Corgis actually look cutest when they're doing what they're bred to do. If they are not herding cattle, they will herd water fountains, vacuum cleaners, lawn mowers. I actually owned two herding breeds at one time--a Corgi and a Border Coilie. Now my Corgi would bark and nip at my lawnmower when I was mowing the lawn, and the Border Collie would watch and observe. The next time, my Border Collie would take the lead not just barking, but actually grabbing a hold of my lawnmowers wheels, where my Corgi would just nip. Very interesting having two Herding dogs.

My Dad has a cattle ranch in Oregon, and I have been trying to convince him of the value of the corgi. They don't drive the cattle too hard, and they don't run the fat off them. That way you get more for them at market.

Although you might be right , a good stock dog can be bought for less than 500$ compared to a corgi which could cost you upwards of 2000$ because of their popularity

Most people buy them for pets. They're good with children & they are loyal & sweet!

This video: Corgis are highly intelligent
My corgi: *keeps vomiting and re-eating mushrooms because he can't remember he doesn't like the taste*

That's because Corgis have an infinite hole inside them that says, "C'mon, eat! You know you can fit that entire bull inside! There's plenty of room!" As a result, they'll continue eating until everything edible is gone. This is why Corgis are aptly described as an appetite on four legs.

Speaking of the Pemmies I wish there was a line of Corgin that held to working standards in their confirmation. There is a huge difference between the queen's first dogs and what is seen today. The difference in length of leg and the shape of the head and muzzle are easily seen.
We're herded by our third and fourth fairy mounts. All showed herding instinct and one of each pair wanted to herd the vacuum with bark and bite.

Yeah, the conformation differences from 1930 up to today is astonishing. You might find what you are looking for in some of the Cardigan lines?

I think that has to do with how they are trained at a young age. Now a days at least in the states, people over-feed them and don’t exercise them as much/give them a job to do.
The Swedish Vallhund is a herding dog breed as well; they are cousins to the corgi; same body shape, but their coloring resembles a wolf. They have a ton of energy and they are a beautiful breed. I want one someday if my life is able to make room and adapt for me to own one. 🙏

What the lady says is not true. Corgis are still used to herd cattle in Wales. I saw a video with Tony Robinson about the old roads in England and Wales that showed corgis herding cattle. I can’t remember the name of the show.

Lisa Truitt, I've seen several similar TV shows. Usually it's the Cardigans and the puppies are actually placed on the back of a cow to get them used to the animal. What incredible dogs, both the Cardis and the Pembrokes. I'd love to have one of those Montana Corgis :)

You are talking about the cattle drovers. They even set up their own bank. Lloyd's.

Corgis & 'valleys of Wales'? Nope! They herded in rural West Wales.
Great to see them working well on a modern farm half way across the world!

The Cardi with the tail is my family. Smartest breed. I don't support any animal herding cows. That's dangerous. Only sheep and goats. And overbreeding is a big problem, for their hips are becoming worse, not better due to breeding ignoramus's greed.

    • @kristenlandon796

I was wondering about that. What is it about the breeding process that gives them hip health issues?

    • @DivineLightPaladin
      @DivineLightPaladin Рік тому

@@kristenlandon796 it's not the process it's people breeding without checking health conditions so that they get passed on
