    Mate it's great to see the close relationship that you have with your old man, and especially hearing the story of how he and his father (your grandfather) purchased it when he was a young man. You can definitely see the love and care and attention to detail that's gone into maintaining those boats.
    I also love the old Haines glass boats, and reckon that the v17 is the perfect size all round.
    Perfect for chasing snapper and mackerel off the Goldy out along the 50m line, but equally at home parked up along the edge of the channels chasing whiting in the Broadwater.

      G’day Adam, thanks so much for the comment mate. 🙌 I absolutely love fishing with dad, it makes it ten times better for sure. And plus, he’s the one that got me hooked in the first place! 😁
      He has definitely looked after the boat mate and has taught me the importance of doing the same. The motor is pretty much 30 years old and still running like a dream to be honest… most people that hear that, their jaw drops 😂
      The Haines are awesome mate, and you’re absolutely spot on about the V17 being a great all rounder. We do exactly that in it - chase whiting and flathead over the top of shallow sandflats in the Broadwater or up the rivers, and can then take it out 20km or more to chase Snapper and reefies. It can do everything we like to do!
      Once again thanks so much for the comment, tight lines Adam 🙌🎣👍

    Thank you for showing your boat. I have just bought a partially restored V17C to replace my old Premier Offshore Navigator. All the hard work (transom etc) and painting has been done so I just have to tidy up the rest. I will transplant my 2000 model 90hp Yamaha (that I bought brand new) onto the back and a few other goodies as well. I love a few items that you have on yours and I’ll probably do something very similar. Once it’s all done, I’ll go through all the registration process for the boat and trailer and hopefully have it ready for summer!
    I’ve heard that they have a good reputation and are quite popular, so I can’t wait to try it for myself very soon!
    Stay safe on the water and may your lines be tight!

    Love it guys !!! Classic bulletproof epic boats! It's got at least another 40 years to go - Will's grand kids will be using it :) will miss the two stroke sound in your videos ! Four strokes are quiet and so good 👍 forget the gelcoat - chuck a kitching fishing wrap and design on it - and hit someone up for sponsorship of a new sounder ! You won't know yourself...you'll catch 4 times more.

    • @willkitching

      G’day Karl thanks for watching as always mate, and thanks for the comment!!
      They are definitely tough, smooth boats that’s for sure 💪 we love it, and that’s why we look after it so well. It still has plenty of fish left in it I think 😁
      Yeah we are going to miss the old two stroke as well, it just seems to keep going!! But the fourstoke will be interesting, it will definitely have a better economy in terms of fuel though that’s for sure.
      Hahaha that isn’t a bad idea! It would be interesting to fish with a more modern sounder and see what difference it makes, maybe in the future that will be a plan! 👍 I think ours definitely has some limitations but at the same time it’s still pretty good for what we do, maybe just not quite as detailed as the new ones.
      Once again thanks for the comment mate, good to hear from you! Tight lines 🎣👌

      Thanks mate I appreciate the comment! Funnily enough since this video we’ve got ourselves a new motor (Mercury 115hp CT fourstroke) and it has been absolutely great! We’ve had it almost 2 years now and it’s been awesome.
      The other motor was still working fine too when we got rid of it, it was a cracker motor!
      I’ll definitely make a video on how we look after our motor / maintain it though, I think a lot of people would find it very interesting 🙌

    Good local boat! This would have been made in the factory right near you? The Haines family lived a few streets away from me growing up and we used to play with the son!

      Yes! Wow what are the chances mate, I remember you saying you lived down this way years ago. And their boats are still extremely sought after today, who would have known back then! 😁👍

  • @dazl2954
    @dazl2954 2 роки тому +1

    Always wondered about your rig and was surprised that you guys use it in shallows to catch whiting etc. Really nice history with the boat and your old man has some good ideas such as the Mercury CT 115 as that will give you at least double the range. An idea for the old man is maybe a new fuel tank. Might be worth asking Brisbane Marine if they do a deal on a motorguide as it will save you guys time messing with anchors, help with drifting etc.

    • @willkitching
      @willkitching  2 роки тому

      G’day mate thanks for the comment! Yeah sometimes we get it up that shallow that we have to trim the motor up to keep drifting over the shallow banks, it’s perfect!
      I’m very lucky, Dad has definitely kept it in great condition and got some really good ideas. We are excited about having more range with the new fourstroke when it arrives, and we have also thought about how to have a bigger fuel tank (it’s currently 90 litres).
      We have thought about electric motors too mate that’s a very good point, especially when we’re offshore and want to just spot lock on a school of fish and drop straight down on top of them. We will possibly look into it in the future!
      I appreciate the comment mate, thanks for watching and tight lines 😁👍🎣

    • @willkitching
      @willkitching  Рік тому

      Hey mate, I was only young when Dad got it done (around 15 years ago). He said it was around $8,500 which was a lot better than buying a second hand boat which could have had more problems.
      Not sure what it would cost these days though!
      Cheers mate 👍

      We got ours done by a guy in Redbank Plains called Damien's Auto & Marine Upholstery, here is his number: 0431341005 (He gives free quotes).
      We are really happy with the actual canopy part but to be completely honest we aren't very happy with the straps. The quality of the material and hooks he put on there aren't very good, so just make sure you talk to him and get exactly what you're wanting.
      Hope this helps mate! 🙌

    • @willkitching
      @willkitching  2 роки тому +1

      G’day Wayne, we usually have all the safety gear right there ready to grab, however we stripped everything out of the boat for this video. Safety is definitely our priority mate, no fish is worth dying over! 👍🎣 tight lines

    • @waynemee8920

      @@willkitching can't strip it out for video if it is mounted properly. Quick release brackets fitted right beside the helm position.

    • @willkitching
      @willkitching  2 роки тому

      @@waynemee8920 We have all our safety gear (EPIRB, Flares, etc.) in an open bag right at the front of the cabin, ready to grab instantly if we ever need it. That way every trip we can unpack it and keep it safe inside the house as well, and avoid anyone jumping in the boat and stealing it (which has happened to people we know). It’s still as easy as ever to grab. In fact it’s way easier for us doing it this way than having it mounted on any brackets, and it means it’s all kept together as well. 👍
