Early adopter here, working on video editing and color grading very smoothly. What I do is: first, I still use window 10. There's no benefits at the moment to move to 11. Second, I'm using DDR4 memory, DDR5 is not great yet and expensive. Third, I use mainly Davinvi Resolve, dont thrust Adobe any more. 12th gen is really powerful! 👍

So sorry to hear about all the issues you've had. I've just made a new build with a 12700k, MSI Z690 Carbon, 32GB DDR5 and Windows 11 Pro. I've genuinely had almost no issues at all. The only one I can think of is a single failure of MSI centre to initialise properly on boot causing some excessive fan noise.

Early adopter here - I pre-ordered my 12900k and it was shipped on 5th of Nov. alongside with my DDR5 board and DDR5 kit. Now I've bought my second Alder Lake CPU an 12700k with the same DDR5 motherboard and another pair of DDR5 kit other frequency and CAS.
Both systems are using Windows 11 and they are very stable. I work on both systems and also gaming on them in my spare time. I had no issues with these two systems while I was games or while I was doing my daily work activity.

The problems you are talking about are real, but they are to be expected. Every time they go to a totally new CPU architecture these problems always come up. They will get the problems worked out eventually. I remember when the Pentium 4 with hyperthreading came out, games and software ran worse with the new processors until they worked out all the bugs.
So yeah if you are a content creator and your livelihood comes from the content you create, now is not the time to upgrade to 12th gen Intel. Let the hardware and software companies workout all the bugs first!

glad u mentioned the memory compatibility issues. Out of the box , for me , every ddr5 mobo running at lowest possible speed , any modifications & system would not boot. Same thing can be said about ddr4. Compatibility is limited. & out of the box , DDR4 runs at 2133. After bios update , was possible to go up to 3733 for me , 4 modules. I’ve given up on Xmp , for now at least. Stable max for DDR4 so far for me has been 3600. Running 4x8 GB G. Skill 4400 modules. Please note that these are not listed in the list of compatible modules for the used motherboard. Here theres plenty of ddr5 available , but if you look on the support section for lets say asus rog motherboards , only one of them is listed as compatible & that one being the 4800 CL40 type module.
4 modules is indeed not great , the old rules seem to apply here. 4 modules for workstations , 2 for efficiency & stability. Preferably a two slot motherboard too then for that matter.
I’ve only been using Win 10 so far , reason being is the creator aspect you mentioned. Which is a pretty solid factor indeed.
Besides that , 12th gen & Z690 boards seem to be working very well. Have only been using 12900K so far. Temperatures with proper ventilation & just air cooling alone make my system run like a fridge. Very impressed by that. Looks promising , very promising.
Only thing I’ve been noticing is that my file explorer seems to be bricked , but odds are my drive is to blame for that.
Lastly , only heat I’m ever seeing is the VRM or chipset , cpu running at 5400 mhz , 35°C , not heavy load , but still. Those are great numbers.

In regards to the ram issues I would not even bother with DDR5 at the moment, just stick with DDR4 if considering the move to Alder Lake. Once supplies stabilize and all the bugs get worked out then it might make sense but I don't see that happening for awhile. If thunderbolt is really important there's always add in cards. When you mentioned system stability of the the bios plays a huge factor. MSI appears to have the most stable bios at the moment out of all the manufacturers at least as far as DDR4 is concerned.

I feel like intel is just trying to make up for losing Apple by getting Microsoft onboard. They’re just looking at Apple like “see this is what you’re missing out on” as if Apple gives a crap. They stated awhile ago that getting Apple back on board is something they will be striving for. Which doesn’t make sense since intel did nothing but hurt Apple both in stability and give up proprietary hardware to the hackintosh community (which I loved). Plus Apple is already on 5nm and intel is just barely on 10nm.

Thanks for doing this TN because I thought about Alderlake, but as usual with new tech, it’s always better to wait until it’s fleshed out. We went through this with ddr3 vs ddr4 and it took about two years in each with ram prices, compatibility and availability to make the platforms stable.
I will stick with my Amd 5950x for the moment, although Intel is really making their CPU prices highly competitive at the low to highend with Intel and the 12700k and 12900k look interesting. I have to have a stable platform for my work.

I'm looking for bang for the buck: fuctionality over bragging rights..I neither want to be cheap about my cpu, nor overspend when money saved could be better used on RAM, storage etc.. any suggestions/recommendations would be greatly appreciated

It's still in bits as I am waiting to get the graphics card but.....this video did not make my day. I messed up and got three Seagate 530 sticks, but they had the heatsink on, which does not fit onto the motherboard. I went back onto Amazon to get the 530s without the heatsink, but when I went onto the page to buy them - it said once, and in small print "510" (in between all of the 530 material, which was nice of them), so I've gone for the Samsung Pros. But this whole thing with the memory is a concern....I'll let you know how it goes.

It's not beta testing, it's just a lot of new tech as per your bullet list. All ofa this is new, including PCIe 5.0. You cannot keep testing technology before shipping it to the market until all bugs are found. After decades of professional software development, I know bugs are a fact of life because at the end of the day, we are all human. I cannot spot any major bugs in my 12700K and ASUS ProArt Z690 setup. If anything, it's proven to be rock solid. No random restarts. No blue screens. No overheating. I am glad Intel and Asus shipped this new tech instead of withholding it and testing it more in-house.

When I had an intel CPU the boot speed always remained the same and consistent. I also notice some random performance drop for a few second when I'm using Adobe software. I have started ordering components for an Intel 12th Gen rig, starting with a Core i9 12900K cpu and an EVGA NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3080 Ti FTW3 Ultra Gaming vid card. I'm still researching the DDR5 vs DDR4 issues, but will probably go with DDR5 ecc memory. I'll be using Windows 11 Pro, (hopefully they will patch it up in the near future to catch up to the demands of users across the board). I am a low level creator on UA-cam, but I getting ready to ramp up my channel. I'm gearing up for up to 4K editing and viewing, ( I already use home theater with 5.1 surround), I'm a gamer, and sometimes multitasker. I am also a wannabe guitar player/multiple instrument musician and will be running recording software also. I will let you know if I have any particular issues in my endeavors, (besides the already established ecc latency vs data security, etc...), as I encounter them. I am currently using Adobe editing software, (2018 version), but that may change as I try to evolve upward.

I was not able to go with the ecc style DDR5 as the motherboard did not support it. I'm actually glad I did not as the latency was higher, although I would have liked the security of the data write checking. The rig showed 4K display @120 fps settings. It runs fantastic. The 360 AIO keeps the cpu nice and cool and the fans are quiet to me. I am still configuring and loading software. I still have my other work pc and am taking my time setting up the new one. Watching movies is quite awesome with the big 4K display and 5.1 surround. I now need a nice recliner, hahahaha. I have to load the video editing software, the new music studio software. I have a new SONNUS i2M musicport MIDI and Hi-Z USB audio interface to be able to run my electric guitars, singing microphone, and other musical equipment to record on the studio software. The only issue I have encountered is trying to watch 4K DVD's. I have a Pioneer BDR-XS07UHD external optical disc player/writer, supposedly capable of writing and playing 4K. When I try to watch a 4K DVD movie, I get an error. I am trying to analyze and find an answer to that. I can watch 4K from UA-cam OK. I think it is a copyright issue on the DVD's so you can't burn copies of 4K. I will also will be trying some 4K editing from my GoPro cameras to see if there is any issues. I have Cyberlink Power DVD 21 Ultra software supposedly capable of playing 4K. I am going to call Intel, ASUS, and Pioneer to try to solve the issue. If I can edit and write 4K to disc, then watch my video from disc, the issue is definitely copyright, and probably circumventable. I don't want to burn illegal copies of movies, I buy them to own and just want to watch them on my 5,500.00 freaking computer and display, hahahaha. I do like my new rig and will be flexing it more as time goes on. I have not loaded any games yet but I'm sure it will handle any on the market, and what I already own, including m HTC Vive VR stuff.
