Can hear the cop “Show me your fcuking hands”. I’m not a fan of how much power we put in the cops hands but it must be hard to not accidentally discharge your firearm into this creature.
Same. That call really got to me. Her voice in that call was heartbreaking and disturbing. She’s so strong and she could have been another victim but luck was on her side that day I guess.
I've been a 911 dispatcher for almost 10 years and I was just holding my breath the whole time hearing this. Also, I'm fucking furious with the dispatcher because she put that girl in GREAT danger by asking her 1,000 dumb ass questions. Keep her on the line and tell her to be quiet. That's all you do after the address and what's going on.
i would have called 911 many times if it would have done any good, his uncle & cousin his whole family supported his abusive behavior. many in his family in law enforcement
I agree. She had already told you her situation while in grave danger and sheer terror, so save her first and then ask her name and other details for your paperwork.
And look, EVERY person thinks we ask too many questions and that all questions are dumb and a waste of time. So not true, but it can feel like that when you’re awaiting help. Also, it’s policy everywhere I’ve worked to ask the address, confirm it, find out what’s going on, and dispatch ASAP. Then ask more questions. Sometimes the call taker is the dispatcher but sometimes it’s a separate person. However, we are always told to tell people (when it’s true, which should be always) that help is ALREADY on the way and our questions aren’t slowing it down.
To be in a situation where most people would freeze through shear terror, Jane Doe showed immense courage and probably save dozens of lives. I hope she has been able to create new happier memories.
Thank goodness he sleeps heavy. I understand the operator needs to get information but asking that many questions when your abductor is laying next to you is scary.
I’m no expert but after listening to so many 911 calls I’d say it’s to keep the victim on the phone and trying to get more information from them that they perhaps would have missed with another question. It keeps them on the phone while the radar is able to track the location.

the call is edited. i believe there's a heart racing moment where the cops were about to leave! and she tells the dispatcher to tell them to come back quick. it's more intense than what was played in this video.
if you think that was intense search youtube: shawn grate 911 call and listen to the entire call. after that.. a real f'd up one....911 call brian sweat.. youre welcome
knight Owl - for real yo! I was just thinking of how big that chicks balls had to have been at that moment to grab his phone and make that call. Glad she did. Fucking thought girl right there. She's going down in history!
I've listened to the full 911 call, it is the most terrifying thing I've ever heard, Jane doe is a heroic survivor, thank goodness for her determination and will to live, who knows how many people she saved, what a hero.
Jane Doe, you were so brave to grab his cellphone while he slept!!! You saved yourself & countless other women from certain death!! ❤️. This guy is SO CREEPY!!! Living inside a couch?! Deserved all the sentences he received!!
Imagine being the guy Shawn “demonstrated” how he killed previously. Literally in the arms/hands of a killer, being held by the same man, the same way that multiple women were in their last moments. So creepy.
The guy's reaction kind of showed his instinct to resist. His arm comes up to defend himself. I'm sure some of that was training, but yeah that would feel vulnerable.
this reminds me of "once you see it" picture where the two women are sitting on the couch and you can barely see his eye under the couch....anyone else? Lol
the longer the phone call lasted the the more scared I got that he was going to wake up when the dispatcher kept engaging her and she kept answering questions. I really appreciate the woman telling her that she didn't need to talk but I get that it's easier to find the location of the phonecall if they don't hang up. what an incredibly brave woman who managed to save herself and countless others.
You should listen to the whole call if you havent. Its like almost 20minutes long and frustrating! Like damn stop asking thwle same question over and over. Like "Can you open the door of the bedroom?" After Jane Doe already explained the situation very clearly. Door was barricaded and she was scared to wake him.. because it would be loud. Why ask her same question? And also the police got to the house but it seemed like they werent sure which house it was so they get to the door and then werent sure so they left and went to the house next door. Like damn! She already explained it was the yellow house on the left!!! Kick the door and get her out!
@@jenniferallen4420 Man, the call is overly frustrating. I can understand that maybe this kind of story (abductee escapes her bindings to call police on abductor's cell phone and can't get out due to door making noise) can seem far fetched, but the original full-length call made me want to shake the operator a few times listening to it. This type of situation is super rare but that doesn't mean you don't take the call seriously and watch out for the caller's safety. Better to show up and have it be a hoax or a mentally unstable person than to be late and find a dead woman.
Can you imagine being Jane Doe's parents??? The tremendous relief they must have felt that Jane had such bravery!! She was so close to being the next rotting body!
Oh my god what a terrifying story. That phone call was brutal. She was so brave to take his phone (which I’m assuming was physically on him), make that phone call in the room while he slept and to face him in court. Not only did she save her own life, she saved countless others because he never would’ve stopped.
@@S.D1010 the actual 911 call is much longer, the police are outside and can't find a way, and even leave for a short time because the house was abandoned and they didn't think anyone was inside.
itsmackenzie holy crap that makes this even more terrifying! She’s brave and also very lucky it seems. She saw her opportunity and took it (whereas lot of people would’ve been frozen in fear) but she also had lady luck on her side (or the divine, for those who believe) in that he didn’t hear her or the cops outside and wake up. I can see a pitiful disgrace for a human like that shooting when cornered.

Why was he freed after 4 years when he was trying to kill someone!? If he was sentenced appropriately he wouldn’t have been free to commit further crimes. What a failure of justice.
Here in Ohio, the abuser is always given the benefit of the doubt and the victim is treated as if she's lying about the abuse. Not long ago a woman asked for a protection order from her abusive husband. Even though there were police records of abuse in the past she was denied. Two days later she was dead because her husband killed her. The judge who denied the protection order was told to step down or be terminated. Victims are at a great disadvantage when they're labeled as nothing more than hysterical females. And of course, the abuser always denies the abuse. Innocent until proven guilty and even after guilt is proved, sometimes they're still declared innocent or the judge decides the abuse was justified so he hands down a light sentence. We need more female judges on the bench and less old farts who still believe women should be kept in their place.
And then freed again after only 180 days for the 2nd time he was arrested trying to kill someone in exact same way! He was looking for justice but there was just none to be found in America... he should have tried drugs instead if he needed a place to stay (jail) for longer
“Jane Doe” is a very brave women to make that call with him sleeping in the same room whilst using his own phone nonetheless knowing he could wake at anytime and kill her.
She probably knew at that point he would kill her either way. If she got caught calling 911 he kill her, if she did nothing he'd kill her eventually so
Yeah , well done to her , less he may still be running around still killing people ! Normally I'm against the death penalty , but when you hear stories like this ?
Wait so he beat up his girlfriend to the point she had to go to the emergency room, then evaded the cops, and then was found in her couch ready to do god knows what...and was sentenced to 180 days in jail? Lmao what a joke our justice system is.
If anyone ever tries to abduct you, fight for your life. Because your life does depend on those next few moments. It's far better to fight where you are, than to go with the kidnapper or murderer. They've got evil evil evil on their minds, and once alone..there's no one or nothing to stop them. So fight for your life right where you are. I'd rather die in the streets fighting for my life than to live for hours, days, weeks or months of torture only to still die. Jane Doe might have survived, but I guarantee hardly a day goes by she doesn't have to relive that torment. She's the real hero in this story.
Totally agree. Some people are so scared they will go with them. Fight and scream where you are. Keep them scared of getting caught and /or causing a scene. And if you have time, maim that fucker
As a juror on this trial....it will always haunt me! The things I had to hear...the things I had to see...the things I had to think about...will never leave my mind. It has by far been the worst thing I've had to experience in my 38 yrs of life! I had a part in sentencing him to death in Ashland Ohio!
What makes it worse is that the 911 operator keeps loudly asking her irrelevant questions and doesn't let her just quietly wait for the police so as to avoid waking him up.
@@drbqqq1433 in my opionion i see it as a way to keep making sure she was still safe and not caught. the operator probably wanted to know she got out safe with the police.. idk pls lemme know otherwise :)

The dispatcher asked a 1000 questions & didn't seem to take her seriously. I commend Jane Doe for her courage. She saved her own life as well as many that would have come after. Also, her bravery gave peace to many lives lost & brought down a serial killer.
Mischa Romo she was sobbing? I didn’t hear anything. Just a long pause... Dam it’s still sad though. We don’t know anything about her or how she met him. Only that she was baited by free clothes... But I guess it was her choice to not let anything public.

Do these emergency dispatchers ever consider lowering the volume of their voice in these scenarios? Or are they told specifically that they can't? It's just...that first call, I really feel like that would easily wake people around me.
I thought the same to start with... but then it occurred to me that Jane Doe had probably turned the volume right down on the phone's speaker anyway so Grate wouldn't hear the dial tone or the person answering the call. And I'm sure Jane would have shushed the operator if she was too loud. Also, it was important for the 911 operator to communicate clearly the first time since lowering their voice might mean Jane couldn't understand what they said & she'd have to speak unnecessarily.

Insanity this isn’t about men vs women. This is a PSA about violent men for other men or women, clearly she knows women can also be violent. Don’t get upset because she called out a gender you subscribe to. If you want to be productive, say “PSA to all men as well, although you believe she will change in her violent ways, she will not. And even if she does, don’t stick around and wait for it to happen”. Be progressive.
Lex Sao Paolo This specific case and specific comment doesn’t apply to men. This is a PSA to women because the video is in reference to a man being the abuser. Don’t make this about your need to constantly be included in the conversation when OP didn’t say anything like “remember: only men can be violet ladies, don’t feel guilty for leaving them”. I don’t understand why your need to disagree with the manner of how the person said it overwhelms you just saying “I agree!”. Considering 1 and 4 women and 1 in 9 men experience some form of violence, it’s not the craziest thing in the word to only target women (or anyone who dates a violent man) in the comments of a video where a violent man adds to the 1 in 4 statistic. Nonsensical. No one read her comment and thought “ahhh, so I guess women never abuse people”.
The most interesting thing about Sean Grates interrogations is that he was initially interrogated by a male detective who could not get Sean to open up about anything. They then switched to a female detective and Sean opened up completely and poured his heart out, which is strange considering he literally thinks women are worth scorn. Maybe he didn't see her as a threat or maybe he's so ashamed he couldn't say what he had done to another man. Very creepy and very dark.
Maybe he did that BECAUSE he views her as an inferior human being so it doesn't make any difference in his ego besides to shows how "stronger" he was in comparison to his victims (women). He doesn't open up because he is sensible

A little bit of an update: he is still o death row and will likely stay there for years due to complicated death row processes in Ohio and lots of appeals set to happen One interesting thing is that the house he did this in was demolished in feb 2020.
Two more interesting things: A grave marker monument company is now open-air storing grave markers right next to the vacant site where the house was where he murdered two of his victims, giving things an even more creepier vibe. #2: A building used in the film "Shawshank Redemption" can be seen in the background of some photos of the house where Grate killed two women and held Jane Doe hostage.

I'm so glad Jane Doe lived, that 911 call was harrowing.
Four service pistols pointed between the eyes and the dude he's demonstrating on are all just hoping for a reason to save the taxpayer's money.
That detective could snap him like a twig if Shaun tried something stupid.

You should listen to the whole call if you havent. Its like almost 20minutes long and frustrating! Like damn stop asking thwle same question over and over. Like "Can you open the door of the bedroom?"
After Jane Doe already explained the situation very clearly.

Do these emergency dispatchers ever consider lowering the volume of their voice in these scenarios? Or are they told specifically that they can't? It's just...that first call, I really feel like that would easily wake people around me.
That made me crazy, I would be whispering, she was so loud.
I can't stand most of these calls. Their lack of compassion, communication, and professionalism. So many dispatchers actually don't care. It's insane.

"If I caused any hate, any bitterness..." IF? Really? WTH?
I can't remember the last time I felt such a sense of relief as when I heard the cops get to her. Amazing.
He came into a bar I was working at and even then he made me feel uncomfortable. Just the way he looked. I had to walk home a few times and after I found out what he did, I was so greatful nothing happened to me
Omg girl .. thank God you are okay !! 🥺
Yea ok
*grateful
Killers don’t have a look, don’t be ridiculous.
@Olli Rolli maybe your instincts aren't as well honed as some others. Personally, my gut let's me know loud and clear when there's someone who's "off" around me. If you don't get those "vibes",I kinda pity you.
Will it guarantee my safety, of course not but it's a very real, very human instinct.
It's going to be a sad, sad day when I've finally binge watched all Mike previous uploads.
If that woman's "there's a full grown man in my couch" senses weren't tingling she woulda been another victim. Good on her. Wtf kinda couch does she have
Tehy call it a high riser, lol.
IKR? Good job she listened to her instinct 🙏
probably one of those pull out bed type couches
Typically there's a pull out bed in there lol
a transparent one
He's crying for himself not the victims, what a PoS.
calia x makes me want to puke listening to him. 💩
@Guzek Szopenski Piece of sh**
He's a sociopath. He can cry and apologize, but only when others expect that from him.
The POS isn’t crying, but mimicking human behavior.
11:05 How incompetent are detectives and medical examiners?? A strangulation ruled an overdose? THAT should be the news story!
Asphyxiation could conceivably be the result of strangulation OR drug overdose-induced vomiting, but even still, there surely would have needed to be bloodwork done confirming the presence of drugs in her system at the time of death for it to be ruled an overdose....Right? Maybe he drugged her at some point before murdering her? I'm kinda grasping at straws here...
@@adriatic.vineyards Grasping too hard. The real truth, as someone who has lived and known some of Ashland's finest is that they are lazy small town morons. Since their gestapo like authority is rarely challenged, they manage to get away with a lot. I've heard of them blaming child victims for molestation, a friend of mine was arrested as a kid and I believe the Sheriff pulled his pants down to look at his naked ass. I know someone who was consistently harassed by an Ashland cop, who would break into his home and steal marijuana. That cop was later arrested himself for rape and drug dealing. Ashland has probably some of the most corrupt police I've ever seen.
@@Man_of_Tomorrow until we get civilian review boards this will continue to be commonplace.
@@Man_of_Tomorrow Wow. Thank you for this interesting and unique viewpoint. As someone who has lived in small towns much of my life I know these things are very often too true.
Crying voice without tears 😭 Serial killers usually don’t give up all the victims they like to know about more & not disclose em!! No way didn’t kill others in between those yrs of victims he told about. Jane Doe lucky 🍀 she got away to expose him, or who knows how many more there may have been 🌹🌹
Psychopaths change persona so much they literally change appearance physically. Scary stuff.
Narcissistic society. Inner sanctum - Gonna say - he looked different throughout this video
I believe my husband was a psychopath. In old photos of him I didn’t even recognize it was him. And we have been married for five years at that time. I also discovered clothes styles he never would have worn. They are shape shifters!!!!
Throughout this video this guy look like five different people, same thing with my husband. I found old drivers license of my husband. Three of them, They all had different height and eyecolor on his drivers license. I guess the DMV doesn’t question you.
Knowyour Love - Or he did it on purpose. BTW; All DMVs are STATE WORKERS hence the oxymoron‼️
No no. Religion does
A lot of people change the way they physically look lol. Has nothing to do with being a psychopath...
Caller: whispers
911 operator: *DOES HE HAVE ANY WEAPONS?!*
That was so painful. 🤦🏻♂️
Not as bad as, “Is there any way you can get out of the building?” If she could-why would she be in the same room with him calling you. 🤨
@Log Splitta Missed the point there, bucko. It was about the nosie.
@Log Splitta bold print, all caps and exlamation point are all dead giveaways
My mama worked 911 dispatch for 15+ years. In this video the reason it sounds like the operator is speaking so loudly is because the recording is from the headset she is wearing. She isn't actually yelling into the phone, she's just speaking but the microphone is directly next to her mouth.
They ask those questions as standard protocol.
It’s a damn shame that people that have mental issues and or drug addictions are not seen as people. No one cared these women were missing.
Yeah. The thing with opiate/meth addicts is that it's normal for them to disappear for long periods of time and not contact anyone, so their loved ones are used to it and are desensitized.
@@hairystyles4212 I think this is the problem, not society thinking less of drug addicts.
It is the same reason some men get away with preying on prostitutes. It is disgusting.
It's disgusting. All people are equal in the eyes of the Lord. The most healthy person and the most mentally ill and those suffering from debilitating substance use disorders that will eventually kill them 50 years too soon. God doesn't play favorites. And if you don't believe in God you should at least just believe that people are equal just because it's the decent thing to believe.
@@haroldbalzac6336 oh I assure you society does think less of those with substance abuse disorder...that is why they put them in jail with murderers and child molesters way more often than not without a doctor where they then brutally withdraw at great danger to their health in so many cases. One man in the U S A lost 50 pounds in two weeks withdrawing from his methadone treatment and anxiety medications they refused to continue to treat him with in jail and died the second week after multiple prisoners told staff he was obviously going to die. They didn't care. So so very sad.
That guy who let a known serial killer demonstrate on him how he used a sleeper hold to kill his victim has giant brass clangers the size of the Liberty Bell.
Jane Doe had a lot of heart and courage to make that call. God bless her.
I would not trust a serial killer to demonstrate how he killed his victims, on me
Exactly!!! it only would take one second to break that man's neck!!!
Same!! Eughhhh... I hate that monster so much for the hurt & pain he caused to SOOO many - from his girlfriends to his future murder & rape victims... & of course the pain he inflicted upon those left to pick up the pieces of their lives after losing the people they loved.
My heart breaks every time I hear about this kind of crap.
#RIP 💔
That chicken cant hurt adult man, he would have his hands broken. They are all frustrated sick cowards, thats why they mostly attack girls and weak ones.
@@shogunbj True. I forgot.
@@shogunbj Actually serial murder is usually a sexual thing, so they prey on females because that's what they're attracted to. Would you screw the same gender for sexual gratification if you're straight? Of course not. Also, there are some serial murderers such as Edmund Kemper who can easily snap a man's neck.
I've listened to the 911 call and it's scary as hell listening to her trying to get help but not wake him up. I'm glad the cops were able to find her alive. Great job covering this story.
Being there is almost 8,000 comments, I'm sure someone has mentioned that another UA-cam channel has the full interrogation. It really is chilling and despite how sick it is, you can't stop listening to every word he says. How deep it goes. Lot of the meaning behind the killings he discloses while being interviewed. I highly suggest to find it and give it a listen.
My God, this is so disturbing!! That phone call in the beginning has my anxiety on high!!! 😭 She is a true hero, I'm sure she saved countless lives, very brave!!
holy just listening to that call was terrifying.
That damn 911 operator was talking SO FREAKING LOUD!!! Holy cow...
@@asdf-JKLL that would just be the recording. It doesn't reflect what was heard on jane does phone.
That poor woman! You can hear the absolute terror in her voice. I hope she has found peace after what she's been through. My heart goes out to her.

911: have u tried just leaving the house ???
He had the door rigged

And don’t forget... “is there a bathroom?”
No Bitch, he lives on Little House on the Prairie.
Lmao sometimes I just don’t understand these dispatchers 😂🤦🏽♀️
Erin Watters Lol. With an outhouse.
I recently watched another video that was just the 911 call and full 3 hr interrogation. This video goes into much deeper and more information so I'm really glad I found it to learn more about this case. It disturbed me greatly. I also want to give a big shout out to Jane Doe. Her bravery probably saved countless other girls' lives. Way to go girl!
When I hear stories like this, it makes me feel so grateful that we have 911.
Word. I'm personally thankful for 911, it saved my life as well once, when my ex was choking me to death. I only got out "Help me! He's going to .." before he grabbed my phone and smashed it. The cops arrived less than five minutes later (although at the time it seemed like longer), burst through our front door and knocked him off of me and pushed him face down on the floor so fast. I was so relieved that I just layed there on the floor and started sobbing like a baby. Those guys are my heroes forever. Thank God for what they do
"Grateful" might not be the best word choice, here... 🤔
e l e n a Look at it this way you’re fine now and no damage was done to you or anyone else. So everything worked out ok without them.
Their system isn’t flawless but most are pretty close.

A little bit of an update: he is still o death row and will likely stay there for years due to complicated death row processes in Ohio and lots of appeals set to happen
One interesting thing is that the house he did this in was demolished in feb 2020.
Thank you for the update
Nobody wanna live there
@@A6Legit now even the land is tainted. i STILL wouldnt live there or around there
Two more interesting things: A grave marker monument company is now open-air storing grave markers right next to the vacant site where the house was where he murdered two of his victims, giving things an even more creepier vibe.
#2: A building used in the film "Shawshank Redemption" can be seen in the background of some photos of the house where Grate killed two women and held Jane Doe hostage.
These older vids of three years or so, Mike is more somber; serious. I like how he becomes more animated as the years go by. His jolliness makes it much easier to deal with these horrific crimes. Well done Mikey!!
