Glory to Jesus Christ! Thank you Mark for providing a clear example to NOT follow, and pointing us all to the meekness and humility of our Mother Church. The ONE, HOLY, CATHOLIC and APOSTOLIC CHURCH!
I’m a robust Protestant - but I think this is a swing and a miss. Chastity is not unmanly. Poverty is not unmanly. Jesus and Paul were both. Not just that, but the medieval / early modern mind that valued those things is about a hundred times more preferable than the modern mind, which worships sex and money.
Ever since the fall of man humans valued sex and money. That's the whole point of Christ and his teachings. Protestants didn't agree with the selling of indulgences and the corruption at the top that extends to this day as examples.
Wrong Jesus was literally God. There is zero difference. God jammed the max of himself in the form of man. God doesn't need to bang out with humans- your statement is ungodly ignorant as that of an absolute fool. Keep your foolishness to yourself. You have two ears and one mouth act like it.
They are celibate b/c how can you 100% devoutly give your whole life up and love Jesus Christ only when you have a wife and kids. Very hard to do. That’s why being a preist is not for everyone. But you can be a deacon
Hello Pastor,i am catholic,if you have any questions how women see catholic men , don't hesitate. It makes me sad that those words are full of prejudices. May God send catholic men into your life. Amen
Why do Catholics follow the current Pope, who's the supposed Vicar of Christ, but he clearly has been preaching against what Christ teaches in the Bible?
Catholism is mostly a false religion, filled with a bunch of man made up stuff, rituals and other things God and Jesus dont require. But what Christ does require is often ignored or misrepresented by their worship of Mary and not allowing the pple to read the bible and obeying their dogma book over the bible. And so much more...
and nothing but falsehoods. He may have been Catholic at one time but certainly didn't understand the Faith and thus now spreads falsehoods to make money.
The problem is that most men aren't meant to live as poor virgins. Yes, there are always exceptions, such as Christ... But you can't teach the majority of men to live a life that only a minority of men are actually supposed to live! A society with no wealth and no families is doomed to extinction!
😮 I'm a former Protestant that used to listen to Mark a lot. I tried to give him to sign my Bible but he said that he didn't write it. Lol. He definitely set up a straw man of what a Catholic priest is like. Are there bad priests? Yes, but most of them are good or great. And yes they teach us what it's like to be a father because they have a huge group to father. This was kind of ridiculous. And he kind of made it sound like Protestants work hard and Catholics don't. I'd like to see the evidence for that.
Catholics built Paris, Rome, the Louvre, St Peter's basilica, most of England's cities (Henry VIII stole them after we built them), and created the university system, the basis for science, and modern medicine. Protestants built strip malls.
I don’t identify with Protestant or Catholic although I embrace the biblical beliefs of both. I’m a Christian-period. Anyways I’ve met godly men from both Protestant and Catholic faiths. I highly doubt a family man is looking to the Pope for specifics on how to be a man of his home since the Pope has no clue on such things. I’d like to think Catholic men are smart enough to find someone else for family advice.
Jesus? Paul? "The unmarried man is anxious about the Lord and how to please him. The married man is anxious about the world and his wife and how to please her. " 1 Corinthians 7
@@codyschlenker6821 it’s biblical. (All things are possible with God) : “To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is good for them to remain single, as I am. But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion” (1 Corinthians 7:8-9). 1 Corinthians 7:32-40 AMPC “The unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord-how he may please the Lord; But the married man is anxious about worldly matters-how he may please his wife- And he is drawn in diverging directions [his interests are divided and he is distracted from his devotion to God]. And the unmarried woman or girl is concerned and anxious about the matters of the Lord, how to be wholly separated and set apart in body and spirit; but the married woman has her cares [centered] in earthly affairs-how she may please her husband. Now I say this for your own welfare and profit, not to put [a halter of] restraint upon you, but to promote what is seemly and in good order and to secure your undistracted and undivided devotion to the Lord.” Plus it worked for Paul and many other saints like Ignatius of Antioch, Augustine etc
@@codyschlenker6821 It seems that you are falling into the heresy of Apollinarianism. These views were condemned at the second ecumenical council in 381 (the First Council of Constantinople).
God is not calling all saints to be broke virgins…clearly that wouldn’t produce what he has intended when he created man. Jesus is the lamb the tender branch that was cut down in the prime of his life to take upon himself our penalties. By you telling everyone to specifically imitate that aspect you are hurting the society God was building. God called Jesus to this work not you. You are not an atonement sacrifice for anyone. Does it mean to live selfishly then in all aspects of life…no obviously.
Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” -- Matthew 19:21. He didn't say if you want to be perfect, start a LLC and leave a legacy through generational wealth and popularity...Great priests are some of the most admirable men I've come across. I absolutely look up to them.
Some wonderful Catholic media to fully DEBUNK THIS: The Catholic Talk Show; The Catholic Gentleman; Ascension Press (Father Mike Schmitz is AMAZING); Pints with Aquinas; Trent Horn; Catholic Answers. A Catholic Priest dedicates his life to God and the people he serves in his community. (Also, the Eastern CATHOLIC churches allow married priests, and there are some exceptions made for men who were previously married and already a pastor of sorts- such as Anglican- to become a Roman Catholic Priest). There are amazing Catholic parishes in AZ (where Mark Driscoll is) with wonderful Priests who are a great example of what a man should be.
@@909mr Hello! There are many great parishes here :) St.Anne in Gilbert, Holy Cross in East Mesa, St. Mary Magdalene in Gilbert, All Saints in Mesa, Queen of Peace in Mesa, and I also really like the ASU Catholic Newman Center in Tempe. There are many more to choose from - the beauty of the Catholic Church is that it is the Universal Church (Catholic means Universal in Greek) and we are all one church. Picking a parish that serves their spiritual needs helps though, the recommendations I listed here are all very reverent and lean more traditional. For a more contemporary parish, St. Timothy’s is very popular and lively with a mix of contemporary and historical tradition all in one! Hope this helps!!
I want, I want, I want, I want. That's pretty much all I hear when Mark speaks. I do understand the desire to want to do something that matters, but dedicating your life to leading Jesus' flock is the highest thing that anyone can do. This stinks of carnal desires of the flesh to me, which is exactly against what Christ taught.
So let me get this straight. You don't want to be a broke, virgin, but Jesus Christ was (when he was on earth) a homeless virgin with no possessions? Seems like the Catholic priests have it more proper.
@@FRL1344 I think you should have kept quiet on this. This doesn't make a good argument at all, especially when it's not even remotely close to what led to Protestantism.
The reason Priests don't get married, don't have children or own property is because that means they have no other attachments to earthly things and therefore can commit fully to God. There is nothing wrong with getting married, but not for priests. The work ethic is also not restricted to protestants. Are you saying the Irish, Poles and Italian's are lazy? Catholic teaching of "Ora et labora" means work and pray, came from St. Benedict who believed that hard work was essential, for Idleness is the enemy of the soul. So check your facts.
Dying rich and leaving a legacy is not the goal of Christianity, those are worldly desires. A priest gives his whole life to Jesus and to those he serves. Priests are usually required to have a Bachelors degree, usually focused on studying philosophy, theology and religion. And then serve 4-5 years in the seminary before becoming an ordained priest. It is a huge accomplishment and takes a lot of dedication. A Catholic priest is an excellent role model of self sacrifice and true devotion to our Lord Jesus Christ. A priest is very much someone who married men can look up to and look to for spiritual guidance ❤
Jesus was broke because he understood there is no value in the money we have only the spirit has value and second he was a virgin because there wouldnt be a single woman then or now worthy of being his bride but the church.
Jesus wasn't broke at all. He had everything at his disposal. He didn't need a purse. He could get a coin out of a mouth of a fish at will. He could turn water to wine and feed a crowd with a child's lunch.
But as someone who isn't an ordained priest, you can not follow a priest's life as an example to live yours. That's the whole point. Also, according to 1 Timothy 2:5, you don't need a priest to bring you to God. You can already do that through prayer.
But Jesus suffered through that, so we wouldnt have to. You shouldnt, many of these guys are so horny they end up sinning in the most dreadful ways, that are secret and often comes out decades later.
So Mark Driscoll - how would your faithful Catholic grandmother who dedicated her life to the church and was so devout she needed keys to the parish for daily prayer feel about your speech here??
As a former Protestant who converted to Catholicism...I've always admired the likes of Driscoll and Baucham. Event today, I continue to listen to them inspite of certain differences in doctrinal issues. That said I will agree to disagree on this matter with my Protestant brother in Christ. God bless Mark and keep up the good fight.
How in the world is a Catholic priest not building or responsible for anything? He operates as a leader in the church and as a leader to his congregation. He's responsible for the processions and bringing all those souls to Christ. Are we really going to act like the Jesus and the Apostles weren't both impoverished and were inspiring? The Apostle Paul was single and was primary in building and spreading the entire early church as we know it among the Gentiles. Jesus humbled himself into a life of hard work and poverty, and he made his ultimate sacrifice that we all well know. And he never married either. You don't need to be rich or married to make a legacy. I usually agree with what you say in your sermons, but this just fell so far off the mark - so disrespectful, shallow, and selfish. And I'm not even Catholic lol.
He's pointing out that men need examples to follow, and you can't follow the lives of Catholic priests unless you're going to be one. He's stating how most Protestant pastors are married and have children that Catholic priests do not have and cannot provide real-world guidance using Scripture from their first-hand experience.
@@JM-hn6vgas catholic men we have our fathers and other catholic men as our examples. Above all we have Christ as our example. Secondly St joseph was the manliest man who ever lived. They are our examples
Not even 30 seconds and there it goes, first misconception. Not all priests have vows of poverty. And those who do are simply following in the footsteps of Christ Himself.
@@HalleluYAH-b5d Jesus says to be like Him, and He also told the rich young man to sell his possessions. Not everyone is called to such extreme, but there’s nothing weird about it, and in fact it’s a sign of deep love for Jesus.
@@Adtheos Jesus said that not because he really required the rich man to sell his belongings, it was a test because he knew the man loved his possessions, it wasnt about the possessions as much as it was about his heart. Jesus often spoke in idioms and symbolism. Just as The Holy Spirit does even these days. Its ALWAYS a heart issue with Jesus, it not about appearances. Being poor does not move Jesus, He would rather we didnt suffer. After all, didnt He come to bring us life and life more abundantly? IM not saying to become covetous, like some false pastors either.
@@HalleluYAH-b5d Amen, I can definitely agree with that. The key thing is that parish priests do not take actually vows of poverty, and those priests (or brothers or nuns) that do, they do it as renunciation of the world for the love of Christ. And remember, no one forced them to do so. "There are some who, in their freedom as sons of God, renounce their own wills and take upon themselves the state of poverty. This is beyond the measure of the commandments, but is done in order to become more fully like the obedient Christ." (Lumen Gentium 42)
A diocesan priest (not part of a religious order like Benedictines or Franciscans) does not take a vow of poverty, only makes vows celibacy and obedience to his bishop. Driscoll despises Christ’s self sacrifice, remaining celibate, a total failure in the eyes of the world. As a Catholic, I follow Christ, not a bitter, twisted ex-Catholic. May God show him the error of his ways 🙏
as a blessed and unapologetic convert to the Catholic church, I would encourage you to dig deeper into church history ( beyond Luther) to the apostles read “Crossing the Tiber “ by Steve Ray
Our church actually wants you to learn about Jesus and the Bible. Works do not save you. Praying to false idols is blasphemy. Another man can not forgive you for your sins. Do Not call anyone Father but our Lord and Savior. Baby Baptism is a joke. And there's no such thing as purgatory. Ect.
Oh boy this is just terrible. St Paul tells us it is better for a man NOT to marry, but accepts marriage as a concession. The priest lives in poverty because he relies totally on God and the church to survive, he does not rely on material wealth. In this way he is totally dependant on God. Secondly, a married man worries about his wife and his children and his job and the mortgage and providing for his family. The priest is free of these distractions and his family is the community he lives in
Jesus is the priest that lived in chastity and poverty, so we dont have to. These men are trying to take over the role of Jesus as our priest and go-between us and God. The entire premise of this religion is a falacy, with its grains of paganism, covered with truth and visa versa. Im not saying there arent true Christians here, but the entire thing is based upon avoiding true salvation through grace alone, and placing alot of emphasis on works and ritual (man made)
He literally says its his "unbucket list" and he doesnt want to die a broke virgin at the church. Not the words of someone who appreciates the virtues of all men called to the service of God
Didn't God tell us in Genesis to be fruitful and multiply? Most priests don't actually live in poverty. The Catholic Church is one of the richest institutions in the world. There are literally guilded works of art all over the Vatican where the gold was strip mined from Central and South America. So if the priest is free of "distractions" then he has no real world insight or guidance for men who need real world insight or guidance?
This is absolutely true. About 10 years ago there was this exact observation discussed in Russia's Congress (Duma) and this point was brought up. The world notices this, but our American citizens fail to pass on the historical significance of these things to the new generations, that's why we have arrived to where 30 year olds LITERALLY throw toddler tantrums in stores because they can't find their favorite toothpaste.
The thumbnail of this video isnt a good example of speaking to your neighbor as yourself. The arrogant culture of america disqualifies it from being a spiritually respected nation like other nations.
And to add to this- a vow of simplicity (more common for the diocesan priests) and vows of poverty are beautiful things. Unlike Driscoll’s “if Jesus was here today he would drive a Ford Bronco” series 🥴
I have been listening to Mark for years. Huge influence in my life. This last year though, started studying history and the Church. I’ve been an evangelical my entire life, but am converting to the Catholic Church. I have NEVER met so many men that love Jesus, love their families, and are STRONG in their faith. It’s been sooo REFRESHING. I haven’t experienced such manliness in the mega churches, where sadly, people are being served left and right, and not standing up for anything. Love Mark and love my Protestant brothers. But love ‘coming home’ to Jesus’ church! Blessings.
What are your thoughts on the pope and other anti biblical doctrines of the Catholic Church? For example, Confession to a Priest, Priests Forbidden to Marry, The use of titles (A Cardinal is "Your Eminence," an Archbishop is "Your Excellency," and a priest is "Father” or Holy Father.” All of these titles are completely unscriptural.) Their Focus on Mary, the Immaculate Conception, Perpetual virginity of Mary, Mary as Co-redeemer, Assumption of Mary, Emphasis on Relics, Days and years, Emphasis on Saints, Teaching on Purgatory, Infant Baptism, and other Traditions of Men?
Ok but why would you do that? Jesus clearly said we should worship only God, but catholics worship saints. Just use the word "veneration" doesnt change the nature of worship. Jesus told us to preach not using repetitive mantras, but catholics do that. Jesus told us to not call anyone "father", the Bible tells us that Christ is the head of the church and the Holy Ghost is the one that could be considered as a "substitute" for Christ (though the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit are one). But catholics say that the pope is the "holy father", the head of tge church and tge substitute for Christ. If you didnt like megachurches go to a smaller one. There are good and bad churches.
Catholic church was not set up by Jesus. It was set up 300 years after the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ by emperor Constantine. It is Emperor Constantine's church. If you are going to study catholic church history then do yourself a favor and take a deep dive into how Constantine used pagan temples and clergy that already controlled the masses and converted them to a "new catholic church". Constantine was a pagan worshipping emperor before "converting" to "christianity". Sad and true thing is, that he allowed and kept all the idols and statues that were previously worshipped as pagan god's in the temples. You can tour many of the ancient churches in Rome today and they still openly admit the cathedrals were originally built as pagan temples and many of the statues were dedicated to previous pagan deities. He then changed the name on the statues to represent "saints". The pagan's were huge into worshipping female god's as well. So in order to satisfy the "converting" pagan's desire for a female deity, they put Mary's name on the statues and began elevating her status to that of a deity. Constantine also kept pagan leaders in high places of control and this is how you get some of the strange outfits, strange staffs, rods, jewelry, and hats that look like what the previous pagan leaders wore. Ask yourself why the catholic bible has changed the original 10 commandments? specifically the verse that has to do with the making and worshipping of idols. You will find that command has been removed from the catholic bible. Look up the King James version of Exodus 20:3-5. It will not match your catholic bible. Study the time period of the catholic churches "inquisition period" where they burned Jesus Loving Christians at the stake. Especially look up William Tyndale whose major crime was translating the Bible from Hebrew and Greek into English. The Catholic church said it was heresy for the common man to be able to read the Bible for himself, that that power was only allowed for Catholic Clergy to control the masses. William Tyndale was an amazing man of God, scholar, and dedicated evangelist that was burned at the stake by the Catholic Church for bringing God's word to the english speaking people. That is the history of the church you should be studying before you "go home". We as disciples of Jesus Christ have become children of God. Through the blood of the lamb we have been purchased, forgiven, and now have authority, through the name of Jesus, to come boldly to the throne of Grace and speak with our Heavenly Father. There is only one Mediator and that is Jesus Christ... I have a feeling you love Jesus, just be careful not to be deceived by your new "home" that you need more than just Jesus to be saved and for your prayers to be heard. Priests, bishops, and even the Pope are just sinful men dressing up like spiritual leaders. Do not look to them, but look to the word of God and keep your eyes on Jesus, not on sinful men. The truth shall set us free.
"And every one who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my name’s sake, will receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life." Matt. 19:29
I don't think this was primarily a dig at present day roman catholics, although the title of the video would make you assume so. The context of the protestants he was talking about was early post reformation. he also was noting how protestantism had fallen prey to its own success and had become the unhealthy sort of society that perhaps pre-reformation catholicism experienced. But I agree, the distinction wasn't there and the title of the video immediately makes you think he's attacking modern roman catholics, which I don't believe was the intent.
Wow! Sadly, this was very shallow, uninformed, and just erroneous top to bottom. There were so many errors, strawmen statements, and, insulting assumptions that weren't true. Very sad.
This is the problem with social media videos. Anyone, like Mark, can say what they want about scripture and church history and there will always be some measure of people which acquiesce without question. I believe Mark loves Christ but he’s not in His Church. No way. He should really debate Catholic apologists publicly if he’s going to say the kind of things he does. Also, happy he’s focusing on dying rich and not a virgin 🤦♂️, definitely scriptural.
It is actually amazing how ignorant the opening sentences are. Priests do not make a vow of poverty and every Christian should live chastely- so he clearly doesn't know what the word chaste means. A pastor just said he doesn't want to live chastely... and expected people to laugh, whilst mocking another church. I am so glad I am Catholic and we have a centralized teaching body so someone can't just get up and say whatever they like.

Mark, I can’t believe a self proclaimed follower of Christ would say all this. Priests live a life of chastity, humility and servitude to be a Christlike example for all. This has been going on since the time of the Hebrews in the OT. Why would you speak so uncharitable about men who commit their lives to Christ and become Holy. They are responsible to the entire spiritual leadership of the parish and all the families. They inspire us to be Holy and become saints in the likeness of Christ in our journey to Heaven . Second, Tocqueville was a liberal and followed Marx. He was an entitled noble who marveled at the US prosperity. While his point about our founding fathers genius in basing the constitution on religious freedom and human liberty, he wasn’t a fan of them or us. Using Protestantism as example of hard work and giving the reformation any credit is to me a slap in the face to God’s one, holy, Catholic and apostolic church. There are tons of other reasons for US success as a people and the most important one is Gods grace and the natural law of God which is what the constitution is based on. Jesus, the Apostles, their disciples and so on based the entire faith on human natural law and the moral commandments of God the father and Christ See Tim Gordon’s Catholic republic. He is a pope hater and disloyal to the church as well but the book is spot on that the US was created by God and our prosperity comes from Him. Before it’s to late, please turn back from becoming ajust another non-Catholic pastor that violates Christs teaching by disparaging others commitment to Christ. We wouldn’t do that to you and your shouldn’t do it to us as Catholics.
The Reformation actually helped the Catholic Church get somewhat back on track. Do you see priests selling indulgences to people so they can get into heaven? Do you see the Pope raising armies to fight other Catholics, Orthodox Christians, or Muslims in Israel? Also, Protestants have a problem with the Pope, who's the supposed Vicar of Christ, but he was born of two sinful humans, and voted in by a college of cardinals by secret means. This current Pope also preaches apostasy, but he's supposed to represent Christ and be the head of all priests?
@maddiec6186 was that before or after the selling of indulgences or the Pope raising armies to kill other Catholics, Orthodox Christians, and Muslims in Israel?
@maddiec6186 No, its based on a book inspired by The Holy Spirit through 66 Hebrew men from ancient times, long before the catholic church was cooked up. The catholic church thought so highly of themselves they decided what it would be like, but ended changing their own version so they could better control their own masses.
@maddiec6186 the Council of Trent would disagree with you. There are 66 books divinely inspired, the other Apocrypha that are included in the Vulgate are not divinely inspired.

Jesus is not a bad role model, one needs to understand what He was acheiving for us. He asks us to be like Him, yes, but not in the sense of being poor or chaste. He was those things so we dont have to be. Jesus wants us to be humble and gentle, like He is. Paul however, I personally suspect as an ex-pharisee, had a low esteem for women generally and it shows in his letters and descriptions of what "he thinks" the churches should follow. This is not God inspired scripture. Otherwise what about the judge in Judges book, Deborah? She was instilled into this role by God Himself. I dont think we should be emulating ANY man, other than Jesus, and not in these areas either.

Mark, it's true that being hard working is good, but we must also remember that we are not citizens of this fallen world, but we are citizens of heaven. In heaven there's going to be no capitalism. It's going to be a kingdom. And our king will be Jesus. So the Christian is called to be hard working, that's true, but the ultimate aim is to become sanctified by the Holy Spirit and ready for heaven, so when we meet Jesus we are white as snow, with no sign of sin on us. We should be very careful about trying to fix this world, or lead it. We are not supposed to fix this world, we are supposed to wait for our savior to take us out of here. We are supposed to wait for our savior to give us our glorified bodies and rid us of this sinful body. In the meantime we can help as many people as we can, love even the unlovable, forgive people when they hurt us, and prove that we are true children of God. There is a fight in us, flesh vs spirit. And our main aim should be to let Jesus lead us into the light, and kill our flesh. Kill all our egoistical instincts and transform us into a being so pure that transcends our flesh. This is what the saints have managed to do through the grace of God, and we should be aiming to achieve that too.

oh so he wants to live for himself wordily riches and be dammed the Gifts of the lord the prosperity pimp says 🤦♂🤦♂ Celibacy is Church Practice, Not Dogma Matt. 19:11-12 - Jesus says celibacy is a gift from God and whoever can bear it should bear it. Jesus praises and recommends celibacy for full-time ministers in the Church. Because celibacy is a gift from God, those who criticize the Church’s practice of celibacy are criticizing God and this wonderful gift He bestows on His chosen ones. Matt. 19:29 - Jesus says that whoever gives up children for the sake of His name will receive a hundred times more and will inherit eternal life. Jesus praises celibacy when it is done for the sake of His kingdom. Matt. 22:30 - Jesus explains that in heaven there are no marriages. To bring about Jesus’ kingdom on earth, priests live the heavenly consecration to God by not taking a wife in marriage. This way, priests are able to focus exclusively on the spiritual family, and not have any additional pressures of the biological family (which is for the vocation of marriage). This also makes it easier for priests to be transferred to different parishes where they are most needed without having to worry about the impact of their transfer on wife and children. 1 Cor 7:1 - Paul teaches that it is well for a man not to touch a woman. This is the choice that the Catholic priests of the Roman rite freely make. 1 Cor. 7:7 - Paul also acknowledges that celibacy is a gift from God and wishes that all were celibate like he is. 1 Cor. 7:27 - Paul teaches men that they should not seek marriage. In Paul’s opinion, marriage introduces worldly temptations that can interfere with one’s relationship with God, specifically regarding those who will become full-time ministers in the Church. 1 Cor. 7:32-33, 38 - Paul recommends celibacy for full-time ministers in the Church so that they are able to focus entirely upon God and building up His kingdom. He “who refrains from marriage will do better.” 1 Tim. 3:2 - Paul instructs that bishops must be married only once. Many Protestants use this verse to prove that the Church’s celibacy law is in error. But they are mistaken because this verse refers to bishops that were widowers. Paul is instructing that these widowers could not remarry. The verse also refers to those bishops who were currently married. They also could not remarry (in the Catholic Church’s Eastern rite, priests are allowed to marry; celibacy is only a disciplinary rule for the clergy of the Roman rite). Therefore, this text has nothing to do with imposing a marriage requirement on becoming a bishop. 1 Tim. 4:3 - in this verse, Paul refers to deceitful doctrines that forbid marriage. Many non-Catholics also use this verse to impugn the Church’s practice of celibacy. This is entirely misguided because the Catholic Church (unlike many Protestant churches) exalts marriage to a sacrament. In fact, marriage is elevated to a sacrament, but consecrated virginity is not. The Church declares marriage sacred, covenantal and lifegiving. Paul is referring to doctrines that forbid marriage and other goods when done outside the teaching of Christ and for a lessor good. Celibacy is an act of giving up one good (marriage and children) for a greater good (complete spiritual union with God). 1 Tim. 5:9-12 - Paul recommends that older widows take a pledge of celibacy. This was the beginning of women religious orders. 2 Tim. 2:3-4 - Paul instructs his bishop Timothy that no soldier on service gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim his to satisfy the One who enlisted him. Paul is using an analogy to describe the role of the celibate priesthood in the Church. Rev. 14:4 - unlike our sinful world of the flesh, in heaven, those consecrated to virginity are honored. Isaiah 56:3-7 - the eunuchs who keep God’s covenant will have a special place in the kingdom of heaven. Jer. 16:1-4 - Jeremiah is told by God not to take a wife or have children.😢😢

Right totally agree, I like you mark but you are following the love of mammon and not the church.. Simcerely you want to be rich. Christ teaching us an exact opposite of that, he says to leave everything you have and come follow me…..
You should have a debate with Trent Horn or Jimmy Akin. It’s funny you talk about poverty and chastity when scripture talks about the apostles living as eunuchs????? This is biblical ! Dude Christ was chaste and lived poverty! Wait who wants to live like Christ ?
I think you’re confusing, conflating, the influence of St John of the Cross plus Devotion to Mary with the rest of Catholicism. Of course, those two things are pretty pervasive in the RCC, so it’s probably fair to accuse RCC men of being too effeminate. But it’s not Catholicism that causes the problem but the feminine (and prominent) themes of Catholic culture that are the problem.
So Mark was raised Catholic? This is the second video where he shows he is either painfully ignorant or a liar. With his record and the types of “pastors” he runs with i think it’s safe to say he is a liar.
I was hoping that it would be full of Bible verses, proving that God is in favor of a free market economy, where people own property and buy, and sell really, which is throughout the Bible by the way. This whole sermon series is it just him being angry and gnashing and lashing out. I mean there’s obviously some good points in there, and I’m not saying that the good parts are not correct, but there’s a lot of stuff that’s from his soul and emotion instead of from God.
The one thing that has turned me away from Catholicism is the idolatry. You are worshipping saints and priests instead of the lord. Complete opposite of the Bible’s teachings and if you go back into the history, it was the Roman empires way of controlling the world and riddled with paganism. Hence the idolism.
Catholics worship ONLY the Triune God. It is truly shameful how bigoted and ignorant many of you are regarding Catholic teachings. Judge with right understanding.
People don't leave the Catholic church because of what it stands for. They leave the Catholic church because if what they THINK it stands for - Fulton Sheen.
@@mikegski7943 Yes, there's alot of confusion to be a catholic, like "are my sins really forgiven?" For those who don't know, an Orthodox priest is strongly encouraged to marry and have children so they can model how to build a family. The main reason Catholic priests are celibate is that in the middle ages many rich men became priests, and the church wanted to ensure that when they died their land and wealth would belong to the church rather than to their children.
🤡 you are indoctrinated. Catholicism is one of the main roots of evil in this world today. Get out while you still can. Everything you worship is a joke. Good luck and God Bless. This is coming from someone who grew up and went to Catholic school.

Catholics believe that Mary was immaculately conceived. They believe she never consummated her marriage to Joseph after the birth of Jesus. They believe that Mary never died and never corrupted and was taken up into heaven like Elijah or Enoch. Praying to Mary, praying to saints...why do you confess to a priest your sins who ten tell you to say 10 hail Mary's 10 our fathers...if you sin, repent to Jesus. His blood is sufficient. No other concessions necessary. Catholics have added to the word of God by these beliefs and turning Mary into a diety, taking away focus from Jesus the only path to salvation. Him alone. His resurrection alone is our hope. Not some shin bone of some dead guy.
Literally everything you said about Catholicism is wrong and you are just spouting typical nonsense that Protestants hear from other uneducated Protestants. How about actually speaking to a Catholic or going to Catholic Church to visit? Or pick up a Catechism, the book that reflects the teachings of the church and where in the Bible you can find where and why they believe what they believe
Catholics don’t worship Mary. We believe in one God, the Holy Trinity- the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. And we only worship Him. Every Catholic will tell you that. You choose not to believe Catholics about their own faith- the very faith from which yours has sprung. There are no secret meetings or teachings where we all worship Mary and hide it, lol. We have reverence for Mary, as the mother of our Lord Jesus Christ and try to love her as Jesus did. We could never love Mary as much as Jesus did. So what is the issue? If asking Mary and the saints to pray for us is wrong, then why would you ask a loved one or friend to pray for you?
@sinead2264 my faith did not spring from catholicism, the church of Acts is not your faith. Your faith is the pagan Roman's perverting the word of God and absorbing the faith movement that they couldn't kill with lions or torture. They needed to win the pagans over so mary replaced their goddess. Jesus regarded his mother as less important than the people he was around in the house, his brothers and sisters in the faith, and so should you. You pray TO saints to find things etc. They aren't praying for you. You never met them. There is no example of this in the Bible. Do you believe mary died? Your faith doesn't. Do you believe the pope infallible? You faith does. Do you believe you can cure ailments by rubbing old shin bones of ancient dead guys?
Glory to Jesus Christ! Thank you Mark for providing a clear example to NOT follow, and pointing us all to the meekness and humility of our Mother Church. The ONE, HOLY, CATHOLIC and APOSTOLIC CHURCH!
Wild take. Good luck sir. A man dedicating his entire life to God to me is amazing.
👍
Like saying that following the example of Jesus Himself or Paul is something bad...

Yes, this Pastor did not make sense with the Catholic argument. People have a choice. He need to make a better argument.

“The unmarried man is anxious about the things of the Lord-how he may please the Lord; But the married man is anxious about worldly matters-how he may please his wife- And he is drawn in diverging directions [his interests are divided and he is distracted from his devotion to God]. And the unmarried woman or girl is concerned and anxious about the matters of the Lord, how to be wholly separated and set apart in body and spirit; but the married woman has her cares [centered] in earthly affairs-how she may please her husband. Jesus is the lamb the tender branch that was cut down in the prime of his life to take upon himself our penalties. By you telling everyone to specifically imitate that aspect you are hurting the society God was building. God called Jesus to this work not you. You are not an atonement sacrifice for anyone.
Hello, I have a friend who has yet to find a Catholic church to call home in the Scottsdale area, can you recommend one? Thank you and God bless.

Yeah. The pedophiles definitely have it better.
You’re not grasping the entirety of scripture which is why Protestants left the Catholics.

Good work, my fellow Catholic 🙏
@@OzCrusader thank you, you too 🙏💕
You know what Jesus was… a broke virgin. I love and admire good Catholic priests!

Im not saying there arent true Christians here, but the entire thing is based upon avoiding true salvation through grace alone, and placing alot of emphasis on works and ritual (man made)
He doesn't say that. He explicitly acknowledges different people have different callings and none of them are objectively better than the other.
He literally says its his "unbucket list" and he doesnt want to die a broke virgin at the church.
Not the words of someone who appreciates the virtues of all men called to the service of God
@@HalleluYAH-b5dwhere in the bible does it says Christ lived in poverty and chastity so we dont have to?

St. Paul was impoverish and celibate.
Many great men and women in Christ’s early Church was also impoverish and celibate.
Chastity does not mean virginity necessarily either. Got that wrong too
Wow! Sadly, this was very shallow, uninformed, and just erroneous top to bottom. There were so many errors, strawmen statements, and, insulting assumptions that weren't true. Very sad.
Well said Bryan🙏
This is what’s called pejoratively “the prosperity gospel”.
I have been to a variety of churches I felt the Catholic's were more understanding then the other churches

@@wreckingcrew07 during mass you open the Bible to passages that the priest goes over and emphasizes? The priest explains what the Bible verses mean and how they are applied to your life? He’s implying that to be a MAN man, you have to have a lot of sex and own a lot of stuff. That’s a pretty worldly, secular take. I’d say to be a MAN man, you need to be godly and a leader. Which are the two main qualities in priests… I’m Protestant and I can see that.
What would be your religion if you hadn’t stole it from the latins ?
Jesus, the Apostles, their disciples and so on based the entire faith on human natural law and the moral commandments of God the father and Christ
See Tim Gordon’s Catholic republic.
They are Catholic. Not Christian.
Mr. Driscoll often has some good points, but he falls short on this one. Jesus was poor financially and he was single. He was also meek.
Catholic church has Opus Dei which is a lay ministry devoted to coordinating ones work with Gods will and direction.
So Ephesians 2:8-9 doesn't apply?

@@mikegski7943 so are the works after being saved by grace considered a chore, or is it something that one wants to do freely because of being filled with the Holy Spirit?
@JM-hn6vg I believe you can lose your salvation if you choose not to feed it. Though they wouldn't be considered chores. We can choose with free will to love God as Jesus commanded by baptizing and proclaiming the gospel or not. Sometimes it's like going to the gym. I don't want to do it, but.out of love I choose to make myself do it. There is no chore list we have to do. But we have to cooperate with God's grace to grow in strength and wisdom for the.purpose He has created us for. We have to do something.

Catholic and protestant are not the only 2 categories. Independent Baptists are not protestant.
Anyone who protests against the Catholic church is called a protestant.
Of course all Baptists are Protestant. Baptists are an off-shoot of the Church of England (Anglicans). The Church of England was created during the Protestant Reformation in the 1500s. They were protesting the Catholic Church and left to make their own church.
Then 100 years later, people protested some more, and the Baptist church was created. Then in the late 1800s, your branch protested some more and became Independent Baptists.
All of this stems from protesting the Catholic Church, which makes you a Protestant.

Well if you was a Catholic how come you didn't mention anything about the Eucharist
Because taking communion doesn’t mean you know Christ. If you are forced to take it from family pressure in early years and forced to be confirmed it doesn’t mean you experienced Christ in the Eucharist.

Correct, a diocesan priest does not take a vow of poverty, only vows celibacy and obedience to his bishop.
There's married Priest in Eastern Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy. Our Priest works is married and has three children and is probably one of the most successful men I know. I agree in part with you but there are some non effeminate Latin Priest that I've known prior to their ordination they were farmers or firemen. There's also many lay apologist and Priest or Deacons saying the same things you are about work and a Biblical model for family life with the men as the spiritual leader and protector and provider of the family.
The priest at my parish served in the military for 10 years before being called to the Priesthood
Yeah, Eastern Orthodox men have a pretty masculine reputation.
"some non effeminate Latin Priest..." You did research about this topic? NOT!
I really like Catholic Truth's response to this video. >>>>Pastor Mark Driscoll INSULTS Catholic Priests (Gets DEBUNKED!).... "Pastor" Mark Driscoll said Catholic priests are not healthy men because they don't have a family and don't create anything? Really? We take these childish insults to task.
Jesus and Paul were such a bad role models, chaste and poor.
He's referring to priests who have no wife, no children, and no household. How can regular men possibly follow a priest's life as an example to live by?
It doesn’t matter if you are Catholic or Protestant, just believe in God and talk to Him everyday and thank Him always everyday for the blessings in life ask Him to help you.

1 Corinthians 7:7 For I would prefer it if you were all like myself. But each person has his proper gift from God: one in this way, yet another in that way.
1 Corinthians 7:8 But I say to the unmarried and to widows: It is good for them, if they would remain as they are, just as I also am.
I guess mr driscoll forgets ST PAUL was A broke virgin god forbid we ever follow St. Paul’s advice
Well stated!

Celibacy is Church Practice, Not Dogma
Matt.
He “who refrains from marriage will do better.”
1 Tim.

For those who don't know, an Orthodox priest is strongly encouraged to marry and have children so they can model how to build a family.
The main reason Catholic priests are celibate is that in the middle ages many rich men became priests, and the church wanted to ensure that when they died their land and wealth would belong to the church rather than to their children.

This guy is everything wrong with modern American churches. So cringe. Read your Bible and pray quietly, avoid loud "celebrity" pastors.
