good job. What was the penalty count in the second half....10-1? If Rascagneres knew what he was doing Australia would have won by more. He was just as hopeless in the 1985 Australia vs New Zealand series and again in The Ashes on the 1986 Kangaroo Tour. The Aussies complained that he could barely keep up with the play in 1985 and hadn't improved by 1986. Seriously, the policy that we saw during the 1980s and early 1990s of having neutral referees for international games saw a lot of piss poor refs like Rascagneres, Desplas and Sablayrolles from France and Anui from PNG referee games they had no business being at as anything more than spectators. And Anui was given control of the 1988 World Cup Final. Like the Frog here he let the Kiwis (and some of the Aussies) get away with a lot of crap that day.
