I'm half Maori English and first time listening,to heavy metal, was all right, Stevie Ray Vaughan So excited live at the el mocambo watched him play for three hours without stopping just unbelievable 😮😊😊
Speaking of proud and fierce people, yeah, I've got both Scots and Irish relatives in NZ. Cool that you recognize the similarity. Last time the Scots rose up, it was their broadswords against English muskets, so yeah, like the Maori in a way...
The so called musket wars played havoc in New Zealand/Aotearoa. When war parties armed with muskets moved through the land there was only one realistic outcome for any tribe that tried to oppose them. In our own district it is estimated that up to 2000 were killed and provided feasting for days after the battles. Considering that hand to hand warfare had been the norm up to the introduction of the musket, not even bow and arrows being part of the weapon systems it is not hard to see how with such an uneven balance of power the effects would last generations.
I think 'eater of people/kai tangata' doesn't just refer to cannibalism (from a time when there weren't other large animals for protein), but also to the muskets, who 'ate' people a shot at a time, and indeed destroyed whole hapu/clans and villages. A lot of depth to this song, beautifully crafted and performed
Saw these guys live at Eden Park in Auckland and they were a support band for gnr that night, this song was the best song of the night, you should definitely see them live if you get the opportunity
Love the reaction!! If you want to go even harder with Alien Weaponry, React to Ru an Te Whenua, you think this song got you pumping??? Ru an Te Whenua will blow your fucking mind!! love your channel guys, keep up the slamming work, Much love from NZ
Say it like - Kai Tar-Naa-Ta is close enough. Tangata is person or people and Kai is food or eat. Im Maori, the same tribes as these kids. All Maori have a common ancient ancestors though our ancestors come from different places. Tumatauenga is our Ariki of war, movement, food collection .... (a primary spirit - like a God be the closest thing - we dont pray to our Gods - we are part of them, everything is of them. The Mauri (life force).
Alot of the guys in this video are the boys relatives .there literally singer about eating people Kai means to eat tangata people there also singing about their Tattoos and the meaning of some parts of the Tattoos and the weapons they are using and fighting against the invaders with the Muskets. There also singing about the Maori God of war Tumatauinga the New Zealand Army is called Ngati tribe Tumatauinga God of war.so Tribe of the god of war.
ruapatu is a good song too . its sung in maori. im a new zealander and have loved these guys since they came out, although i understand it a bit more than some. rock on
The Maori language is beautiful and fierce at the same time in this video. Learn about the musket wars in New Zealand. Hongi hika lead his war party down south and killed many warriors from other tribes. It was all from revenge from years of the blood feuds. Today New Zealand is peaceful, but it used to have a bloody past, first with the Maori fighting each other, then later when they fought the crown.
Imhalf cast maori, english never heard much metal but quite like this, Stevie Ray Vaughan Texas flood live at the el mocambo watched him play for three hours without stopping just unbelievable, ACDC ride on 😊😊😊
These guys and Shepherd's Reign together would be awesome, but that mosh pit might be the first in my life I've avoided. Pacific Islanders get a little intense for me. Lol
Kai Tangata refers to cannibalism. The Māori language is just holding together due to the popularity of the Haka at the beginning of All Blacks rugby matches. Another interesting band is Arka'n from Togo, W. Africa.
