    I find it hard to call a brand new truck with hardly any on the road as the truck of the year simply based off its previous models and a preproduction test model. Sure it has potential but it has not been tested enough to be called truck of the year considering the competition put up against it.

    I don't believe Truck of the Year should automatically be given to a brand new truck. I think it should be given to the BEST truck. And the Tacoma objectively is not the best truck.

      This is a joke they should give their heads a shake just because they drove it 3-4 days that's not nearly enough time to name it truck of the year. Nobody owns one yet. Putting out these videos down grades their credibility.

      Agreed 100% the Tacoma shouldn't have won. A lot of things on Ford and Chevy's are way better than the tacoma. Plus it ain't even a full size truck. Its a mid size. Towing sucks, power sucks, ground clearance sucks. The chevy 2500 and F250 are way better.

  • @denisleblanc4506

    Without considering reliability I personally thought the Colorado should have won. It's more powerful and as capable as the Taco TRD Off-road that you actually tested. To top it off is considerably cheaper. The only big difference in the two is the coil springs in the rear of the Taco. If you want to consider reliability I can argue the GM 2.7 is actually already well tested in the real world compared to the Taco turbo that they admit is almost 50% new so not really tested in the rear world. You can't talk about the hybrid Taco yet because it isn't released. We just have to wait and see with more testing how good the Taco is now and will be. One thing is certain, it would have to very very good to justify the price they will be asking and this year you're going to get the new Ranger and Ranger Raptor the may very well be cheaper than the Taco TRD Pro or Trailhunter.

      Any truck that you have use low range to go up a mild hill climb, because it doesn't have enough tourgue down low, is out of running automatically. Toyota manged to accomplish that, so it was doable, but I will say not having lockers in front was a miss, but they do have good enough option with there electronics for most people

    • @is6566
      @is6566 10 місяців тому +3

      @user… You never “ordered” the ‘21 either. You were just lucky that what you wanted matched up exactly to an allocation that Toyota gave to your dealer. Now, your dealer might have lied to you (would a dealer ever lie??? Shocker!!) and said look I just got you a truck built per your specifications but that wasn’t true in 2021 and not true today. So, nothing changed, other than that you lost your innocence and now you know that Toyota doesn’t let people “order”. They just build trucks what they want, paint them to colors what they want and then allocate them to dealers as Toyota want it to be allocated.

      How it your Tacoma?

    • @is6566
      @is6566 10 місяців тому +1

      @user… You had to wait 5 months because that long it took Toyota to allocate your dealer the car that matched your requirements. 😃 Dealers will not tell you this (some honest dealers will to be fair). But most will not because by doing so they would implicitly tell you to just do a national search of available cars at any dealership in the US, instead of waiting for 5 months.
      I don’t have a Taco. I purchased a GR Corolla before and getting it without $10k markup required calling dozens of dealers all over the US and flying and 1,000-mile road trip.

    • @paulm6481
      @paulm6481 9 місяців тому +1

      @is6566 Yes it goes against dealer allocation. Here in Atlanta they are upfront about that. I ordered a 2022 TrD sport blue crush with wheels I wanted and no sunroof and tonneau cover and side entry bars and a few other options. Exactly what I wanted. Waited for 4 months and followed it once VIN was allocated. You can call it what you want, but that dealer would not have ordered that particular spec. In Atlanta, dealer get number of Tacomas to order based on their prior quarter sales. Sometimes yearly sales. They can order how they choose or how their customers choose.

Been blessed to be an airline captain flying into Canada almost 30% if my flying over the years. Feels like home except both countries need to return to their roots of developing independent,
    self reliant men and women who choose to organize and assist one another not by compulsion but by desire and common interests.
    Enjoy your truck reviews. Especially enjoyed the GM truck factory tour and watching you start using the new pickup.
    Sometime I’d really appreciate somone explaining how we determine how to select the right pickup for someone who cannot get a CDL. I’m retired from aviation due to medical issues. I can’t get a CDL but sure could use one. When I stopped flying, I started a construction company. Pulling a dump trailer and cargo trailers is beneficial. Ideally I’d like to max out a pickup trailer right up to what’s under CDL requirements. The rules are confusing to me. I read any trailer over 10,000 needs a CDL but then know guys towing 14,000 lbs trailers with no CDL. Also, why can I buy a HD pickup and pay to certify at 10,000 < GVWR or greater than 10,000 GVWR?
    Appreciate what you all do. Enjoy the new truck.

    Happy New Year Truck King. Your Channel have contents that I really like.
    I sold my 2019 Tacoma TRD O/R after three years of ownership. I put a FOR SALE sign on it in front of my house. The first caller who was walking the dog past the house saw it and wanted it. It was sold literally within a few hours. I had the truck for three years and put 11.8k miles on it. I sold it for 7500.00 more than what I paid for.
    I still own a 1998 Land Cruiser, a 2007 Tacoma TRD O/R and a 2009 Tacoma extra cab 4x4 O/R. All the trucks have lots of miles but still very competent on the road. I can take them anywhere without worry.

    Ok, I’ll start by saying “FINALLY!” The seat pan issue was one major reason why I got rid of my 2010 Tacoma after only one year. The discomfort of driving for anyone over about 5’8” was horrible. This should also help the back seat passengers in the double cab. My son couldn’t even get his feet u see the rear of the front seats and had to turn practically sideways in the back. That along with the backseat headroom- again anyone over about 5’8” you couldn’t sit up straight in the back. I’ll wait to see and hear more.
    As to the towing I don’t care so much. Towing a bike trailer or small utility trailer ( couple thousand pounds) is really all these smaller trucks will do safely IMO. Fuel mileage in my 2010 Taco was just so so, and me the 2011 f150 crew actually beat my Tacoma both around town and on the highway so any improvement is good. Power with the turbo is adequate as well and if I were buying this truck I’d have no real use for the hybrid model.
    Give if this truck the gold medal is wrong. You said it yourself. Tacoma kept a lot of basic features- less electronics than any of the major US manufacturers is not a bragging right. Apples to apples guys. It will be interesting ti compare head to head “without points for your personal views” as they can too easily be skewed by some manufacturer giving you personal incentives- kinda like the US Congress and Senate bribes. Yeah, Toyota is a good truck and the thing that’s kept it is brand loyalty not that it’s better, it’s just hardened by the lack of refinement over similar offerings from other manufacturers.
    The future with these trucks is good in any event. Many of us have no desire for an EV and I will give it majors points for the standard models without.

    Truck of the year should be truck vs other trucks. Your selection and reasons for it, was essentially the new tacoma vs the old. As you stated, Toyota just fixed things that they should have from the previous generation. But is this truck better than the other trucks? It isn't. I've been driving Tacomas my whole life until I bought my GMC AT4X. It is better than my 2nd gen tacoma in every way. The toyota interior looks like it was designed by fisher price compared to the GMC. The Toyota tech lags way behind the GMC. Maybe next year you can actually compare truck vs truck and not truck vs its former gen.

    Terrible review. You can't compare the Tacoma to full size pick up trucks. Its like comparing apples to oranges. It might be the best mid size truck compared to the Colorado and Ranger but it definitely ain't truck of the year. You gotta keep things in classes. Full size and mid size are 2 different categories are both are extremely different. Y'all are probably basing things off sales. It might be popular in terms of sales because its the most affordable but the specs are trash. You can't do nothing with a little Tacoma. Can't tow, can't off-road, can't load the bed down with stuff, etc. Its a city boys pickup truck. A Prius with a bed. Ain't nobody that drive a Tacoma using it to do real work because you can't. The tacoma ain't a real truck. Calling it a truck is like calling the Honda Ridgeline a truck.

My son drives a Tacoma, great truck, but at 6’5” tall and weighing about 230 lbs, I’m not the largest guy around, but I cannot fit in that truck comfortably. I’ve been in Nissan and Honda cars that have more leg room. It’s especially bad when going off road because my knees bang against the dash board and my head gets slammed into the roof. It happens in full size trucks sometimes as well, but at least I don’t have under go concussion protocols afterwards.

    From what is out right now, gotta agree. The Toyota just hits all the needs. Even with part of its lineup not even released yet. The engine has plenty of power. Even though the GM beats it, the Hybrid will change that. Choices and option packages are much better than the GM twins offer. The TRD Sport is on par with the best GM offers short of the ZR2/AT4X. And the Off-Road goes even farther with still two more trims left. And Taco Limited makes a Denali look like a base Chevy LT with its luxury. More expensive but you get more.

    It is a great ruck except for the larger sized folks. When you and your dad are in it driving rubbing shoulders while driving it made me cringe, just not enough room. For the 6 foot and over crowd it is not a great fit but is a improvement over the previous generation but I feel they did not quite go far enough in adding a bit more room. Power also lags behind others in the segment except for the Frontier.

    The Tacoma is certainly worthy of being Truck of the year. But the option packaging leaves much to be desired and simply prices many people out of the market to be able to get what they want. For example, they now offer a manual transmission, but it is not available on any of the Extra cab models. And speaking of the Extra cab, where did the access doors go? They just made that model a PITA to use. And simple options that many of us would love to have like factory bed lights that used to be a $150 option, are now only available in a $3000 option package! The packaging people need to be slapped.

My truck is used for truck things. I have a car to haul people in. But if their goal was to have an excuse to delete the "Extra Cab" from the lineup, what better way than to make it as unappealing as possible by making it a nuisance to use. That way they can say next gen. "We just didn't sell enough of them." Well duuuuhh, what did you think would happen when you made it impossible to use.
