Judge me if you wish, but I actually got a little choked-up here!
It always hits me a bit when an obvious passion-project comes to an end, and this one has been something that's consistently entertained and informed.
Stirling efforts all around, Rowan. You're gonna be an absolutely kick-ass film maker.

Ideas for continuing Trek retrospectives...the computer/videogames, TrekLit novels, comics, tabletop games, the soundtracks...the convention/fanzine/fandom history. Love your passion for Trek and want to see more. That said, I share wholeheartedly your b5 loe and can't wait to see what you do with that.. My request? Do lots about the music.

This was the most amazing Star Trek commentary series I have ever found. Balanced, interesting, well-researched and super entertaining. Would you consider doing an "early impressions" series for Picard, Discovery, Lower Decks, and Strange New Worlds?

I've enjoyed your Star Trek retrospectives immensely, but your Babylon 5 teaser at the end of Part 19 has me jonesing! I've been watching Star Trek since 1966, and I love the franchise, despite some missteps along the way. But Babylon 5 has got to be my favorite SF series ever. This should be groundbreaking!

Dear Rowan, As a literally lifelong devoted Trek fan, I just wanted to tell you that I have enjoyed your Star Trek Retrospective videos more than any other UA-cam videos on the franchise. Your vast knowledge about what went on behind and in front of the cameras has been fascinating. Your calm, conversationally paced voiceovers are a pleasure to listen to. And most of all, I believe that the information and insights that you have shared over the series have given me an even deeper appreciation of the franchise that I have loved all of my life. I have gained a deeper appreciation of the many previously-unseen creative people who made the TV shows and films possible. I consider watching your Star Trek videos the best use of the time I have spent losing myself to UA-cam. Thank you so much!
P.S. How about a series about the making of Quantum Leap?

I'd thought that there was a smaller campaign of support from sci-fi writers spearheaded by Isaac Asimov to get a second season, and then the Trimbles led a broader fan campaign in season 2. That whole time has been incredibly mythologized, so it's hard to get at what the truth is.
Paris is, as a character, kind of the inverse of Locarno. Locarno is your buddy in public but a nasty piece of work privately. Paris in the beginning is trying to lean into "I'm a real bad dude, you shouldn't get mixed up with me" while also immediately attaching himself to the greenhorn that needs someone to keep him out of trouble.

Well I'm glad the mistake was spotted where you said, "the means justify the ends". I had noticed that on another video somewhere!
My question would be if you could live in the late 23rd or late 24th century (or any time coinciding with one of the series) in the Star Trek galaxy, where would you like to live and what species would you like to be?

I loved this series! I almost NEVER watch videos that the algorithm serves up for me, as I know what I want to watch when I have those few hours a week I get to watch UA-cam, and its almost never what UA-cam wants me to watch. However, it served up the TNG Retrospective for me when I fell asleep watching something else after a late night at work, so when I woke up, it was part way through that video. Usually I just turn off the sound and go back to sleep, but the Narrating, Editing, and information was so well done, that I continued to watch it, and subscribed to the channel after the video finished, and made it a point to start from the beginning of your series the next chance I got, and I am really glad I did!
As someone else mentioned above, I also almost came to tears (maybe a little hyperbolic, but definitely not that far from reality) when I learned in this video that you are moving on from the Star Trek Series. I love ALL of your videos so much, that I was looking forward to other topical videos on Star Trek. But, as someone who only watched Babylon 5 a little bit in my youth, I am looking forward to your series on that to inform me on whether I should go back and watch the entire thing.
I look forward to all your coming work, and will definitely look out for any film projects you are involved in. If you can post word of any work you are involved in up on the channel, or your community tab, to let us viewers know we have something awesome to check out, that would be amazing. Appreciate all the hard work! Much Love!

Rowan, you are a beast of a researcher and your voice is the thing that retrospectives are made of ! I enjoyed your retrospectives more than some of the “official” documentaries I have seen over the many years of viewing Star Trek in its many incantations. I note what you say about Star Trek The Animated Series, but I came across a recent docuseries on Amazon Prime called “Centre Seat” (I think it’s actually an IMDB production which Prime can show but with ads. Maybe ??) and the episode on the animated series is actually very good and turned my head sufficiently to give it some thought again. I’m also pleased that you gave an enormous nod to the Clever Dick Films’ Dr Who retro as, after I had watched and enjoyed that (I’m probably more into Dr Who than Trek but it’s close !), I happened to find your videos and thought that yours were at the same standard as his; and of course both of you have that lovely, silky voice that suits narration. I must confess that I am really looking forward to the release of the Babylon 5 retro’s as I loved that show, and I remember the excitement and tension as Series 2 and 3 unravelled themselves. Many thanks for your work, it is worth it believe me.

Count me in as one of the many people who really enjoyed the retrospective series. I really appreciate the comment that a lot of channels get overly nitpicky when it comes to criticism. I understand that it's part of what they do, given that they are relying on other content to generate their own content. But after awhile I feel too many of them nitpick because they feel the need to have critical thoughts...and it gets exhausting. So the tone of this series was very welcome and the opinions were nicely presented.

I do appreciate your correction of "the means justify the ends" error. While watching the video, it really grated on me. I even said aloud, "It's the ends justify the means!!!" You have done wonderful work on this and I thank you for all your time and effort. It's interesting to me to hear the bit about the Tom Paris/Nick Lucarno hulabaloo, because RDM recently said on an episode of The Delta Flyers that when he read for the part, he had a beard at the time and he said one of the producers (I think he said Berman's name, but I'm not 100% on that without going back to listen to it) handed him a razor and told him to go into the bathroom and shave it off, and then come back and read for them again. According to RDM, the reason this producer gave him for needing him to shave right away was: "He said to me that they didn't see Nick Lucarno, which was the whole reason they they wanted me on the show." He was not clear on whether or not they were thinking of making the part Nick Lucarno, so maybe they asked him to come in and read for a "Lucarno type" of character. But it _is_ a little weird that they would have the same actor come back and play the same type of character, only more redeemable. But ofc, that's very Berman, too, to take someone else's story idea or character profile and change it just enough to claim it's an original creation out of his own brain rather than someone else's work. Sadly, Gene did a lot of the same stuff in his day.

Rowan, I may disagree with some of your opinions, particularly the direction of Trek these days, but I'm happy to be here and appreciate the excellent work you've put in to the videos. I look forward to everything you've got in the pipeline.

I agree with season 3 of Enterprise and season 4 of DS9. I think Way of Warrior followed by The Visitor is right up there with Best of Both Worlds/Family as the best 3 Episodes in a row. Azati Prime/Damage/The Forgotten are an incredible triple hitter as well

These have been brilliant. Better than most commercially released efforts.

I’m so pleased you mentioned Clever Dick Films as your inspiration for your Star Trek Reviews as this was a series I thoroughly enjoyed before stumbling in your Channel. The series was so well researched & produced that I hoped someone would take the same commitment to producing a similar quality retrospective for Star Trek - & by sheer chance I stumbled in your channel. I’m hoping there’s similar ones for my other passions, Disney & Bond movies (although there is at least one enjoyable Disney series in the form of Electric Dragon 505, but as yet I’m still trying to track down a decent 007 Retrospective up to the quality of this Channel or Clever Dick programmes). If you know of any or think you’re up to the task please let me know, or maybe I’ll just have to learn how to do it myself. 😉
Anyway congrats from a fellow Scot (living in Spain) for the hours of commitment & the subsequent hours of entertaining me as well as your other followers.
I do intend to comment on each of the other shows on your Star Trek Retrospectives, but couldn’t resist commenting here when you mentioned your inspiration being the quality product of Clever Dick Films.
In closing I have to say you certainly equalled CDF’s quality & entertainment value on your own series. I only wish there were more to follow on your Star Trek ones.
Good luck with all your future ventures.
    Best wishes & thoughts,
    Andrew R.

Oh, I would absolutely love it if you did an X-Files retrospective! I've been thinking about rewatching it for a while.

Looking forward to your B5 retrospective as I rewatch the entirety of the show for the fifth time, (apart from Crusade, which I don't own). This time I'm watching the Amazon digital versions rather than my DVDs which ruined a major, later episode by removing a gigantic character moment because they cut out pre-credit sequences. Also, the DVD widescreen reformat buggered up a lot of shots. Hope you cover the TV movies too and, as much as I love Stewart Copeland's scores - especially The Equalizer show - mention how much Christopher Franke's music added to the series; The version of The Gathering rescored by him is far superior. Good luck with the retrospective, see you in The Zocalo.

I’m really happy for you that this series has worked out so well for you - like you said, often the most success comes from no-effort stuff while the passion projects languish. I wish you the best of luck parlaying this into your movie-making (I presume you mean as writer and/or director on a live-action production) sooner than you might’ve done otherwise! In a way it’s refreshing you have a long-term plan, so many other people just intend to milk it as long as they can and then figure-out something if it turns sour.
Given you mentioned other retrospectives, have you seen anything by Gaming Historian? There’s long-form histories of stuff like Tetris, Mario, etc.

in my opinion at least, you more than met the standards you had set for yourself. These are not some of the finest documentaries on Star Trek on UA-cam, these are some of the finest documentaries on a tv franchise period. Worthy of a DVD or iTunes release actually, if Paramount was so inclined.
I also think it's really great that you stand by and correct your mistakes. I've seen almost no one on UA-cam who does that, at least with that kind of content. I'm looking forward to the B5 retrospectives.
Here's wishing you all the best on your further journey as a filmmaker and also hoping for more retrospectives of the kind as long as you like to do them. Cheers. Have a nice day! Your continental neighbor from Central Europe.
