I retired in India and very very happy. If I need to live same quality of life I need min spend $150k per annum in western country. I'm very happy and I got my chiildhood back. Living in western world I always felt missing something and felt that I did not belong to that place.

I'm a patriotic Indian too, but I'm not blind. Before saying such things please visit other countries, understand how their systems work, how their government takes care of them and then comment. Otherwise this is just empty rhetoric. India has a long long way to go before it becomes the best
How come your kids moved back to Canada? For people to come back to India, girls have to feel safe on the roads. Corruption has to stop and there has to be religious freedom and freedom of speech.
Every person has their own choice on what they want to do at a given stage in life. No place is perfect but things have evolved a lot ( girls are safe on indian roads unless you are in some shady pockets for sure; which is case anywhere in the world)
@@DesiReturn I think it is very clear. She is opportunitistic. She made the best of her career overseas. Then she got her kids western passport and packed them off. Her retirement she spent in India because it is cheap. That is all there is to it. All this India is great and India has arrived, is all BS.

Coming back to india is emotional decision.. especially for taking care of aging parents, spending time with them, be with them in their difficult time.. DO NOT EXPECT anything better
1. You won't get better roads, less pollution or better hygiene
2. You will daily face folks with zero civic sense, not respectful to rules or our own country
3. Poor food quality at most places
4. Bad or worst education
So folks..don't expect quality of life or anything..its pure emotional decision and if you care for parents...just move and accept reality 🎉🎉

After living in USA for more than a decade, I moved back to India 2 years ago with my family. We have a girl and a boy who are in elementary school. It's the best decision we have made. Yes, there are some drawbacks like traffic and other things, but still, it's worth the move.

As an immigrant living in USA for the past 30 years, I have to disagree with some of the things she mentioned. I do have house maid that come once a week which is all you need to clean my home. I have a lawn guy that mows my lawn and i am able to grow all the tropical fruits I want as i live in Florida same weather as in India. She talked about not being able to send back the food in restaurant if you are not satisfied is not true. My kids able to get good education at no cost to me. The medical system here is unmatched to any country in the world. Of course there is something I miss like food, relatives........

The medical system here is unmatched!! What are you talking about? I do agree with your remaining claims. But the medical system in the US is the worst!!! The US Medical system is unmatched only if the patient is about to die or is unfortunate enough to suffer a catastrophic disease like cancer. In that unfortunate case, you are better off being in the US than in India.

Love her energy n the passion for India. I spent few months in India recently due to my mother and can totally relate and agree to what she is saying. My elderly n mobility challenged mum survived alone during Covid in India (all children overseas) only cause of helpful neighbours n good samiritans. Unbelievable/Impossible in the west. 😊

Although she downplays shoveling snow, taking out the trash and other household chores, these are things that keep you active, humble and heathy. In Canada, the average Gen X or millenial is generally more active and healthy than an Indian who has the ability to have household help. Convenience is not always your friend.

It was nice to hear her extol the humanity in India which is definitely true. Of course the flip side is the amount of scams one is subject to India which is not as prevalent in the west. Important to understand that one person's experience is not a reflection of what another will experience. Sorry, just wanted to keep it balanced!
Completely agree. No place is perfect and you need to decide what is more important to you and deal with other things that come along with it. Life is like that and everyone's journey is different.

I don't see the difference, Cost of living in top 5 costliest cities in India is same as that of living abroad. Education and drinking water is free in most G7 countries. Whereas in India, they are being run as a business by business-minded people. Buying flats or apartments in most of the cities in India are becoming "in your dreams". LPG price ₹802.50, Petrol ₹94.72 per liter. Public transport is pathetic in India. And none of the Politicians are bothered about the higher cost of living.

Thank you, but I disagree. I lived in Bangalore before moving abroad. I have seen my friends who return from US struggle to find an affordable apartment without a water shortage irrespective of the area they chose to live in. On an average 2 BHK starts from 1 crore in addition the buyers are burdened by many other taxes (some hidden litigations on the area where the apartment was built). Managing water mafia's. Standing in a big queue in front of a school for kid's admission (no parent wants their kid to get low-quality education in a government school where is no basic facility? ("Politicians" send their kids abroad for good education, why not the common man?). So, perspective of living abroad and returning back to India varies from person to person.
It's not the same cost, though we often hear this from people. Here's an example - the decent place I can rent a very nice 2-3 bedroom furnished apartment in Powai (Hiranandani) or Bandra, both premium locations in India's biggest business city, I would pay Rs 75000 - 150,000 per month. That is equal to CA$ 1250 - $2500 or US$900 - 1800 for which I could barely get a 1 bedroom apartment (not a condo) in a non-premium location in Toronto or NY. The cost of eating in a 5 star in India is half the cost or less of eating in such a place in Canada or US. Same with taxis, food, groceries, maid services, and North America has rubbish public transit barring 1-2 cities. There is no cost equivalency when comparing apples to apples - India is *great* value.

I live in Vancouver ,IT job well settled but I can relate to her life choice supporting last stage of parents life. What else is there in life, she is wonderful.
But let’s not go to Road accidents I got beaten in India in accident which was not my fault just coz I was in car and other guy in bike,

I’d like to know where/how she buys dollars in India. I tried and it was like finding a coin on a beach!! If she has millionaire friends in America they are certainly not doing their own laundry, cleaning their own house, cutting their own grass, or taking out their own trash. They pay someone to do all that for them well, she’s a Modi fan no wonder. What does India hold for her? It holds a bunch of poor people who will be at her back and call. Hey, but if that’s what she needs at her time in life. More power to her I guess. You can live a great life in India with money. I heard Modi isn’t doing much for the middle class though. I paid for a hotel room to stay at before I came back to the US for a night. My friend said it was the equivalent of one month pay in India. 😳 No way. $120??? After living in the US for 50 years, I question whether I could fit in in India now. There’s definitely an appeal, but lots of questions too.

Respectfully, almost none of them thought of anything other than material comforts before moving out of India in the first place.. now the vast majority are back for servants and cheap labour which is borderline inhuman (and no, exceptions are not the norm).
I would say that's one of the factors but not major factor other wise the move wont work out. Managing domestic help is a big headache too.

May desi return to India because of visa/ job issue / parents etc given a chance Indians will live in usa . More freedom . No polical interference , good infrastructure.lats but not least Reservation . My children suffered because of reservations. Not getting admission in reputed colleges with very high mark .

Reservation is there in IVY colleges. My daughter had perfect score and highest marks in everything but couldn't get in to any IVY college. Her friend who had much less score than her but because of some other reservation reason got into IVY college.
Living in Europe I agree only with the point of loneliness. Western world is a very lonely place.
Nobody is making a patient of brain tumour wait for surgery here it is based on priority only those surgeries which are not critical are made to wait not all. People here also pick up the person and help the person if someone fell from a bike yes they will not take your number and won’t be connected but they do help on the road if an issue happened though I don’t know how it is in Canada or US.

Help is available in India? My experience is that people will leave you at the side of street to die, maybe take a picture for WhatsApp but not help you due to fear of police harassing and corrupt system, while in US there will be 10 people that will call 911 and first responder will show up in minutes.
Yes, you can get domestic help in India at a cheaper rate because indian don't pay them living wage. Indian judiciary is the most corrupt so just hope that you don't get sued in India.

The USA health system is all messed up. It is very difficult even to get appointment for tests. Most of the Indians are covered under various insurance schemes. But there are a lot of new comers with no coverage at all. This one fact alone is enough to make you return back to India. USA is only for the young and healthy. No place for old and people in need of medical help.

Well, her kids got Western passport, thats the goal everyone has. If you really feel India is great, why did you send you kids back to Canada? There in lies the answer.
I dont know getting a wester passport is goal for everyone ( I know few even though they are qualified and who doesnt want to take or took) . Every person has their own choice on what they want to do at a given stage in life.
The children were allowed to make their own choices the way I made mine. They have their destiny and are living this their way.
Passport is a nonissue. Your child with Indian passport with good education in India can always go to many countries for higher education. I have funded 10s of well qualified students from India and given them financial aid making their full education free, and they can have a decent savings from their internships.

And on the other hand, I have had issues transferring money from India, but sending from here has been a piece of cake. Not sure where you banked…
And grocery store coming out without paying 😂😂😂 if you go to a grocery store without your wallet where you are not known, I am highly doubtful they would let you in India either. During Covid humanity did prevail everywhere, especially when the delivery guy knows where you live😅😅.

You don't take children of those ages back uproot them from a country that they relate to just like you related to India. That's a crime the children struggled a lot mentally n emotionally until they moved back to where they were meant to be. The youngest was too young to feel frustrated they follow the rules of elders blindly n look for guidance from the elder .
Please stop glorifying India like this. It's all sugar coating without knowing the ground realities of India. We are light years away from achieving a developed status.

I would love to call out hypocrisy of these people. People who are moving out of USA mainly people on H1b. As backlog is building up. People are not getting their GC like other west country. Any time market goes down in USA , they loose their sponsorship from company. They need to return back to India. I saw multiple example when people were forced to return back to india from USA during covid 2020. As they loose their sponsorship. Now these people are singing song “ india is great.” on all social media group To make them feel better. My question to these people why did you move to USA in first place, if you love your country so much. It’s called hypocrisy. It reminds me saying “ Angoor Khatte hain” IT’S EASY TO DESPISE WHAT YOU CANNOT GET. 😂

People go to different countries for getting better experiences, opportunities, etc but as your priorities change in life as you age, one candidate decide what they want to do ( move to a different country, change jobs, enroll in different programs etc.,) . Going back to home country is not a failure at all!!

However, if it's really about the experience, why do many who get the chance to go abroad ensure their child is born in the USA? This way, even if they return to India, they keep the option of coming back to the U.S. open, as their American-born child can sponsor them when they turn 18. I live in the USA and have heard American managers criticize Indian IT workers, saying their main goal is to get sponsored for an H-1B visa. When these workers are sent back, they often justify their return by professing love for their homeland, seeking validation on social media. It’s quite hypocritical!

People do compare India option at various stages. And, people after returning from the US do make much more money and live a better life. You will find many examples in India if you keep your eyes and ears open. India offers a lot more investment options to make money. Also, US doesn't have UPI :) so you need to carry cash or cards. Very uncomfortable.
I love India, been there 6 times, I dont have family living there, but I would love to relocate, what are the requirements for a South African.

My friend moved his Labrador from San Francisco to Mumbai last week(jun-2024) costed him $6500 usd. Don’t know much details.
I talked to someone who relocated pet from TX to Hyd and it costed them around 2k for transportation, vaccine, certificates in US and India
After 18 your kids will move to abroad again like you did when you were young..just say it quality of life for rich buddhas is better in India then abroad becz of medical facilities😬

In conclusion Her path, get western passport spend productive years in developed country, make sure kids will ,settle in western countries. Come back to India in your late fifties and be liability to Indian government
She is a tax paying resident and how can you say she is liability to Indian government. Anyway everyone can choose their own path.
I agree with your overall point except the last. There is no social security payments in India (at least not in amounts worth mentioning), no free healthcare ( except if you are willing to go to the government hospitals and take a chance there) , no free or great quality public education system. So I don't know what liability the government is taking for someone who moves to India in old age. In fact, if you have some source of global income to support you in your old age, government will be happy to tax you for it...and provide nothing in return.

India is definitely growing and changing a lot, however, it is not even close to the quality of life, safety and peace of mind you get in western countries, environment is clean and wonderful, people are really nice while in India not all but most people are toxic and just weird and envy and jealousy is the top priority amongst many. Caste politics and religious divides makes even the biggest cities unsafe. Girls are not safe in India in any part no matter what anyone says, we have experienced this ourselves. There has to be a lot of change in the mindset of people to even be close to where it needs to be in the coming years. And no sane minded person who lives abroad would want their kids to grow up in India and that ia the reality.

NRI's guide to finding happiness..." plays into the stereotype that money is the primary factor and focus for everyone abroad and otherwise live a lonely, miserable life. Humans race has evolved 'coz they have migrated from place to place and built a community and built a life from the beginning. It is no different for current gen. Painting a cynical picture of the whole thing is misleading and not everyones reality. You are just feeding into the confirmation bias at that point.
Doing your daily chores cooking food, cleaning, backyard mowing, cleaning cloths is a normal course of life, paying others below the minimum wages for such daily jobs is exploitation not to be name as comfort. One needs to integrited in society & upgrade to better social value to live happily in it. That waiting period for medical surgery is for ppl on free govt supported treatment not for the ppl who has private insurance like compared in india. Also india 7% interest comes with 4% deperition of INR VS $ yearly. I live in India & outside in last 30 yrs & in my experience this narattion is absolutely incorrect. Look at basic infra EDUCATION, Health, Judiciary & we all know the story isn't 😅😅😅

Having flexibility to have chores taken care of is great to quite a lot of people and also another perspective is giving employment to others who needs jobs vs exploitation ( you see that in western countries too due to visa issues etc). There is no perfect place and one needs to decide which is good for them at given phase of life and act accordingly.

That 7% return on INR deposit & comparison of Private Health Care in India with Govt supported health care in US or Canada is totally incorrect & mis leading by any standards. Rest I understand can be different point of view. Such content on public platform from your channel .. just think about it. Prospectives can be different but facts are facts without any manuplation. Look at the truth of Indian infrastructure in this raining season on any TV channel & we all know that's happening in most of these private hospitals in India don't we...

May desi return to India because of visa/ job issue / parents etc given a chance Indians will live in usa . More freedom . No polical interference , good infrastructure.lats but not least Reservation . My children suffered because of reservations. Not getting admission in reputed colleges with very high mark .
