I already own one of the first models, but the brighter tone of these makes them temping to buy one as well. It's also nice to hear someone do some tasty playing instead of just slap and pop the whole time.
I’m glad you liked it! I am not real big on slap in the best of times, so when I see the demos or reviews that are mostly slap (or just super clicky, mid scooped tones) I feel like I got no real idea what it would sound like in a functional way.
@@jimcampbell8061 I know the pickups are different, if nothing else, but I don’t currently own a professional 1 to compare otherwise. For what it counts, this one is significantly lighter and more resonant than the pro 1 jazz bass I had.
I'd like to hear this with some nice La Bella flats on it. I'm old school, as in 76 years old school! Ha! I used to see Carol Kaye nearly every day when I worked at Gold Star! She inspired me to get my chops together when I was only 19! (they weren't called the Wrecking Crew then....just the A-list players, her, Hal, Earl Palmer, Tommy Tedesco, Glen Campbell, I actually got a paycheck for sweepin' the floors and setting up mics and music stands. hahaha... Best music lessons EVER! Did end up with a pro-bass career. Search Mike Posts TV stuff... I did quite a few of those, but Lee Sklar and Lyle Ritz were the first call guys... Keep it up, you sound great!

There use to be a color similar in the Player series called Sage Green. Unfortunately that color is discontinued and a rare gem to find in the used market!!!
Sage green is more flat, this has metallic sheen or even sparkle to it. There is a sage green player precision available on reverb as of today, but I would buy an antique green American pro…

Fender Precisions are legendary for a good reason!! Even today they are still holding their own!! Beautiful instrument, and you make it sound real good!!
I recently bought one of these as well, and I really love it. I usually have the tone rolled all the way down, but your finger playing with tone halfway sounded nicest to my ears here. (They all sounded super nice, though)
In band situations going into higher registers too much will suck the bottom end out of a song. There are good reasons that notes below the fifth fret are referred to as the "money notes"
@@jimcampbell8061 maybe - but there are a lot of bands that successfully sit in the higher registers. The bass playing in the Australian band The Church is almost entirely in higher registers. A lot of Joy Division was in the higher register.
@@zoeherriot I think hook using the clone theory gave the high notes some substance. Not like he had a choice anyway, iirc the frets on his hondo II were crap. Ian did encourage him to play higher too.
you know baritone guitars? their main register is the one that you mentioned in the comment,check some bands that use that instrument like the fearless flyers,i´m sure u would love their sound :)

Great play, great feeling overall. Fender is now making really good instruments again, there was a weaker period, but that's over. You don't really need a custom shop bass, also for the money, I guess you know😉...the standard basses are really excellent. I own an Adam Clayton Jazz Bass and this bass is so incredibly good. But I'm also thinking about a P Bass PRO II, the sound, quality and look are convincing! A J and a P Bass is basically all you need. ☝️
Saaaame! Recording with it the past few weeks has been interesting - the coils have two different kinds of magnets for the low strings and the high strings, and with a pick and headphones it’s pretty obvious that the character is a bit different.
Thanks! Totally fair, though I’d like to give the caveat that there was no EQ at all on this, and the DI brings out all those bright little details. That said, I don’t play with picks all that often, unless a studio date asks for it.
Great instrument! How it to compare with Performer version? I have the last one and think to buy Pro version. I am looking for classic Precision tone. PJ, in my opinion, can't give it fully. Or maybe i'm wrong?
I’ve only tried the performer in passing, but I will say that this one of my favorite fender basses I’ve ever played. I have several PJ basses, but for the most part yea, my p basses just have a different sort of vibe to them. I couldn’t say exactly why, really, and won’t try to speculate other than to say that they are different to me. That said, I am infinitely more picky about having my action set how I like. If a bass can do that, chances are I’ll like it. My Yamaha bbp34 is a great example for having an absurdly low action.
Dammit! I have always thought of myself as a jazz bass guy, but I might have to reconsider. And learn to play as well as Juliet. Dang. I’ve got some work to do.
Hello, I bought this bass, probably because of this video :) It arrived yesterdey and it sounds great to me however I am not very happy with the manufacturing quality, especially the neck pocket. There is a gap from one side which is not even straight. How about your bass? Do you have any issues? I thought that for the money there shouldnt be issues or maybe its normal? Sorry that at the end but I really adore your playing :)
Oh no, I’m sorry the quality isn’t up to par, but thank you for the compliment! So, full disclaimer before I get into my issues with the bass, because my response might get a little long: I am super, super picky. Like, bring my tools to any gig for tiny adjustments sort of picky. My preferred action is 1-1.5 mm on the treble side, and this bass just wouldn’t do that, even with shimming the neck. The playability was fine in terms of shape of the neck and weight, but the qc of the neck pocket definitely left a lot to be desired for me and the way they did the bolt design simply doesn’t hold the treble side down with enough force, so there was always a gap. Part of why I don’t say anything in videos is because I want to give people the chance to listen and decide for themselves; if I were to go by my own standards, it would be a pretty short list. So few that I started learning to make my own instruments about it! My Yamaha bbp34 is one of the only production basses I’ve ever played or even seen that does everything I want.
I really appreciate your honest opinion. It seems that It is normal for Fender quality but totally annoying. Do you still have this bass? As it is hard to spot these instruments in the local music shop I bought it on thomann so I have time to think about getting it back however I love the look of it and will propably keep it. I noticed that in the pictures that are online they all are taken at the angle that you cant see this neck gap :) I have many electric guitars from low to high end and are nothing to blame. Generally I am not a bass player but want to learn and this is just my first bass and there might be more issues with regulating and other things that I am not aware now :) thank you and there is another subscriber :) Ps. So glad I could help you decide! At the moment I have GHS round wound boomers on it, 40-95. I’m debating grabbing some of the thomastik strings to try, but haven’t decided if I’m going to do the flats or rounds. I tend towards really low tension strings and the lowest action I can get, so I’m real picky about flats!

I have a set of Thomastik-Infeld Flats on my Ric 4003s they sound amazing and those Flats are definitely staying on that bass forever lol. Yeah TI Flats are really low on tension but I like them. When I get this bass I'm putting a set of Labella's 760fs flats that I already have.

Thank you! And yea, p basses are a super solid choice for most kinds of music. If you’re playing something really downtuned you might want a bridge pickup so you can get a bit more definition, but otherwise it’s a classic for a reason!
Remarkably light! I’m a pretty willowy lady and heavy instruments can bug my back during long sets, but this bass is probably 8 pounds on the dot. I’ll have to weigh it after my trip is done!

just buy a 1 meg tone pot. They're like 5 quid vs another 1700 for an almost identical bass

This sounds awesome and great playing! I’m a guitar player, but I need a Bass for recording. Would a P Bass be a good all around choice do you think? I can only justify buying one.
Thank you! And yea, p basses are a super solid choice for most kinds of music. If you’re playing something really downtuned you might want a bridge pickup so you can get a bit more definition, but otherwise it’s a classic for a reason!

Remarkably light! I’m a pretty willowy lady and heavy instruments can bug my back during long sets, but this bass is probably 8 pounds on the dot. I’ll have to weigh it after my trip is done!

For the sound, it’s a toss up! I like both for different reasons. For the ergonomics, the dimarzios.
