I would agree with you about healers and herbalists as the natural way of the ancestors in helping society. That being said, there are witches who do no healer neither are they open ability their abilities. He believes that that Satan gives witches power, but then he says that Satan doesn’t exist, so witches doesn’t exist. Therefore, he’s worse than a pagan or a witch. This literally is so messed up! Honestly, It sounds like he was more trying to reconcile Doctrines. Doctrinally, Satan must be weaker than God and his servants. therefore, any power he gives to witches must be weaker still. However, doctrine of the time said that evil was caused by Satan, and witches and heretics gained power from them. I am not saying he wasn't a hypocrite, just that it is the type of hypocrisy we see even today when looking at doctrinal and logical contradictions. Ok, the fact that Kramer thought that by believing that witches have no power, then that is worse than being a pagan or a witch, and then he further says that Satan does not exist is just pure hypocrisy. He believes that that Satan gives witches power, but then he says that Satan doesn’t exist, so witches doesn’t exist. Therefore, he’s worse than a pagan or a witch. This literally is so messed up! (Oh and don’t say that “”it was in a different time”: bc I know that it was written in a different time, it doesn’t matter what time it was written in, if u don’t see the hypocrisy than something is wrong with u!)
Honestly, It sounds like he was more trying to reconcile Doctrines. Doctrinally, Satan must be weaker than God and his servants. therefore, any power he gives to witches must be weaker still. However, doctrine of the time said that evil was caused by Satan, and witches and heretics gained power from them.
I am not saying he wasn't a hypocrite, just that it is the type of hypocrisy we see even today when looking at doctrinal and logical contradictions. You can see it in almost all aspects of humanity, from politics to stranger danger/self esteem training in the 90s.

In the eyes of Kramer and the church of the time, they are people, primarily women, who are given evil power in return for their soul and allegiance. They are corrupted into witches, as creation was corrupted by the the serpent from the garden. They are not a new thing, merely a thing god created which had fallen. In a dark mirror of those saints who were supposed to have gone out to spread the faith with miracles, Witches would go forth and spread heresy with their "magic" which was in action the work of the devil.

Having wasted a birthday reading it, it's not a book that I would recommend. It was very confusing and in my personal opinion sounds more like the guy hated women in general rather than hating witches
