      @@oTouchMe If my memory is correct, Cuddy was for the operation when there was little risk of him having chronic pain. But after House had the operation for bypassing the circulation and going into a coma to wait out the painful part, Stacey took charge and went with Cuddy's suggestion, who was a little bit against the idea by that point due to the increase in possibility of there being chronic pain. In the end, it was ultimately Stacey's call.

      He was SOOOO freakin good in this episode!! I'd say in my top 5 patient actor performances on house. He starts out all regal and polite, but as the episode plays out, his underlying hatred and evil become more apparent. SUCH a good performance!

    The brilliance of Hugh Laurie astounds me every time, no matter how many years I've been admiring his talent. The scene in the rubble is a masterclass in acting because it isn't acting - it truly is existing as the character and transforming as the character right before our eyes.

  • @oTouchMe

    This is one of the true episodes where House explains the pain he deals with everyday. The amount of times Cuddy and Wilson believe that House should feel pain is ridiculous when they don’t truly understand what chronic pain is. You can’t tell people with chronic pain enough to want to suicide that they should feel pain or more pain.

    • @kaseys2004
      @kaseys2004 29 днів тому +2

      I have chronic pain and it sucks. I wouldn't wish what i feel everyday on anyone. Chronic pain makes you short tempered and easy to irritate. I hate that, i miss who i used to be and being able to do things. The thing is you take the meds yo manage it but its never truly gone. Its like turning the radio down but not off. House being sarcastic is not just who he is to me but its because he gets irritated while in pain. I think him figuring out what is wrong with people is how he takes his mind off the annoyance of the pain. Hugh does a good job playing house. I watched the episodes before my back injury and then after and i think thats why he is the way he is. As for Wilson he understands at the end when he finds out about the cancer. Cuddy will never understand unless she gets hurt herself.

    best season.
    we've spent 5 seasons waiting for house to try to be better. this is the season we FINALLy see him really put an effort into it. we see the ugly gross process of growth and becoming better. and its just briliant. its the best season for houses character, by far. everyones got some great stuff going. cuddy and lucas, wilson and sam, foreman and 13, chase and cameron, taub,,. its just so much peak. every character just hit their stride so intensely, and the finale really peaks it. it cashes in on everything we've been waiting house to say. his speech to hanah in the rubble is the best scene in the show. its the most self aware, the most vulnerable, the most changed we ever see him. it reall is for the best. this season feels like everything we waited for. it makes sense you so often see the opinion nthat help me shouldve been the finale, because it feels liek the show pulls no punches and cashes in on its development. peak season.

    You don’t ever tell someone hey have nothing. I was told that by my so called best friend 6 months after my mom died because I was still grieving while my brother and father seemed to be moving on. They literally said the same thing just replace the names. It tore me apart and it took me from someone with just PTSD (because I watched my mom die unlike my father and brother), to an opiate addict of 3 years. Thankfully I’m now 7 years sober at the age of 28 but still someone who will always have ptsd.

      I was sexually assaulted battery and after a few years my hubby said, Aren’t you over it yet? I told him, I’ll never be over it. I just learn to live with it. It’s been 23yrs this Sept/24. I’ll always have PTSD.
      I’m sorry about your mom. Your dad and brother should drive into a brick wall going 100mph then get out of the car without a scratch. That’s how sudden trauma/traumatic experience hits your mind. To say, Aren’t you over it is crazy. It’s like the car hitting the wall, the injuries would be horrific and you don’t get over them overnight and sometimes you’re never over them because they don’t heal as good as they should. Just the way it happens.
      I’m happy to hear that you’ve been sober for seven years. Continue the great work!!😊

      I’m so sorry about what happened to you. About a year ago, my girlfriend was about to be raped after 3 guys were grabbing her and then started taking her behind this restaurant we were done eating at, she walked out last cos she had to use the restroom and I was half way to my car when I heard her screaming help and calling my name so I ran over to them and pulled my conceal carry weapon on them after several punches didn’t work. The cops showed up they were in plain clothes cause they were narcotics unit for the very small town we live in and they had me hand them my gun they placed the 3 guys under arrest, took me and my girlfriend inside to review the security cameras to make sure my pulling the concealed weapon was justified, which it was it was in defense of a third party, that being my girlfriend, cos it turned out the ring leader had a record and had a gun on him illegally for being a felon. I saw the gun being pulled a split second before the cops shouted at us.
      Anyway They handed me back my carry permit and my weapon, and said one of is going to ride with you to take her to the hospital so we have everything done by the book while my partner takes the scumbags to jail. She said sir you did everything right, you saw someone in danger and heard her screaming for help and tried to fight them off without a weapon, and when they knocked you to the ground you only had one option cos you didn’t know what they were completely going to do to her or you. When I got the full report with the testimony from the scumbags, one told the cops everything they planned to do with my gf, I never told her cos I don’t want her think more on it than she already has, and what they were going to do made me vomit and have a flashback to that night and a panic attack when I came out of it that I had to take 3 of my prescribed Xanax’s for my ptsd from seeing my mom die to calm me down I was so infuriated. I hate sexual abuser, rapists, and pedophiles more than anything on this planet.

    the way that house has to describe to hannah what he's cutting, how long it will take, and how bad it will hurt is likely one of the greatest scenes of that episode if not season. the dystopian feel of the place he's performing this procedure, with little painkiller and no anesthetic is painful enough to anticipate-- and hannah's screams really just sell it. incredible acting, directing and shooting. not to mention that house comforts her because of how scared she is... he really connects with her and seeing her die after that is all the more heartbreaking.

He told him about his plans and looking at it realistically there was no way anyone could have stopped this man. The second he would set foot in his home soil blood would run down the streets. Chase might have faked a diagnose and committed a crime (murder, manslaughter or malpractice resulting in the death of a patient), but it was moat definitely justified.

    You’d think somewhere between the Vicodin breakdown and the methadone treatment that almost killed him house would consider amputating his own leg to get rid of the pain. Idk if there was ever an explanation of why he couldn’t do that lol.

    • @Sniperboy5551

      Probably the possibility of phantom limb pain as a rationalization, but also because House just likes Vicodin. It dulls all kinds of pain: physical, mental and emotional. He needs his leg injury to justify his addiction. He’s not just addicted to Vicodin, he’s also addicted to finding answers… his character is an all-around addict. He needs his leg pain to have an excuse to go back to Vicodin, he likes having the option. That’s my take on it, but maybe I’m just addicted to alcohol.

      He's also incredibly prideful, and has expressed several times that he doesn't want to lose the leg, as irrational as that is. There's also a part of him that has feared that without his pain he won't be the genius that he is, like the pain is his superpower of sorts.@@Sniperboy5551

      Chronic pain is a difficult subject. I have Chronic pain in both legs and testicles. If I just amputate it does not fix the issue... The issue is the brain and nerves, the nerves are firing signals with no reason and the brain turns that into pain. You cut away the location then you start to get phantom pain, where you feel the pain but you don't have that limb.
      It was explained quite well in the episode with the veteran. He had his hand blown up by a grenade that pre-exploded in his hand. Through-out his life all he could feel was his hand being clenched non stop because the brain still believed it was there. The way to get rid of Chronic Pain properly is to trick the mind into thinking the pain isn't there anymore which you can do if you are lucky. It didn't work on me sadly, however one method was the mirror method for phantom pain. You make a mirror and a box, put your hand that you have in, then your other arm into the other side. You open the side which has the hand, and the mirror reflects your hand to make it seem like your second hand is there, you can then do something like clench then unclench to make your brain believe both hands have unclenched removing the pain.
      You could also try image replacement, it has a proper name I cannot remember it. You picture your pain as something, like lightning. You give it a color, then you think about the pain, what it is doing to you, how it affects you, constantly thinking about that image of the pain... During this time someone will do Rapid Eye Movement with you, where you follow their finger going left and right constantly. After a minute you then think of a happy thought to replace the image of the pain, you make the pain go away by causing your brain to believe that the bad image has been replaced by a good image, so the pain has been replaced.
      I was supposed to have my nerves cut below, but they decided against it because it will not only cause issues, but also there's a good liklihood that the pain won't go away and just turn into phantom pain.
      Chronic Pain is a widely unknown condition, we do not understand why it happens, we do not understand how to fix it, all we do know is how to cover it up, and that's with medications like Opioids.
      You can use Pregabalin or Gabapentin but just like Opioids, they stop working after so long... Or they don't work at all (my case), only opioids work for me and they are impossible to get in the UK.

      Iirc House eventually admitted that his pain was mostly psychosomatic so amputation wouldn't have done anything for him. He'd still be in pain

    • @Ghosts1129
      @Ghosts1129 2 місяці тому

      @@alexsinclair5358 Oh yeah, ontop of the issues of Chronic Pain, you also get 2 side affects. The first is the pain feels worse after some time when it actually shouldn't. You expect the pain to be bad so the pain is bad. The other issue is that opioids create pain, so when you have taken them for so long you will be in more pain than you were prior, and need more.
      THe depression that you get causes pain, the lack of sleep you get causes pain, then the pain causes depression and lack of sleep and lack of sleep causes depression.
      Basically you are screwed, you cannot break the cycle, but the cycle get's worse and worse. You do reach the stage where it defines you, however the drugs are not why House doesn't get amputated. He has been painfree once before and he stopped taking everything instantly and went running. I have done the same myself too when I have a good day with no pain (rare these days) I would go for long walks and not take any pain meds at all, infact I'd forget I had them.

    A doctor takes an oath to save lives but im not sure that includes murder in order to save lives.
    The moral dilemma arises when one has to decide whether to take action and pull the lever, causing the trolley to switch tracks and potentially save the lives of many at the cost of one life, or to refrain from intervening, allowing the trolley to continue on its current path, resulting in the deaths of multiple people ...

      when I was 13, I had to have surgery to put pins and plates in both my hips. the surgery in my right hip was botched. they reattached the muscles incorrectly and they pinched the sciatic nerve with a metal screw. I have been in constant, unending agony every day for over a decade now. I wake up, I am in pain. I go to sleep, I am in pain. my meds make it just about tolerable, but it never goes away. I am tired all the time. I am always in pain. its exhausting. I don't know how to exist without pain. I developed a substance abuse problem because the pain was almost too much to bear.
      this kind of pain makes people crazy. you take risks and do stupid things because you can't think straight. you become irritable and snappy because all your mental and physical energy is consumed with dealing with the pain. you lose empathy and kindness because you can't do it when you're in pain. and there's no end in sight. it will always be there.
