Never thought I would own a Leica, but found a great M4-P and lens pair. I should receive them this week. Looking forward to a black and white film 2023. Thank you for the video; it's helping stave off the pain from my wallet.

The M4-P is probably my favorite of them all. I started with an M3 around 2 years ago and have added almost every single model to my collection ever since. I picked up an M6 last november but since I'm so used to shooting without meter with Leicas that it just started to distract me. Have only put a roll of 5 through it this far but I already know I prefer the M4-P. To me, it brings together the best of everything. I like my M4 as well obviously but I just like the fact that the M4-P just has a bit more features (hot shoe, motor winder) and it's black :D Congrats on the purchase & enjoy it!!

Nice to see your enthsiasm. I also always wanted a Leica, but couldn’t afford one. Then... someone placed an ad on Facebook to buy a bunch of old cameras (tidy up the attic) for $50,- !
I recognized the red dot at the picture and bought it.
And guess what... an Leica m4-p in used but fine condition. I use it currently for 3 years now. Wow! Back to basic, no lightmeter, developing film... I love it.

I had a similar story, looking for an M6 and had so settle for a M4-2 but it had a dent on the top plate and it was driving me crazy! So I returned it, and luckily found a deal on an M6 on ebay, now I have a mint condition M6 😊
Oh man that’s DOPE so happy for ya! I was high key going down that road of one too. I ended up finding a good deal on a Zeiss Ikon ZM lol But I wouldn’t mind one. Have fun!

I picked up my first Leica, a 1954 M3 and love it. I get it now. Maybe some day I’ll pick up the M4-P. I’ve recently added a 1973 CL with the 40mm Summicron-C to my collection.

This was such a nice video, Edmund. Thank you so much for sharing it. I really want to get an M4-P some day, being a broke college student doesn't help much, but I'm sure I'll get one one day. I believe all Leicas have a special aura around them, seeing you get enthusiastic about it just proves my point, I've yet to see a person who's not happy with theirs. This is better made than any M6. The M6 uses zinc for the top plate, which has a bad history of corroding. From what I've read, the M6 TTL has problems with repair and even the old M6 has such a high price. Keep this one!
Talking of the two M6's - the M6 is the exact same size as the M4-P, it's the M6 TTL that's a little taller. :)

Amazing camera, you’re doing very well. The camera looks brand new. The winder is ok, don’t worry, you can use the winder like a thumbs up. The leather case looks like a Luigi case, absolutely perfect.
By the way, it is easy to fix the issue with the focuspoint. There are some good videos on UA-cam.
I’m using a M2, a M6 and a M9P, I’ll never sell any of my Leicas.

Very.. very.. nice ..don’t listen to Leica snobs who say m4p is lower quality...not true ... it’s the m6 that’s actually a bit lower in build quality..
When Leica went back to Germany to make the M6 the set about some cost cutting messsures..
Small things like the rewind crank is better(same as m4) and film counter is engraved metal (plastic on m6) and brass top plate..
It’s also nice to have a Leica that was made with all the old tooling that was sent to Canada from Germany..
Don’t listen to the Leica snobs about the whole Canada thing M4p ‘s absolutely rock .

Nice! Yours has a recessed viewfinder, mine has a flush viewfinder, like the M6. I may be wrong (and I hope people correct me in the comments), those with recessed viewfinder still use brass. My M4-P has zinc-alloy top and bottom plates.

Great video! But I’m curious, how to set the right iso on the camera body for the film you were using?
You can always set the iso to the speed on the film or push and pull if you have to. But you can also set it to the nearest iso example if you shooting a 160 speed and it doesn’t have that on the iso dial then you set it to 100 or 200 and make the correction in developing
How does the M4-P differ from the M4?
The M4, made in Germany are brass. The M4-2 and M4-P, made in Canada were a lighter aluminum and had more plastic parts.
