Its weird to see the old photos and see the wooded or empty areas where there are now rides today. Like, how did anyone have fun with such limited ride options back then?. Each time I go now, I don't have time to ride everything because there are too many rides. When Tatsu opened I was lucky enough to be featured in the commercial that would advertise the ride on TV the first few months after the ride opened. I had to be there at 6am a couple days before it opened to the public. However I got to ride it over and over again till the commercial was done filming.
(Six Flags) Magic Mountain opened in 1971. At the time, Gold Rush and Mountain Express were major roller coasters. The park was set up more like Disneyland/Knott's Berry Farm, where people went to do more than just rides. We easily spent the entire day there and had plenty to do.
Oh there was still plenty to do. My first visit was in 1975… to most of you that was about 100 years ago. But I digress.. there was No Revolution and no Colossus. There was Mountain Express and Gold Rusher! I love Gold Rusher to this day! It might be small but it’s mighty! It still has lots of spirit! I was 8 years old and there were lots of flat rides like Swiss Twist, Jolly Monster, Circus Wheel, Scrambler, bumper cars, spinning barrels which were like the tea cups at Disneyland. The Log Jammer was my favorite as a kid plus there was a dragon ride that took you up and down the hill and Magic Pagoda which was a house of mirrors or a funhouse type of attraction. Revolution was the first huge roller coaster and before they built it they had a model on display. I was 10 years old the first time I rode Revolution and at the time Colossus was in the works. There was also a model on display of Colossus. I remember the incidents that took place. I wasn’t at the park when they happened but remember hearing about the couple that fell on Eagles Flight. At the time it was rumored they were rocking the gondola on purpose to make it more thrilling and it fell from the cable all the way down. It turned out they hadn’t done any thing to make the ride fall. I remember the incident when Colossus opened and the lady fell out on the first drop causing the ride to be shut down for almost a year until they could figure out exactly what happened. I remember the description of her was she was short and her feet didn’t reach the floor very well and she was also obese and the lap bar wouldn’t hold her in. I remember my first ride on Colossus and I remember during the 80s it was the tallest and fastest. I remember seeing lots of shows at the Showcase Theatre when they used to have well known artists play there! It was a big deal to see you favorite band play there! You got to see a concert and ride roller coaters. It was the place to be. There used to be Pavillion of sorts where DC universe is now that played live music and they had dancing. I could go on! I like the song with this video. It’s a kind of happy sentimental song!
@@naj5338you still got there during the park’s glory days. Once Revolution and Colossus showed up it was a game changer and the thrills only got bigger from there. I was a grade schooler when I first visited and I have loved it ever since
Emanuel, Thank you for posting this! My Uncle, Eugene "Doc" Lemmon, picked the site of, and named the Park Magic Mountain when he was one of the VP's of Seaworld in the late 1960's.The logo depicted on the first park map at: 015-19 was designed by my cousin, and was only used for a few years. My Uncle used his past Disneyland experience for being the number 1 man, the President there. In Todd James Pierce's book, "Three Years Of Wonderland", which was published in April of 2016, which tells untold stories in a book of the making of Disneyland, on page 104, my uncle is cited as, "the fifth official employee of Disneyland". Hope you all enjoyed hearing about some of the history of the Park!
Well Mr. Carlos, all I. can say is your uncle has MY RESPECT FO' EVAH!!!! Couldn't have picked a better name or a better sight for an EVER GROWING AND AWESOME amusement park.......MR. Eugene "DOC" Lemmon, sir, Sean Lewis SALUTE YOU!!!!🙌👍 Six Flags Magic Mountain FO' LIFE!!!
here I am : a fan of Six Flags Magic Mountain , who lives in Brazil and met the park in rollercoaster Tycoon 2 and my favorite toys to care are VIPER And X2. Man, when I saw the photos of the construction of the viper and the x2 in the video, I was thrilled I almost cried ! How beautiful the photos!
Honestly this track goes well with six flags the drive over there to the scenery when your on the rides . I love six flags as a rollercoaster enthusiast. Looking to go to New Jerseys great adventure
haha cool pics of old six flags and new I man back in the day there was nothing in that park now that park is full of coasters old and new lol I freakin love Six Flags Magic Mountain way to much man I go like at least once or twice a year if not more lol
I rode all of those rides shown in the first two minutes and twenty seconds. Loved the Mountain Express and the Gold Rusher. I think the Gold Rusher was the only roller coaster when the park opened. There was also a log ride. The Barrels were lame. I use to throw paper airplanes and drop things from the lower level of the Sky Tower...maybe that's why they closed it. Loved the Spin-Out, but too many people puked on it. The lamest was the Funicular which was the only shortcut down the mountain from the tower to the main enterence area. Spillikin Corners was a place to waste time making candles and not going on rides. The Magic Pagoda was an acid trip with a talking Buddha, strobe lights, and magic disappearing chambers.
I was too young to ride the Mountain Express. I went there as they were demolishing it, and the entry sign was in a dumpster in the parking lot. I begged my dad to let me take it home, but he said "no". It probably weighed too much for us to pick up anyway, but it would have been fun to own.
same here and not for your reasons, They should have had a sign to warn people not to have change in their pocket when going on that ride. I was lead on it for awhile and I used to pull handfuls of quarters and other change after it closed and all the people left the park. I mush have made about $250 off it before they told me to stop doing that lolz ;)
ElPueblodeMadera interesting it has a Canadian flag painted on it - what's up with that - maybe something to do with the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Alberta?
I remember when Freefall was a big deal. I was in line for it with Larry Brown, and Michael Jackson and his entourage used a fast pass to get to the front of the line. He chickened out, and they wall walked away.
Very cool! Thanks for all the pictures! I wonder if some of those park maps would be collectors items today if you had an actual hardcopy? I would think they would have some value. I first went to Magic Mountain in the spring of 1993. I remember riding Z-Force which I thought was a cool ride. Since then, I’ve gone back probably a total of Five times with my last visit being in 2009. I am way overdue to get back up there and hit the park again!
Cool slide show. Weird choice of mucic... but whatev. Here's a few classics I noticed are mssing: The Bobsled, Z-Force, Enterprise, Electric Rainbow, Condor. The good ol days.
No, when the ride opened the launch system was new, as years go by the launch system became weaker so it wasn’t hitting the breaks anymore at the top. Then when it reopened it got a new launch system, then again the launch system 10 years later was getting weak, luckily they used Tower of terror II parts and now it’s a little bit higher
Someone needs to do an animated video recreation of the Magic Pagoda.I remember bits and pieces of it. The talking Buddha. The mirror maze. Indoor streams and clothes lines. I think there was some image of a dragon projected on the ceiling at one point.
@emymares Weird... I don't remember Freefall ever being those colors. I remember it was yellow... and then blue. That photo must have been taken in its last days.
Gabriel Lorenzana No their not. Not anymore. I'm a big Six Flags guy but Cedar Parks right now is coaster king. Two RMC's in one year and more coasters at their parks over the next two years Cedar Park is not playing with the game right now. Six Flags right now it seems is interested in carnival type rides. Which is odd because Magic Mountain in particular has acres and acres of unplanned space to extend. Magic Mountain needs a giga coaster right about now. It's long overdue.
What are u talking about?? Magic Mountain is the true roller coaster capital of the world. U mean other Six Flags parks need to up their game. SFMM is doing just fine.
I’ve been going to this park since 1975 and I remember all the old rides...especially the Log Jammer
Its crazy how the park to this day has improved so much in that 50 year span
this song makes me feel something and ive never heard of it

i remember the mountain express it was a kick ass ride for a little coaster
That's one helluva first coaster. Mine was Gold Rusher.

Maan, I'm never gonna forget when I rode Sarajevo Bobsleds in 19984.

That friend has to get some photos of those. Apparently there are quite a few people here on the interwebs that would love to see them.
Yeah, I didn't see that either. I miss Freefall. There was hardly ever any line for that ride. But it was one of the first rides that just drops you

7:27 why would you put fire effects right next to a wooden coaster????
I'm going there next year and thank you for making it! Now, I Know All Of The Info!🎢🎡🎠
Aww De Ja Vu, may he R.I.P. :( i loved that ride
I went through the pagoda once. It was filled with pot smoke, and my mom was pitching a fit.
This song hits.....
thanks for this. went back in the 80;s. nice to see how it used to be before they jammed rised into every possible inch there.
2:23 Sarajevo Bobsleds 19984. Is the ride from the future or from the past?
ElPueblodeMadera interesting it has a Canadian flag painted on it - what's up with that - maybe something to do with the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, Alberta?
ElPueblodeMadera obviously the future
Mistake its 1984
Not that number
So the past
"Galaxy" was such a very unique flat ride. I wish there were some similar rides you could still do today.
Spent allot of time there growing up. Great park.
I remember when Freefall was a big deal. I was in line for it with Larry Brown, and Michael Jackson and his entourage used a fast pass to get to the front of the line. He chickened out, and they wall walked away.
Docktor Jim really?
I was there on opening day, I think it was some kind of benefit for something called Reiss-Davis charity of some sort.
I remember all of these rides
@TheTGODkid its a ride called free fall, but they took it out last year it was replaced with the green lantern roller coaster.
Mountain Express was a cool coaster, I was sad when that one was taken out.

Freefall was taken out in 2006. It still hasn't been replaced. Green Lantern is in another spot
worked mountain express back in 78..great times
I was there too...as an engineer on the steam train.
Cool slide show. Weird choice of mucic... but whatev. Here's a few classics I noticed are mssing: The Bobsled, Z-Force, Enterprise, Electric Rainbow, Condor.
The good ol days.
Today, if you look close enough you can see some reminisce of the old park including the Mono-Rail track behind Johnny Rockets.
ITS THE SAME OLD STOREEEEEE
I didn't see anything about Freefall in this video or the second one...
So sad to see the log ride gone. I didn't know Superman used to go higher. Was there an incident that led to operating at a lower speed?
No, when the ride opened the launch system was new, as years go by the launch system became weaker so it wasn’t hitting the breaks anymore at the top. went here in 1971 it was very new, only remember the gold rusher s he coaster

Seeing these old photos only shows how unkempt and run down MM is looking these days. It was a much cleaner park 20 years ago.
No Magic Pagoda?
De ja vu was defunct in 2011 and replaced with west coast racers in 2019, in 2020 it opened to the public
The parks glow up 1971 2024. Is there a video about supermans glow up
