Hi, I wanted to let you know I brought my Moducase's after watching one of your videos, and your instruction videos on how to build them were so helpful. I just want to say what you're doing is very helpful to your fellow collectors. Sorry I have commented sooner. Thanks. PS, Hopefully Brian lets you keep that cabinet for all you do for his company
Too bad Moduspace can't get their act together and ship product in a timely manner. Wait times are unacceptable. They should contract their regular stuff out, since they can't seem to fill orders in a respectable time frame.
I’m in on this for some one-off figs. Some people might see it as bulky looking but as someone who keeps all non-sixth scale collectibles in Billy’s w/ Doors, I’m used to that look and prefer it tbh. Also my biggest thing is the shelf weight as Detolfs always scared me with those limits.
This case looks OK, but toe the price is ridiculous, especially when you factor in the time it takes for the shipping of their current stuff. If they're looking to get into the gap that the Detolf left in the market they need to reduce the price significantly. The reason Detolfs were so popular was the affordability. This case should be $200, including shipping as a maximum!
I agree puttin it above 200 is rough. I get the perks it comes with & all but for that price I rather get a sixth110 & could probably fit way more in it then this. Great idea, great video, great information. But if your gonna compete with detolfs it shouldnt be priced too much. IMO !! I’m probably still gonna buy them tho love the concept.
Great breakdown and review, man! I like the shipping time frame with this product and even though there are a few issues with it, I could see me getting 1 of these just to display some figures on a rotating basis. I like that you are honest and give your take both positive and negative, helps people make a good decision! Plus your feedback will help make a better product down the line! Great job, man!
Hey Justin! Thanks for watching dude! I appreciate the feedback. I def try to be honest but fact is I love the product lol. I’m excited for moduspace to put the finishing touches on these and roll them out!
This announcement from Moduspace was a pleasant surprise. Great review and answered quite a few of the questions I had. I think these are a great option to change up display option or to isolate a curated type display.
Moduspace is a small company that has a high demand, this leads to longer wait times. Bryan is doing what he can to accommodate but can only do so much. I’ve had 3 back half shelves on order since July that I’m still waiting for as well.
Awesome review video! Very insightful good sir. Yes, I completely agree with everything you said, especially the $220 price point. It it will be at that price point, I definitely could see a lot of collectors jumping at this. Even collectors that are tight on their budget, would just buy a couple and then a few more later on. Plus that shipping price is definitely very tempting to all of us collectors. Thanks for sharing. Much appreciated.
Yeeeaaah. Having seen this, and not having all the time in the world to finagle something together, This case seems like a better deal to the ikea cases. Glad I haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Looking forward to the updated version of this releasing. What you said about the lighting has me hoping that it is toned down in the future. No one wants to be blinded. :( great review. Thank you!
Hey dude! Awesome review! I was just wondering if you think the top of the Mono would be able to support a statue around 30-40lbs? I was thinking I could really save space with these by putting two statues I have on the top of a couple Monos and my figures within. Thanks for your review and input!
This is what I have been waiting for. I don't need the huge the Moducase set up. I like the one to two figure(s) per shelf; nice simple and clean look.
Great video building process doesn’t seem to bad actually looking forward to seeing the final product I think they look great sleek and would definitely pick up a case or two but overall if you’ve got a big collection the bigger cases are still the way to go!
I really like this, given that this is Moducase so I know what I'm getting into...and I never went the Detolf route, I waited patiently for my Moducases. I think these would be great for displaying my Gandalf and Aragorn (and Paul Atreides!) once they finally arrive. It really could use a felted bottom shelf to cover up the wire channels. The adjustable shelves have so much potential, and you can put heavier items on them than the Detolf glass shelves! Very cool review Graeme!
Thank you for watching, my friend. And thanks for the feedback! I reached out to Bryan about either flipping the back panel to the channels are at the top or just notching out the bottom and the top, but either way I think you are right, they should be more hidden.
The price point for this Mono w/ wooden felt boards is a bit off the mark for me. The Mono needed to have the clear plexi/acrylic shelves right out of the gate at this targeted price point of $220. Glad they will have the option in the future but that's an added cost which puts you at/over $300 for one case since the add-on will most likely be $50-$75 w/o shipping. As it stands, this is about $75 overpriced and needed to be in the $150 region. The bezels around the front of the case are also an eyesore and appear to be thicker than standard moducases. These should've been slimmer to blend in w/ the rest of the moducases so you can see more of the figures. Adjusting the shelves may be my biggest gripe. Not improving on this system and forcing collectors to have to try and balance each shelf on their own is mind-boggling to me. The design team needs to figure out a way that allows for the customizability of adjusting the shelves but without the trauma of having to balance them for 30 minutes or sometimes an hour. Have small notches/divots inside of the aluminum rails that sit every few millimeters (i.e., 10 mm) or so that would allow you to key in when tightening the screws. I'll have to wait on these until Mono 2.0s come out with more benefits and improvements as early adopters normally tend to take on a lot of the shortcomings of a product.
My issue is the Mono is not very appealing to the eyes. When you look at someone's collection, your eyes immediately go to the display case. That's what makes or breaks a collection for me. The Bezels are straight up ugly and too thick. The shelves are not see through so you lose visibility which at least the blaliden has both. This doesn't even compare to the Detolfs so if you already have them then no point in upgrading to these. The price point is a bit silly. $245 shipped no thanks. They had a chance to do something great now that the Detolfs are gone but imo they missed the mark completely in terms or design and price.
I can totally understand some thinking the bevels are a bit too wide. I looked at them and if they were thinner the lights would be shown through the front.
Great video! Perhaps if Moduspace could pre-drill screw holes a couple inches apart on each of the pillars that support the shelf? Inherently, by doing so it may add to the cost somewhat but it would also provide an opportunity to reach a larger audience with an additional value for consumers who don't have the time, talent, or desire to measure and drill on their own. 200 units seems quite low for an introductory launch, IMO. This may negatively impact the selling price. Economies of scale would potentially reduce the production costs if Moduspace is looking make this cabinet an affordable option for the hobby. Looking forward to seeing revisions to the cabinet!
Thanks for watching and for your feedback! Unfortunately with the way these are assembled there wouldn’t be a way to pre drill holes for the shelves. I think anyone can install them but it just takes time. The price will be $200 for each case plus shipping. Once Moduspace sends me updated parts I will be doing another video showing the modifications!
Great video. I just upgraded my detolfs with the luke lights and I could see maybe upgrading to these next year. I do like the lights on the side and then the options for the shelves being solid pieces and the felt option is great for some anime figures i have. I do think the price is worth it considering the costs to upgrade detolf lighting and dustproofing. The backing is nice becase thats one less panel to clean lol. My biggest gripes would be adjusting the shelves heights. Wish it had notches that were already in place so no measuring and leveling would be involved. And then the bezels, i hate losing visibility albiet a small loss, but its still very noticable. The bright lighting as you noted is a concern, but also the power, i wish they could be like Luke lights and be USB instead. Other than that great video!
Thanks for watching and for your feedback! Yeah adjusting the shelves suck but at least it’s possible lol. The bevels may be a little thick but I don’t feel they take away from the view of the figures unless you are at extreme angles. Can’t wait to see this finished product tho!
Definitely like these better than the detolf. I only have detolfs now and having to add the lights and dust proof them and the added pain of having to move with them is definitely not something I look forward to. Something like this as an all in one package, and more durable. Yeah I definitely like it a lot more. Great video!
I think the infinitely customizable shelves are underrated. This is definitely great for those oversized figures. Thanks for doing the comparisons with the Blaliden. I think both have their pros and cons, but I think many will appreciate the quality and convenience of these until we get more viable options
Agree 100%! I remember when I had detolfs and the pain of putting a thanos in there. Or the blalidens cutting off the tops of my predator figures. This will be nice because it won’t handcuff you into not being able to get a carnage for example. Thanks for watching and for the feedback!
I think doing a video at just the sheer volume of what these cases can hold would be a great video, like a serious breakdown of the fact that one of these display cases can hold SO MUCH. Cus I wanna get one as I just got done helping my family pay off their house and a few other things so I don't have much money tied up into really anything as I used to and got money to burn on hobbies, I just wanna see how much I can truly fit in just one of these case.
It depends how you want your collection to look. Most would say 1-2 per shelf would look best but you could get away with 3 before it starts to get crowded.
@@thejediknightswatch I mean I mostly have Banpresto and Diamond Select figures, they are really small, so I could probably fit a lot more figure in there. I don
That Mono looks really good. I could actually get it before my Moducase order. I need more shelves!! My Moducase order got delayed a lot. Great review Graeme! Be prepared for me to reach out to you...The Moducase Build King...after I finally get my Moducase order.
Great Review. The main downside I see is decreased visibility up and down and from the side. They do look nice and would be best for when the viewing angle is going to consistently be straight ahead and a few feet away.
Good review. I don’t like the look of the bottom shelf how the wire management channel protrudes from the floor. It decreases the bottom shelf surface space as well. I would suggest indents on the bottom shelf to insert the wires into and then have plastic inserts to snap on top so the bottom shelf is more flush.
I thought about it after and wondered if I flipped the back panel so the holes were in the top and that ran the channel on the ceiling like the cases. Maybe in the future!
Given the dimensions, to me it makes more sense to compare it against the Detolf, not the Blalidien, even though Detolf is dead and buried. Compared to Detolf the shelves look to be deeper, but not as wide. Fairly minor but does mean some larger figures won't fit. The shelf height being adjustable is a huge bonus, plus the higher weight tolerance and not having to worry about whether Ikea had crap welds on the inner metal frame. I don't like the shelves personally. I think the felt / laminate approach looks great for Moducase but Moducases tend to be a bit bigger, the issue here is that the shelves being opaque means you can't see the stuff lower down as easily unless you crouch. It sounds like they will have a plexiglass shelf option, but if that means having to buy extra plexi shelves that's a non-starter IMO, if you can customize the case to include plexiglass shelves for same or similar price point that seems more reasonable. I *really* don't like the lighting setup. I've seen a lot of people do this with LED strips in Detolf cabinets and don't like how this looks there either. I think one of the reasons you feel like the lights are too bright, is because of the fact that being all the way down each side makes it feel like there is a spotlight being shone directly onto the figure from the front, which results in unnatural shadowing etc. In comparison your Blaliden Luke Light setup and your Moducase setup has the figures lit from above at a 45 degree angle, which is always going to look more natural, result in natural shadowing and so on. Generally we view the world lit from above, not from the front, unless you go around wearing a headlamp, which is the effect you get from having the strips on either side of the case. So for me if this was the only lighting option, I'd be throwing their lighting solution away and building my own (or seeing if I could adapt a Luke Light setup with smaller channels to handle the fact the shelves aren't as wide) and that would personally make these fairly uneconomical. But also personally I don't think I am the target market for this product any more, as I own 4x Detolfs (have had for the better part of 15 years now) which are properly lit and so on, and these would be at best a sidegrade. I am instead looking at upgrading to a proper moducase setup. If I was new into collecting though, these would seem like a really good option to me. Blaliden is just terrible from what I've seen, cheap and nasty, flimsy metal frames, huge gaps, way too small for most collectors. As a replacement for the venerable Detolf, it's a failure IMO. But that's now the absolute bottom end for a new collector. Your other options would be to go up to the larger Milsbo (which is generally a better built cabinet but has some issues), find used or new-old-stock Detolfs, or buy a Chinese Drop-shipped Detolf Knockoff from Amazon, and the latter often tend to run into same sort of cost as this new MONO if not actually a bit higher at times, for some pretty sus build quality often too - I often see people with Amazon glass displays where the shelves are held up by pins that are literally just drilled through the sides of the glass of the cabinet, which to me seems very dangerous, like a collapse and complete destruction of a collection just waiting to happen. When compared against a Detolf, the old price they were $130 US. Factor in weather stripping and say a Luke Lights kit with the channels and that's another $67, plus a roll of double-sided adhesive tape, plus weather stripping and that's pushing into the $220 price point easily. Blaliden has the price edge significantly, but still so many compromises. Plus as you mentioned, you get everything you need in the box. It's not perfect but to me these look like the *actual* successor to the Detolf for figure collectors.
It astounds me that he’s putting more $ into R&D for new cases than solving the problem of how to decrease delivery times. I ordered moducases in Dec 2022 and still haven’t received them and that is simply too long. This is the second round of cases I bought from moduspace and it is taking LONGER than the first round I bought. This is not acceptable.
@@thejediknightswatch they’re saying it's just the standard holdup of orders but that’s not acceptable. Again, new products are great, but he really should be focusing on getting these wait times down. I don’t know of any other product that takes 16 months+ to get delivered. And this is after he announced the new efforts he was making in shortening delivery times, and like I said, the second round is actually taking longer than my first round and the first round took over a year. 😡
I definitely like the look of the new Mono cases. Price is too steep though when compared to just buying Moducases. I'm still looking to upgrade from my Detolfs but considering I have less than 20 figures, still not convinced I need to spend the money
With the weight limit and lights built in, this would be an instant buy for me if the inner shelf dimensions were just a few inches bigger. Between Detolfs, Blaliden, and now the Mono, seems like no reasonably priced glass "curio" on the Earth will ever be made that can fit Vader helmets. So the ultimate Star Wars helmet tower still can't be achieved easily.
Im willing to give these a try they look pretty nice as long as shipping is greatly approved... its been quite some time and i still dont have my first moducase order..(i knew the wait going into it so not complaining just sayin)
If your going single cabinets Billy Bookcase gets my vote have adjustable shelving and the height advantage to fit in bigger figures like Hulk more stylish as well imo
Sure I guess you could look at it that way. I see it as an alternative for those with small collections or small spaces. Detolfs were very popular so they are trying to gravitate towards that market as well.
As a collector that has 100 plus figures this is really isn’t an option for me especially with the price $245 maybe if it was 200$ but what really hurts is shipping time of moducase.
They have a lot of fancy names for the shelves that is kind of the same thing only thing is not made entirely out of glass which I prefer for beauty wise it looks nice but it's not really something that I would personally use for collecting figures don't get me wrong I think having a whole bunch of them and having one or two in each Shelf looks like a very nice display but I prefer something more larger to put everything in one show I would use something like this if it was big enough to put WWE Championships on display then figures the personally but I don't know if that would be big enough or will they have different sizes in this
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Stryker! I agree that if I had to choose I still prefer cases, but this may appeal to those with smaller collections or this with small areas. We will see
Sadly is a third-party transformer collector. Don’t think this would work for me. I don’t even think I could put the Titans in there when they stand 20 to 22 inches tall with the combiners it’s just gonna this is more for hot toys or Legos and it would be for anything else.
Honestly, this looks much better than the Detolf, IMO. It looks more upscale to me. Like you said, more of a "cabinet" than a case. I like that each shelf is more of a feature of interest. These will be beautiful with multiple side by side and once they can tame the lighting situation. As far as the pending price...well it is what it is and I'm learning that the nicer you go, the exponentially higher the cost gets. We'd LOVE to pay nothing for something but unfortunately that isn't the case in reality. PUN
To each their own but I’ve owned both detolfs and the mono and I can say the mono is built 10x better. Detolfs were loved by collectors and now that they are discontinued I’m sure a large number of collectors would jump at this.

True true. I think in certain situations they will be great.
@@thejediknightswatch Agree. I think they would look good bookending an entertainment center.
Have you seen the new 'lumina case' on kick starter. Only a few days left. If they can sort the sizing out it will surly be a contender for moducase
I haven’t. I’ll have to check it out👍🏻
Good review.
Hey thanks for watching and for the feedback!
Sorry to hear that my friend. I'm assuming you've reached out to them to see what the hold up is?
Totally understand my friend. Thanks for watching!
Nothing will ever beat the $60 Detoff
With the weight limit and lights built in, this would be an instant buy for me if the inner shelf dimensions were just a few inches bigger. Between Detolfs, Blaliden, and now the Mono, seems like no reasonably priced glass "curio" on the Earth will ever be made that can fit Vader helmets. So the ultimate Star Wars helmet tower still can't be achieved easily.
Yeah this is def made for smaller items but you could get moducases for helmets.
Im willing to give these a try they look pretty nice as long as shipping is greatly approved... its been quite some time and i still dont have my first moducase order..(i knew the wait going into it so not complaining just sayin)
I get it. Its tough waiting so long. I hope yours arrive soon! You will love them.
If your going single cabinets Billy Bookcase gets my vote have adjustable shelving and the height advantage to fit in bigger figures like Hulk more stylish as well imo
Yeah man, no worries it’s good to have options!
@@thejediknightswatch 100% never hurts to have more choice
Seems more like a special use case only. Maybe one or two for a small space. Any more than that just purchase the Moducases. Great video!
Thanks for watching Chris. I agree with you. Its a nice change of pace, but I still prefer the cases.
Great video and review
Thank you Chris! Appreciate the support! You plan on getting this mono?
@@thejediknightswatch yes I might it looks cool 👍
I’ll probably consider this.
You really should. It would be great next to your moducases.
@@thejediknightswatch
It’s not bad, it’s a nice option. I need to upgrade my cases.
What are you using right now?
@@thejediknightswatch 4 detolfs, 3 book shelves and 1 double rudsta.
Are you going to be able to connect them together?
No they would not be able to be connected together. They would be a lot like a detolf that just sits next to each other.
I mean its kinda nice for what it is, but isn't it a bit counter productive? Kinda opposite of what makes the moducases special
Sure I guess you could look at it that way. I see it as an alternative for those with small collections or small spaces. Detolfs were very popular so they are trying to gravitate towards that market as well.
IS THE BACK
REVERSABLE TO WHITE?
Yes it is
As a collector that has 100 plus figures this is really isn’t an option for me especially with the price $245 maybe if it was 200$ but what really hurts is shipping time of moducase.
Totally understandable. With this mono case it will ship within the US and will be about an 8 week turnaround time to manufacture.
We will see
I wish the cord connections were completely hidden so all you see is the figure and nothing pulling your eye away on all the levels.
I ran the cables how moduspace did theirs but after I was wondering if it would have looked better to run the cables at the top like the cases.🤔
Sadly is a third-party transformer collector. Don’t think this would work for me. I don’t even think I could put the Titans in there when they stand 20 to 22 inches tall with the combiners it’s just gonna this is more for hot toys or Legos and it would be for anything else.
Yeah this is nice but won’t be ideal for everyone. Thanks for watching!
I’d rather a squared off look - don’t like that top moulding. Those that are interested… make sure to consider import duties/taxes too
This will be shipping from the USA
one area this loses to the detolf is the weight limit
How so? This holds more weight than the detolf…
Is there a way to earthquake proof this guy?
Good question, I think they can be attached to the wall, but I’ll check
Well hell you can’t get them so what’s the use the Ikeas are in abundance…
The current batch is sold out but there will be another soon. I believe this is already the second or third one.
PUN
100% well said! Thank you for the feedback!
There are knocks off of Detolf 😅😅😅😅very cheap and the rest looks terrible
To each their own but I’ve owned both detolfs and the mono and I can say the mono is built 10x better.
Detolfs were loved by collectors and now that they are discontinued I’m sure a large number of collectors would jump at this.
Garbage! Jazzinc makes better cabinets dats why Joost rules the collecting hobbie
Interesting take. I had no idea jazzinc made cabinets
