Today I get to be one of the first drivers on the newly laid Mease Valley Light Railway. Which is exciting. More so is this engine has done literally nothing over its 16 year history!
If you want to be amongst the first people to ride behind it make sure you come to the Statfold Barn Railway's Enthusiast event on 18th March!
Have a look at their website here: www.statfold.com/
A video featuring:
Lawrie - Presenter, very excited to drive Victoria's second day!
Jay - Cameraman, pretty excited to see the new railway operate.
A video edited by Lawrie,
Sound edit by Alex

Last week he's driving a Castle class, and this week he's back to a miniature Loco. Gotta love it
Glad to see Lawrie hasn't forgotten the principles of building a good fire! Great work as always!
Yes just chuck it in!
I sure forgot! Been a while.
If I've learnt anything from this channel, it's the precise and deliberate process of building a fire.
Are you going to drive the locamotif.😊
In an age where there is so much nonsense going on in the world, it is indeed an enormous relief to find a channel such as yours. Your heart is in the right place. As always, nice video, many thanks!
This is quite a scoop. Effectively it's the UK's newest steam loco (since its been on its box ever since it was new). And you're the one that drives it! 🎉
It's like a new old stock model train. Been on the shelf waiting for a buyer to take it away. I went to the steam up event and had a ride behind this little loco. Really good performer.
The pipework on this machine is absolutely one of the most beautiful layouts I've seen
Victoria really seems like a sweetheart of a locomotive. Congratulations on getting to drive her!
18:27 Lawrie's making sure to be *Keeping up Appearances*
This is the only person who can say he feels excited without looking it and I still believe him
Appreciate the relevant ads for something I might actually want.
Fantastic detox to some of the contemporary bleakness to see Lawrie getting impressed by a genuinely well build little locomotive. Lawries hand on the regulator he barley had to encourage Victoria, It was the locomotive equivalent of letting cattle out to spring pasture.
I need to visit Britain again some day and check out a few of these railways Lawrie has visited.
It’s great to see that there are companies that still build locomotives
Thanks Lawrie, powered by steam, yet younger than all those in your car fleet?! Good to see the experience being used in design to make it easier 🙏🙏
That's definitely a beutiful little locomotive, it makes me want to build some tracks and have one imported to the U.S. I also think it's impressive that can be easily reguaged for multiple track sizes.
Looking forward to seeing it at statfold this weekend! Hoping this will be a replacement for the sadly closed garden railway.
Great video Lawrie!
Couldn't help but notice that from 24:54 - 25:18, the engine sounded like the Corris No.7 from Train Simulator 😂
Bossman spotted
As you were talking about how Victoria wears her colour so well, all I could think about was an image I once saw of Talyllyn in blue.
Great to see this review of an Exmoor Engine. Have driven quite a few over the years and even purchased one from Exmoor ( Billy May ) . The review says it all. 👍
Not normally a fan of sponsors - but when the sponsor is a railway it's something I can get behind! Victoria reminds me of J.B. Snell's 'Jennie'.
I really am trying to get appropriate ones, but I'm afraid you'll see the odd one from time to time as I need the income.
Kills me every time . Wen your looking at the camera saying u mst take care stacking a fire n not just chuck it in . Gold
Hi Laurie it’s me Benjamin the boy from steeple grange it was a pleasure meeting you I hope to see you at steeple grange again
It’s nice to hear that I’m going to sharing my 19th birthday with a brand new railway
So cool to see their progress! (And always a pleasure to see an outside-frame little engine!)
Amazing whistle
Loving Lawrie going a little loco episodes hope more happen and hope the Romney have you on one of there locos
OMG, I love this engine so much, it's so beautiful and well built ❤.
It's a lovely little thing
Lawrie's Mechanical Marvels LOVE LOUIS SHIRLVE
Lawrie , thanks for sharing the video. Victoria is a really nice locomotive and looks a treat to drive. Wish I was on the other side of the pond and could come and visit Statfold.
For Lawrie Goes a Little Loco, i would strongly reccomend heading to the RH&DR in kent. They offer cab rides and the chance to drive an engine and its certainly an expierence you won't forget!
Rhysxxxx🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉10000000000
Wow I have to say 16 years is a good age for a miniature steam engine but a super duper good video LMM
She’s very cute! It’s truly the Little Engine That Could.
What an awesome little loco. Really looking forward to checking this out on Saturday.
Was there on the very wet 18th and somehow totally missed this! So much to see although did get a very quick hello with your good self!
Just a bit of random info, Exmoor locos have been built up to 15 inch gauge! There are quite a few built at that gauge, I worked with two Ellie and Ruby at the Lappa Valley Railway in Cornwall, and Perrygrove have a couple based there too!
I'm fairly sure I mentioned this was a 15 inch scaled down
@@lmm my bad! Must have got my wires crossed! But thought I’d mention it! And totally agree with what you were saying! The exmoor design is amazing, they drive so efficient and well, and the quality is second to none! I’m also new to the channel and loving the stuff!
Have you ever been to Dordt in Stoom Netherlands? Every 2 years it is a huge event where a whole city is filled with steam tractors, steamtrains, miniature railways, steam ships etc. I think it would be amazing for you to visit and film. Also the event maybe would be interested in foreign enthousiast!
Another top quality video, cheers Lawrie!
Heck yeah wooooooooo. These are actually my favorite because there's something about downscaling something so MASSIVE into a bit sized machine that can still do a ton of work
What a beautifully engineered little loco, how lucky are you, first drive.👍
Statfold sending a loco away to be repaired? That's a sentence I never thought I'd ever hear...!
What a beautiful little Engine!!
What a beauty! Such tiny big engine. :)
From Castles to this lovely little engine. Nice on Laurie.
Had a ride on this railway at the steam up event and it's a great little line. Couldn't believe how quick it was built as it wasn't there last year when I went to the model railway event. It literally has just appeared. Can't wait for the completed full line extension to be built.
I wondered where those carriages went from Bressingham. Now even I could drive an engine that big.
The smokestack cap makes it look like a big *comfortable* Tinkerbell. Fully enclosed cab indeed!
Love the Foxfield glad they sponsored I am a Volunteer there myself and another great video.
We're excited to support the channel ^^
Almost 3 minutes of foaming over how the small amount of run time lol. Very special indeed. Love your enthusiasm
Saw you up on the footplate on the tram line on Saturday! Hope you enjoyed!!!
Lovely engine good luck for the railway opening
Lovely thank you for sharing this
Ohhhhh lovely. Great video lawrie! Victoria looks like ruby from lappa valley. It was also made by the same company! See ya nest via lawrie.
Hi Lawrie, I love both steam trains and classic cars and I draw them, my Dad was in the auto repair business all his working life and I had 2 relatives on Britain's railways.
That’s Saturday for me which is tomorrow here in Australia. Love it
Charming little engine ☺
Isn't it just!
Yep. That's the exact kind of loco that, as a child, I imagined I would drive someday. That will be a mandatory stop if I ever visit the UK...
Another excellent video, you really should be on tv
Funny you should mention that...
@@lmm well there's a teaser.
I love the look of that loco
It's great
Didn't even wash your car for the sponsor. Legend
Wish I could go to Statfold but I'm American, sadly.
Gonna have to go some time, though.
That loco looks fun to drive!
It is!
Victoria's shape, namely the smokebox, reminds me of Edward Thomas/Peter Sam.
A a nice video again, Lawrie goes Loco 🙂
What a tremendous little beastie, she sounded great! I cannot get to the SBR this year so I guess I'll have wait to experience the loop... unless Lawrie kidnaps the loco.
I'm more concerned that the loco might kidnap Lawrie
I would like to kidnap it
I'd love to see you visit the Bickington Steam Railway (also known as the Trago Mills Railway)
Lawrie: *talks about the importance of building a good fire*
Also Lawrie: *proceeds to randomly throw pieces of wood into the firebox while doing so*
That is a cool little engine :)
There is a Minature Railway in Stockport called Brookside Garden Centre. I am thinking about volunteering there when I'm 18, I'm 17 at the moment. I think it would be awsome to drive trains there, I've wanted to do that since a was little.
"one, completely out of scale, jug of steam oil"
Which is ironically several times bigger than the one Didcot gave you for greasing the Castle
Im almost 100% certain this was either inspired by or is the the locomotive Lady from Thomas and the Magic Railroad, thank you LMM for keeping railroading in the limelight!
Exmoor locomotives predate that - so maybe they took inspiration from an Exmoor?
You're welcome, glad you're enjoying the channel
Having experience of working with full size and narrow gauge locos I appreciate your in depth and simple way of explaining everything involved with prepping a steam loco.
It's something that alot of people don't know about or realise how much is involved!
It's all what we're trying to do! Glad you enjoyed it
@@lmm It works well and glad that people like you are doing this sort of thing!
If it gets the younger generation into steam it's not bad thing!
looks like a great engine, i like exmoors. the only improvement i would sugest is a half high backsheet for the cab so that your view backwards is better
Excellent camera work and enjoyable instructive narration thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it
I did indeed sir your videos took me back to my hand burning happy days of my live steam engines l had never heard of you before and hopefully you have never heard of me.Your delightful videos have brought great memories and comfort to this ancient eccentric steam enthusiast in his twilight of his life. Thank you young sir and keep it up.
Thats a lovely little engine. I can't help but wonder what that mechanism and control system would be like in a miniature traction engine.
Having made made the jump from 7 1/4 to full size its so much easier as you only have to do one job not fire ,drive and guard as you have to be on the ball in miniature.
If I ever win the lottery I'm gonna start a steam railway, you're gonna get to drive on day one
Sounds great!
What a lovely loco
Yorkshire Area National Coal Board locomotives had a livery akin to this, but no pin-striping on a std gauge Hunslet 0-6-0ST.
The locomotive looks 'old', yet you can't tie down exactly what it is.
Without any clues as to the scale of the thing it could be from the Tallylyn Railway in Wales.
Reminds me a bit of Dolgoch or Talyllyn, maybe Altonia if it was a proper steam engine? or maybe it's just the color. Either way it's a beautiful modern steam engine, and what's this? a cab that actually makes sense and is comfortable for single-man operations? That's virtually unheard of on the narrow gauge.
Epic!
Victoria is beautiful little but beautiful
23:00 i always wondered how they got the coal from that type of bunker set up to the fire box.cheers
2:37 nice Mini
Greetings from wet California. Lucky you are such a young man, my old heart couldn't stand the excitement you've had just between the Castle and this little engine.
Is this railway in some specific scale? It seems proportionally too narrow to represent 2' .
Did you fancy a go on the Olympian and Fleetline round the back of the shed there whole you were there?
I wonder what happened to George from the Poole park railway. I think it was built by the same manufacturer as this engine. Perhaps it may still be around?
Wait... this place is 25 KM from my house?! WOW.
Not sure if you know, but is that whistle a copy of the Baldwin ones from the NA's at Puffing Billy in Oz? Sounds identical......
DAWG WHAT IS THAT SANDWICH
Oo, very nice. Are you likely to be back up the TFLR on the 26th? I’ll be bringing my Iceni up for a session if you fancy a drive,
style wise i would think of it as a mix between Hunslet's Jack and Russell
Hi Lawrie, thanks for sharing this video, quick question, will you be reviewing the little diesel that pulled Victoria out of the shed?, it looks rather interesting too, anyway, take care, all the best from Scotland, Stephen.
I hope to!
Very nice indeed, I wonder how much one of those costs?
Gorgeous. Would prefer larger windows.
Hey Lawrie I was wondering those other miniature engines in the intro where are the videos you made on the as I can see you talking to the camera?
Reminds me of Ivor the Engine.
whens the south shields episode coming out, looking forward to that.
It's just cute 🤗
But since it's more than 300 mm gauge, it would be regarded as any other narrow-gauge railway for the purpose of Polish Railway Transport Act. 🧐 Fortunately, the Polish Act doesn't have the force over it 🤓 But I have to make my railway 5 inches, anyway 😕
Ooh,recognised the ex bressingham coahes..
One thing Lawrie doesn't cover that I want to know about is the couplings and how they work. I see the couplers on the rolling stock, but how are they connected? do the couplers require anything else between them like a chain or link bar? Do the couplers have any draft gear?
I think that's a link and pin system, you slot a link in to the coupler, a pin to secure it, and then reverse into the carriage/wagon and slot a pin in there to connect.
@@GreatCenteralGlory I gathered that, on this railroad, but not every coupling is like that.
Last time I was at Foxfield it was in the seventies and it was wet and miserable and closed.
