I've read a brief account of Jacob's seeing a man shot down in the street. N.W. corner of Wash. & High. I don't recall the tale of the rifling the dead man. But, this a the tale that I recall.
Hey Eric, the 26th Pennsylvania Emergency Militia was not the same unit as the 26th Pennsylvania Infantry. The latter regiment was mustered in 1861 and fought in the 3rd Corps at Gettysburg, and mustered out in June 1864. Two different units. The 26th PEM existed for only five weeks in 1863.
A story is "out there" that Gen'l Lee's man servant/slave, cooked the chicken when Lee was preparing to meet with some other officers, as he ( Lee's slave) had nothing else to prepare. Not sure if any primary source to back that up.
Great Show Guys / Thank You

In lieu the absent chicken, Longstreet ended up laying an egg at Gettysburg.
C'mon...is the Jubal Early, William Pendleton or Walter Taylor?
Hey-ooohhh!
The egg was laid by early not taking the high ground on the 1st and the bad recon on the morning of the 2nd- everything after is a result
